OurDistrict

Fairfield-SuisunUnifiedSchoolDistrict(FSUSD)islocatedintheheartofNorthernCaliforniaandishometo amyriadofhigh-calibereducationalopportunities.FSUSD'sreputationofeducationalexcellenceisnotby chance,butbycarefuldesign.Dedicatedparents,asupportivecommunity,andourteachersandstaffwork tirelesslytoimplementtheBoard-adoptedgoalsandutilizearoadmapthatputsourstudentsonadirect path to academic achievement. The district's central location provides easy access to numerous higher educationalinstitutions,includingUniversityofCaliforniaschools,stateuniversities,communitycolleges, andprivateuniversitiesalike.

The community places a high value on education and supports schools with generous commitments of timeandmoney.Parents,businesses,governmentagencies,communityorganizations,andlocalcolleges anduniversitiesactivelyparticipateintheeducationalprocessthroughcollaborativeprograms,publicand privatepartnerships,andsignificantvolunteercontributions

FSUSDtakesprideinourmulticulturaldiversity.Despitecomingfromdifferentbackgrounds,theysharean excitement about learning and tend to become high achievers who wish to excel. The district consists of thirty schools, including four high schools, five middle schools, nineteen elementary schools, several alternativeschools,andoneAdultSchool.

OurSuperintendent

The2021/22schoolyearmarksthebeginningofKrisCorey'sninthyearasthe Superintendent of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District. Ms. Corey has overthirtyyearsofexperienceineducation.Hercareerbeganwhenshewas recruited to Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District from South Dakota to teachattheelementarylevel.Afterthirteenyearsintheclassroom,Ms.Corey entered administration She has served as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, Director of Elementary Education, and Assistant SuperintendentofEducationalServices.

TheRoleoftheGoverningBoard

Schooldistrictsandcountyofficesofeducation

are governed by boards, not by individual trustees. While understanding their separate roles, the Board and Superintendent work together as a "governance team". This team assumes collective responsibility for building unity and creating a positive organizational cultureinordertogoverneffectively

The Governing Board believes that its primary responsibility is to act in the best interest of everystudentinthedistrict.TheBoardalsohas major commitments to parents/guardians, all members of the community, employees, the state of California, laws pertaining to public education, and established policies of the district.

TheSuperintendentofFSUSDisthetopadministratorintheDistrict. TheSuperintendentisresponsiblefor theentireDistrict.AstheSecretarytotheBoardandtheBoard’sonlyemployee,theSuperintendentworks withtheBoardasa“governanceteam”andassurescollectiveresponsibilityforbuildingaunityofpurpose, communicating a common vision, and creating a positive organizational culture. The Superintendent createsanddevelopsboardagendaswiththeassistanceoftheBoardPresident,BoardVicePresident,and administrative staff. Board meetings are held at least once each month. Each meeting is recorded and streamedliveonYoutube.GoverningBoardminutesareproducedanddevelopedfromthesemeetingsby theSuperintendent’sofficeandareplacedontheDistrict’swebsite.

Everything the District represents is captured in the FSUSD brand. FSUSD conveys an image to students, the community, and the public of the distinctive value of what the district has to offer. One of the Communications and Community Engagement Department'smaingoalsistoshapeandprotectthe FSUSD brand. The department ensures the District’s brand sends a clear and consistent message about FSUSDandtheopportunitieswerepresentacrossall communicationchannels.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

TheEducationalServicesDepartmentincludesallpersonnelandprogramsthatdeliveracademic,socialemotional, and behavioral support to the school sites of FSUSD. The department's goals are to improve student achievement by providing high-quality professional development, securing relevant, standardsaligned curriculum, and supporting site leaders in achieving their school-based goals. The Educational Services include Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Elementary Education, English Learner and InstructionalSupport,SecondaryEducation,SpecialEducation,andStudentandFamilyServices

ElementaryEducation

The Elementary Education Department is responsible for supportingandaligningthegoalsoftheFairfield-SuisunUnified School District with our preschool programs, K-5 schools, K-8 schools, and all special education programs housed within elementary schools. Elementary Education is responsible for organizing, planning, and coordinating the implementation of all aspects of the preschool-8th instructional program for nineteenelementaryschoolsandourCaliforniaStatePreschool Program.TheElementaryEducationstaffsupportsourdistrict's elementaryschoolstoensurethedeliveryofequitable,rigorous, robust,andrelevantlearningexperiencesforallstudents;where learningandstudentachievementisfostered.

SecondaryEducation

TheSecondaryEducationdepartmentisresponsibleforsupportingandaligningthegoalsoftheFairfieldSuisun Unified School District with our middle schools, high schools, alternative schools and the adult school. Secondary Education ultimately prepares our students for post-secondary success. We support eachprincipalandassistantprincipaltogrowasadministratorsandeducators.

Eachadministrativeteamisempoweredtoleadtheirstaffandschooltoexperiencecreativeandcultural excellence SecondaryEducationinpartnershipwitheachschoolsiteworkstoensuredeliveryofequitable, rigorous,robust,andrelevantlearningexperiencesforallstudents;wherelearningandgrowthisfostered. Eachsecondaryschoolhasmanydifferentprogramsandorganizationsthatsupportthewholestudentto graduatefromhighschoolinfouryearscollege/careerready.

Curriculum,Instruction,&Assessment

CurriculumstandardsaresetbytheStateofCaliforniaDepartmentofEducationandadoptedbyFSUSD. These content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by definingtheknowledge,concepts,andskillsthatstudentsshouldacquireateachgradelevel.Thegoalsof Curriculum,Instruction,andAssessment(CIA)areasfollows:

ProfessionalLearningCulture:CIApromotesacultureinwhichdepartmentstaff,siteadministrators, andteachersengageinindividualandcollectiveprofessionallearningthatresultsintheircontinuous improvementandhighperformancewithafocustoincreaseequityandaccesstorigorous,culturally responsive,andinclusivefirstinstructioninacademicsandsocial-emotionallearning.

Curriculum and Instruction: CIA guides and supports the implementation of standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessments that address student expectations and outcomes that respond to current and emerging cultural, economic, and social issues that affect students and their families

Assessment and Accountability: CIA develops and uses assessment and accountability systems to monitor, improve, and extend educator practice, program outcomes, and student learning by increasing the collective capacity to apply a variety of tools and technology to gather feedback, organizeandanalyzemultipledatasources,andmonitorstudentprogressdirectedtowardimproving teachingandlearning.

EnglishLearners&InstructionalSupport

ThemissionoftheEnglishLearnersandInstructionalSupport(EL-IS)departmentistoprovideschoolswith quality instructional support, guidance, and direction to improve instruction for English Learners and ensure their academic success This entails the implementation of proven, research-based instructional strategies that are utilized in conjunction with district-adopted resources to meet the academic needs of English Learners based on individually assessed needs. The department also provides guidance and support to sites receiving federal categorical dollars on the appropriate and ideal uses of the funds to improvestudentoutcomeswhilemaintainingcompliance. EL-ISprovidesthecoordinationandsupervision ofextendedlearningopportunitiesincludingbefore/afterschooltutoring.

InstructionalMaterials

The Instructional Materials Center houses educational materials. All current adoptions are available in additiontoanymaterialscurrentlyupforadoptionreview.ThedepartmentislocatedinsidetheTeacher SupportCenteronthethirdflooroftheCentralOffice.

The Student and Family Services Department provides support to school sites, parents/guardians, students,andcommunitymembersthroughdisseminationofinformationregardingresources,California Education Code, and other laws affecting pupil services and school administration. The Special Education Department’s mission is to provide services and support to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in the least restrictive environment. In addition, our purpose is to ensureparents,students,andstaffworktogethertomakecertainthatappropriateservicesareprovided onanindividualizedbasisforeverychildwithadisability.SpecialEducationstrivestocreateandmaintain aneffectivelearningenvironmentbyprovidinghigh-quality,evidence-basedinstructionandservicesforall studentsandwebelievethatallstudentscanlearnandsucceed.

About FSUSDCTE

FSUSD offers students 16 Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways across four secondary schools: Armijo High School, Fairfield High School, Public Safety Academy, and Rodriguez High School. Each pathwayspans11differentindustrysectorsallrelevanttolocalworkforceopportunities.

The pathways provide FSUSD's junior and senior students with a career-ready sequence of courses that equips them with vital life skills, appropriate to the ever-changing society. FSUSD CTE courses can lead directlyintoemployment,includinglocaltradeunions,andcanalsosupportthetransitionintocertificate anddegreeprogramsatlocalcolleges.Nomatterstudents'afterhighschooldecisions,CTEcoursesgive studentshands-onexperienceinawork-readyenvironment.

The Business Services Department has many areas of responsibility consisting of budget and accounting, technology support, facilities, maintenance and operations,studenttransportation, and student nutrition services. The business leadership team is committed to providing sound financial management for the District; school facilities that are clean, safe, and well-maintained; and other operational services to support the District's vision and academic objectives. As the operational and financial center of the District, the department staff strives to improve the quality, efficiency,andcost-effectivenessof allFSUSDschooloperations.

FiscalServices

TheFiscalServicesDepartmentisresponsibleforthefinancialaccounting,aswellasthedevelopmentof thebudgetandmonitoringoftheDistrictfinances.ThedevelopmentofFSUSD’sbudgeteachyearinvolves acollaborativeanddetailedprocessthatengagesavarietyofimportanteducationalpartnersrepresenting students,parents,communitymembers,andschoolandDistrictstaff.

Purchasing

UndertheBusinessServicesDivision,thePurchasingDepartmentisdedicatedtoproviding schoolsitesand administrationwithahighlevelofcustomerservicewhileupholdingbusinesspracticestothestandardsset forth by local, state and federal mandates. The department is proud of its continuous effort to provide a friendly,customerservice-orientedenvironment.

The Purchasing Department works closely with school site and department staff to ensure all goods and servicesaredeliveredandreceivedatintendedlocations Itisofutmostimportancethatthedepartment workscollaborativelywithallstafftoensuretheitemsaredistributedtoschoolsitesandcentrallocations. TheultimategoalistoensureneedsoftheDistrict’sstudentpopulationaremetthroughtheprocurement ofgoodsandservicesthatwillassisttheminachievingtheireducationalgoalswhileatFSUSD.

Payroll

ThePayrollDepartmentworksdiligentlytoensurethatallemployeesarepaidaccuratelyandtimelywith the correct tax withholdings and deductions in addition to assuring withholdings and deductions are remittedtotheappropriatevendorinatimelymanner.

Facilities

TheFacilitiesDepartmentoverseesallaspectsofmanagingthedistrict'sbuildings,includingmaintenance, bondoversight,construction,issuingfacilitiesusepermits,energyconservationprograms,andmanaging variousreports.TheFacilitiesDepartmentworkstoensurethephysicalenvironmentsofschoolsareclean, safe,andwelcoming,aswellasequitableandenvironmentallyresponsible.

Maintenance&Operations

The Maintenance & Operations Department provides maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial and field servicesatdistrictlocationstoensureasafeandhealthyenvironmentforstudentsandstaff.Thisincludes maintenance of all district buildings, systems and related equipment and also preventative maintenance servicestomaximizetheusefullifeofdistrictfacilities.

Warehouse

TheWarehouseteamworkscloselywithnutrition, custodial, technology, and curriculum services to ensure all goods are delivered and received at intended locations. Additionally, the Warehouse department manages the distribution of essential itemstoschoolsitesandcentrallocations

TechnologySupportServices

The Technology Support Services (TSS) Department is responsible for technology support, installation, planning, approval, and procurement. The department also provides technology-related professional development for staff. The department maintains key software applications including the district’s Student Information System, Financial System, and Human Resources Enterprise Resource Planning Software. TSS coordinates the district’s data collection and submissions for the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) and other state and federal programs. The Department maintains the Google Domain for students and staff and the fleet of over 30,000 end user devices. Finally, the department is developing and implementing strategies for increasing the district’scybersecurityawarenessandpreparedness.

ChildNutrition

The Nutrition Services Department comprises a teamoffoodandnutritionprofessionalsdedicated tostudents'health,well-being,andabilitytolearn. Child Nutrition Services provides students with access to a variety of tasty, seasonal, and quality foodsthatmeettheirhealthandnutritionneedsto learn at school. All food and beverages sold or served on campus conform to State and Federal nutritionrequirements.

TransportationServices

The goal of the Transportation Department is to provide a safe and positive riding environment for FSUSD bus riders. The Transportation Department provides home-to-school transportation to eligible special education and unsheltered students in accordance with board-approved bus service guidelines.

BacktoSchoolResourceFair

To ensure all students, regardless of income level,havethesuppliestheyneedwhenschools resumed, FSUSD partners with the Fairfield Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Partnership Engagement program to host the annualBacktoSchoolResourceFair.Familiesin attendance received backpacks filled with free school supplies to help them take on the academicyear.Thefairalsoprovidedschooland community resources and immunizations including COVID-19 vaccines for students and families.

Inspire:DreamsStartNow!

Annually, FSUSD takes part in the "Inspire: DreamsStartNow!"careerfair

“Inspire:Dreams StartNow!”isauniquecareerinitiativedes to motivate children to find their passion pursue their occupational dreams within own community. Representatives from ov local agencies and businesses took part event These organizations hosted han activities and presentations to provide stu with the ability to explore career interest makecontactswithinlocalbusinesses.

TrunkorTreat

Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District hosts theannualTrunkorTreateventeveryOctober. After a two-year hiatus, this year's event was at the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School cipants from FSUSD school sites and ct office departments elaborately rated their trunks, played games, and ed out candies and other goodies to renandfamiliesfromthecommunity.This sparticipantsprovidedafunandengaging for everyone in attendance by creating elaboratedisplaysusingcartrunks,truckbeds, canopies, and a dance party complete with DJ booth,lights,andvirtualreality.
