Welcome to the Friedberg JCC Welcome to the Friedberg JCC. We are so happy that you are interested in becoming part of the JCC family because our home is your home!

For over 50 years, the Friedberg JCC has serviced Long Island’s south shore through the provision of vitally needed programs and services: senior adult services, health and wellness programs, aquatics classes, special needs services, and after-school programs for grade school children and teens, summer day camps, daycare, nursery and pre-schools and more!

Over time, the JCC has become the Center for Wellness because we provide our community with comprehensive programs and services centering on the whole body, mind and spirit. Focusing on six points of wellness, our aim is to support the growth of the spiritual, emotional, occupational, physical, emotional and intellectual well-being of our members, while also maintaining our Judaic traditions and values. Our goal is to have every individual walk out of our programs and facilities feeling better than they did when they arrived.

Great things happen here…every membership dollar you spend helps you and helps to bring programs and services to people of all ages and stages of life. We build community…one member at a time!

With the exception of Senior Club, membership rates include use of the fitness center and pool, plus select fitness classes.

All Memberships except Senior Club are subject to a one-time initial registration fee of $50. All Snowbird and Out-Of-Town College Memberships must be paid in full at inception.

New memberships require that each adult member provide a valid form of picture I.D.

Gold Members are eligible to receive Gold promotions at a reduced rate (for most categories). As our most “seasoned” members, Gold Members are our ambassadors and are invited to all New Member Brunches throughout the year! We welcome you to help our new members get acclimated to the JCC, and of course brunch is on us!

What Does My Membership Include?

Membership at the JCC is a wonderful value. Included in your full membership fee: • Usage of our state-of-the-art health and fitness club • 2 free fitness consultations • Free nutrition consultation session with our registered dietitian • Our beautiful heated indoor swimming pool • Select fitness classes • Wireless internet access • Reduced fees for all programs, classes and special events • Camp and early childhood discounts Membership also entitles you to register for certain activities that are only available to members such as certified personal training.

JCC members benefit from priority registration for classes, special member-only offers and promotions throughout the year. Plus, it’s a great way to support your local JCC! The JCC also offers special categories of membership that are more limited in scope including senior club, snowbird, out-of-town college student, teen and Long Beach branch memberships.

J Fit—Our All-Inclusive Membership (Members Only)

Check out our affordable J Fit memberships. For a small additional fee each month, you and any family member will be able to participate in all of our Group Fitness Exercise Classes. You may also choose 2 aquatics classes of your choice; J Fit members receive 50% off any additional aquatics classes.

Join the JCC & Brunch is On Us!

The JCC hosts a New Member Brunch once every 2 months on Wednesday’s at 11 a.m. Join us and meet our wonderful staff and fellow new members! We even have a gift waiting for you when you arrive! Call Carol Shore at 634-4153 to reserve your spot.

The JCC Is Wireless!

Members may bring their own laptop to our spacious lobby and cafe.

Computers for teen members (ages 12 and up, please) are located in the Youth Lounge.

May I Bring a Guest?

Yes. Members (ages 14 and above) can purchase individual guest passes for use of the facility for one day.

Members may purchase up to two guest passes per visit. Fees are $10 for adults (19 years and over); $8 for teens (13–18 years); $5 for children (2–12 years); children under age 2 are free. An individual may use our JCC facilities up to 3 times per year as a guest. Guests must provide a valid I.D. and must complete a guest registration form at the front office. Members must accompany their guests and are responsible for them at all times.

Will I Receive a Membership Card?

All members must obtain key tag cards which are available at our security desk.

Tags are small and fit right on your key chain!

Membership "key tag" cards will be issued when dues have been processed. CARDS MUST BE PRESENTED WHEN ENTERING THE BUILDING and are used to open the door to our Fitness Center. Replacement tags are $10 each.

All individuals 10 years of age and older must have a JCC I.D. card.

Does the JCC Offer Community Services in Other Locations?

Yes. Our Long Beach Branch offers the best in early childhood, afterschool enrichment and camp for all ages.

Our Merrick/Bellmore Branch offers exemplary early childhood, children’s afters chool enrichment programs and camp programs. Afterschool programs are also available in Baldwin, Island Park and Bellmore; before school programs are offered in Baldwin and Bellmore.

Can Youngsters Use the Wellness, Fitness & Sports Facility?

We offer supervised classes for our youth population in our Wellness, Fitness & Sports department. All youngsters 14 years and older may use the health club; youngsters under age 14 may participate in specialized fitness classes (see our program listings). Children 10 years and older may use the pool and gymnasium unaccompanied by an adult.

What Are My Membership Dues Used Towards?

Your membership dues support the operating budget of the JCC. Membership dues are non-refundable.

Are Special Financial Arrangements Available?

It is the philosophy of the JCC that no one be denied membership because of an inability to pay the established rates. Scholarship forms are available at the main office or membership office. Confidential forms should be directed to the attention of Julie Feinman, Director of Membership.

Will Other JCCs Honor My Membership?

If you travel outside the N.Y. area, many JCCs will honor your valid Friedberg JCC membership for up to two weeks. We extend the same courtesy to our outof-town guests.

Children

While we encourage and welcome children of all ages at all times, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian who is 18 or over.

When Do I Renew My Membership?

Membership is renewed annually on your “anniversary date.”

JCC Visitor Pass

An individual may “try out” the JCC at no cost. Please stop by the front office for your pass. Only one person per pass. The pass is non–transferable and cannot be applied towards classes, programs or trips. This offer can only be used once.

JCC Gift Certificate

A JCC Gift Certificate is available in any denomination and can be used towards membership dues, classes, programs, trips, personal training and more! Easy to buy, easy to give for any occasion, one size fits all! Gift Certificates can be purchased in the front office.

Caregivers

Caregivers (including au pairs/ babysitters) may accompany a member to the JCC while the member participates in activities. A written consent from the member is required, authorizing him/her to do so.

Membership must be current and in good standing. Live-in caregivers may be added to membership and utilize the services on their own for a fee.

Snowbird Policy

The JCC offers senior adult members a reduced snowbird fee designed for those members spending the winter months away from home. This membership is valid from April 15– October 15. Please refer to membership rates for information.

Out-of-Town College Student

This special category entitles the outof-town college student to utilize the JCC during winter, spring and summer breaks. You must show proof of out-oftown college enrollment. Please refer to membership rates for information.

Code of Conduct

The JCC strives to make our facilities as enjoyable as possible for all of our members. As such, we request that all members and visitors conduct themselves in a manner that does not interfere with others enjoying their visit here. Please note that the JCC reserves the right to suspend or revoke the membership of any individual who does not subscribe to generally acceptable standards of behavior.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is prohibited in the buildings and on the grounds of the JCC.

Friedberg JCC Early Childhood Centers: Oceanside, Long Beach & Merrick Our Philosophy

As leaders in the Early Childhood community, our year-round programs embrace developmentally appropriate practices and utilize differentiated teaching styles within our curriculum.

We understand that each child has an individual learning style as well as a personal timetable for development. In our child-centered classrooms, individual interests are identified and activities are planned that give each child an opportunity for exploration and self-direction. Our children acquire social competence and the skills they need to succeed as lifelong learners. that support each child’s development.

Your infant and toddler are encouraged to discover the world around them by exploring and playing. Developmental goals provide the framework for planning individualized experiences

Infants (6 weeks–18 months) Oceanside

By connecting with warm, caring adults at the start of life, children begin to develop the ability to connect with others throughout their lives. Here at the JCC, your baby will enjoy warm, human contact with caregivers who not only ensure the children’s safety and comfort but also foster infants’ physical, sensory, social, emotional and intellectual development.

The Friedberg JCC Early Childhood Center will be your child’s “home away from home” filled with love and smiles!!!

Toddlers (18 months–2 years) All Locations

As your infant grows into a toddler, development of language and future literacy skills are greatly enhanced through daily activities and thematic units. Social skills will develop through interaction with their friends, learning to take turns, sharing, laughter, participation and, above all, having fun.

Preschool Fun Provides A Solid Foundation for Excellence Our Early Childhood Programs are based on well-researched theory and proven results about how children learn and develop, including: • Active, hands-on learning • Acquisition of concepts which lead to the development of basic skills • Meaningful, relevant content and learning experiences, integrated across the content areas • Interactive teaching and cooperative learning • Attention to individual learning styles

4 Year Olds - When your child is

four, it is time to embark on a year-long learning adventure as they prepare for Kindergarten. Progressively challenging language and math experiences, as well as science, social studies and computers, will round out your child’s Pre-Kindergarten experience. Phonemic awareness and letter recognition are emphasized. Children will also further develop their fine and gross motor skills as they refine social skills and develop a clearer sense of community and responsibility.

These settings have all the amenities of our 3 & 4 year old program plus daily enrichment and an extended school year.

2 Year Olds - Our two-year-olds have

great fun in this beginning school experience. For many two’s, this is also a first time separation. Our experienced staff will gently guide your child to a place of trust and security. Another important goal of our two-year-old program is language development.

Children are encouraged to express themselves through language as a means of communication. Your child will have varied opportunities to further develop, expand and strengthen fine and gross motor skills.

Our two’s develop social skills by interacting with both peers and adults.

3 Year Olds - Our three-year-olds

are introduced to a broad academic curriculum in our language and literature rich classrooms through play and small group instruction.

Early math concepts are presented throughout the day, providing your child with a foundation of readiness skills. Small and gross motor development, expansion of social skills, science, music, computers and art will also be part of your three-yearold’s experience.

The J welcomes CATCH to its new fall lineup in Early Childhood. A national campaign, offering a coordinated approach to child health, is the brainchild of JCCA. Its goal is to incorporate active learning into all thematic units. Activity cards provide warm up, active and cooldown suggestions that are engaging, fun and meaningful. CATCH is cutting edge and a wonderful step towards bringing total wellness to our youngest members.

Our programs, serving children birth to 5-years-old and their families, are licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Each of our three Early Childhood Centers is designed to facilitate the growth of children physically, socially and cognitively. Our Judaic and secular holiday and enrichment programs add an extra dimension to your child’s preschool experience.

Bright Beginnings Bright Beginnings is an initiative of the JCC that was established to encourage and enrich the development of infants and children with special needs from birth through age five.

We are a licensed-related service provider offering no-cost services to children who have been approved through Early Intervention or through their school district’s CPSE (preschool special education program).

Childcare Development Associate Credential (CDA) Training Program

Bright Beginnings provides the Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Play Therapy and Counseling services your child needs in a warm and caring environment. Our Long Beach branch has an in-house sensory gym for children where play, sensory stimulation and learning come together.

We can offer these services in a variety of settings including our sensory gym, our Oceanside and Merrick sites, your home, and other school settings. Our team of therapists is dedicated, talented and experienced in their fields.

Your child does not have to attend the JCC preschool to receive these services!

The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is a nationally recognized Early Childhood professional credential. The CDA assessment and credentialing procedures are administered by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C. The goal of this national program is to enhance the quality of care children receive in Early Childhood programs. People who pursue the CDA credential learn to nurture children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth.

Students will complete 120 clock hours of formal education, training and coursework. The training will fit into the 6 specific competency areas as listed in the CDA assessment guide. The course includes books, an advisor and a required three-hour observation.

CDA Resource File Preparation Class

This six-hour class will help students assemble their resource file prior to their formal verification visit by a representative of the Council for Professional Recognition. This course will offer assistance in writing the six competencies, the autobiography and the collection of the 17 required resource items. Students will also have an opportunity to take practice exams.

The Hassle-Free Alternative to Hebrew School Carpool: “Nosh and Go”

This is a transportation service from the Oceanside schools to the JCC and then to local synagogues for your Hebrew School students. After arriving at the JCC, children will be given a nutritious, kosher snack and then bused to the Oceanside Hebrew Schools. Choose from 1 or 2 days per week. Call for fees.

SULAM-LI The Religious School for Jewish Children with Special Needs (school age and up) This is a supplemental religious school program for Jewish students with special needs. With a commitment to differentiated instruction, SULAMLI seeks to adapt the curriculum to the level of each student. We use a variety of techniques to make the curriculum come alive for our students emphasizing experiential learning, and including music, art, games and story-telling. JCC members receive a discounted fee.

The JCC Runs the Same Quality Before & After-School Programs in Local School Districts Your child will enjoy free play and creative enrichment classes such as art, computers, drama and sports.

Snacks and homework supervision are also provided. If needed, your child will be transported by bus to the afterschool site in your district. Children must be registered for a minimum of 3 days per week.

The Friedberg JCC in Oceanside also provides full-day holiday programs during school holidays and vacations.

Our After-School Enrichment offers a complete menu of social, physical and cultural activities for your children. Our highly-motivated staff provides a warm and friendly “home away from home” atmosphere while challenging your child to explore and discover new areas of interest. Homework is supervised by staff and tutoring is available in all subject areas for those children who need extra academic support.

By special arrangement with the Long Beach School District, their buses bring your child to our program. The AfterSchool Center operates on the school calendar and is open until 6 p.m. each evening.

Vacation programs are offered during most school holidays and on those days when your children have early dismissal due to parent/teacher conferences or other school events.

Full day holiday programs run from 9 a.m.– 6 p.m.; the fee varies depending on the day’s activities.

The JCC’s Enrichment Activity Program offers exciting, innovative courses for children Pre-K to Grade 6, Monday– Friday, 4–6 p.m. Children may attend one or more days for one or two hour sessions on each day. Children opting for two one-hour sessions will be escorted to the second. These enrichment courses are open to all residents of Merrick’s School District #25 and are held at Birch Elementary School.

JCC Connection Transportation to Merrick Jewish Centre Hebrew School

Need to get your children to Hebrew School? The JCC can pick them up from Merrick and Bellmore schools! After arriving at the JCC, children will be given a nutritious Kosher snack, start their homework and be delivered to their Hebrew school class at 4:15 p.m.

Friedberg JCC’s Sunrise Day Camp for Children with Cancer

Sunrise Day Camp- Long Island, founded in 2006, is a project of the Friedberg JCC and is the flagship program of the Sunrise Association. It is the first of the Associaton’s full summer dedicated day camp and year-round programs for children with cancer, ages 3 ½–16, and their siblings. Sunrise Day Camps are the only one of its kind in the world - a very special place where children can come, free of charge, and enjoy a summer filled with fun, friendship and activities—things that are often denied them because of their medical condition.

Sunrise Day Camp and Its Year–Round Programs: Where Children with Cancer Find a New Beginning Every Day...

As a day camp, Sunrise safely meets our children’s needs for fun and adventure, while allowing them to enjoy the comfort and security of their own home at night. Recognizing the extraordinary financial demands that a child’s chronic illness can have on a family, Sunrise Day Camp and Year-Round Programs are offered at no fee to all children being treated for cancer, on a non-sectarian basis—nobody is ever turned away due to financial hardship.

More than just a summer camp we offer Sunrise Fun-Days during school vacation breaks and Sunrise Sundays monthly year round. Should any of our campers be hospitalized for any reason, our staff and volunteers from “Sunshine from Sunrise” will visit with a camp bag filled with gifts. For children in outpatient clinics awaiting treatment, “Sunrise on Wheels” rolls in with a magical trunk filled with toys and fun.

High school students with a record of volunteerism in Ezra programs will be eligible for consideration in a program of learning and service. C.L.A.S.S.P. interns are hired to work in programs serving individuals with special needs. They also are required to attend classes at C.W. Post for which they receive college credit.
