10 Simple Steps to Being Healthier The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans came out in 2010 and in the spring of 2011 the government released a new visual for Americans for healthy eating – the MyPlate.

Both of these are great to know and to understand. Based on these recommendations, I will be highlighting 10 steps to a healthier YOU! Step 3.

Eat more fruits and veggies!

Sounds easy, but many customers I talk with are not getting the minimum recommend Amy Pleimling Registered Dietitian amount of 5 servings total of fruits and veggies daily. Some quick tips to get in more produce: Eat fruit at breakfast; Keep fruits and veggies out on your counter or desk at work – as opposed to tucking them away until they go bad; Go convenient – buy the steam fresh veggies and prewashed salad blends when they are on sale to make it easier for you; make a fruit smoothie where you can get in dairy, and 2 fruit servings in one glass; be conscious of adding fruits and veggies to both your lunch and supper.

One of our youngest grandchildren called me the other day to say he was sad that Grandpa died. He asked “will you please tell Grandpa I’m so sorry that he died.� I said “I’ll tell him.� We are helping each other get through these difficult days without Allen. You’ve helped us too.

It’s been like that Glenn Campbell Rhinestone Cowboy song. I’ve gotten cards and letters from people I don’t even know. They worked with Allen at the meat packing plant or had their groceries loaded up by Allen at Hy Vee. May God bless every one of you. The Freeborn County Red Cross had a marvelously successful house tour.

All due to the wonderful people who were involved with it, as well as the generous people who bought tickets and toured the homes.

First and foremost a huge thank you to David and Becky Ausen, David and Mary Behrends, Paul and Tina Horejsi, John Pershbacher and Susie Avery, and Gordon and Kathy Toenges! Little more than a year ago they were in shambles, but after unbelievably hard work were willing to put their homes on the tour for the Red Cross.

All due to the wonderful people who were involved with it, as well as the generous people who bought tickets and toured the homes.

First and foremost a huge thank you to David and Becky Ausen, David and Mary Behrends, Paul and Tina Horejsi, John Pershbacher and Susie Avery, and Gordon and Kathy Toenges! Little more than a year ago they were in shambles, but after unbelievably hard work were willing to put their homes on the tour for the Red Cross.

Allen was in the nursing home for 4 months. Every single day he said “Thank you for coming, I love you & wish I could go home with you.

Now Allen has gone home to be with Jesus. We are grateful for Allen’s sake, we surely miss him.

Our family wishes to thank all our friends & relatives for the prayers, visits, cards & letters, food, flowers & plants, memorials, hugs, gifts, phone calls& kind words. Every bit helped us!

Thank you Pastor Andrea & Pastor Todd & the Grace Lutheran staff for Allen’s funeral, to the unit for serving the lunch, to Paula at Bonnerup’s Service for all the help, also thank you to the Good Samaritan staff.

One of our youngest grandchildren called me the other day to say he was sad that Grandpa died. He asked “will you please tell Grandpa I’m so sorry that he died.� I said “I’ll tell him.� We are helping each other get through these difficult days without Allen. You’ve helped us too.

It’s been like that Glenn Campbell Rhinestone Cowboy song. I’ve gotten cards and letters from people I don’t even know. They worked with Allen at the meat packing plant or had their groceries loaded up by Allen at Hy Vee. May God bless every one of you.
