Unified School District have greatly expanded throughout the years. We are proud to provide students with unique learning experiences which align with our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). At FSUSD, students have the opportunity to find their passion and potentially earn an industry certification before graduating high school. Our educators and staff are committed to preparing our scholars for a bright future ahead. Career Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District are unparalleled. As you flip through these pages, you will find 21st century industry standard pathways that provide students with a promising future in various fields. Our CTE program, which is aligned to our District's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), has been developed with the help of our community and industry experts.

Throughout the years, FSUSD has expanded CTE programs FSUSD is proud to offer pathways in 11 of the 15 California industry sectors providing students a unique hands-on experience. Our teachers and administrators are committed to providing quality and rigorous educational opportunities which will prepare our students for the future, today.

What is CTE?

Career Technical Education provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. In total, about 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in CTE across the nation. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context (source: www.careertech.org/cte).

CTE in FSUSD: Pathways to Endless Possibilities

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District is thrilled to offer 17 exceptional Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways across four secondary schools: Armijo High School, Fairfield High School, Public Safety Academy, and Rodriguez High School. These pathways encompass a diverse range of 11 industry sectors that align perfectly with the local workforce opportunities.

These cutting-edge pathways have been designed to empower junior and senior students of FSUSD with a seamless and comprehensive sequence of courses, priming them with life skills tailored to meet the demands of our ever-evolving society. Notably, these courses offer a direct pathway to lucrative employment prospects, including the local trade unions. Alternatively, they can serve as a solid foundation for students seeking to pursue certificate and degree programs at local colleges

Agriculture and Natural Resources: Agriculture education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber, and natural resource systems.

Arts, Media, and Entertainment: The Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector helps prepare students for a career in production and managerial arts.

Building Trades and Construction: The Building Trades and Construction sector provides students with hands-on woodworking and construction experiences to build the skills needed to thrive in the field.

Business and Finance: Students learn entrepreneurship, finance, and business management skills to prepare them for their future career.

Education, Child Development, and Family Services: Students discover opportunities available in teaching and other school site professions working with Kindergarten to grade 12. This program offers an introduction to the issues and strategies for teaching diverse learners.

Health Science and Medical Technology: Students participate in hands-on activities preparing them for a career in the health field.

Hospitality and Tourism: This sector integrates various facets of the hospitality industry, such as, lodging, travel and tourism, event planning, theme parks, attractions, exhibitions, and recreation.

Information and Communication Technology: Information technology careers involve the design, development, support, and management of hardware, software, multimedia, and systems integration.

Manufacturing and Product Development: Product development involves the creation of an idea and the subsequent design and process that results in a product

Public Service: This sector provides a foundation for students interested in being involved in their community and serving the public's interest.

Transportation: Students gain hands-on experience in learning how to repair vehicles, perform oil changes, and more.

Agriculture and Natural Resources

Create a sustainable world.

Do you enjoy gardening or creating floral arrangements? Are you interested in learning about food, fiber, wood products, and natural resources? Agricultural education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber, and natural resources systems Through agricultural education, students are provided opportunities for leadership development, personal growth, and career success.

Students can enroll in the following pathways:

Animal Care (RHS)

The Animal Care pathway imparts information about the care and management of domestic and farm animals. Students develop an understanding of animal nutrition, health, behavior, selection, reproduction, anatomy and physiology, facilities, product processing, and marketing.

Ornamental Horticulture (RHS)

Agriscience (RHS)

The Agriscience pathway helps students acquire a broad understanding of a variety of agricultural areas, develop an awareness of the many career opportunities in agriculture, participate in occupationally relevant experiences, and work cooperatively with a group to develop and expand leadership abilities. Students study California agriculture, agricultural business, agricultural technologies, natural resources, and animal, plant, and soil sciences.

The Ornamental Horticulture pathway prepares students for careers in nursery, landscaping, and floral industries. Topics include plant identification, plant physiology, soil science, plant reproduction, nursery production, and floriculture, as well as landscaping design, installation, and maintenance.

Let your creativity take over.

Are you passionate about photography? Are you interested in the behind-the-scenes of video production? The Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector helps prepare you for a career in production and managerial arts. This industry sector careers include actors, writers, and developers from graphic designers to multi-tasking managers.

Students can enroll in the following pathways:

Production and Managerial Arts (RHS, FHS)

Students will gain skills in the film, television, and digital media industry Students will study the history, the art of filmmaking, the related industry job titles and positions, and the creative process through hands-on experience by producing digital video projects using various video cameras, microphones, lighting, and computer software. Students will develop ideas individually and within a group. They will write industry standard synopsis, screenplays, scripts, and create storyboards. Students will use their scripts to produce and edit animatics, trailers, podcasts, broadcasts, music videos, commercials, PSA’s and short films.

Design, Visual, and Media Arts (RHS, AHS)

This pathway prepares students to use artistic and technological foundations to create digital videos and animated presentations for industry and entertainment. Students will develop basic drawing and design skills, learn the fundamentals and physics of movement, the art of filmmaking, the history of animation and visual communication, as well as techniques for self-expression through a variety of digital formats.

The Cabinetry, Millwork, and Woodworking pathway provides learning opportunities for students interested in preparing for careers in cabinet construction, millwork, finish carpentry, and furniture making for both production and custom products.

The Residential and Commercial Construction pathway provides learning opportunities for students interested in construction and building design, performance, and sustainability. The standards focus on the manner in which residential and commercial structures are designed and built

The Education pathway is designed to prepare students for professional or learning support positions in education, prekindergarten through grade twelve. Students study human development; standards, regulations, and codes; positive guidance and counseling techniques; age-appropriate and grade-appropriate learning strategies; learning theories; and standardsbased curriculum and instructional design. Students can apply and practice their knowledge and skills at a variety of elementary and secondary education sites

Students in the Food Service and Hospitality Pathway will add to their knowledge of safety and food sanitation as they deepen their understanding of food cooking methods and principles. Students will gain knowledge that will prepare them for jobs in careers in the restaurant and retail foodservice: Culinary arts, Dietetic Aide, Catering, Institutional Food Service, Restaurant and retail food service occupations. Welding and Materials Joining (AHS)

The Welding and Materials Joining pathway provides students with an understanding of manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in welding and related industries. Pathway standards are based on, but not limited to, the American Welding Society (AWS) EG2.0 Guidelines for the Entry Level Welder. Topics include the interpretation and layout of welded and assembled-part prints, cutting, mechanical bonding, joining, cohesive bonding, adhesive bonding, and mechanical fastening.

The Public Services Industry sector provides a foundation for students interested in being involved in their community and serving the public's interest. Careers in this sector often attract people who want to help their fellow citizens and make improvements to the community they serve.

Students can enroll in the following pathways:

Public Safety (PSA)

The Public Safety pathway prepares students with a broad-based foundational knowledge in careers that involve public safety. Students will gain experience on the evolving integration of state public safety organizations, their connections with federal and state intelligence and security agencies, interoperability and coordination of effort, and the shared mission to protect the public in a post-9/11 world are areas of emphasis for the pathway.

Emergency Services (PSA)

The Emergency Response pathway provides provides students with decision making information about careers in Emergency Response careers or to pursue advanced skill training in Emergency Services. Course content includes classroom instruction, hands-on training and community experience. This content is designed to provide students with an understanding of the variety of agencies, employment opportunities, and necessary skill requirements in the many career within Emergency Services. Information included will be in the field of fire and emergency operations, disaster response, emergency management, the latest industry principles, theory, and best practices. Students learn tactical operations, safety, leadership, community outreach, and response techniques.

All three methods listed below provide high school students a jump-start on their education - saving valuable time and money in the process In addition, students gain confidence in their ability to complete college work which should help them transition into post-secondary education much easier.

What is articulation?

High School Articulation is a process in which high school CTE courses are deemed equivalent to college CTE courses through a formal agreement. College credit will be awarded to students that successfully pass the course according to the terms of the agreement.

Articulation reduces the need for students to repeat coursework in college and facilitates a smooth transition from secondary to post-secondary education. It allows students to more efficiently reach their educational and career goals.
