Greetings, Franklin College alumni and friends!

May at Franklin College is a time of celebration, as we honor the achievements of our graduating students. Commencement marks both the end of their academic journeys and the beginning of their professional paths. The pride on the faces of our graduates and their families tells a powerful story of perseverance and hope for the future both for Indiana and beyond.

This year’s commencement speaker, The Honorable Kip Tom, brought a uniquely fitting perspective. As a Hoosier farmer, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and chairman of Tom Farms, Ambassador Tom shared insights rooted in Indiana’s agricultural legacy and global relevance. He reminded our graduates that some of the world’s most pressing challenges like food insecurity and sustainability can be addressed by people right here in Indiana who possess a strong work ethic, a global outlook, and a sense of purpose.

His message was clear: education must be tied to action. He encouraged lifelong learning, fueled by curiosity and humility, and driven by the understanding that growth never stops. “Keep learning,” he urged, “not just from books or screens, but from the people around you, from the setbacks you’ll face, from the risks you’ll take. Be proud of what you’ve achieved, but hungrier for what’s ahead. The world needs your ideas, your energy and your courage.”

At Franklin College, we share that philosophy. We know leadership today requires more than classroom knowledge. It demands interdisciplinary, immersive experiences that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Our students engage in internships, research, and service that prepare them to tackle complex issues with compassion and confidence.

We are developing the communicators who will shape public policy, the scientists who will address human and environmental concerns, the business professionals who will drive innovation, and the educators who will inspire future generations. They are

becoming lifelong learners and leaders who understand that success means striving for solutions even when they seem out of reach.

I’ve seen firsthand how the right mix of opportunity, challenge and support helps students discover their passions and pursue their potential. Ambassador Tom, a Hoosier who brought local experience to a global mission, serves as a powerful example of what’s possible.

And now, the Franklin College Class of 2025 is prepared to follow that example ready to lead, serve, and make a difference in the world.

We celebrated the accomplishments of our graduating class on May 24, 2025, awarding 220 degrees in total. The top 5 majors were business, exercise science, biology, psychology and sports information.
