THE YACHTING EXPERIENCE

JUST WHAT GOES IN TO CREATING THE YACHTS OF OUR DREAMS? ARTFULLY CRAFTED FROM CONCEPT THROUGH TO COMPLETION, ARTISANS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD SPEND YEARS SCULPTING, MOULDING, CARVING AND APPLYING AGE-OLD TECHNIQUES TO PRODUCE BESPOKE SUPERYACHTS THAT ARE AKIN TO FLOATING WORKS OF ART.

Work doesn’t finish when night falls in Oss, The Netherlands. Home to the Heesen shipyard, spotlights illuminate aluminium welders as they artfully fuse together a smooth hull. To obtain maximum strength and rigidity, Heesen uses aluminium that is more than three times as thick as that used on the body of a a jumbo jet. For materials that robust, the artisanal skill required to mould them into submission is not the reserve of the small and dainty.

Nearby in Winterswijk, at Heesen’s dedicated yacht interiors workshop, over 130 craftspeople busy away, from draftsmen to cabinet-makers, and upholsterers to French polishers, passing their expertise down through the generations. Aboard 37M/122’ AURELIA (for sale and charter, pg 183), named after the first Gran Turismo with an eye-catching Gulf Oil Racing paint scheme, her automotive design by Bannenberg & Rowell is reflected in mesh infills to suggest radiator grilles and thick stainless steel drawer pulls with knurled detailing, all custom-made by Heesen.

Aboard Amels’ Winch-designed 68M/222’ NENINKA (ex. AURORA BOREALIS), the stone bathtub in the Owner’s suite, backed by a wall of petrified wood, is a labour of love. “We wanted the sculptural form of the bathtub to do the talking so we knew it was important to make the tub from one single block of Cream Liria stone,” says Greig Jolly, Associate at Winch Design.

In NENINKA’s Owner’s study, a constellation artwork, which took eight months to create, was brought to life using stained birds-eye maple, almond gold inlays, mother-of-pearl and coloured shells. A sand-shading technique was used to give depth and create the illusion of looking towards the stars.

“It typically takes five years to build a full custom yacht, but our 65 craftspeople are continually innovating to find new, exciting ways of creating something that hasn’t been done before,” says Jason Chadda, director at Silverlining, which completed much of the finish work and cabinetry aboard 80M/262’ Nobiskrug ARTEFACT (pg 52).

I wanted the sensation of floating through the forest while looking to the sea… so that butterflies fly away as the lift ascends and trees sway as guests walk past.”

The result? “It’s definitely got a little touch of spaceship, but just the right balance,” says ARTEFACT’s Captain, Aaron Clark.

Along with the Owner, Captain Clark spent eight months and $110,000 building ARTEFACT’s family deck level to scale out of wood and Tyvek construction wrap before the first cut of steel. “It helped us to figure out how much room the Owners need to comfortably live aboard.”

Alongside space, the Owners find comfort in the straight-grain dark walnut floors, taupe ripple fiddle-back sycamore walls, and hand gilded wall glass panels by DKT Artwork. “Our decorative finishes adapt to what the client needs,” says Guglielmo Carrozzo, DKT’s head of marketing. “But a key area that remains the centrepiece aboard any yacht is the staircase. It’s one of the few places where you can tell a story that transitions through the decks.”

Epitomising this is the staircase aboard 89M/292’ HERE COMES THE SUN — an ode to the Owner’s private vineyard. Intricately carved into a stone-like finish using deep carved cast bas-relief, the complex artwork required a series of masters to carve the continuous design, while avoiding any obvious repeats.

“Even the design stage is not straightforward, because an image that looks beautiful on paper isn’t necessarily suitable to carve,” says Carrozzo. “We have to interpret the curve, the angles and the thickness of each layer even before requesting Owner approval.”

For Carrozzo, superyacht craftsmanship is about the preservation of age-old techniques, and the history and talent imbued in every layer. “Gilding is like an endangered skill,” he laughs, “because craftsmanship is not about what you see, but the process behind it. Leaves of gold are applied one-by-one by hand, by multiple artisans at different stages. It takes time, and unfortunately we live in an era with very little patience.”

All design evolves with the moving times, adapting to advancing technologies. But in the world of superyachts, which values quality and exclusivity virtually above all else, an appreciation for craft, knowledge and ancient techniques elevates the ordinary into the realms of the unique.

INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCES FOR LIFE ’S GREAT ADVENTURE

Gastronomic pleasure, full-octane action, total relaxation, a cleansing detox, fabulous parties, reconnection with your family or an adventure where none have been before... that is just some of what luxury yachting has in store for you.

THE GASTRONOMIC DREAM

ARE YOU A PASSIONATE FOODIE? SAVOUR THE WORLD ‘ S MOST TANTALISING FLAVOURS DURING YOUR ONBOARD EXPERIENCE.

Even your most treasured experience at your favourite restaurant cannot compare to the dining pleasures you can expect on board a yacht. Not only is every dish personally conceived and prepared specifically to the tastes and inclinations of you and your guests, but the chefs who are cooking for you on board often come from the world’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants. And while a restaurant is usually shared with other customers, on a yacht, every meal is your own personalised private dining experience — whenever you choose to enjoy it.

It is amazing how important great food becomes during your time on board. Top yacht chefs are, by nature, motivated to challenge themselves to exceed your expectations in every dish and every meal they serve. Indeed, for a yacht chef, a meal goes beyond exquisitely prepared produce and becomes a narrative experience. “A winning dish is a dish studied, made with passion and love, where even without any explanation it manages to convey its entire story,”

22 / 23

explains Alessandro Benacquista, chef on board 70M/229’ FORCE BLUE (for charter). “I try to balance my menus, from appetisers to desserts, to allow guests to have an experience that amuses them and tells them about their gastronomic journey, mixing simple and sophisticated elements.”

And one of the best parts of dining on a yacht is that these world-class skills are yours to enjoy no matter how you choose to dine, from family-style sundeck barbecues to formal dinners. Naturally, should your guests each require a different dish to suit their preferences or nutritional plans, your chef is fully prepared.

Today, Owners and charter guests are more passionate than ever before about the provenance of ingredients, both for health and environmental reasons. While yacht chefs have always sourced the best local ingredients, this experience is now something that guests are actively engaged in. “I always invite guests to come with me to the local market, and many really enjoy it”, says Andrew Reagen, chef on board 76M/249’ WHEELS (for charter).

Chef Benacquista adds: “For meat and fish, the ideal would be to use local and 0 km products, which guarantee quality and convey all the true flavour of the place and the local tradition”. And if an ingredient is not available locally? No problem. Chefs and crews have contacts all over the world to ensure that any food or drink you would like can be brought on board, from English strawberries to Caribbean rum.

Of course, what matters most is what guests and Owners have to say. “We were blown away by the food,” summed up one guest after their 48M/157’ yacht experience. “Every meal was incredible — our group spent a lot of time arguing about which was the best! Our whole group was raving about the chef the entire trip. Plus, for every meal, the stewardess would have a beautiful new tablescape set up which was so fun and impressive!”

“The chef was outstanding to say the least,” said another guest, after chartering a 33M/108’ yacht. “He was so accommodating with eight people that all wanted a little something different. I would say the only complaint we had with the food is that we are all about ten pounds heavier now!” The ultimate compliment to any chef.

For some, the thought of a week or two lying on a sundeck being served signature cocktails is a dream come true. But for others, each day needs to be full of energy and activity. If that is more you... then here comes some great news.

Do you have a morning workout routine at home that you do not want to interrupt once on board? Many yachts offer air-conditioned gyms fully equipped with the latest gear, including 52M/170‘ LATITUDE (for charter) whose brand new dedicated indoor gym features not only the newest Technogym equipment but a holographic-style display built into the mirror, enabling you to take virtual workout classes from around the world.

And even better than your gym on land, yacht gyms often make the most of the natural environment. What better way to start your day than with an al fresco treadmill session overlooking the ocean in the dedicated outdoor gym on board 49M/162‘ VIBRANCE (for sale and charter), or in a glass gym on the sundeck with 360-degree views? On 44M/144’ AMADEUS I (for charter), after your workout in the beach club gym, take a few steps to the sauna to wind down (turn to page 26 for more about well-being on board). Or why not choose an onboard pool with counter-flow current for your workout? And if you need a fitness professional on hand, crew members often double up as personal trainers: your workout in the gym on 55M/180’ KAMALAYA (for charter) can be accompanied by an onboard personal trainer and some yachts, including LATITUDE, even have on-crew sports therapists.

Your crew will also be fully trained professional instructors in what is, for many activity lovers, the best part of any yachting experience: the water toys. Zoom through the water on a jet-ski and enjoy family fun on a sea scooter. Enjoy an energising afternoon of water-skiing and wake boarding. Power yourself through the water on a kayak

or paddle board. Or take on a new challenge — this is the perfect opportunity to try kitesurfing or Flyboarding, have a go at e-foiling or learn how to sail on a catamaran, with top instructors at your side. And for the young (and young at heart), the yacht and the ocean make for the ultimate playground. The crew can set up an inflatable slide, climbing wall, trampoline and more for all-day fun.

“THE TOYS WERE BEYOND FANTASTIC, AND THE CREW TEACHING WERE SO HELPFUL.”

“The toys were beyond fantastic, and the crew teaching were so helpful and made it great fun,” said a recent client of a 50M/164’ yacht. And the crew go far beyond teaching: “The deckhands were right there with us the entire time with a drone, GoPro and a camera taking pictures and video that will last a lifetime for our family,” said a client of a 33M/108’ yacht.

And it doesn’t need to end there. Your workout can also extend on land. Your crew can take you by tender to the best running and biking trails on nearby islands and coasts, often rewarded with fantastic views. Many yachts including 52M/172’ BIG EAGLE (for charter), carry bicycles for an active day of onshore exploration. Alternatively, many guests today choose to explore beneath the surface and make the most of the stunning dive destinations only accessible to yachts. Learn more about exploring underwater and on land on page 34.

PERSONAL WELL-BEING ESCAPE FROM A ZEN SPA BREAK TO A FULL NUTRITIONAL DETOX, ESCAPE FROM THE WORLD AND DISCOVER A WHOLE NEW YOU.

Ask anyone how they feel after their yacht experience, and the word “relaxed” will be part of their answer. Naturally, time away from home and our busy day-to-day lives, enjoying personalised five-star service in stunning destinations, is the perfect way to relax and one of the key benefits of time on board.

On a yacht, relaxation, health and well-being can be taken to a whole new level. Imagine having your own private ocean beach club, ready to welcome you for a massage at any time.

You may have a favourite luxury spa on land, but on some larger yachts, you can enjoy a full spa all to yourself, complete with onboard massage and beauty professionals. On yachts like FORCE BLUE, experience one of the most expansive and best-equipped professional spas on the water, featuring a massage room, beauty area, hair salon, steam shower hammam, mud bath and hydro massage Jacuzzi. At your disposal, to enjoy as often you choose,

are specialised professional treatments including tendon-muscle massage, hydro-aromatherapy and phyto-mud therapy, plus facials, manicures, pedicures and professional hairdressing.

For many guests, having a spa therapist on hand 24/7 is the ultimate luxury. “Knowing a masseuse was available whenever and wherever I wanted was the ultimate treat,” said one female client after spending time on board a 52M/170’ yacht in the Caribbean. “In one week, I feel like I’ve knocked two decades off my age!” On WHEELS, the full-time masseuse can offer treatments anytime, anywhere on board, including the dedicated massage room, your private suite, or out on deck just a few steps from the hot tub for a post-massage dip. And to loosen your tight muscles even further, many yachts including 64M/211’ MIKHAIL S. VORONTSOV and 41M/135’ KOMOKWA (both for charter) feature saunas. Take it up a notch with an onboard cryosauna, or try out the Himalayan salt walled sauna on 51M/166’ ARESTEAS (for sale and charter).

HAVING YOUR OWN PRIVATE SPA OR OCEAN BEACH CLUB, READY TO WELCOME YOU FOR A MASSAGE AT ANY TIME.”

As well as masseuses and beauticians, many of today’s multi-talented crews also offer qualified yoga and Pilates instructors, as well as personal trainers and water sports instructors (see page 24 if you are looking for the ultimate active experience on board). Guests on board often start their day with a yoga session out on the sundeck led by a professional instructor.

“It was so nice having the masseuse and yoga instructors on board — they were excellent!” said one recent guest. If you are looking for a specialist personal training programme to achieve specific goals, one can be organised on the yacht.

When it comes to dining on board, as you can read on page 22, anything is possible — including any dietary plan. “It’s absolutely possible for us to arrange a detox charter,” says Fraser Charter Broker Frances Edgeworth. “Your chef can prepare a special menu based on the health and nutritional goals you want to achieve, if necessary working with a dietician or nutritionist that we will arrange to be on board with you.” From plant-based to paleo, low-fat to low-carb and anything in between, experienced yacht chefs are ready for anything.

No matter what your personal goals, you can expect to step back on land relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for anything.

The thrill of competition is, for many of us, a great motivator in our lives. Whether you are on board as a family, with friends, or just hosting guests for an evening, enjoy games of every type during your yachting experience.

Do you love baccarat, roulette, poker and other casino classics?

The Casino de Monte-Carlo is an unmissable calling point for many Owners and Charterers on the French Riviera. But if you prefer to stay on board, or are cruising in another worldwide destination, you can enjoy an incredible casino night without leaving the comfort of your yacht. Speak to your Broker about buying or chartering a yacht with games tables — the sky lounge is an ideal spot — and enjoy games nights with your guests whenever you choose. Many yachts including 39M/130’ charter yacht ALL INN (for charter) are equipped with a games table and poker gear, plus board games, for fun with friends and family at any time.

And for a truly unforgettable casino night on board, the crew can make a deck space or salon into a casino for the evening, with professional equipment, lights, gaming tables and costumes — croupiers can even be brought on board to make the night even more authentic. “I will never forget the moment we walked on to the sundeck one evening to see the place completely transformed for the casino night we had requested,” remembers a guest on board a 50M/164’ yacht. “Friends arrived by tender and couldn’t believe their eyes. I don’t think any of us will ever forget the amazing evening we spent together.”

If you — or your children — prefer your gaming in the virtual realm, most yachts are equipped with X-Boxes, PlayStations and state-ofthe-art consoles, plus the latest games. And thanks to high-speed

connectivity, playing live with friends can today be done from the middle of the Caribbean Sea, just as at home. For the big-screen experience, the crew can set up a gaming space around the yacht’s biggest screen, for example on FORMOSA’s UHD 4M x 1.5M / 13’ x 5’ screen or in WHEELS’ dedicated 12-seater cinema. By night, you can even enjoy gaming in an outdoor cinema, found today on many yachts and able to be set up quickly by the crew.

“I WILL NEVER FORGET THE MOMENT THE SUNDECK WAS COMPLETELY TRANSFORMED FOR A CASINO NIGHT.”

Live sports can also be enjoyed on board. From following your favourite team in BIG EAGLE’s dedicated sports bar to shooting hoops on an onboard basketball court, honing your skills on a yacht’s volleyball court or hitting fish-food golf balls from a professional PGA tee on the sundeck, a yacht is a haven for sports fans of all types.

Even a day at the beach can be an opportunity for some fun competition, thanks to your crew and the beach games on board your yacht. From beach volleyball and football to paddle board relays and kayak races around the yacht, a full day of beach and water Olympics can be organised by your crew, rewarded by a barbecue prepared by the chef. Everyone’s a winner!

PARTY TIME

ARE YOU AT YOUR HAPPIEST DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY, SURROUNDED BY THOSE YOU LOVE? THROW THE PARTY OF A LIFETIME AGAINST YOUR OWN BACKDROP WITH THE FINEST IN HOSPITALITY.

Life is for celebrating — and where better than a yacht to raise a glass to everything that has brought you to this moment? Yachts can offer huge deck spaces to host up to 100 guests (or in a few cases even more — depending on the circumstances, FORCE BLUE can host up to 350), multiple bars stocked with your favourite Champagne and cocktail ingredients and great sound systems. They also come with imaginative, creative crews, often including professional mixologists and magicians, who will provide you and your guests with the best seven-star hospitality. Crew are experts in transforming deck spaces into anything from elegant Venetian piazzas to Oscar-night red carpets. Whether you’re looking for delectable canapés or a formal seven-course dinner for your event, rest assured that each guest will leave happy.

On board certain yachts, transforming a space from a daytime relaxation deck into a ready-to-rock party venue can even happen at the touch of a button. WHEELS’ main salon and sundeck can be

30 / 31

transformed into a disco area with professional disco lights, smoke machine and DJ-grade sound system. BIG EAGLE has a dedicated party deck with covered dining for up to 50 guests and a large bar (the space can be fully enclosed and heated), as well as an onboard sports bar with full bar and wine chiller.

While many yachts today boast the latest Bose and Sonos sound systems that instantly link to your phone, for an unforgettable evening you might prefer to have a DJ or band brought on board. From a traditional local group in your destination to your favourite international superstar act, artists can be arranged to perform privately for you and your guests — an evening no one will ever forget.

Birthdays, anniversaries, engagements or even weddings and other landmark celebrations are often celebrated on board — let the crew know about your event and they will arrange a special meal, decorations, cakes and whatever entertainment you would like. Want to finish the evening with a surprise world-class firework display arranged just for you? No problem. For younger guests, the crew can arrange birthday parties to beat any other, themed around Harry Potter or their favourite superhero, or for teens, perhaps a sports or gaming themed event.

Some families choose to create a new Christmas, Thanksgiving or New Year’s Eve tradition by spending it on board. “We were all a little nervous as to how Thanksgiving would go,” said a recent client of a 33M/108’ yacht. “Not only did it meet our expectations, but now it is going to be hard to do anything but this every Thanksgiving! We also celebrated a birthday on board and the cake was beyond incredible — the chef is truly an artist.”

Many Owners today choose to make their yachts available for events such as the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival — a unique way for guests to experience an event from the heart of the action and enjoy all the spaces and party features, with exceptional service from the crew. And for Owners, it can be an excellent revenue stream.

Arecent guest on board a 36M/118’ yacht perfectly summed up what is so special about bringing all the family together for an onboard experience: “It was the most beautiful vacation that we ever shared with each other and the fact that I could ‘give’ my family that fills me with a lot of gratitude and pride.” Being able to create a space of relaxation for every member of the family, from young children and bored teens to busy parents and adoring grandparents, is indeed a true gift. You are giving each family member memories of special moments that they will treasure for ever.

Because, as you have read on the previous pages, yachts are so packed with features, amenities and activities, every family member can be doing something different on board at any time. For children, crew can arrange brilliant creative experiences that keep them occupied all day, including pirate treasure hunts and on-the-water obstacle courses with inflatable climbing walls, trampolines and slides. Depending on age, kids can learn to sail in Hobie Cats, try windsurfing or paddle boarding and discover the underwater world by snorkel, supervised by trusted professionals. Some yachts also have dedicated children’s playrooms.

At the same time, parents can be relaxing with a massage or chilling in the hot tub with peace of mind, and older relatives might choose to enjoy baccarat and other games. For multi-generational families with physical needs, many yachts have capacity for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and are equipped with elevators for easy movement around the yacht.

A typical day for a teen on board could include a morning on the jet-skis or water-skis, a scuba diving lesson and an evening session of

live gaming on the big screen. Yachts with dedicated beauticians often offer treatments tailored to teens. And thanks to excellent WiFi and connectivity on board, they can easily stay connected to friends and schoolwork throughout — if they choose to. “Our teenage grandchildren love the jet-skis and the slide; they love getting on the little rubber dinghy to go up and down the beaches and explore. They’re not sitting there over their phones and computers, they’re busy being active and seeing nature and seeing a new place every time we go on board,” remembers the Owner of 39M/130’ ALL INN of a recent experience on board.

“BEING ABLE TO CREATE A SPACE OF RELAXATION FOR EVERYONE, FROM YOUNG CHILDREN AND BORED TEENS TO PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, IS INDEED A TRUE GIFT.”

After sunset, a wonderful dinner (with all family members’ diets catered for) is a great opportunity to re-connect and catch up on a day of activities. To close the day, why not enjoy a family movie night in your yacht’s cinema or out on deck, where the crew can set up a comfortable outdoor cinema beneath the stars?

For many families, moments like these, and the many other memories created together, mean they can’t wait to come back year after year. As one guest on a 33M/108’ charter yacht puts it: “Our kids were literally in tears in the car on the way home from the boat, and not just from the amazing experience we had just had, but because of the friendship and love they had for the people that made it happen.”

DISCOVERY, EXPLORATION & ADVENTURE

HELI-SKI IN THE MORNING, DEEP-SEA DIVE BY SUBMARINE IN THE AFTERNOON: THERE ARE NO LIMITS WHEN IT COMES TO ADVENTURE EXPERIENCES FROM YOUR YACHT.

34 / 35

The capability of an explorer yacht to go anywhere in the world means, for you and your guests, total freedom. Engineered for long periods of autonomy at sea, built with hulls that cut through ice, and equipped with everything from helicopters and submarines to full medical suites and research laboratories, these yachts open up any adventure you can dream of. All in complete safety, with highly experienced experts by your side.

Are you passionate about skiing and eager to experience slopes that no one else can? Heli-skiing is an adventure like no other — and a yacht is the perfect platform for it. On a charter on board 77M/252’ LA DATCHA, jump aboard one of the yacht’s two helicopters to a peak of virgin powder snow and feel the freedom of a perfect run. Non-skiers can get their adrenaline hit on the yacht’s snow scooters. After a day in the snow, retreat to the yacht’s spa with sauna, hammam and more.

Beyond skiing, helicopters also offer the flexibility to reach any island or landmark on your itinerary quickly and safely, as well as the best vantage point for taking in spectacular views over the glaciers of Antarctica or the islands of French Polynesia. As for exploring by land or sea, in the garage you will find tenders designed for extreme destinations and amphibious jeeps as well as the latest water toys.

Returning to nature and getting up close to wildlife are the greatest benefits of an adventure yachting experience. Newly opened for charter, a week in Costa Rica offers opportunities to encounter hundreds of rare species with a private naturalist guide to enhance your discovery journey. Other Owners and Charterers enjoy fantastic sportsfishing, and many yachts are equipped with specialist tenders with fishing chairs and gear to offer you different catches every day, with crew members as passionate about fishing as you are.

Large explorer yachts, such as 73M/240’ PLANET NINE (for sale), which boasts a commercially approved helideck, also feature stateof-the-art cinemas, for watching drone and video footage of the adventures you have just enjoyed. 76M/251’ YERSIN has a fully equipped research laboratory/classroom/conference room on board, enabling education alongside exploration.

The world beneath the waves holds, for many, just as much allure as the world above. Full onboard dive centres, with professional equipment including scuba gear, decompression chambers and air & nitrox capabilities mean you can enjoy as many dives as you choose, at any time, directly from the yacht. Onboard dive instructors (or local professionals brought in) are on hand to teach and accompany you safely. “The overall diving was incredible — it was like an aquarium. Our two teenage boys loved Tahiti so much they want to go back,” enthused a family who recently chartered 33M/108’ ASKARI.

GREEN EVOLUTION

MORE THAN ASPIRATION, SUSTAINABILITY IN YACHTING IS INCREASINGLY A REQUIREMENT. WE UNCOVER THE ACTIONS AND TECHNOLOGY BENEFITTING OWNERS TODAY.

As more of us have, over the last two years, had time to rediscover just how much the natural world has to offer, today’s yacht Owners, Charterers and the yachting industry are, after years of talking, collectively and actively taking steps towards a global change and a sustainable future.

What does that mean for you as an environmentally motivated Owner building a yacht? It means you have chosen the perfect time, when shipyards, designers and suppliers are not only committed to building sustainable vessels, but have the technology in place to do just that. And for added peace of mind, you can be assured that when you come to sell, yachts that already comply with future regulations (or can be easily adapted) will sell fastest and for the best price.

“As more clients are buying new-builds, with 2021 seeing a 233% increase in new-build sales on the last 3 years at Fraser, we are also seeing more requests for yachts to be built sustainably, utilising the latest available green technology,” says Fraser Technical Manager Laurent Bredy.

Innovations in propulsion and energy sources are at the heart of making yachts truly sustainable. Shipyards, designers and naval architects are seriously looking into hydrogen propulsion, meaning zero emissions. This technology is already being integrated into the build of one yacht for sale with Fraser, 19M/63’ AQUON ONE (for sale, pg 223), launching in 2024. Solar panels on the roof of AQUON ONE’s flybridge enable her to create her own renewable solar energy supply, which in turn is used to create hydrogen fuel.

Lürssen has taken hydrogen one step further. “Everybody is keen on hydrogen, but the issue is storing it on board,” explains sales director Michael Breman. “So we looked at using methanol as an energy carrier, and reforming hydrogen from it. Methanol can be stored almost exactly like diesel, needing only slightly more space. We found a client willing to do it: a real pioneer.” The yard’s first yacht with fuel cell technology can anchor for 15 days or cruise 1,000 miles at a slow speed, completely emission-free. Spring 2022 will also see the opening of Lürssen’s Innovation Laboratory, testing such technologies in real-life conditions.

And while research into new solutions continues, today there are multiple options that can be put in place during the build. Hybrid propulsion systems, typically combining diesel and electric, not only significantly reduce impact and maximise efficiency, but also offer the added benefit of near-silent cruising under electric power.

One of the largest and most significant yachts to successfully employ hybrid propulsion is the revolutionary and multi-awardwinning 107M/353’ Benetti LUMINOSITY.

“Building LUMINOSITY brought us incredible know-how,” says Benetti’s Chief Commercial Officer, Sebastiano Fanizza. “Especially what was really needed to build the biggest hybrid yacht floating at the time of the launch, with 6 MWh of generators and 3 MWh of batteries to power the pods that move her 5,844 GT at 16 knots. Applying this know-how to new projects on a different scale in recent years has been the real challenge. We have learned that sustainability in yachting is about three things: how you build it, how you use it and how you dispose of it. It's the complete product life cycle. If you are able to apply a sustainable cycle for the yacht, and all its components, then you can really talk about sustainability.”

Indeed, there is even a vessel on the water that is built to be 95% recyclable at end-of-life — the ‘cradle-to-cradle’ concept. 76M/251’ YERSIN (for sale with Fraser, see page 204) also features bilge water and wastewater treatment 60% cleaner than the 15ppm

rule, advanced water treatment and recycling systems, non-wood recyclable resin decks and filters on all engines, reducing NOx and SOx emissions by almost 100% and retaining 99.8% of soot particles. In a positive step forward at the regulatory level, new rules mean that every yacht built today is, in terms of engines, required to be built more sustainably than before. New IMO Tier III regulations came into force from 1 January 2021 on all vessels above 24 metres to limit NOx emissions in Nitrogen Emission Control Areas. Thanks to green-minded regulatory bodies, visionary Owners like those of LUMINOSITY and YERSIN, and shipyards ready to embrace innovation, impact-reducing assets like these are just some of the options available to you as the Owner of a new-build project.

performs more efficiently than conventional displacement and semi-displacement hull forms at all speeds and when planing, offers up to 20% lower resistance.

Other options include a Heat Recovery System, which uses recycled engine heat to warm up water for showers, fitting particle filters to prevent NOx and SOx being released, choosing catalytic reactors, and optimising insulation to minimise heat dissipation and reduce air-conditioning.

Similarly, finding alternative solutions for materials can make a real difference: artificial or recycled teak decks, high-performance glass that reduces sunray penetration, soft furnishings made from recycled plastic and aluminium sourced from recycled products (itself recyclable at end-of-life) are just a few examples.

Deciding at the build stage to incorporate sustainability into your vessel means you can be informed by today’s technical research to make the right decisions before construction even begins, with useful tools continually being developed. Water Revolution Foundation’s Yacht Assessment Tool offers a full life cycle assessment of a project at the design and build (or refit) stage, calculating the environmental impact based on ten indicators including global warming, ozone layer depletion, photochemical oxidation, NOx, SOx and water scarcity footprint. “Yachting has such a unique clientele that we are in a position to take the lead within the wider maritime sector to not only reduce environmental impact, but to protect the oceans we need in order to enjoy the yachting lifestyle,” says Executive Director Robert van Tol.

The Feadship-initiated Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI), now under the auspices of the Water Revolution Foundation, also looks at a yacht‘s life cycle, from design and production to Owner use, to measure ecological impact objectively. Feadship is also adopting

hybrid, electric and eventually hydrogen powered propulsion systems, as well as working to source materials sustainably.

Of course, for the most committed Owners, it is not only the yacht itself that should be sustainable, but the operations practiced during construction. “Environmental concerns come in a wide variety. The most obvious is the operating footprint of the yacht, but let’s not forget the sustainable measures being undertaken while building it,” says Thomas Wieringa, Marketing Director of Damen Yachting. Ask your chosen shipyard if they use clean energy. Damen Yachting‘s Vlisisngen yard has 5,000 solar panels generating 1.67 MWp, six recycling streams, LED lighting, and improved insulation to minimise energy loss. Feadship has installed thousands of solar panels at its various Dutch shipyards and uses LED lighting and district heating.

So what needs to happen over the next 5-10 years to bring sustainable yachting to the mainstream? “The technology is there,” says Laurent Bredy. “Now, the market has to grow with the demand. The more clients who ask for sustainability, the more the market will prepare for it. Then it will become more affordable and mainstream. As long as the demand comes, which I think it will based on what we are seeing in new-generation Owners, the market will grow.”

On another level, the biggest change will require a combination of technically prepared, future-ready shipyards and an Owner who dares to be different. “The biggest part of the word Revolution is Evolution,” says Michael Breman. “It will take somebody to revolutionise. Somebody to say: yes, I’ll do it. Most people are not ready to do that yet, but I am hopeful. My hope is that in the next 5 years or so we will have a contract for the first emission-free yacht. And once we have done it, it will be a game changer.”

SUSTAINABILITY

OWNERSHIP

K, MINI K, K2 & MINI K2

Owner’s representative Giampaolo Lo Conte speaks exclusively to Fraser on why these visionary Owners built not one but two acclaimed yachts, with a third launching this summer.

Creating one of the most visually striking and admired new charter yachts on the water does not happen by accident. Building a platform in the ‘sweet-spot’ 50M/164’ charter size range that you cannot wait to step aboard as an Owner, that makes Charterers swoon and that wins the acclaim of the yachting industry worldwide, is an achievement that comes from years of yachting experience and insight. This is how 50M/164’, 2021-launched K2 came to be.

So how did this Owner’s journey begin? “After chartering many times, the Owner reached the decision to have his own boat and purchased the second-hand motor yacht K in 2018 for immediate use,” says the Owner’s Representative of the K fleet of yachts, Giampaolo Lo Conte. The fleet currently consists of K2 and 27M/88’ MINI K (find out more on pgs 146 and 195) and will soon feature MINI K2 , due for delivery in July 2022. 40M/131’ K (now renamed MRS D, see page 177) was part of the Columbus Sport 40 line, and that purchase decision proved one that would define the Owners’ future yachting journey. They had, unusually, found a family of shipyards they loved from day one: Palumbo.

“Right from the beginning, we found ourselves very much in tune with the shipyard Owner,” remembers Lo Conte. With that in mind, after a few happy years on board, the Owners made an unusual decision: to build not just one, but two other vessels, both with the Palumbo Group, using their experience on K as a springboard for ideas. One would be a small, fast yacht for general day-to-day use and fun with friends, and the other, a far larger and more design-led vessel that would really make an impact on the yachting scene, packed with Owner-specific features and ideal for private family times and for chartering. For the launch of their third new-build, this summer, naturally the Owners also chose the Palumbo group.

“The Owners loved the sleek lines and incredibly large interior volumes of K, and that served as a launch pad to move to larger yachts“, says Lo Conte. “Undoubtedly, K served as a reference point. Having tested the finished product and having liked it very much, it made sense for us to stick with Palumbo. Such a direct connection with the shipyard Owner sped up several processes and we knew we were guaranteed

Seeing your ideas take shape and enjoying the results is undoubtedly an exciting journey.”

excellent levels of construction.” The concept: two very different boats, suited for different onboard experiences, occasions, people and destinations. Built by different shipyards, but linked by a single brand identity under the Palumbo umbrella.

The first to launch, in 2019 at Extra Yachts, was MINI K, a fibreglass planing boat capable of reaching 33 knots with a huge 50sqm cockpit for filling with guests. “MINI K was built to address the Owners’ need for an ‘everyday’ yacht,” says Lo Conte. “She is moored between Miami and the Hamptons, depending on the season, and is a fantastic fun boat, perfect for weekends full of fun with family or friends.”

Almost twice the length, and built for more significant experiences on board as well as for chartering, was K2, part of the Columbus yard’s Sport 50 line — a different platform in every way. With a much larger space to play with, what were the Owners looking to achieve on board K2 that they could not with MINI K? “We wanted a yacht with real personality, tailored to meet the Owner’s specific needs, including features that were unusual for this size range,” says Lo Conte. “The large professional gym located in the Owner’s quarters, for example, is by no means common on this type of boat, but the Owner is a true sportsman and this was essential. We also needed a strongly reduced draft to allow the Owner to cruise the Caribbean seas without any restrictions, a tonnage under 500 GT combined with an aluminium hull and superstructure to allow for efficient management, and a maximum speed of over 21 knots.”

K2 hit the water in 2021, after an exciting build process for the Owners and Lo Conte, though not without challenges due to the global situation during the final stages. “The shipyard, and the professionals operating there, always make the construction experience one of a kind,” says Lo Conte. “Seeing your ideas take shape, making choices and enjoying the results is undoubtedly an exciting journey. The Covid 19 pandemic posed the most challenging obstacle to the delivery of K2 and there was some concern about delivery times. But thankfully, everything was resolved in time.”

Once the build was completed and the yacht safely delivered, what did it feel like to walk on board a yacht as unique as K2 for the first time? “It is definitely a satisfying feeling — you can't wait to leave the moorings to set off,” says Lo Conte. “You start noticing the details, you talk to the crew for the latest suggestions on where to go, and you begin to think about every possible plan.”

And those plans are endless with a yacht like this, as Charterers have found. For Lo Conte, it is the combination of everything on board, plus the experience created by a top Captain and crew that keep Charterers coming back time after time. “There are several factors that contribute to making chartering aboard K2 a memorable experience,” says Lo Conte. “One is linked to the yacht-specific characteristic of combining elegant, large internal volumes with a dynamic, streamlined external silhouette endowed with great personality. After that, charter guests love the huge hot tub pool,

the reduced draft that allows them to enjoy bays and coves off limits to other yachts this size, the comfortable upper-deck external walkways and the way they seamlessly merge the aft with the forward area, the beach club with its array of water toys, the gym, the five suites... everything on board is appealing. But beyond all that, I think the Captain and his crew are one of the main strengths of K2’s successful charter formula. With their experience and professionalism they can create an unforgettable time on board for anyone.”

Lo Conte has also enjoyed for himself the true benefits of time spent on board — in fact, his different experiences perfectly demonstrate the varying opportunities available to yacht Owners and Charterers: fun, relaxation, entertainment, active days on the toys, well-being... or a combination of all of these. “I had an amazing time aboard K2 in the Mediterranean, especially in Saint Tropez. Its beautiful coastline and never-ending parties make it the ideal place to have fun with family and friends from dawn to dusk. And the variety of water toys on board did the rest! Aboard MINI K I enjoyed Miami and the Bahamas. In particular, the Exumas has a special place in my heart.

Its untouched nature, with crystal clear waters and white sand beaches, is a magical oasis of total relaxation and rejuvenation.” So with a highly successful charter platform launched, lauded and now being enjoyed by Charterers and her Owner alike, what advice does Lo Conte have for other Owners looking to embark on a new build project? “Have a clear understanding of the timing aspects involved and share an effective communication protocol with the shipyard. And finally, enjoy the journey of your construction process, and use it to gain experience to draw on for your next project.” Enjoy the journey. Advice to remember for any yachting experience.

DREAM

CAPTAIN AARON T CLARK SPEAKS TO FRASER ON BRINGING AN OWNER’S DREAM TO LIFE WITH THE MULTI AWARD-WINNING NOBISKRUG ARTEFACT.

Afull eighteen months after ARTEFACT hit the water, Captain Aaron T Clark found himself standing on the deck, looking at the yacht he had worked for seven years to build, and thinking, for the first time: “This is awesome”.

“I was cruising around in the middle of the ocean, and I caught myself smiling,” he remembers. “It took me a year and a half before I was really able to stand back and absorb it all. The world is very impatient for instant gratification, but after we first launched I was still remembering everything it took to make the yacht, asking myself: is it working for the Owner and his guests? Is it working for the crew? Is the vision of it working? Finally I could say: this works.”

As descriptions go, awesome is no hyperbole when it comes to 80M/262‘ ARTEFACT. From her groundbreaking use of glass — 720 square metres, 58 tons and 223 pieces in total — to her innovative diesel-electric propulsion system which results in exceptionally quiet cruising to her dynamic positioning system, she smashes every boundary of possibility in yachting. Since her launch in 2020, she has won more awards than any other yacht in history — a replica set of which the Owner had made for Aaron, telling him: “These are your awards”. His comment was a recognition of just how crucial the role of Build Captain is to the successful design, construction, launch and

ongoing operation of a yacht as unique as ARTEFACT. The yacht‘s motto: The perfect marriage of art and science.

What motived this Owner to create something not just unique, but so far beyond anything that has been achieved before? “Not to look like all the other boats! To look cutting edge. But also, when you look at this boat you think, wow — that is a diesel-electric boat. From just looking at it, you know it doesn’t have conventional drive systems: you know there is something interesting going on,” says Aaron.

And while ARTEFACT is a future-proof yacht in terms of tech, the same is true of its guest experience. “My advice to an Owner is always to build a yacht he and his family can grow into,” he says. “We are all very conscious of the environment now: to have one yacht over your lifespan, and improve on that, is so much better. The other thing that a lot of people forget is that we are here for memories. If you have a yacht for 20 years and you do it properly, imagine the memories you can get with your friends and family. There is so much invested into it over time that it’s a connection to the enjoyment you get out of life.”

What did the Owner want from his onboard experience? Firstly, a self-sufficent, live-aboard vessel that he could spend long periods of time on with his family. His first trip on board, for example, lasted four

This is awesome!”

months. “We’ve got really good spaces for the Owners to not feel they’re in the same space all the time,” says Aaron. “We mix up what they do so they spread through the boat. They read a lot, spend time together, watch movies, play games. We go fishing, do water sports, go swimming. You can do so many activities that it never gets boring.”

ARTEFACT even has a craft room for the Owner’s wife, complete with sewing machines and 3D printers. “They spend a lot of time there,” says Aaron. “It’s nice to have a designated area when you’re living aboard.”

Another element was ultra-quiet cruising, a requirement that impacted not only the propulsion choice but the exterior and interior design too. Even the artistic detailing was chosen for sound dampening, thanks to the work of a specialist sound engineer who used techniques already put in place at the Owner’s home. “It’s very discreet through the vessel, but with all the glass, we have to pay attention to that — there is no reverberation anywhere,” says Aaron. “The Owners can enjoy the guest spaces, reading or being together, knowing that they are not

going to be disturbed even by the noise of footsteps. Even the Owner, who has nice big private homes, says his homes aren’t anywhere near as good as the boat for privacy.”

Those 720 square metres of glass pay off for views of the world outside, too, with far better panoramas through these oversized windows than most vessels. It’s something Aaron also harnesses to keep the Owner experience ever-changing: “We'll arrive somewhere in the morning, and I‘ll find a beautiful place where the sun's shining. The Owner's bathroom on the port side, and his wife’s on the other side, both have full-height glass. So in the morning when I know he is not out of his cabin, I‘ll pull up and sit in that position with the port side facing the spectacular view. And about the time I know he gets to his office, I just turn the boat, on dynamic positioning, to the front so he sees it from there. Then when I know his wife is getting up and will be in the bathroom, I‘ll turn the boat again to capitalise on the view on the starboard side.”

It is just an example of how the imagination of a top Captain and the right vessel can make a guest experience better than they imagined.

As Aaron says: “I think the biggest thing the Owners have learned from the boat is how it keeps giving the experience in different ways. Just when you think it plateaus, we do something slightly different and they go ‘wow, that is really special and really enjoyable’. How they use the boat is still evolving, every day.”

So how did ARTEFACT evolve into what it is now? At the start, says Aaron, it was a blank sheet of paper. “The boat wasn't the boat for a long, long time,” he says. “The Owner and I worked together for 18 months trying to define what we wanted the boat to be. We looked at different designs, from catamarans to high-speed displacement vessels. He was a first-time yacht Owner, so we had to start from the beginning, which was really good because he didn't have any preconceived or restrictive experiences. We had a bit more freedom.” The Owner’s engineering background also made a world of difference. “Engineers come with a different approach — you can talk easily, down to saying ‘don’t put gold taps on’. The Owner was so involved in the research and development, everything through to the propulsion. Even when we did tank testing, he came to the facility. He loves this stuff!”

Once they had found a designer in Gregory C Marshall and developed the concept with him, the next step Aaron suggested was unusual, but proved key to the successful final product: a full-scale walkthrough mock-up, made out of timber and builders’ paper. “We built the whole Owner’s level — you could walk through it for 60 metres. It had all the recesses in the ceiling, we even built the storage, the galley, the service pantries. We mocked up the table size. It allowed the Owner and his family to feel the space and say: ‘yes, this works’ or ‘let’s change this’.” They even walked around drawing in light switches and power outlets. A key added value to this step? Significant cost saving. “People do virtual reality and computerisation, but you don’t get the feel. And it costs about $400,000 to do that: what I did cost $110,000.”

Only after this step did the Owner and Aaron decide the hull size. Unlike most builds, says Aaron: “We didn’t think: this is how big the boat is and this is what we are going to fit into it”. It was worth it.

“After the mock-up exercise, we extended the hull by 5M/16’ and the volume increased by 600 GT.” Aaron and the Owner chose Nobiskrug for its willingness at the time (2014) to challenge convention and its work on naval vessels, electric submarines and other types of vessel.

ARTEFACT’s technology and sustainability credentials are revolutionary. Her advanced DC bus digital power management system was the first to be installed on a yacht, and allows the vessel to fully integrate multiple sources of power from solar cells, variable-speed generators and lithium batteries. The yacht also offers vibration-reducing Azipods.

“Sustainability to me is to minimise ongoing environmental impacts and costs on board hand in hand. A lot of people do environmental initiatives, but they are unrealistic. We took technologies from the commercial industry that are environmentally friendly and make economic sense. We use less fuel because we have a variable DC bus. We slow the RPMs down and only burn what we need. Plus we couple it up to batteries making us more efficient with our load. We run one engine to do everything and it makes a big difference: while most yachts use around 1,200 engine hours on a Transatlantic crossing, we use just 400. You can design a boat to be more efficient, not just for the environment but for the downtime and the maintenance periods.”

Being armed at the start with all this research, both from Aaron and the Owner and from the shipyard, meant that by the end of it, total change orders were just 1.1% (compared to 30% normally). “Something that happened with this boat is it shows it can be done really well. You do wonder why the rest of the industry is stunted in what we have the privilege of trying to achieve.”

What’s ahead for this truly unique yacht? Adventures in Galapagos, Panama, Costa Rica, Alaska, Fiji and New Zealand beckon — and the future looks extraordinary.

Together, Venice, Croatia and Montenegro form a sailor’s paradise triptych. Built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, Venice’s mosaic-lined canals loop around Renaissance and Gothic architecture, where golden sunsets glow over red-roofed buildings. Dine on oysters and Champagne at Enoiteca Mascareta serenaded by the city’s baroque soundtrack. Take in the historic opera house, coveted artworks at Grassi Palazzo, and lose yourself on the Bridge of Sighs. Then set sail for Croatia’s cluster of 1,000 stylish isles.

Find revelry along the cobblestone paths of Brač. Dive at Blue Grotto on Biševo Island, before landing on Stiniva Cove, a white-pebble beach on the island of Vis. Miles of vineyards and olive groves line Croatia’s rugged hillsides that slope towards the city of Split. Under the vaulted stone ceilings at Enoteka Terra, sample fresh sea bass blanketed in truffle sauce. Adjacent, the Bay of Kotor is Montenegro’s jewel in the crown, a UNESCO world heritage site nestled on the cusp of its striking cruising grounds.

“In Venice, head to the island of Mazzorbo, connected by a bridge to Burano. It is home to the beautiful walled vineyard of Venissa, where you can find the unique Dorona di Venezia wine variety. Found nowhere else in the world, only 3,500 bottles are produced each year. It’s a lovely area to stroll around and relax. There are also famous vegetable gardens here, looked after by nine pensioners who grow their famous ‘castraure’ (artichokes) of Mazzorbo. Enjoy these locally freshly grown vegetables with a bottle at the Michelin-starred Venissa Restaurant or the more casual Osteria Contemporanea.“ WHEN TO GO May to October

Meaningful mythology

Offering historical adventures, warm waters and platters of sun-dried octopi at every turn, Greece’s rugged islands provide a sun-baked, island-hopping journey to remember.

Savour the flavour of tantalising mezze dishes in Greece’s island tavernas, from Allou Yialou in Syros to Botargo in Santorini. On diminutive Antipaxos, a yachting favourite in the Ionian Sea,

the cool blue waters provide some of the best snorkelling around. Curl up in seclusion on Vrika beach. Travel by mule through the 18 th century harbour village on the car-free island of Hydra, before hiking to the soaring peak of Mount Eros to enjoy exceptional views over the islands. From the Cyclades to the Ionian, to the coveted Saronic Gulf, ancient ruins abound across hundreds of scattered isles.

On the mainland, Greek mythology seeps into the terroir along the longest coastline in Europe. Here, white-washed buildings and turquoise church domes are framed by mountains, forests and lakes. Enjoy midnight views of the floodlit Acropolis from Athens’ plentiful rooftop bars, with a glass of ouzo in hand.

“Greece offers a plethora of islands rich in culture and beauty. My favourite area is the Saronic Gulf. Set sail from Naplion and after a 20-minute cruise you will find a little-known bay called Argolis where you can enjoy swimming, watersports and a lovely lunch served by the crew on the aft deck. In Greece, many yachts can tie to the rocks instead of anchoring, giving more opportunities to stay in secluded bays. With time to freshen up whilst underway, you will arrive in the small but bustling port of Hydra, in time for some late afternoon shopping followed by a donkey ride to the Sunset Restaurant for cocktails. Enjoy them while you watch the mesmerising sunset as dolphins frolic in the calm waters.“

TURKEY & GREECE TURKEY & THE DODECANESE ISLANDS Mindful mythology

Ancient castles, quiet fishing villages and vast mountainous terrain define the Greek Dodecanese Islands, paired with Turkey’s exhilarating mainland.

Twelve verdant landmasses of irreverent beauty, the Greek Dodecanese Islands are scattered along Turkey’s coastline. The two countries present an interlaced cultural itinerary of Greek mythology and Turkish artisanal craft. Drop anchor at Symi harbour, a secluded fishing village in Livadia that delivers Amalfi-style tumble-down houses, many chic boutiques and bustling tavernas framed by a horse-shoe-shaped port. Tilos, favoured for its off-the-beaten track allure, Khalki, peppered with traditional windmills, and sleepy Nisyros, with its active volcano and hydrothermal craters, stand apart in offering, yet equal in appeal.

Nestled in the heart of the Dodecanese’s black sand and pebble beaches sits Bodrum,

the beating heart of Turkey’s shipbuilding empire. Located on the mainland at the edge of the Aegean, the twin-bay city stands guard over medieval fortresses, wrapped in a pinescented sea breeze. Indulge in an authentic Hammam at the Kempinski Hotel. Sail the Gulf of Gokova and snorkel the clear waters around Cleopatra‘s Island for an ethereal yachting itinerary.

OXANA VERGNE, CHARTER BROKER, MONACO

“Off the beaten track a short drive from Bodrum, Karnas Vineyards is a beautiful tranquil spot, ideal for a lunch or a romantic dinner in complete serenity, at one with nature. It’s also a boutique winery, where the owning family use traditional methods to make delicious and award-winning wine. After dining, wander the vineyard’s olive orchard and farm.“

Their team can locate a pod of thousands of spinner dolphins, put you in the water with a Seabob and send someone to film alongside with a GoPro. I would also recommend Pavones for great surfing.“

MYSTERY IN THE TROPICS

INDIAN

SEYCHELLES Islands of plenty

Remote and largely untouched, the Seychelles offer desert island dreams made up of exotic fruits, isolated beaches and majestic prehistoric beasts.

Located in the Indian Ocean, with Kenya to the west and Madagascar to the south , the Seychelles’ 115-island archipelago is an aquanaut’s heaven. Here, wildlife-rich isles remain wild and untamed. On Praslin Island, where the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve sprawls across 19.5-hectares of ancient forest, listen out for the high-pitched whistle of the elusive black parrot. On laidback La Digue, feast on octopus coconut curry at historic plantation L’Union Estate, one of the Seychelles’ oldest examples of French colonial architecture.

Snorkel with butterflyfish and surgeonfish in the coral reef off Grande Soeur, before heading to neighbouring Curieuse to meet the famed Aldabra Tortoise. Drop anchor at Cousine, a sanctuary for birds and a breeding ground for hawksbill turtles, then set sail for the private island of Félicité and exile yourself to paradise at the Six Senses Zil Pasyon beach resort.

TOVE JOHNSON, CHARTER BROKER, MONACO “A visit to the national park on Curieuse Island with more than 300 giant tortoises is well worth it. One of the few places on earth where the Aldabra tortoises roam wild on the island, you will see everything from baby hatchlings to old-timers up to 120 years old. A walk to the other side of the island, through mangroves and rain forest, will take you to yet another stunning beach.“

INDIAN OCEAN MALDIVES Atoll escape

With barefoot luxury, overwater villas and warm, shallow waters awash with glowing plankton, the Maldives dazzles with its elegant simplicity.

The Maldives is where turquoise lagoons sprawl for miles, long sandbars part the waves, and tall palm trees sway in the gentle ocean breeze. Only 200 of the 1,200 coral islands are inhabited, but each one is as diverse as the next. Snorkel gin-clear waters throughout the Baa Atoll, home to over 600 species of exotic fish and the Robinson Crusoe-style luxury hideaway

of Soneva Fushi. Immerse yourself in an aquarium cocoon eight metres below the sea at Huvafen Fushi — the world’s only underwater spa.

Diving enthusiasts gather at Shaviyani Atoll, the largest coral atoll structure found anywhere on earth. While Mudhdhoo Island is where the magic happens, its beaches lit up at night by lustrous bioluminescent displays. When the urge for activity strikes, tee off on the nine-hole golf course on the private island of Velaa, designed by Jose Maria Olazabal.

★ FRASER ‘ S INSIDER TIPS

ANASTASIA LEGRAND, CHARTER BROKER, MONACO ”Manta Point is an incredible dive site for seeing manta rays gather around a large coral. It’s easy to access and is fine for beginners, too. Ithaa Undersea restaurant at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is an absolute must-see, quite well-known but an extremely cool experience where you can you dine five metres below the ocean’s surface, surrounded by colourful sea life. And for nature at its most extraordinary, the bioluminescent beach at Mudhdhoo which glows by night is truly spectacular.”

THAILAND & LANGKAWI Golden retreat

Himalayan cherry blossom meets wild jungle foliage and culinary flare across Thailand and Malaysia’s diverse and scenic landscape.

From the southerly Butang Island group on the west coast to the limestone karst coast of Krabi in the south, Thailand — the world’s largest archipelago — is awash with clandestine coves and jungle-trekking adventure. Here is where fresh produce markets float on water, entire villages are built on stilts and vibrant Buddhist temples pepper the flourishing landscape.

Enjoy Phuket’s golden sunsets on Anantara’s Tree House veranda. Cruise on a colourful longtail boat through the cliff-edged waters of the Phi Phi Islands. To escape the beaten track, head up the coast to the virgin rainforest-covered Similan Islands, home to the Moken sea nomads. Or sail south to Langkawi — Malaysia’s ‘Jewel of Kedah’ — to splash in Telaga Tujuh’s dazzling waterfalls or visit Penang’s historic capital, Georgetown.

LAURA VERBRUGGE, CHARTER BROKER, HONG KONG

”Adventurous types can try low-level ‘bouldering’ along the headlands of Krabi. The Koh Racha islands, with white sand beaches, have some of Phang Nga Bay’s clearest waters and top dive sites. There is also great snorkelling and diving around Koh Rok, and several miles south-west is a spectacular dive site of 70M (230’) depth. Watch the sun setting from the headland above Nai Harn Bay with its famed elephant shrine. The Emerald Cave at Koh Muk is only accessible by swimming from your yacht — it’s worth it for its shimmering waters of jewel-like green.” WHEN TO GO November to April

Komodo, Bali and Raja Ampat form a tantalising yachting trio at the very heart of Indonesia’s disparate canopy.

Yachting is the gateway to exploration throughout Indonesia’s 17,000 islands. Bathe in Komodo’s volcanic crater lakes. Cruise alongside majestic Bugis pinisi. Swim in the sapphire lakes of Danau Toba or alongside dolphins in Raja Ampat’s Damier Strait.

In the Blue Water Mangroves west of Misool, paddle by kayak through the ancient waterways paved with multicoloured corals that cling to their submerged roots.

Cruise The Passage in the Raja Ampat archipelago, where you will encounter a micro habitat filled with sea creatures from pygmy seahorses in vibrant yellow, pink and orange, plus nudibranches and gorognians. Dive down to the sandy sea bed in Dampier and wait for the awe-inspiring sight of giant manta rays to pass through the ocean sunrays overhead.

On the car-free Gili Islands, sea turtles swim at Turtle Point and sunken ships patiently wait to be discovered at Wreck Point. No visit to

Indonesia is complete without sighting a dragon, but Komodo’s neighbouring island of Rinca provides a more private, intimate setting.

★ FRASER S INSIDER TIPS

LAURA VERBRUGGE, CHARTER BROKER, HONG KONG

”Look for the famous purple bird of paradise found in Waigeo. Anchor off Satonda Island and take the yacht’s paddle boards around its stunning saltwater lake, formed by a sunken crater when Mount Tambora erupted 10,000 years ago, and surrounded by butterfly-filled wishing trees — hang your own wish on a branch. A hike among the legendary dragons at Rinca Island is best finished off with a dip and snorkel session off the pink sands at Pink Beach.”

MELANIE BURKE, CHARTER BROKER

Launched in 2020 and with minimal charter use since, BABA’S is one of the first yachts to be available in Costa Rica since it opened for charter last year. During the 2022 and 2023 winter seasons, enjoy the extraordinary wildlife, natural phenomena and unique experiences of Costa Rica on board a yacht that has it all.

Enjoy the views of Costa Rica, or the Mediterranean in summer, from the sundeck, with a unique hot tub featuring a waterfall edge overflowing into a wading pool. Sip signature cocktails at the bar and dine on barbecues of freshly caught seafood.

Prefer spending your days at sea level? Head down to the beach club, boasting a second hot tub (found on only a small number of yachts worldwide), as well as gym equipment for open-air workouts, a steam room/sauna and a bar. A few steps away, the swim platform offers easy access to the water and toys (a floating extension creates an even bigger toy space), plus shaded sunloungers.

BABA’S boasts a fantastic toy collection, including the best equipped 12.8M/42' Hydra-Sport towable available, perfect for extreme sport and game fishing experiences with the yacht’s highly experienced on-crew fishing experts. The crew can instruct on all the water toys on board, including jet-skis, Seabobs and foil boards.

BABA’S accommodates 12 guests in a main-deck full-beam Master suite, bridge-deck VIP and four king guest suites on the lower deck. A children’s games room keeps younger guests entertained. The yacht is made accessible for guests of all ages and abilities thanks to an elevator that connects all decks.

2 guest tenders, including a 12.8M (42’) Hydra Sport tender in Costa Rica, jet-skis, Seabobs, inflatable kayaks, wake boards, paddle boards, kneeboard, foil boards, water-skis, snorkelling gear, inflatables and beach toys.

BEATRIX

One of the newest yachts available for charter worldwide, 2021-launched K2 is the stand-out yacht in the popular 50M (164’) size range, exceeding expectations on every deck.

K2
We had a wonderful trip. We absolutely loved K2 and the Captain and chief stew were incredibly good to work with. We will almost certainly book again in the future!” K2 CHARTER CLIENT 148 / 149 49.9M (163‘09“) Columbus Yachts 2021 18 knots/22 knots ACCOMMODATION 11 guests/5 staterooms 11 crew FOR CHARTER DESTINATIONS & RATES PER WEEK (HIGH/LOW) SUMMER West Mediterranean €290,000/€270,000 WINTER West Mediterranean €290,000/€270,000 WATCH VIDEO

K2’s sleek and sophisticated low profile and long, smooth lines encase stunning interiors by Luca Dini, with full-height windows filling her contemporary, stylish spaces with light. A fast option with a top speed of 22 knots, she is suitable for shallow waters and quiet during navigation.

The designer himself sums up the yacht as a blend of harmony and functionality. “It is a yacht that reflects the personality but also the style and approach to life of its Owner: elegant, refined, attentive, demanding, but also a traveller, sporty and open-minded,” he said shortly after her 2021 launch.

On deck are a host of options. The beach club with sunloungers is ideal for relaxation, and a few steps away, an articulated platform with steps lowers swimmers and kayakers into the ocean. The upper foredeck is a private lounge, with large spa pool, and astern is a dining table for 12 guests. On the main deck is a further lounge area with dedicated bar.

One of K2’s most significant highlights is her full-sized, fully equipped gym. Situated on the main deck, highly unusual in this size of vessel, the gym is equipped with a treadmill, Arc trainer and more of the latest workout gear, enabling fitness sessions at any time during your charter. K2 also boasts an upper deck lounge that is ideal for movie nights. Five suites, each of them designed to maximise space, accommodate 11 guests. The Master suite, forward on the main deck, is full-beam, with a lounge area, marble bathroom and wooden bathtub.

For fun on the water, enjoy K2’s collection of new water toys, including a jet-ski, Seabobs, a jetboard and rotating inflatable tube for up to 6 people. Every charter guest on board K2 benefits from the care and attention of a seven-star crew, led by a highly experienced Captain with extensive knowledge of the vessel.

The largest motor yacht ever built in Asia, ILLUSION PLUS is a head-turning vessel and a completely unique opportunity in her size range. An impressive collaboration of Dutch naval architecture by Azure, exteriors by Rainsford Saunders and interiors by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, ILLUSION PLUS offers unlimited long-range cruising possibilities.

Combining striking lines with a vertical bow design, her 5,000NM range and Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion system mean she is ready to take a new Owner on endless adventures. A touch-and-go helipad offers enhanced exploration opportunities and fast transport to and from the yacht. For exploration on the ocean, her lower deck garage stores three tenders to suit any environment in which you wish to adventure. The impressive exterior deck spaces on ILLUSION PLUS include two hot tub pools and spacious socialising areas.

Set over a volume of 3,642GT, her six-deck interior, designed by Sinot, is highly sophisticated. On the main deck, enjoy a stunning

double-height atrium, which adds an unparalleled sense of space, enhanced by the yacht’s 15.3M (50‘) beam. Modern and contemporary in style, with intelligent use of space throughout, top interior features include a gym, a cinema-capable lounge, a dedicated spa with a beauty salon and numerous luxury dining areas.

An elevator serves four of her decks for ease of movement around the yacht. Accommodation is in eight spacious staterooms for 16 guests, including a stunning full-beam Master suite spanning 80 square metres (861 square feet) and offering 180-degree panoramic views.

Presented in perfect condition, ILLUSION PLUS is quite simply a must-see in this size range.

,650 EUROS (90 MILLION USD) WORTH OF CHARTERS BOOKED BY FRASER BROKERS IN 2021

With over 3,650 days of charter booked by Fraser alone in 2021 — an increase of 61% on 2020, two things are clear. Firstly, that the joys and benefits of time on a yacht, with loved ones, in destinations worldwide, are being enjoyed more than ever before. And secondly, that as a Charterer, you can trust Fraser to create unforgettable experiences on board that you will treasure for ever. Each Charterer choosing Fraser knows that they will enjoy all the benefits a successful charter offers and often see their expectations exceeded, thanks to our team of 22 Brokers worldwide — including no less than 4 of the last 10 winners of the IYBA Charter Professional of the Year award.

INSIGHT THAT BENEFITS YOU

The unparalleled knowledge and insight that each Fraser Broker has built over an average of 14 years in the role adds value to any charter experience. Each Broker boasts an encyclopaedic knowledge of destinations around the world, as well as insight into not only the over 3,000 yachts publicly available for charter, but also those not listed, known about only through worldwide networks.

Your Broker uses this knowledge, combined with insight built from years, and in many cases decades, of experience, to create the perfect charter for each client. Creating a successful yacht selection is a finely-honed skill that only the best Brokers possess. Many factors are taken into account, all based around you, how you want to enjoy your experience and what you would like to do and see during your time on charter. Yacht selection is a finely honed art requiring skilled expertise: Brokers think far beyond yacht features and available dates, to crew, onboard culture and the true USPs of individual yachts, based on personal experience and knowledge. Visiting and experiencing the yachts, amenities and service means that Brokers get to know them well, so they can choose those with crews that they know you and your guests will appreciate, and toys they know you will enjoy, all in the right destination and of course available when you want to go.

ADDED EXTRAS

Expecting the unexpected in a positive way is also an exciting part of charter. Many clients have enjoyed the surprise experiences that Fraser Brokers create on top of the itinerary you know about, working alongside the Captain and local contacts. From treasure hunts on secret beaches to special firework displays, the added value you win with Fraser may reveal itself in ways you never even imagined. Fraser Brokers also know that clients appreciate unique opportunities, perfect last-minute offers, beneficial rates and added extras, and are experts in securing them for their clients whenever possible. Negotiation is a key tool in any Fraser Broker’s toolkit, and one that clients like you can significantly benefit from.

PROTECTING YOUR INTERESTS

Today more than ever before, when we have lived through constantly changing travel restrictions, we know how important it is that you feel protected from the first step of your charter booking experience. When it comes to contracts, the interests of every client are top priority. Working alongside a Fraser Broker means you can trust yours are being looked after. Our Brokers are highly knowledgeable of the contracts we use, each pored over to ensure every client is protected. We can also advise on VAT regulations, and behind your Broker is a large support team, including financial and legal experts, to assist when needed.

Your Broker is by your side throughout the process, from first contact until you step off board — and far beyond, as most clients start thinking about their next charter as soon as they dock! From concierge support to being at the end of a phone day and night while you are on board, your Broker is there behind the scenes, working alongside your Captain and crew to ensure you always have everything you might need to make your experience one you can’t wait to repeat.

What is the first thing you look for when you begin your journey to ownership? A trusted Broker, backed by a brokerage house with the very highest levels of professional expertise, extensive market knowledge and, perhaps most importantly, a solid and proven track record in uncovering the perfect yacht for every Buyer, backed by the expertise, networks and guidance to help secure it.

Not only is Fraser the longest serving full-service brokerage house in the world today, celebrating 75 years in 2022: it is the only one to rank top for yacht sales performance in every single size range (source: Superyacht Buyer Report).

Exactly what does your Fraser Broker do for you, and how do you benefit by choosing Fraser?

ACTIVE LISTENING

Fraser Brokers have connected Buyers to over €3.7 billion ($4.2 billion) worth of yachts in the past 5 years. How do we start? The first step is to listen very carefully to what sort of boat you are looking for. Where do you want to enjoy it? How do you want to use it and with who? Once we have established what you are looking for and your budget, the magic begins.

A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

Using decades of experience — over 24 years on average for each Broker — your Broker gets you on board yachts on (and off) the market that they believe best match your operational needs and the yachting experience you are looking for. Behind the scenes is an entire support team, including a full-time Central Intelligence Department (CID), who know before anyone else when a yacht comes to market, giving our Brokers — and their clients — access to yachts before they are publicly for sale.

INSIDE KNOWLEDGE ON ANY YACHT

We value long relationships. That means you can always expect honest and informed advice from a partner that prioritises you at all times. Using laser-sharp market knowledge, your Broker will guide you on the history and maintenance of the yachts you are interested in. They will show you the benefits of owning them, but also point out any weak points or points to watch out for, so you do not end up with unexpected surprises going forward.

With New Construction orders more than doubling on the average of the last 3 years in 2021, 10 new build projects sold by Fraser last year and refit projects continuing to grow, the demand for trusted Project Management has never been stronger. Visionary Owners all over the world are currently choosing Fraser to build over 600 metres (1,968’) of yachts, ranging from 35M-100M+ (114’-328’+). At Fraser, not only do we work with Owners to build the yachts of their dreams, but in many cases, yachts that are so ahead of the game they go on to win multiple awards.

When considering a new-build project on any scale, from a fully custom or semi-custom yacht build to a refit, the real magic happens when you work with a team that not only shares your vision, but comes with a track record in successfully delivering projects like yours, on time, on budget, and most importantly, to your expectations.

THE EXPERIENCE THAT MATTERS

Fraser has been involved in the construction and refit of some of the largest and most complex yachts ever launched, including in recent years the extraordinary 77M (252’) SeaXplorer LA DATCHA and the 68M (222’) Amels masterpiece AURORA BOREALIS (now renamed NENINKA). Headed up by a Technical Manager with over 20 years of Project Management experience, our expert team brings to every project we manage unrivalled expertise and an extensive network of designers, shipyards, engineering specialists and contractors, ensuring not only the safe construction or refit of your yacht but also its delivery to your specifications and within the timescale and budget that you expect.

As first steps, we define your vision as Owner and provide a prefiltered selection of designers and shipyards who we know have the capability to deliver your unique project. Once a build team is agreed, we negotiate firmly on your behalf to ensure you benefit from the most preferential terms and conditions — something we continue doing throughout the build, whenever needed. Know that from Day One of your project, your Project Manager’s key role is to represent your interests at the shipyard. Fraser has experience with all major shipyards and designers including Feadship, Amels, Lürssen, Benetti, Tim Heywood and Winch Design.

UNMATCHED TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW

Our job is to understand the expectations of you as Owner, turn them in to technical facts, bring these facts to the shipyard, and ensure that at every step, your interests remain the priority during the build. Huge volumes of information must be digested and many choices need to be made that keep your project on track and on vision. Working solely on your behalf from concept to delivery, your Project Manager does everything from making sure the wording in every document is technically solid to constantly collaborating with you, your representatives and Captain, the designer and the shipyard, and the suppliers. Our goal, always, is ensuring that the results eventually delivered are beyond your expectations, by keeping everything effectively coordinated.

Naturally, we frequently update you (or a designated representative) on progress. Some Owners choose to make frequent visits to the shipyards, which we can help coordinate. Whether you visit the build site or not, you or your representative will be regularly kept

abreast of any issues raised and solutions found. Fraser’s specialist bespoke reporting software even offers a live real-time progress feed available 24/7 and our graphical interface offers visual representation of development. We arrange monthly face-to-face meetings with your representative and our team of course remains contactable at all times.

A BESPOKE PACKAGE FOR EVERY OWNER

Every project is unique, just as every Owner is unique. That is why Fraser’s Project Management services can be customised for your project. Simply choose the bespoke package that you need from our range of services, which include shipyard/designer selection, contract and specification review, construction and refit project management, completion and delivery, warranty management and budget control. Of course, as a full-service provider, Fraser’s role covers the elements you may not have thought about, from checking regulatory compliance and finalising operational procedures to hiring crew and managing the warranty period.

Now for the best part: taking delivery and stepping on board your brand-new or updated vessel for a whole new experience.

Are you one of the record 1,000 Owners who secured a new yacht in 2021? Or are you looking to upgrade crew on your existing yacht to ensure you (and those you charter to) continue to enjoy the optimum yachting experience each time you step on board? The Crew Network (TCN) knows the importance of a well-oiled crew to your onboard experience — and we know just how to create one.

30 YEARS OF PERFECTING OUR RECRUITMENT SKILLS

Successful crew placement is a delicate art that requires specialist skills. TCN was established in 1989 and is today the world’s longest serving professional and fully MLC compliant crew recruitment and placement agency. Decades of expertise and skill-honing mean we know that crew members need to work in perfect harmony together to ensure every onboard experience yields the results you want. While our worldwide teams are, of course, experts in efficiently finding the enhanced skillsets that you are looking for on your crew today, from drone videographers to PADI diving instructors to Pilates teachers to nutrition advisors, we know that the best crews are more than their qualifications. We look beyond crew and focus on the entire onboard experience, in the knowledge that its success depends on the perfect balance of the right yacht, run by the right crew.

TEAMS BUILT TO LAST

From Deckhands to Master Mariners, we are proud to have filled over 10,000 positions across all departments on vessels from 24M (79’) to over 216M (709’). TCN has helped launch the careers of thousands of yacht crew, many at the top of their game today, and helped Owners and Captains establish solid and reliable onboard teams who work well together and, more importantly, stay together. The TCN team’s wide-ranging experience across various fields including yachting, human resources and business provides a wealth of knowledge and an outstanding combined network within the industry.

MORE TIME, LESS CHURN

While so many other agencies simply forward CVs to Owners and Captains, we personally get to know each of our candidates via an in-depth screening and interview process. The Owners and Captains we work with receive a carefully filtered selection containing only those candidates pre-approved by our experts, saving them significant time and effort.

Just as importantly, we get to know each of our yachts and the existing crews on board before any placement is made. Focussing on both the overall profiles of candidates, their personalities, career expectations and goals and the overall dynamic of the yacht‘s existing crew, we can reduce crew churn, and its unsettling consequences to yacht operations and Owner enjoyment. Our goal: crew that last, for the benefit of the Owner.

A 360° APPROACH

From our offices in the USA, France, Italy and Spain, our teams apply the same comprehensive approach with the same rigour that put TCN on the map over 30 years ago. Our recently redesigned website enables Owners and clients to easily register the position they are seeking, information which is then utilised by our specialist consultants to put together a shortlist of candidates from our constantly updated database. Naturally, any yacht in Fraser’s management fleet will benefi t from preferred placement fees. We place a strong emphasis on building trusted, long-term relationships with our clients, many of whom have worked with our individual consultants for more than 15 years.

WHY SELL WITH FRASER

MORE OWNERS CLOSE SALES OF THEIR YACHTS WITH FRASER THAN ANY OTHER PROVIDER WORLDWIDE. THIS IS WHY...

In 2021, more Owners sold their yachts through Fraser than any other provider. In a record year, Fraser Brokers sold a total of 1.5 billion EUR (1.7 billion USD) worth of yachts.

In fact, over 50% of the Central Agency Sales fleet we represented for Sellers last year had sold by the end of December. And in almost 60% of those sales, the eventual Buyer was also brought by Fraser.

But this level of performance is not limited to 2021. Over the last 13 years, Fraser has successfully closed more transactions than any other Brokerage House in the world — 40% more than the secondplace provider.

Fraser Sales Brokers, each with an average of 24 years’ experience, use an extensive in-house database of qualified Buyers built over 75 years, to ensure that Fraser ranks top for sales performance in every single size range of yacht, from 24M/79’-90M+/295’+, as independently verified by the Superyacht Buyer Report.

So how does Fraser secure those results on your behalf? Our team of over 40 Brokers worldwide, and Marketing Specialists on both sides of the Atlantic, leverage three distinct types of Buyer for our Marketing Strategy: our own Buyer database, Buyers working with 3rd-party Brokers, and potential Buyers currently not in any database.

Here is just a snapshot of the approach we take to getting your yacht seen, wanted and sold.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR YACHT’S STRENGTHS AND USPs

Fraser Brokers have closed well over 2,000 transactions worldwide in their careers. Our Brokers know yachts, know what Buyers want, and know exactly how to identify, and promote, the unique strengths and opportunities your yacht offers to them. From her key benefits and history to her onboard experience, we start by creating a full profile to use in our storytelling and promotion.

PINPOINT POSITIONING

How, where, and when your yacht hits the market makes a lasting impression on potential Buyers and requires careful thought from experienced professionals. Using their own to-the-minute market knowledge and working with Fraser’s dedicated full-time Market Intelligence team, your Broker will provide a snapshot of comparable yachts both placed on the market and recently sold. This enables us to perfectly position your yacht to achieve your selling goals.

I have bought and sold many yachts in my time. My Fraser Broker really went the extra mile to secure a sale at a price that I was happy with in the timescale I specified. His extensive network of worldwide Buyers, market knowledge and level of yachting expertise is something I have not seen in any other Broker.”

WHERE IN THE WORLD?

The ‘shop windows’ for large yachts are the French Riviera and Fort Lauderdale: more yachts are sold in these locations than in all others combined. Your Broker will advise on the best location to berth your yacht during the sales process, one which will bring on board the Buyer profile you are looking for.

NEGOTIATING ON YOUR BEHALF

Once a price is on the table, your Fraser Broker uses decades of experience to negotiate the best price for you. Unparalleled yacht knowledge means we know exactly what final price range you should be expecting, and we always keep you fully informed and briefed. Only when you are happy with the price will the deal be closed.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED & PROTECTED

Of course, as a Seller you will receive regular, transparent status reports and, once a Buyer is found and the price agreed, all the necessary processes are coordinated on your behalf to ensure a swift and harmonious completion. Fraser’s in-house team includes legal and financial experts who ensure your interests remain fully protected at all times.

A LONG-LASTING RELATIONSHIP

What are your plans to enjoy yachting after you sell? Whether you are looking to charter or to buy or build bigger, Fraser can help. And if you are looking for a trusted manager or new crew for your next yacht, we have you covered.

RESULTSDRIVEN MARKETING

THE REAL SECRETS TO GETTING YOUR YACHT SEEN — AND WANTED — BY THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Whether you want your yacht, and its USPs, to reach the right Buyer or motivated Charterers, the brokerage house you choose needs to have the know-how, skills and connections to get it seen by the people you are targeting.

To ensure your yacht is not only seen, but wanted by driven Buyers, or Charterers, with a genuine and active interest in a yacht like yours, takes a specific expertise from a brokerage house that knows the right questions to ask. What are your yacht’s most important selling points? Who is most likely to want to buy or charter it? And how do we reach them?

Marketing your yacht with Fraser for charter or sale means you can be reassured that these questions are front of mind in every action we take to connect your yacht with the people who can make the difference.

WHAT UNIQUE BENEFITS WILL A NEW OWNER OR CHARTERER GAIN FROM YOUR YACHT?

That is the first question our global marketing team asks. A deepdive into the yacht, which goes beyond its features to its story, history and onboard culture, enables laser-focussed targeting to the market that matters. Speaking with the Captain and crew and coming on board when possible, we learn what Owners and guests love about the onboard experience, and we bring it alive again in our marketing actions and storytelling.

YACHT MARKETING

COLLATERAL THAT MAKES THE IMPRESSION

First impressions count — more than ever in today’s digital world where attention spans are, on average, 7 seconds. Our in-house team and dedicated creative specialists create a portfolio of marketing collateral — personalised content that showcases the very best of your yacht. While high-quality imagery is key, to bring the experience alive, we organise video footage of yachts and in-depth onboard walkthroughs led by the Captain or Broker shot by professional videographers. Owners have full access to the world of professional photographers and videographers in the Fraser portfolio for the creation of outstanding videos and photoshoots that bring their yacht to life for potential Buyers and Charterers.

STRATEGY IS EVERYTHING

Using optimised collateral and the yacht’s story and USPs, our team of Yacht Marketing Strategists create a multi-platform

strategy, with content maximised for the channels that our analytics show will achieve the best results and reach for your yacht. Because no matter how enticing the content, marketing is meaningless unless it is seen by people who have both the motivation and means to buy or charter a yacht like yours. Our Yacht Marketing team works with your Sales Broker or Charter Manager and the wider team to determine the clients your yacht is most likely to attract. This determines which platforms we use, our messaging and your yacht’s personalised Marketing Strategy. For full details on the bespoke 3-tier Marketing Strategy that will be applied to ensure your yacht reaches the right Buyer or Charterer, see the box opposite.

WHAT WORKS AND WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE?

The difference with Fraser: we constantly analyse what is working and what is not. Ongoing reviews of metrics from all campaigns and Fraser website activity determine what we need to improve and replace. Analysis is shared with you via regular Owner Reports so you can keep track of progress.

GREEN EXPERIENCE

IF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE KEEN TO MAKE YOUR YACHTING EXPERIENCE AS SUSTAINABLE AS POSSIBLE, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THAT’S WHY FRASER, THE LONG-TIME LEADER IN SUSTAINABILITY IN YACHTING, CREATED A DEDICATED GREEN PLEDGE — FUTURE.

This page, Bottlenose dolphins, Bahamas

At Fraser we don’t ask: ‘why go green?’ we ask: ‘why wouldn’t we?’

For many years, Fraser has been committed to protecting and preserving the environment that our business, and our industry as a whole, celebrates and promotes through the rewards of luxury yachting. But today, more than ever, we realise that the actions of every one of us will shape what the future looks like for generations to come. That is why, two years ago, we went a step further, by launching Fraser’s Green Pledge, FUTURE.

FUTURE (Fraser Unites To Universally Respect the Environment) is symbolised by its logo: an hourglass with a fresh young sapling growing from within. It reminds us all that time is running out to take responsibility for our actions and the potentially devastating effects they can have on our fragile environment.

Through FUTURE, Fraser is taking responsibility, in every area possible, to drive and encourage actions and thinking that can help protect and preserve our natural world. And to reduce our footprint and that of our clients, partners, and staff not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.

Through a comprehensive series of ongoing actions, both in-house and across our fleet, we are enhancing our goals for a cleaner and more sustainable approach to our work, our yachting experiences and our lives. In addition to making every aspect of our workplaces as green as possible by introducing everything from green electricity to zero single-use plastic and sustainable gifting, we work closely with yacht Owners across our managed and charter managed fleets to implement impact-reducing systems on board their yachts.

Fraser was also the first yachting company to sign Monaco’s National Energy Transition Pact, and we are happy to spearhead the Eyesea initiative, of which CEO Raphael Sauleau is Deputy Chair. Eyesea works with Owners, Charterers and crew to map global pollution and maritime hazards through geotagging, enabling clean-up groups, researchers and local authorities to find solutions. Our CORAL Owners’ initiative supports reef restoration in alignment with charity Coral Guardian. And our sales fleet includes some of the greenest adventure vessels ever conceived, including hydrogen-powered AQUON ONE (pg 223) and 95% recyclable YERSIN (pg 204).

SUSTAINABILITY 274 / 275
For almost everyone who enjoys quality time at sea, the reward of sustainability is being part of nature. You escape from the material and see the world from a whole new perspective. We are playing our part in making sure that reward remains available for our children.”
SAULEAU, CEO, FRASER
