I started smoking weed with frequency when I

lived in Pittsburgh and was surrounded by a group of brilliant black bohemian women who referred to weed as “herb” and rolled their joints skinny and tight. We would gather on Sunday afternoons, the clouds often hanging low because it’s always cloudy on the east coast, watch esoteric films and discuss life themes with eccentric flair. Those joints would turn into blunts as the night wore on and our energy shifted toward music that would move our bodies as well as our spirit. Even now more than a decade later, when it rains, I still think about those Sunday afternoons, the light hazy with smoke, our giggles echoing in the air around us. I still find comfort, stability and the knowing of unconditional love from the friendships I still hold with those women, and we have become a coven, of sorts. Some of us are closer than others but there is for sure no other group of women who have known me more than that solid group of Sunday bohemians. When I play stirring soul music on hot summer afternoons, I think of the ways in which I was groomed with love, watered like the herb we smoked and accepted without pretense. I don’t think I understood the longevity of friendships and relationships at the time, I just knew my mind was expanding. I’ve always been a bit of a mystic, as it were, and in love with things that were otherworldly, but it wasn’t until these women helped me understand what it means to fuss over charging crystals, building an altar and the coolness in self-spirituality, that I became actualized. That probably sounds more “new-age” than I mean it to be but, it’s the truth. When I return to Pittsburgh, I recall all the years of growing into the fullness of my adulthood, the bevy of mistakes I made, the lessons from which I learned and the energy that has carried me to the person I am today.

When I moved to Denver, I immediately sought out that same sort of coven energy I had been building while in Pittsburgh, and unsurprisingly, the herb was a catalyst in finding my community. I lived in Boulder for the first year of being in Colorado and I lived next door to a woman named Elle. She was a CU Boulder attendee, a good Jewish girl and she smoked hella weed. This was before Amendment 64 so there weren’t dispensaries on every corner and being new to the city, she offered to show me around and share with me her connect; a shaggy haired hippy kid who sold $50 eights from his studio apartment in some massive split-level house turned into apartments. Elle smoked out of a pipe shaped like a fish which we lovingly called “The Fish.” We’d laugh, watch movies like Alice in Wonderland and celebrate the coming together of two entirely different people who found comfort and pleasure in sharing space with one another. Eventually, I’d meet her family and Sader dinner at their home became an annual occurrence. When she met the boy who would eventually become her husband, I celebrated with her like one of my sisters, and when my mother passed, she was there with me from beginning to end (as were the women from Pittsburgh). It’s funny how these little situations become some of the most important moments in creating long-lasting friendships and relationships. I have what some might call a “public personality.” There are news articles written about me and by me, I’ve done some pretty exciting and accomplished things that have given me applause and the stinging of the public’s unyielding opinion. There are people who believe they are close to me because of the closeness in proximity that exists on the

internet, and there are people who believe my living has impacted (or impeded, depending on who you ask) their life’s work. To me, I am a collection of memories, reflections, lessons, laughter, emotions and creative moments. To the world outside, I often exist in a vacuum of what I “do” rather than what I “am.” Perhaps those years of Sunday sessions in Pittsburgh, or smoking weed out of the fish were so far behind me I, too allowed the internet to shroud me from the outside world, even as my profile rose during my early years of becoming a Coloradan. More often than not, I find myself in small circles of friends, laughing in varying stages of rolling up weed, grinding up weed, or packing bowls of weed, enjoying each other’s company and doing anything except talking about work. Life is not as simple as those Sunday afternoons but I find myself fulfilled in spaces where I can hear conversations, see expressions lighting up the faces of those I love and in general experiencing a calm atmosphere. When I say this openly to people who only know me in print, or on the internet, or at concerts and shows, they’re surprised. Most think I have what I lovingly refer to as a “blow jobs and manicure” kind of career. That means they think all I do is party for a living. Some days, I’m backstage with musicians or producing sold-out shows, or creating opportunities for artists and it’s all love, fun, weed and games. What many miss though, are the long hours, the hard times, the lonely times when it’s just me, the herb and sparkling water up late at night, toiling away at what I believe is my life’s work, Donny Hathaway’s voice curling out from the speakers as the clock ticks pass the “witching hour.” I value those times and moments of peace and solitude. I operate in a space of servitude to this life. I ask for what I need from the world and aim to give more than I receive. That’s why I believe I’m blessed by friendships that are long-lasting, business associates who believe in me and the vision, and more than enough love from my family to last me generations.

Sure, I fist pump with the best of them and light the extra large joints as we victory dance in the green room of some venue we’ve packed out. I definitely high five all the artists who create moments of glee, success and celebration, and I happily pass the joints to my staff as we sweep the night’s festivities from our clothing, mind and body. I work hard, play harder and nap even harder. I’m always off on Saturdays, no matter where I am in the world, you can find me smoking weed, drinking a ton of water and relaxing. Even if I’m working on a Saturday, it never feels like work because I am indeed in love with this life and all the things that come with it. When I go back home to New York City and link up with my family, I know to expect joints of the finest herb rolled and waiting before we enjoy some sort of soulful Jamaican food paired with our laughter, loving teasing and overall enjoyment. These are the moments that matter the most to me. The times when I can be myself around those who know me the best and without a care in the world what the numbers looked like from some massive event, or what artist is coming through town. Life is so good and beautiful and I mean that in ways that are true because I remember what life was like before the bohemians, or before Elle and I smoked every morning from the fish, watching the sun rise over the Boulder foothills. To the outside world, it seems like I’m working all the time, and that’s because I have a mind that’s always going and honestly, I do believe this is my life’s work. I love what I do so yes, that “doing” is a major part of who I am. Who I have become and the person I know I’m growing into, though, is the person who loves those quieter moments, those times of looking those you love in the eye as joints are passed, the moments when the music hits you just right. This is the life I have created for myself and I am so excited for what’s ahead. No matter what happens, good or bad, I know my loved ones will be right there with me, steady as the latest joint rolled to perfection and ready to be lit with our love. It might sound too good to be true, but it isn’t. Life is just right.

TOO MANY VARIABLES? TRY USING DOSATRON WITH

A

B

Hydroponic Research has partnered with one of the leaders in nutrient delivery systems, DOSATRON, to develop an ALL PHASE Craft Powder specifically for use with fertigation systems.

Featured Grow: Monte Fiore Farms 8 FOX & NUG Walsenburg, CO • FALL 2018

LESS VARIABLES = EXCEPTIONAL HARVESTS. Using a proportionate mixer or fertigation system, like Dosatron, substantially reduces your variables; watering times, labor, and products used more consistency and exceptional harvests. Mixing and hand watering times are drastically reduced, or even eliminated, by switching to a system where nutrients are automatically dosed and mixed into your reservoir. A STAND ALONE SOLUTION. VEG+BLOOM has taken the same quality of their powdered one-part base nutrient and created a craft powder two-part base nutrient that can be used as stand alone stock for concentrate tanks. DOS A+B can be used alone, but we recommend using in conjunction with our bloom flowering additive SHINE. GREAT FOR LARGE OR SMALL SCALE OPERATIONS. Whether you are large scale grower looking to minimize labor costs and variables, or a small scale grower looking to streamline your feeding routine, using an automated nutrient system can give you more time where it matters.

lex & Janet didn’t know each other in 2013 but they lived in the same state and had a lot of the same interests. They both wanted to create a sex toy made by women for women and their passion set them on a collision course that would disrupt the sex toy industry in a big way. Now, their small company in Brooklyn houses 3 full-time female engineers, all focused on one act: creating the most technologically progressive sex toys in the business. The story is of two twenty-something women — Alexandra Fine (a clinical psychology major and “sex expert”) and Janet Lieberman (an MIT-educated mechanical engineer) — who were introduced over breakfast after peers realized that they had both been independently trying to start sex toy companies. The goal: Bring revolutionary toys created by women into the male-dominated industry of sex toys. We’re honored, and quite tickled, to have landed an interview with Alexandra Fine, Co-Founder and CEO of Dame Products!

F&N: Tell us more about how you & Janet were introduced? AF: Janet tracked me down after being mistaken for me at a meet up! We had both been going to networking events in Brooklyn describing ourselves as passionate about creating better toys for sex. People started mistaking us for one another (it’s not every day that a young woman is starting a sex toy company in Brooklyn), and so she contacted me, and we got breakfast. The rest is herstory.

F&N: Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves? AF: I’ve always been interested in sexuality. As far back as I can remember, it seemed like a really natural thing to be curious and passionate about. I went on to earn my Masters in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in sex therapy from Columbia University. I loved learning and studying human interaction. My true passion will always be passion. I soon realized that my skills, my heart, my everything, could more effectively improve our culture’s sexual psyche by designing and marketing vibrators. So that’s what I did, I began developing my own vibrators at home and asking friends to give me their feedback. Janet earned her mechanical engineering degree at MIT before starting her career in product development, designing everything from dustpans to 3D printers. Janet had a revelation one day when buying a vibrator: she was an intelligent, educated and product-savvy woman — and she couldn’t figure out how to use half of the vibrators out there. She realized she hadn’t been holding sex toys to the same standard as other consumer good products. F&N: How was the creative process for making the first working Eva? AF: Eva (now Eva II) was born out of the realization that clitoral stimulation was extremely important, and yet extremely under-served by the available toys for sex on the market. When I met Janet, she was able to help me execute the concept in a really beautiful, well-made way. Eva quickly became the most highly crowdfunded sex toy in the history of...well, the world — and provided a unique alternative to existing options while also shining a notable spotlight on the importance of clitoral stimulation for people with vulvas. It’s the first hands-free, strap free, couples vibe and was created to be worn by a vulva-owner during penetrative sex. It tucks inside the labia and provides clitoral stimulation — something that over 75% of vulva-owners really require. It’s very seamless and really caters to people who are looking for extra Eva II was updated to be lighter and fit even more vulvas. F&N: What’s one of your favorite aspects of the company? AF: My favorite aspect of our company is that we view sexuality as a normal aspect of our whole identities. We don’t treat it like it’s a naughty part of your brain that is only for night time, but rather acknowledge that

12 FOX & NUG • FALL 2018

masturbation and sexual pleasure are important aspects of the quality of everyday life. With rigorous product development, continuous testing and iterative 3-D prototyping, we’ve shown that sex toy development can be just as technologically advanced as that for inventions in any other industry. I think we’ve also (if I might add a second) really proved that technology doesn’t need to be obtrusive and that it can actually enhance intimacy both with others and with yourself. F&N: What’s a typical day at the office like? AF: It would definitely depend on who you’re asking! For me, I spend a good deal of my time helping my team members prioritize their tasks and strategizing how they can best accomplish their internal goals. I really like that being a good manager is mostly being a good life coach. I also spend my own time strategizing marketing campaigns and plotting schemes to get around ad policies. I also do interviews like these, approve creative and negotiate partnership deals. We also have 4 engineers on our team and one market researcher, so their days are obviously a little bit different from mine. We have a product development lab where they physically make vibrator prototypes for testing. F&N: So how did you convince Kickstarter to let you be the first sex toy ever crowdfunded on the platform? AF: We were able to convince Kickstarter to allow us on the platform through honest conversations. There were a few reasons why they were wary but they mostly boil down to the taboo surrounding these toys for sex. We wrote to Kickstarter (some of the employee’s had become friends with us via the NY hardware scene) asking them to let us on the site and reminding them that we too are purpose-driven makers, just like everyone else on their site. We reminded them of their values and illustrated how we align with those values. They literally approved our campaign in 2 days!

Dame Products’ story is a true testament to what passion, innovation, networking and collaboration can bring to the market. Check back next issue for our two page review on the most interesting sex toy of the century!

LOBSTER with HONEY GARLIC WINE SAUCE

featuring Binske Honey

INSTRUCTIONS

INGREDIENTS

Position a rack in the middle of the oven (4-6 inches from heat element). Preheat broiler and line a baking tray / sheet with foil.

4 6oz (170g) fresh lobster tails 1/2 a small onion cut into 4 wedges 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1/3 cup white wine (Sauternes) 1/4 cup Binske Honey 6 large cloves garlic crushed 1-2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 teaspoon salt or to taste Cracked pepper to taste Lemon slices to serve 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and sautĂŠ until fragrant (about 1 minute), then add the white wine. Allow to simmer and let reduce slightly (about 2-3 minutes), then add the honey, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Whisk until the honey has melted through the butter and the mixture is well combined. Set aside. Using sharp kitchen shears, cut the top shell down the center of the back to the end of the tail, leaving tail fan intact. Remove vein or shell shards, if any. Run your finger between the meat and the shell to loosen it. Spread the meat slightly open. Pull and lift the lobster meat off of the bottom of the shell, being careful not to pull the tail out completely.

@foxandnug @binske

Place lobster tails, meat side up, on baking sheet. Set aside. Sprinkle each lobster with a pinch of salt and a little pepper. Using half of the sauce, pour or brush over each lobster (concentrating on top and bottom of the meat) and reserve the remaining sauce for serving. Broil for 12 to 14 minutes or until lobster meat is opaque, and edges are slightly charred. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately with the remaining sauce and lemon slices.

Favorite Strain: I really dislike limiting myself in life. To have to choose just one strain is unfair! Lately I’ve been smoking on this Strawberry Guava. Super nice. Always a fan of Sour D. Favorite Way To Smoke: Flower.. Out of a bowl, bong, or joint.. Anyway really! I’ll dab socially.. but I like to keep my tolerance low. Hobbies & Dreams: My hobbies are photography, hiking, nature, and travel. I dream to be a famous booty model with a protein edible line, and a million other things! My dreams are infinite and constantly growing. Why do you do what you do? I do what I do because I do what I want! That’s the only way to live. I also think it’s insanely healthy to express your creativity. We tend to lose that as adults and I think It’s essential in human growth. What do you want to share with the world? I want the world to know that I am a huge advocate for self-love. When you truly love yourself, you only have kindness and compassion for others. When we are born we are only taught how to receive love from others, then to give it back. Rarely are we taught how to love ourselves (unless you have totally awesome parents!). When there is self-love, there are no insecurities, no feelings of anger/jealousy/resentment, just pure love. If everyone put this practice into their daily routine, the world would be a kinder place. Let’s start loving again!! See more of her shoot online at foxandnug.com/fox

STARFLIGHT GUAVA BREEDER : Bodhi Seeds CULTIVATED BY : FOX & NUG Test Gardens LINEAGE : Stardawg (Guava Cut) x Snow Lotus FLOWER TIME : 8-9 Weeks NUTRIENTS: Veg+Bloom, Mammoth P

FLAVORS : Starflight Guava is a beautiful purple bud that tastes like a semi-sweet white icee on a hot summer day. While it grows like more like Stardawg, it has floral hints laced in that odious funk from its Snow Lotus parent, a classic knockout from the breeders at Bodhi Seeds.

EFFECTS : This short, chunky plant likes to grow out instead of up. Expect a long lasting, super stoney high. Casual users and newbies should approach with caution. As this bud will put you on your ass. Habitual users can still expect to feel a heavily relaxing and sedative high. Starflight Guava is also great for pain relief and a good night’s sleep.

A story about the woman who loved the industry so much she destroyed $28 million of tainted cannabis. We had the opportunity to moderate a seminar at the Indo Expo led by a woman named Kim Stuck, more lovingly dubbed “The Weed Whacker” by the cannabis industry. During her reign at the Health Department, Kim participated in over 120 recalls resulting in the TOTAL destruction of 28 million dollars worth of product, and we couldn’t be more pleased. During the seminar, her anecdotal stories shocked and entertained as she painted a perfect picture of why health code regulations are so important for the industry. We knew we had to score an interview. “One of the OPCs I went into had a kiddie pool in the packaging room, I didn’t think much of it at first until I saw a tail splash - they had a literal alligator just chilling in the packaging room. Now, it’s completely OK to have a pet alligator in your home but it’s never OK to have your pets in any area where cannabis products are being produced or packaged.” said Kim. After destroying all of that product Kim realized she could be helping companies prevent these kinds of setbacks and Allay Consulting was formed.

F&N: So how did you start regulating cannabis? KS: I have degree in Human Nutrition-Biochem focused around food safety and was working in the health department when cannabis was legalized recreationally. Everyone was talking about “How are we going to regulate this.” No one knew what to do. I essentially went home and created a pitch for the job and I was assigned to the team responsible for regulating the cannabis industry. F&N: So how did you transition from Weed Whacker to Consultant? KS: I really grew fond of all the people I was meeting in the industry. These people weren’t intentionally malicious, they just seriously didn’t know any better. F&N: During the seminar you were talking about the importance of making products that won’t kill people. Exactly how can cannabis kill you? KS: A lot of ways actually. Clostridium Botulinum for one. C. Bot is naturally occurring in our environment, on your skin and also on cannabis plants. When you put cannabis/oil that has C. Bot spores in an oil or tincture, the bacteria is suspended in zero oxygen at room temperature and the bacteria proliferates. The toxin that is a byproduct of C. Bot is what can kill you. A pint glass of botulinum toxin is enough to kill the entire planet, if dispersed correctly.

FALL 2018 • FOX & NUG 45

F&N: That’s terrifying!

F&N: So what’s your goal in all of this?

KS: Then there’s salmonella, e coli, listeria. You and I would probably be fine. But think of the people who use cannabis products that are immunocompromised, the young and the elderly. These food borne illnesses could kill someone in what we call “highly susceptible populations.”

KS: My goal, or my purpose in life, is to make sure cannabis is safe and accessible worldwide.

F&N: How can viruses be spread to cannabis products? KS: If you’re shedding a virus and touch an edible with your bare hands or a even with gloves that you’ve touched your face with you can spread that virus to the consumer. F&N: How do most people receive the information you provide them. KS: I find that when I explain the “why” to my clients, then the “how” makes a lot more sense to those who might not have understood why we have these rules and how they save lives every day in other industries.

Needless to say, we are happy women like Kim exist. If you are looking to start a cannabis company, OPC, MIPS, or hemp-based product line we would highly recommend seeking this bombshell out. Kim is known and loved throughout the industry and has earned a new reputation for helping cannabis companies navigate the road to full State and Federal compliance. I

am a medical marijuana patient. The medicine helps my chronic pain from injuries during twenty-five years of service in the U.S. Army and from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of my service with the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq. In my state of Texas, this makes me a criminal. Texas NORML was founded in 1974 by some brave students from their dorm room at the University of Texas. Willie Nelson rented them an office downtown in Austin. In 1974, the Texas legislature changed possession of any amount of marijuana from a felony to a Class B misdemeanor for two ounces or less. Marijuana legalization seemed like it was very close. But since then, Texas has not passed a single significant bill to reform marijuana law. Why? The reason is, unlike Colorado and other legal states, we do not have the right to ballot initiative. Texans do not have the right to gather signatures to put new legislation on the ballot for a vote by the people. The politicians in Texas keep all the power to themselves. Meanwhile, Texas arrests 60,000 people every year for possessing marijuana, 95% for two ounces or less.

$2,000 dollar fine and 180 days in prison. Possession of 2-4 ounces is a Class A misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a $4,000 dollar fine and one year in prison. Possession of any amount of concentrates in Texas is a felony. Citizens in Texas are arrested every day and their lives completely disrupted for violating these unjust laws. So what can we do? In Texas and other states without ballot initiative, we must convince our legislators to reform our antiquated and unjust marijuana laws. This can only be done through legislative action. One of the best methods for us to get our concerns to our legislator is to write a letter. Letter writing is somewhat of a lost art in the modern day of smart phones and apps. But legislators still consider a letter to be an indicator of the voter’s seriousness and sincerity about an issue. This is old-school, but many of our legislators are very old-school. Most of us have five key representatives to reach out to: two U.S. Senators, our U.S. Representative to Congress from our local district, our State Senator and our State Representative. We can write one letter and send it to all five of our representatives. Our two U.S. Senators and our Congressional Representative affect law at the federal level and our State Senator and State Representative affect law at the state level. Most state legislatures have a website where you can do a simple search to find your representatives.

It might seem like an arrest for a misdemeanor is a minor irritant, but an arrest for any amount of marijuana in Texas can be a life changing event. Federal law mandates that states suspend the driver’s license of people convicted of a drug offense or risk losing federal highway funds. State legislatures can vote to opt out of this requirement, and most have, but Texas enthusiastically enforces this federal intrusion into state law enforcement. If a person loses driving privileges for six months, how do they get to work? How do they buy groceries? How do they take their child to the doctor? The arrested person needs to hire a lawyer. Most of us cannot afford legal expenses but defending ourselves in court is not a good idea. The person has to take off from work to attend court hearings. If not sent to prison, the newly convicted offender has to attend drug education classes and endure probation, including mandatory drug tests, all paid for by the convicted person. The maximum penalty for a Class B misdemeanor is a

What we have been told by legislative aides at the Capitol in Austin is that personal letters are best. The legislator does not actually read the letter when it arrives at his or her office. An aide screens the letters. From the aide, letters that make the cut go to higher up aides who focus on specific issues: healthcare, criminal justice, veterans’ affairs and other issues of interest to the legislator. The only letters the aides pass on to the legislator are letters that have impact: letters from wealthy donors or influential people, letters that raise a new, interesting issue or letters that have emotional resonance. Since most of us are hardworking, regular citizens and not wealthy donors or in positions of

political influence, how can we have a chance that our letter will be read by someone who will actually care about our issue? The answer is a personal letter about how current unjust marijuana laws have affected us or our family members. By personal letter, I mean a letter about a personal experience. Everyone loves a story, especially if the story is true and emotional and appeals to the reader’s sense of justice. Don’t worry about statistics, history, scientific evidence—these facts will be provided to the legislator by activist organizations such as the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Law, or NORML. What the legislator needs to hear from us are our personal stories about how marijuana has had a positive effect on our life or how unjust marijuana laws have had a negative effect on our life.

Keep the facts of your story simple and in chronological order. Say up front the purpose of your letter and, at the end, state exactly the action that you want your legislator to take to help achieve justice in your state. The best example I can give is an actual letter that I have written to my Texas State Senator, Senator Dawn Buckingham. Your letter will be your story. Your story is unique and important. Your letter can change hearts and minds.

The answer is “a personal letter

One more thing about your letter: It is important that you are registered to vote and that you actually vote. Our legislators’ aides can check to make sure that we are registered voters in the legislator’s district and that we have voted in past elections. They cannot tell who we voted for but they can see that we voted. Our vote is our most powerful weapon for change. Let’s pledge to work until no one in our great country has to fear being arrested and incarcerated for possessing a plant. Our United States Declaration of Independence states that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are our unalienable rights. Unjust marijuana laws violate these rights. We the people are determined to end these unjust laws.

about how current unjust marijuana laws have affected us or our family members.

The letter should be one page. It can be hand-written if you have good handwriting or it can be typewritten. Always be respectful. One of the most important aspects of our work is to break the false stereotype of dumb stoners who have no respect for law and order. This Reefer Madness stereotype is a powerful image in the minds of many legislators. It is crucial that legislators understand that people who choose to use marijuana are intelligent, hardworking people who are asking for justice. We are not criminals and we should not be treated as criminals. Your letter and your personal story can go a long way to break the stereotype and establish a new, positive image in the minds of the people reading your letter. Stay on subject.

Dear Senator Buckingham, Thank you for your service to our great state of Texas. The purpose of my letter is to ask you to support a medical marijuana program in Texas for veterans, patients and caregivers. I use marijuana as medicine. I have discovered that marijuana is effective for the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and chronic pain. I was diagnosed with PTSD after I returned from serving in Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division in 2004-2005. I also deal with chronic pain from injuries I received during twenty-five years of service in the U.S. Army. My military doctors and Veterans Administration doctors prescribed psychotropic drugs for PTSD and opiates for chronic pain. I was destined to take these drugs for the rest of my life. The psychotropic drugs had terrible side effects. I lost my emotions. I did not feel functional. I experienced suicidal ideation. I became addicted to the pain medications. I was also using alcohol to help me sleep and deal with the stress of transitioning from military to civilian life. In 2012, I started using medical grade marijuana on a daily basis. After a few months, I noticed that I was drinking less and using less pain medications. I felt like I did not need the psychotropic medication. After one year, I stopped using opiates and psychotropic drugs and I stopped abusing alcohol. For me, medical marijuana became an exit drug from dependence and addiction to pharmaceutical medications. The problem is that in Texas I am labeled a criminal for choosing this natural medication instead of pharmaceutical drugs. I am not a criminal. I own my home. I pay my taxes. I take care of my family. My wife and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary next year. I participate in many community events in our military community near Fort Hood. I vote in every election. Thanks to medical marijuana, I feel healthy and optimistic. I ride my motorcycle all over Texas. I work out at the gym. I am active in supporting political candidates who support marijuana law reform. I am completely engaged in life, unlike when I was dependent on pharmaceutical drugs. Please help me and veterans like me to be able to have legal access to our medication. We need our medical marijuana to be grown by state-licensed and state-inspected grow facilities. We need to purchase our medication at state-licensed and regulated dispensaries. I want to be able to discuss my medication with my doctor. During the 2019 legislative session, I hope that I can count on you to support a medical marijuana program in Texas. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss this issue. I will be visiting your office at the Capitol on January 8 when the 86th Texas Legislature convenes. Thank you for supporting our Texas veterans.

Sincerely,

Major David E. Bass U.S. Army, Retired
