The FSU College of Music invites you to join us in 2022-23 for a year of inspired musicmaking by our talented students, faculty, and guest artists. Catch Mozart’s masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro , by our acclaimed opera program or enjoy the dazzle of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite from the University Symphony Orchestra on our University Musical Associate (UMA) Concert Series. Enjoy the amazing and intimate music of the Ying Quartet and their fresh approach to chamber music as part of the Housewright Virtuoso Series. PRISM, Seasonal Celebration, and the annual Rainbow Concert are all back as Special Events in our beautiful concert spaces. Join us as we kick off our season of concerts on Friday, September 9 with a special concert featuring vocalist Inga Swearingen and FSU jazz faculty.

University Symphony Orchestra (RDCH) Join the University Symphony Orchestra for Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1 and the Vaughn Williams Tuba Concerto featuring Dr. Justin Benavidez (tuba).

Wind Ensemble (RDCH) Share new music for winds, brass, and percussion along with gems from the past, all led by Director of Bands, Dr. Patrick Dunnigan.

University Singers and University Philharmonia (RDCH) Experience Earth Symphony, the ground-breaking choral symphony by Grammy-nominated composer Jake Runestad and poet Todd Boss, as performed by two of the College’s leading ensembles.

Student Jazz Combo (OMH) Start your week swinging with top players from the College of Music as they present their versions of jazz standards in the intimate Opperman Music Hall.

Kickoff Event: Jazz Faculty with Inga Swearingen (OMH) Jazz vocalist and FSU alum Inga Swearingen will join talented jazz faculty members Bill Peterson (piano), Rodney Jordan (bass), and Leon Anderson, Jr. (drums), in a selection of jazz standards and contemporary hits as we start our 2022-23 concert series in style.

University Symphony Orchestra (RDCH) Join us for the season premiere of the University’s top orchestra, featuring selections from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Xu Han (Winner of the 2022 Doctoral Concerto Competition), and the magnificent Symphony No. 2 by Johannes Brahms.

Fall Opera: The Marriage of Figaro (RDCH) Join our nationally-ranked opera program as they present this comic opera masterpiece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, described by BBC News Magazine as “one of the supreme masterpieces of operatic comedy, whose rich sense of humanity shines out of Mozart’s miraculous score.” Sunday matinée begins at 3 pm.

Wind Orchestra (RDCH) Outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from the College unite to present beautiful works highlighting virtuosic wind ensemble performance.

Chamber Choir (RDCH) Composer Craig Hella Johnson’s powerful oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard chronicles the events surrounding this tragic death. Wind Ensemble (RDCH) Celebrate spring with an evening of band music highlighting student performers from across the nation. Summer Opera (OMH) Start your summer off by joining the amazing FSU opera program as we sing the night away in beautiful Opperman Music Hall.

University Symphony Orchestra (RDCH) Hindemith’s powerful Symphonic Metamorphosis opens this home concert for the USO Spring Tour program, followed by Sir Edward Elgar’s beautiful Enigma Variations, offering audiences an amazing evening of colors and rich sounds. University Philharmonia (RDCH) Tchaikovsky’s hallmark Symphony No. 2 headlines this concert of orchestral works by the College’s premiere undergraduate orchestra.

Spring Opera: A Streetcar Named Desire (OMH) Join us as our spring opera continues into April. Be sure to catch the Sunday matinée on 4/2 at 3 pm.

The Saturn Quartet (OMH) Nouveau Jazz comes to Tallahassee in a professional quartet of FSU College of Music alums who delight with their creativity and enthusiasm.

The Dohnányi Chamber Players (OMH) Grammy-nominated violinist and Carnegie Mellon professor Andrés Cárdenes and violist Michael Klotz come to Tallahassee to join FSU faculty members Shannon Thomas (violin), Gregory Sauer (cello), and Ian Hobson (piano) in a delightful performance of music by Ernst, Kreisler, Schumann, Brahms, and Dohnányi.

Celebrate Schubert’s Birthday (OMH) Soprano Marcy Stonikas and tenor Eric Rieger will be joined by colleagues from the string and piano areas in a program commemorating the 225th anniversary of Franz Schubert’s birth. The program will include favorites such as “Shepherd on the Rock” and the Trout Quintet. The Ying Quartet (OMH) The Ying Quartet (violins, viola, cello) occupies a position of unique prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world.

The Dohnányi Chamber Players (OMH) Guest violist Csaba Erdélyi, Principal Viola of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and Bernhard Scully, horn soloist from the University of Illinois, join Shannon Thomas (violin), Gregory Sauer (cello), Jonathan Holden (clarinet), and Ian Hobson (piano) in a concert with works by Dohnányi, Franc, and Schumann.

The Dohnányi Chamber Players (OMH) Artistic Director of this exciting new group, Ian Hobson (piano), leads Gregory Sauer (cello), Read Gainsford (piano), and guest pianist Muen Wei in this opening concert of the Dohnányi Chamber Players that includes works by Brahms, Dohnányi, Kreisler, and Rachmaninov. Sights and Sounds Series (OMH) FSU collaborative pianist Valerie M. Trujillo returns to the stage with faculty and students, merging music and imagery in an engaging display of sights and sounds.

Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert (OMH) Join us to celebrate the songs and the stories of one of the true giants of theatre. Featuring a cast of New York’s top Broadway and concert stars performing alongside FSU faculty and students for an exciting evening of theatre hits. All concerts begin at 7:30 pm unless otherwise specified

SERIESVIRTUOSOHOUSEWRIGHT The Housewright Virtuoso Series makes possible guest artist residencies and masterclasses like those with the Ying Quartet, joining us January 27, 2023.

FSU’s internationally renowned world music ensembles take center stage for this spectacular celebration of musical diversity ranging from steel band to samba and gamelan to Afrobeat. This year’s Rainbow Concert also features Brazilian guest artists Luizinho Calixto (accordion), Jorge Simas (guitar), Carlos Sandroni (vocals and guitar), for a once-in-alifetime concert experience.

SPECIAL EVENTS These events are ticketed, stand-alone events (not part of the UMA or Housewright Virtuoso series) that support the band, choral, and world music areas. Join us in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall for a unique, immersive band experience featuring musical selections ranging from classical to the top of the pop charts. With numerous ensembles staged around the audience, a full wind band on stage, and Marching Chiefs along the aisles, there truly is no bad seat in the house!

TICKET ORDERING Subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased online at our website: tickets.music.fsu.edu . You may also purchase by phone at: 850-644-6500 or in person starting August 29 th at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, located within the Fine Arts Building at 540 W Call Street. Tickets can also be purchased at each event starting one (1) hour prior to the start of the performance.

Accessible seating for all persons with disabilities is available for all shows online, by phone, or in person on a first-come, first-served basis. If ordering by phone or in person, please mention your interest in wheelchair accessible seating, hearing devices, or other special accommodations. Hearing devices are available for all Ruby Diamond Concert Hall events.

DISCLAIMER All programs, artists, ticket prices, locations, dates, and times are subject to change without notice. All service and delivery fees are nonrefundable. In the case of a cancellation, only the face value of the ticket will be refunded.

RECORDING POLICY

Performances begin promptly at the time printed on your tickets. Late seating will take place at a point in the performance determined by the artists and the artistic staff. Please try to arrive approximately 20-30 minutes prior to the event’s curtain time. PARKING Street parking around the FSU campus is free after 5pm and on weekends. Parking in campus parking lots is free on weekends, but a permit is required Monday through Friday until 10 pm. To obtain a parking permit, visit: transportation.fsu.edu/parking-permits Consider becoming a UMA member to enjoy free parking in our reserved lots.

Photos and video are not allowed during our performances. Please feel free to create memories of our musicians and beautiful spaces before or after the concert. INTERMISSION Most intermissions are approximately 15 minutes long. Get up, stretch your legs, use the restroom or meet some new friends in the audience. HOW CAN I HEAR MORE?
