INTRODUCTION

R

ecent years have seen tremendous changes in technology, the economy, the workplace, the environment, migration, culture, and social and political interaction. Amidst all of this, and with the support of the U.S. Department of State, we at Fulbright Canada are pleased to be bringing together exceptional American graduate students who recently received Fulbright grants to Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. Keeping in mind that academic work is not only about analysis and reflection, it is our intention that this seminar will examine the role that innovation and entrepreneurship can play in securing our collective future in the Americas. More specifically, we aim to explore the potential realworld impact of innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of diverse or localized communities. The program will begin in Montreal where we will be exposed to innovation from a variety of perspectives. Subsequent to the day in Montreal, participants will engage in a daylong colloquium centred on their draft papers that relate to the broad theme of ‘Securing Our Future.’ U.S. Fulbright Students have been grouped thematically into six cross-disciplinary panels. Confident that each student will bring a unique point of view, it is our hope that a diversity of perspectives will lead to a nuanced understanding of important issues. In addition to facilitating academic exchange, this program will allow U.S. Fulbright Students to share their experiences with one another, network with each other and with the Fulbright Canada community, all the while experiencing the cultural and social fabric of two major cities in Canada. Our special thanks to the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs at the US Department of State for supporting this enhancement program. Thank you also to the special guests and moderators who have so generously offered to share their time and their experiences with Fulbright Students. Sincerely,

Michael Hawes Michael K. Hawes, PhD CEO, Fulbright Canada
