Frankston Waterfront Festival - Main Stage Line Up

SATURDAY 18 JANAURY 2014 11:05am Shoot the Messenger A teenage band founded in Frankston in late 2012, Shoot the Messenger plays pop-punk, alternative rock, punk, hard rock, poprock genres and recently released a demo. They have played in venues such as the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda, the Thornbury Theatre and many more. Shoot the Messenger has three members; Jordan Dearsley (lead vocals, bass), Trent Tucker (guitar, backing vocals) and Lukas Goodchild (drums, backing vocals). The group only plays original material, which they continue to write and perform in front of a rapidly developing fan base.

11:40am Heidi Luckhurst Soulful Blues-vocal influenced by artists such as Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Eva Cassidy, Colbie Cailat, John Lennon and Aretha Franklin. Heidi complements her music with an original flair on covers from musicians and bands as diverse as the Kings of Leon to The Temptations. Born on the Mornington Peninsula and still living here 28 years later Heidi is a true local. Heidi was brought up surrounded by live music, her father working as a recording engineer and bass player around the Mornington Peninsula from the early ‘80s, Brother Ryan known as local performer ‘Lucky, Singer/song-writer guitarist and Uncle Kelvin Blogg who is Heidi’s current accompanying guitarist.

12:15pm Mere Poets The Mere Poets are a Melbourne based band playing original music since 2010. Their songs are written in a variety of styles that revolve around their distinct, carefree sound. They have played many venues around Melbourne and are looking at embarking on a tour. They released their double single 'The Antecedent' in August 2013 with the featured song 'Just for Eternity' available free online. 1:15pm The Fuzzbirds With roots beginning in ‘60s rock and extending through the ‘70s to modern influences, The Fuzzbirds boast a captivating set. The fourpiece group exhibits a blend of vibrant colourful guitars, driving rhythms and audacious vocals to achieve a distinctive and adaptive sound.

Stellarcaster

Stellarcaster has played shows in many venues across Melbourne and The Peninsula, including, Bahas, Beaches, Hickinbotham’s Winery, The Laundry Bar (Carlton), The Reverence (Footscray) and The Espy (St Kilda). Along with their original music, it is likely you will hear The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Arctic Monkeys, You Am I, Cake, Little Richard, Mental As Anything, Mia Dyson, Hoodoo Gurus, Tommy Emmanuel and Julian Lennon.

4:15pm Chris Annable Chris is well known as a musician on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne's South East. Inspired by artists like John Mayer and Tommy Emmanuel, he is a composer, singer, guitarist and arranger. Endorsed by Guitars 'n' Things, Chris' style is a unique blend of classic rock sound with a contemporary feel. His powerful acoustic sound comes from the combination of high quality music gear and creative guitar arrangements. As a song writer, Chris has released many singles and albums available online through iTunes. He is in demand as a session player and writes songs for other artists.

5:15pm Gossamer Pride Since their inception, the Melbourne based quartet’s unique sound has been constantly evading genre. Their cohesive sound (branded New Groove) exhibits hints of jazz, funk, soul and gospel, but further exploration unveils a deep love for Latin flavours and Middle Eastern harmony. Featuring three vocalists and incorporating flute and lapsteel guitar, experimentation is rarely shied away from. As 88.3 Southern FM aptly put it - "Gossamer Pride cannot be pigeon-holed into any musical genre other than 'good'."

Catchy choruses, delectable vocal harmonies, provocative lyrics and an ever changing atmosphere are trademarks of the group’s sound and standouts of their live performances. Coupled with a flair for theatre, an eclectic yet vintage taste in fashion and distinctive visual aesthetic, Gossamer Pride is sure to leave you with an impression, a mood and a state of aural bliss.

6:15pm Brighter at Night Whether it’s due to their ecstatic sound or spasmodic stage presence, Brighter at Night promises to have you jumping ‘like the floor is lava’ at every show. After sharing the stage with acts such as Heroes for Hire, Dream on Dreamer, Hawthorn Heights (USA) and Amity Affliction, Brighter at Night has developed a strong following throughout Australia as well as a reputation for playing explosively energetic live sets. Their unique take on pop-punk-alternative music along with incredibly catchy female vocal melodies is quickly proving that they are not a band to be underestimated.

7:15pm The Ash Ball Project Ash Ball is making his mark on the local Melbourne music scene, collaborating and building friendships with other Melbourne artists whilst honing his own song writing skills. Ash’s musical journey began at age seven, when he started learning the piano. From there the journey progressed rapidly. Ash writes original music and has now released three original EPs. Ash has supported acts such as Stonefield and My Escapade. Ash’s latest EP “The Reason of Fate” debut single won 2012 Voters Choice Award in the prestigious Catapult Song Writing Competition. Working alongside his mentor Michael Paynter, Ash is set to continue releasing new music and playing more shows. Ash has experienced some recent success after lining up some of Melbourne’s finest musicians and his best friends forming his band “The Ash Ball Project.” The band are already stamping their ground in Melbourne, playing Forest Edge Music Festival, supporting well known acts such as Dylan Joel and playing their own headline shows.

With a brand new EP in the works, The Ash Ball Project is looking forward to what the remainder of the year has to offer.

8:15pm INXS Cover Band INXSIVE is a band committed to reproducing not only the sound of INXS, but also the live show that made them memorable.

With the combination of an impressive live sound and vibrant stage presence, INXSIVE gives every audience the opportunity to experience the inspiring and proudly Australian music that INXS created. INXSIVE is Melbourne based and has been performing since 1998. Their live performances have varied from pubs, nightclubs, corporate shows and large outdoor venues, both locally and nationally. With each member having a solid musical background, their experience individually and as a unit clearly shines in INXSIVE. A must see for all INXS fans!

SUNDAY 19 JANAURY 2014 11:10am Peninsula Folk Club For the past 30 years The Peninsula Folk Club has been presenting Folk Music in the area. The club meets on the first Sunday of each month at the Frankston Bowls Club, Yuille Street with the opportunity for everyone to perform plus “Jam sessions� specifically aimed at helping up and coming performers on the third Thursday of the month.

With interests ranging from American folk through Irish, British and Contemporary, the Peninsula Folk Club band covers a wide range of music within the folk genre.

The band is made up of experienced club regulars whose strong vocals are complemented by a wide range of acoustic instruments including 6/12 string guitars, mandolin, the American dobro slide guitar and the Irish bodhran giving audiences a wonderful musical experience.

12:00pm Erik Parker Erik is a Melbourne based solo performer. Singing with soul, switching between guitar and ukulele and driving the songs with a stomp box, he draws from a wealth of musical influences, with elements of folk, jazz, country, blues and soul to accompany heartfelt lyrics. Erik grew up on the Mornington Peninsula and developed his craft playing in local cafes and bars. He still performs on the Peninsula in the warmer months. Erik toured to Adelaide and Central Australia recently, with regular gigs in Melbourne and regional areas.

1:00pm Ripple Effect Ryan Pate and Peter Davies formed Ripple Effect in 2010. They quickly made a name for themselves having played at venues from open mic nights, to local sports bars, clubs and pubs and the MCG. Peter Davies has won numerous awards, plays two different guitars, a loop system and delivers magical harmonies.

Lead singer is Ryan Pate has a beautiful range, a classic voice, with an amazing tone and control. Now with the addition of drums and bass it really comes together as a great sound. They play covers from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and now. Classic to modern hard rock bands such as the Foo Fighters all the way to Birds of Tokyo.

2:00pm The Corner Shop Kids Corner Shop Kids’ mellow, catchy tunes do indeed remind you of a place in which worry is not a problem, like a place where kids hang out happily at the corner store. Ryan Fellows, Josh Walton and Tom Simpson describe their music as “pretty chilled… something positive to listen to when you are in a bad mood.” What is especially striking about the boys, though, is that this attitude not only infiltrates their music, but also their lives. They are driven by the desire to see that worry-free state spread throughout the community, even among the homeless and less fortunate. All the profits from their first EP go to helping the homeless through City Life Foundation. They’re a band not to miss if you’re out to enjoy a beautiful day and summery tunes

BlackWater Riff

With a subtle blend of roots and rock genres and a laid-back image, BlackWater Riff is out to create a sound that encapsulates the Mornington Peninsula which they call home. Whilst drawing inspiration from early rock ‘n’ roll such as Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, BlackWater Riff's music is reminiscent of ‘90s rock such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Incubus, infused with fresh sounds and a cruisey feel. Blackwater Riff's refined live performance has earned them opportunities to play alongside Australian touring acts such as The Beautiful Girls, You Am I, Blue King Brown, Ash Grunwald and New Zealand reggae act The Black Seeds. BlackWater Riff has spent 2013 writing new material and been the resident band at “Plugged In Thursdays” at The Bay Hotel Mornington.

4:00pm Superjuice Born on a leaf that grew in a downward spiral from the heavens, out from a green egg hatched the band SUPERJUICE! For the past four years this seven piece reggae funk powerhouse has been playing original music all over Melbourne at bars, venues and festivals.

Supporting the likes of Pseudo Echo, with two film clips, an EP and a big repertoire of crowd pleasing originals, they have been described as a youthful version of “The Cat Empire” and their music can be viewed on www.cammineo.com.

5:00pm Andy Phillips & the Cadillac Walk Andy Phillips & The Cadillac Walk is a three piece blues band from Frankston. Killer lead guitar by Andy Phillips combined with high energy and hard driving classic blues influenced by the Texas and Chicago blues scene with a sprinkling of British blues. Andy’s reputation as a talented and professional songwriter and guitarist has led to numerous collaborations; recordings and sessional guitar work over the past two decades both within Australia and overseas. With his band Cadillac Walk, Andy brings his dynamic and talented drummer and bass player together to put on and rip up a show like no other. Influences: Fabulous Thunderbirds, Mike Bloomfield and Stevie Ray Vaughan among many others.
