PRINT

Graphic Design:

We create more than eye-catching designs. We create an entire digital experience that adds value to your brand and gives your audience the functionality they need.

Offset Litho Printing:

Offset Printing is great for large print runs of business cards, letterheads, catalogues, books/booklets, business forms, flyers, brochures, calendars, invitations and so much more. Offset printing offers the best price per piece in the printing industry. It is also the highest quality printing process in the industry. The process produces prints with rich, smooth solids without the streaking found in lesser quality prints. Actual inks are used, not toner.

Digital Printing:

Modern printing methods such as laser and ink-jet printing are known as digital printing. In digital printing, an image is sent directly to the printer using digital files such as PDFs and those from graphics software such as Illustrator and InDesign. This eliminates the need for a printing plate, which is used in offset printing, which can save money and time. This process is ideal for short print runs.

Promotional Products:

We get excited about great products. From office essentials to elaborate promotional campaigns, Kudu supply branded merchandise to bridge the gap between brands and their audiences.

Banners and Signs:

Our vinyl banner printing shop can produce outdoor vinyl banners up to eight feet wide and thirty feet long, and our new UV curable flatbed machines print directly on waterproof material.

EDITORS PAGE

Hard to believe but FREESTYLE MAGAZINE is 10 years old. May 2007 saw the first issue being released and here we are 10 years later, slightly older but probably no wiser. With this in mind I have done a little research and discovered what was making the news headlines in 2007 (see page 22). Here at Freestyle we would like to thank our many advertisers who have supported us throughout the years. Some of our advertisers have been with us since the first issue. We would also like to thank our readers who not only use many of the services advertised in this magazine but who keep us informed of local events and celebrations During the past 10 years we have seen businesses change hands, people retire, people moving on and new businesses

opening and encouragingly for us a majority have asked to advertise with us, many of them citing how our approach is casual and friendly, maybe this is because we are locals who understand the needs of the community.

2 00 7 - 20 1 7

Please send any articles of interest to us and we will do our best to put them in the next edition. If you are a business and would like to advertise please contact us by phone or email, contact numbers are below. Enjoy the late May Bank Holiday, and to all Dads have a great Fathers Day. .

There is something special about saying farewell to winter and welcoming in the summer season. Most of us have what we call a winter and summer wardrobe, so preparing for summer is quite easy. Reusing last summers clothes is usually the norm, but sometimes a few pieces need updating, just to stay en-vogue or because the old ones are too tatty.

Get Set For

Summer! Updating your wardrobe

This is easy as you can just pick a few simple items that will compliment what you already have. A few new T shirts or light jackets in different colours can extend your wardrobe. A cool pair of shades will not only protect your eyes, but will always give you a cool and sophisticated appearance and a nice floppy sun hat or bandana will add a touch of chic, for that French Riviera look.

Bags of Style

There is nothing better than an oversized bag to give you that Hollywood glam look, and the summer is the perfect time to embrace this fashion trend. Invest in a colourful and funky beach bag; this can also double up as hand luggage if you are holidaying overseas.

Inside Out

Don’t Forget Your Feet

Nicely groomed nails and perfectly polished tootsies look great in summer, so make sure they are in tip-top condition and opt for open toe or flip flop style sandals instead of heavy training shoes. Your feet will love the fresh air and there are lots of great new styles and fashionable footwear trends to choose from.

8

You will probably be spending more time outside now that the weather is getting warmer and the nights longer. So look at creating a comfy outdoor space. Look for furniture sets which are designed to withstand the elements, some outdoor furniture even has storage built in and is great for locking away your comfy cushions when you are not using them. Think about scented candles, hurricane lamps and garden lights to complete the space and of course scented plants to give an aromatic and natural feel.

FARSLEY CELTIC ON THE UP! By Paul Hatt

Farsley Celtic FC: Season Review. The 2016/17 campaign will go down in the

Club’s history as one of the most dramatic yet successful. After a staggering 62 league and cup games, the Celts lifted the West Riding County Cup beating Tadcaster Albion 4-2 on penalties and then sealed promotion in the Evo-Stik League First Division North Play-Off Final in extra-time against West Yorkshire neighbours Ossett Town.

After an unbeaten pre-season which had seen victories against Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Yorkshire Amateurs, Garforth Town, Leeds United U21s, Campion AFC and a draw with Witton Albion, Farsley opened their league campaign in August with a 1-0 home win over Colwyn Bay. It was followed by a 3-0 at Goole AFC and then a 6-0 win in the FA Cup at Congleton with summer signing James Walshaw bagging a hat-trick. Back in league action Kendal Town were beaten 1-0, before the month ended with a 0-0 draw at Tadcaster Albion. September opened with a 3-0 victory in the FA Cup at Sheffield FC, before Farsley lost their first game of the season, conceding their first goal of the campaign at Trafford in a 1-0 loss. However, that was quickly forgotten as the Celts travelled to Tadcaster Albion in the FA Cup, with a 2-0 win. The month ended with three league victories as Scarborough Athletic (2-1), Burscough (5-0) and Colne (2-1) were beaten as Farsley established themselves amongst the early promotion chasers. The Celts hopes of making it to the FA Cup First Round for only the third time in their history were dashed on the opening weekend of October, when Bishop Auckland pinched the tie 1-0 at Throstle Nest. It was the first of three successive cup matches as Farsley then defeated Liversedge 3-2 in the West Riding County Cup and Radcliffe Borough 3-1 away in the FA Trophy. Back in league action, the Celts suffered two defeats on the bounce for the first time in the campaign, as they let a 2-1 lead end in 4-2 defeat to Lancaster City at the Nest and then slipped to a 2-1 loss at Brighouse Town. But the team showed their resolve bouncing back with a 3-0 win at Prescot Cables and made further progress in the FA Trophy beating Mossley on the road 3-1. November proved to be an incredible month as the team went undefeated in eight league and cup games and in the process win the Evo-Stik League First Division North Team of the Month Award. In the league, Mossley (3-1) and Hyde United (2-1) were beaten, whilst Ramsbottom United claimed a 0-0 draw at the Nest. The remainder of the month saw the Celts play five games, only one of which was in the league, as their fixture backlog began to build. Farsley caused an upset in the FA Trophy as Evo-Stik Premier Division Barwell were beaten 3-2 on their own patch and progress was then made in the Integro League Cup as Ossett Albion were beaten 4-2 away. Valuable league points were then gained at Glossop North End in a 2-0 victory before a titanic FA Trophy tie with Tamworth. Farsley hosted the Conference North side and looked to have won the game 2-1 with seconds left, only to be denied by a late leveler from the visitors. Undaunted the Celts went to Tamworth and demolished them 4-0 with a sublime Walshaw hat-trick in a game though to be Farsley’s best showing of the campaign.

The New Year though brought a new resolve as Farsley went unbeaten in seven league and cup games in January, scoring 26 goals and earning a second Evo-Stik League First Division North Team of the Month Award. Tadcaster Albion were beaten 5-1 including a Walshaw hat-trick and he went one better in the next game as he scored four at Radcliffe Borough in a 5-0 win. Guiseley were then seen off 4-2 in the Quarter-Finals of the County Cup, before a 3-2 league win at Colne, a draw on the road at Droylsden and a dramatic 3-2 win over Brighouse Town. The month ended with a 5-2 victory over Goole AFC in the League Cup as Chris Howarth showed his versatility with a hat-trick. February began with a trip to leaders Lancaster City and the Celts were cruising at 2-0 with fifteen minutes remaining, but in a repeat of the home game, City stormed back to take the points with a 3-2 win. Farsley though regrouped and picked up wins at Scarborough and at home against Glossop, before a 3-2 defeat at Evo-Stik Premier Division Ashton United in the League Cup. Back in league action, Clitheroe were dispatched 3-1, and then the Celts beat Bradford Park Avenue by the same score to reach the Final of the West Riding County Cup Final. The month then ended with a 2-1 win over Prescot Cables. The penultimate month of the season was a busy one as the Celts played eight league fixtures as they tried to make up points difference on leaders Lancaster. It started well, with an incredible 5-4 victory against Hyde United and was followed by a 7-0 mauling of Ramsbottom in which Lewis Nightingale bagged a hat-trick. Nightingale was also the hero in the next game, a 2-1 win over Ossett Albion as he scored a late winner. However, with suspensions and injuries taking their toll, the Celts suffered their worst run of the season, losing three of the next four league games against Goole AFC (2-1), Clitheroe (4-2), both at home and away at Bamber Bridge (2-0), with a 5-3 home win over Bamber Bridge breaking the sequence. A trip to Mossley at the end of March though saw the Celts return to the top of the league with a 2-0 win. So to April and the climax of the campaign. It was one that swung this way and that as the Celts and Lancaster City traded places at the top of the league. The month opened with a 1-1 draw with Droylsden and a 4-0 win over Radcliffe Borough, before Farsley lifted their first piece of silverware by beating Tadcaster Albion in the County Cup Final, 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in ninety minutes. Farsley then travelled to Colwyn Bay and earned a point, and with Lancaster struggling, it meant that the Celts could take the title on Easter Monday if they bettered the result of Lancaster at Throstle Nest against Ossett Town. However, Town

After the highs of November the final month of 2016 prove to be a difficult one. Trafford completed the double over the Celts with a 1-0 league victory at the Nest, before further progress in the County Cup was made with a 3-1 win over Glasshoughton Welfare. Farsley’s run in the FA Trophy ended as National Conference team showed their class with a comprehensive 4-0 win at the Nest. The Celts then were held 0-0 at Ossett Albion, before beating Burscough 3-1, but then lost their final game of the year 3-2 on Boxing Day at Ossett Town as the Celts conceded two goals in the last ten minutes.

won 2-0 and with City winning it meant the Championship was no longer in the Celts hands going into the last game as Lancaster held a one point advantage. Farsley went to Kendal Town and won 5-0, but Lancaster won comfortably at Glossop, sending the Celts into the Play-Offs. Having finished second, Farsley hosted fifth-placed Colne and were professional in dispatching the Lancastrian team 4-0. It set up a Final with Ossett Town who had just weeks before dashed Farsley’s title dreams. A crowd of 829 was treated to a dramatic finale to the season. Farsley took the lead early in the second-half as Adam Clayton headed the Celts in front, but were pegged back by Ossett on seventy minutes. Just after that there was a long delay as the referee went off injured and it was to have a significant bearing on the game. Three minutes from time Town took the lead as Frost got his and Ossett’s second of the day and it looked like the Celts dream of promotion was over. However, due to the long stoppage in the second-half, there were seven minutes of time added on. In the second of these, the Celts struck back. An Aiden Savory cross was deflected onto the post and Richard Marshall gleefully smashed it home from close range to make it 2-2. Into extra-time and the first period passed without incident. In the second-period the Celts seemed to get

stronger and ten minutes from time, Ryan Watson let fly from outside the box to put Farsley ahead. The icing on the cake arrived two minutes later as James Walshaw twisted and turned in the box before curling home his fiftieth goal of the campaign and put the Celts 4-2 in front. At the whistle there were delirious scenes as fans flooded onto the pitch to celebrate with the team and management, what had been an incredible end to a simply unbelievable season.

Banging BUFFALO

WINGS

The buffalo wing is pretty much a household name nowadays and most bars and restaurants have some type of hot wings on their menus. The name, as you can probably guess, does not come from a very small cow like creature that can fly, but from the place in which they were originally invented, Buffalo in the US. As with most famous dishes the origin is always in dispute, but in this case there are two restaurants that claim to be the creators, John Young’s Wings n Things and the Anchor Bar, both of which are situated in Buffalo, New York. If the stories are to be believed then it is Teressa Bellissimo, who ran the Anchor Bar along with her husband Frank that we have to thank for this marvellous creation. Apparently they used to order backs and necks in order to prepare their spaghetti sauce for their restaurant, but for some reason the delivery got mixed up and they received a huge supply of wings instead. Her son came home unannounced one night with a large group of friends in tow. In order to feed them all quickly, Frank gave the wings to his wife and said “Do something with them!” Normally the wings would have been used as stock, but on this occasion as she had so many, that Teressa decided to toss them in the deep fryer and then cover them in hot cayenne pepper sauce. The dish was a massive hit, not to mention a tasty way to use up the cheaper and less attractive cuts of the chicken. It soon ended up on the menu, and the rest, as they say, is history. In order to prepare Buffalo wings yourself, it is pretty easy. All you need to do is to deep fry some chicken wings and then smother them in super-hot, cayenne pepper sauce. Most places will serve them with a few crudities of celery and carrot alongside a blue cheese or creamy dip in which to cool the palate, but if you fancy trying the real McCoy for yourself, then give this red hot recipe a go. Be warned, this is seriously hot and will definitely make your taste buds tingle. 24

Franks Firey Friday Sauce Preparation Time: 5 Minutes Serves: 4 Ingredients:

8 Fresh Chicken Wings 150ml, Red Hot Pepper Sauce 115g Unsalted Butter 25ml White Wine 1ml Worcestershire Sauce 1 Teaspoon of Ground Cayenne Pepper ½ Teaspoon of Garlic Powder Pinch of Salt for Seasoning

Directions:

Deep fry your chicken wings, drain and place on your serving plate. Next combine all the other ingredients together in a saucepan and place over a medium heat. Whisk continuously, as soon as bubbles begin to appear around the edges of the pan, remove it from the heat and continue to whisk. Once the sauce is nice and smooth, simply pour it over the deep fried chicken wings, serve immediately and enjoy!

PUNCH

DR UN K

Have you ever arranged a get together and found that you always end up with loads of bottles of cheap fizzy wine or cava that nobody wants to drink?

This seems to be the norm in the summer, and although they may look like a nice gift, often they are the last to get drunk as your guest reach for the cold beers or the most tasteful options instead. So what do you do with all of these unopened and unpopular bottles of plonk? Fruity punches are a great way of not only giving your guest something different to drink, but are a great way of using up all of that acidity wine that has been sitting unopened in your wine rack for ages. The trick is to balance out the acidity using a fruit or a combination of different fruits mixed with it, berries, cranberries, pomegranates, orange and melon work particularly well and look great as they add a nice summery colour to the drink too.

CRANBERRY ZINGER

This is a really nice drink for a hot day, as it’s packed full of cranberries or pomegranate which not only have a natural cooling effect on the body but also have a sweet but dry taste. This particular recipe has a slushy consistency and stays nice and cold while you enjoy your friends company or tend to the BBQ. Servings: 30 Glasses Preparation time: 10 Mins (not including freezing time) Ingredients: 1 Litre of cranberry or pomegranate juice (frozen & crushed) 1 Litre of lemonade (pink if possible) 500ml of limeade 1 Bottle of fizzy white wine or cava 1 Litre of fizzy water 1 Large lemon – sliced fro decoration Fresh mint for garnish Directions: First freeze the cranberry or pomegranate juice. The easy way to do this is by pouring it into little ice cube trays and allowing it to set. When they are properly set, put them into a plastic bag and crunch them down with a rolling pin or something heavy. Once they resemble large chunks simply add them to the bottom of the 26

punch bowl, and pour all of the other ingredients on top, the fizz will do the rest. Mix all of the ingredients together and lay the lemon slices and mint on the top. You are now ready to serve and enjoy.

RUSSIAN SPRITZ

This is a really cooling drink and very easy to make perfect for dining alfresco, but beware as it may taste sweet and innocent, but it does come with a bit of a kick! Serving: 30 Glasses Preparation time: 60 Mins Ingredients: Half of a big watermelon cut into 2cm chunks ½ a Litre of Vodka 1 Litre of fizzy wine or cava 1 Litre of ginger ale 1 Litre of orange juice Ice cubes (crushed) Directions: First cut a few wedge shaped pieces of melon for decoration and leave them to one side for later. Next cut the remaining melon into chunks and place them in the bottom of the punch bowl. Cover them with the Vodka and leave them to one side for about an hour to allow the alcohol to penetrate into the melon. Next crush down the melon with a potato masher or fork and add the crushed ice. Add all of the other ingredients to the bowl and mix well. Serve cold.
