The Amazing Miniatures of Emil J. Cost

mil J. Cost made the miniatures in this collection over a period of nearly forty years, from the mid–1970s through the spring of 2012. The earliest model is the one-eighth-scale Knabe upright piano, acknowledged as the “world’s smallest playable piano” in the 1988 Guiness Book of World Records. The Erie Canal Aqueduct model resides in the permanent collection of the Sims Erie Canal Museum in Camillus, New York. and was photographed in late April 2012 at that location. The real aqueduct has since been restored to its original function, and is featured in a few of the pictures of Emil in that section of the book. The other pieces were photographed on the same day at Emil’s home in Camillus.
