ABOUT THE PJHL

The Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL), formerly Pacific International Junior Hockey League, (PIJHL) until 2012 is a Canadian Junior Ice Hockey League that operates in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and is sanctioned by Hockey Canada. Although the PJHL has included American teams in the past, the league's thirteen franchises all currently reside in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley

Several National Hockey League stars began their junior hockey careers in the PJHL, but the main focus of the league is player development and education with strong ties to the local hockey community The PJHL Championship is awarded annually to the league playoff champion and the winner moves on to compete against the champions of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League and the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League for the British Columbia Provincial Junior “A” Title

The PJHL continually strives to be a leader in Junior A-based hockey in North America The objective of the league is to provide a competitive environment for young athletes who share similar values of Sportsmanship, Citizenship, Academic Excellence and Hockey Development

SPEED AND SKILL

With fighting penalties significantly declining year after year, the PJHL is already in the process of moving away from that type of hockey and instead emphasizing speed, skill and scoring.

PLAYER SAFETY

The PJHL will also continue to explore ways to improve player safety through initiatives at the league level.

EDUCATION

With some PJHL players still enrolled in high school and others going on to college, education has always been an important subject for the PJHL as we work with many NCAA Scouts, WHL and U-Sports Teams

COMMUNITY

Whether it’s a team visit to a school or hospital or a food drive around the holidays, PJHL players and teams are an important part of their communities. Many teams are also supported by local businesses, so it has always been a two-way street. Community involvement will continue to be a priority for the league and teams.

THE CHILLIWACK JETS

The Chilliwack Jets Hockey Team is where lifetime champions are developed As Chilliwack's Second Junior “A” Team, The Jets have created an experience that fosters growth and development in young players who will become tomorrow’s leaders

Through our comprehensive hockey development program, our student-athletes have the opportunity to achieve excellence in sports while building an educational foundation for an academic career in the future.

WHAT WE STAND FOR HISTORY OF OUR PROGRAM

British Columbia is the ‘heartland’ of hockey. A sport that embodies the togetherness of a community and teaches the fundamental values of leadership. Hockey offers a familiar environment for players to cultivate relationships and learn the principles of great sportsmanship that will help them become lifetime champions.

We don’t focus on talent; we focus on developed skills. Through developed skills, our players are better able to understand the importance of having a growth mindset and are better equipped to accept failure as a step forward rather than a step backward. We believe that teaching and modelling authenticity, humility, and accountability produces the heart of a champion in our players. We believe that these are the most important characteristics in leaders both on and off the ice.

The Chilliwack Jets returned to Chilliwack in 2020, but were originally founded back in 1970 and won the league championship in its inaugural season.

Page 7

THE VISION FOR OUR PLAYERS

Chilliwack Jets Athletes will learn one of life’s most important lessons –greatness is only achieved when one learns to adapt and grow from failure.

Once they are able to understand how failure contributes to developed skill, they will be able to recognize their full potential as an athlete, and an individual.

We believe in teaching GRIT.

VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Chilliwack is a city that was built on hard work, determination, and the passion of the community. Proud to call Chilliwack home are the fans that have been loud and passionate for decades in support of all Chilliwack Sports, especially Hockey.

Every year the staff and players spend time within the local community On the ice, we help with Minor Hockey Days, Jr Jets, or programs dedicated to giving kids the opportunity to play hockey with the Little Heroes Program

Our players also volunteer with Minor Hockey Association and jump on the ice with younger groups to help run practice, demo some drills, or get to know the younger athletes in our community. On days when our local community gets hit with a lot of snow, our off-ice training that day will be spent shovelling out driveways and digging out stuck vehicles in need.

Chilliwack Jets players also work with local Elementary schools with a Mentorship and reading program. One afternoon a week, or someone twice a month, our athletes head to the elementary school to sit with the younger grade school students, to read, help with structured play and be a good role model.

COSTS

The Chilliwack Jets hockey program has a rich history of pride and success while still young, our roots are deep within the community. Although we are unable to offer financial assistance to our athletes, we believe we provide an experience that is second to none at our level. We have tremendous fan support, access to the varsity training amenities, and a great facility and team locker room.

The Chilliwack Jets require that each player pay a team fee of $7500 + GST. This fee allows us to provide exceptional value to each and every player. This fee will assist our overall hockey operations budget to ensure that each player indulges the full "Junior A" hockey experience. This fee will assist in team travel, billeting costs, practice ice slots (3 min a week), outer gear, apparel packages, gym membership, team meals, skill instructors, team events and other accessories.

There is also a small league fee to the PJHL of $1300 that includes insurance, BC Hockey Membership, Admin Support for League etc.
