Your contributions helped make the benefit an overwhelmingly huge success. Once again, it was brought to light what an awesome and caring community we live in. An individual never knows how many lives they have touched until something like this transpires. A big thank you to Kathy Phillips for organizing the benefit and for all the effort, time, and work she put into it. Also, thank you to the volunteers in the kitchen and dining room and those who helped set up and take down after the benefit. Everyone operated as a team and all were absolutely tremendous! I am so grateful and feel blessed to have so many family, friends, and neighbors that think of and care so much for me that they took time from their busy lives and gave many food and cash donations to help me in my time of need.

I would like to give a special thanks to the Eagles Club #2258 for letting us use their facilities to hold the event. Also, thank you for the donations from Plaza Morena for the enchiladas, Mrs. Gerry’s for the potato salad, Lonnie and Destiny Smith and family for the ground beef, and Brian Anderson of Brownberry Bread for the donations of buns.

In addition, I want to thank my friends and co-works from Agilis and the friends and co-workers of my sister, Stacy, who donated hot dishes, salad and desserts. Furthermore, thank you to the Studebakers for providing music. Doug & Brenda (Krueger) Herr & Family On Feb. 13, 2013 Doug Herr was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer which spread to nearby lymph nodes, liver, hip and shoulder. After 24 chemotherapy treatments in 6 months the cancer had progressed; since then they have traveled to get second opinions. In the last 2 months the cancer had advanced requiring even more aggressive radiation and chemotherapy. Doug had not been able to work much due to the harsh side effects of the new treatments and the additional time spent in the hospital. He inspired all of us with his amazing spirit and attitude. Originally from Iowa Falls, IA Doug worked for a time at the Mason City Hy-Vee before coming to Albert Lea in January 1997 to become the Kitchen Manager at Hy-Vee. He married Brenda (Krueger) on July 3, 1999. Doug and Brenda have 3 children: Makenzie (11), Addison (7) and Nathan (3). Doug also has 2 sons from a previous relationship: Michael (24) and Mason (22). They have felt blessed because of the love and support from their family and friends.

Doug & Brenda (Krueger) Herr & Family On Feb. 13, 2013 Doug Herr was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer which spread to nearby lymph nodes, liver, hip and shoulder. After 24 chemotherapy treatments in 6 months the cancer had progressed; since then they have traveled to get second opinions. In the last 2 months the cancer had advanced requiring even more aggressive radiation and chemotherapy. Doug had not been able to work much due to the harsh side effects of the new treatments and the additional time spent in the hospital. He inspired all of us with his amazing spirit and attitude. Originally from Iowa Falls, IA Doug worked for a time at the Mason City Hy-Vee before coming to Albert Lea in January 1997 to become the Kitchen Manager at Hy-Vee. He married Brenda (Krueger) on July 3, 1999. Doug and Brenda have 3 children: Makenzie (11), Addison (7) and Nathan (3). Doug also has 2 sons from a previous relationship: Michael (24) and Mason (22). They have felt blessed because of the love and support from their family and friends.
