To eat your way through Four Corners and surrounding Orlando communities, is to take a culinary tour of the world. Ours is an almost unfathomable diversity: delicate pork dumplings, mouth-watering steaks, obscure Japanese noodle soups, and even pretty little cupcakes. Here’s our delicious food guide dedicated to the best of our area’s most worldly, genre-defying cuisines. No need to buy a plane ticket.

We might have gone a bit overboard with the restaurant reviews this issue, but there are just so many excellent new and veteran places to try, we didn’t want you to miss out on: Christner’s tasty steak and lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse’s variety of budget-friendly options, Eleven’s gorgeous rooftop view and of course —the grand opening of Sprinkles.

Positioned in the heart of what’s called The Landing at Disney Springs, you may think you’ve arrived in a magical land of fine dining— and in a way, you have. Step inside and you will be greeted with the luxurious decor complete with the most unique chandeliers and Asianinfluenced charm only found in this stunning two story dining destination. - DOWNTOWN CHAMPIONSGATE TH E GATE LUXURY APARTMENTS AT C H A MP I O N S GA T E Pictured Left: Aerial photo of The Gate luxury apartments taken by a drone. ChampionsGate is situated just south of the main gate entrance to the Walt Disney entertainment complex, and is being developed on over 1,500 acres just off Interstate 4.

T • • •

HE GATE is the official name of the luxury apartments coming to Downtown ChampionsGate.

The luxury apartment complex will consist of several buildings: a clubhouse, mail kiosk, pool gazebo, and garages. Other amenities include resort-style pool and spa, plus dog park. Extra large kitchens with entertainment bar, walk-in closets and interior design accented by crown moulding, custom-paneled doors and raised panel cabinetry.

Along with The Gate Luxury Apartments, the project will be bringing retail and restaurants to Downtown ChampionsGate. We had the pleasure of getting some insight from Tom Field, Senior Project Superintendent, on the impact this project will have on our area: How many workers do you have on this project? Currently we are averaging 150 a day, six days a week, in another month we will go up to 225/250 a day. What is the projected date of completion? We anticipate completion Spring 2017. How do you see Downtown ChampionsGate impacting the local area? Bringing a “walk to” environment to a population of over 600 new residents, will bring an energy and a sense of community and neighborhood to ChampionsGate’s commercial core. We anticipate residents will take advantage of the ability to enjoy shopping, banking, eating out and recreation by bike or on foot. This expansion will benefit everyone, as the apartment population adds friends and family to the mix.

CHAMPIONSGATE the transformation continues

- VACATION RENTALS -

YOUR VACATION, YOUR WAY MORE SPACE, MORE PRIVACY, NO COMPRISES

The trend toward staying in vacation rentals feels like a very 21st-century behavior -- but like a lot of things, the truth is that it is better than you imagined. It’s easier than ever to book a vacation home rental. Once you have successfully booked your stay with a vacation rental company such as Reunion Vacation Homes, you can communicate with the property manager about things such as maps, directions to restaurants, shopping, attractions and more. Reunion Vacation Homes is an established vacation rental property management company that manages over 150 properties in several high-end resorts south of Orlando near Walt Disney World. From marketing and booking the rentals to maintenance and house keeping, Reunion Vacation Homes ensure that the property owners reap the benefits from their service while relaxing with a peace of mind, knowing everything is taken care of. They have the expertise, experience and high standard it takes to successfully gratify both property owners and guests, making sure the experience exceeds expectations. At Reunion Vacation Homes, they are very aware of why their guests choose to book a vacation rental property rather than booking into a hotel room, and their aim is to ensure that each guest gets the full benefit from their wise decision. Reunion Vacation Homes takes full advantage of what they have to offer that a hotel does not.

The benefits to renting a vacation home are many: • Save a lot! Renting a vacation home becomes an economical option for families or groups that would otherwise have to pay for more than one hotel room. • Mansion versus shoebox! Guests enjoy a spacious home instead of being cramped into a small hotel room with no privacy. • Save on meals! Eating out every meal becomes very costly. Guests can cook and store their own food in the fully equipped kitchen of their rental home. • Privacy! Guests can enjoy their own pool, their own bathroom, closet space, laundry area, TV etc. In a hotel room, they have to share every space with their party.

When a guest books a stay at a Reunion Vacation Homes resort, they can enjoy the same services and amenities as they would at a hotel. They can enjoy nearby fine dining, fitness, recreation, spa treatments, arcades, and a vacation free of cleaning. Resort swimming pools often include waterpark features or poolside bars, and common options include tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and golf courses. Vacation rental properties are trending among travelers as more people discover the benefits of renting a vacation property versus a hotel room, it becomes their top choice in future travels.

A buyer of a new home in income tax-free Florida does not want to pay thousands of dollars in extra fees each year. Providence offers expansive amenities, stunning views, and luxury homes at the right price. Part-time residents are especially benefited by the affordability of Providence, as it is the perfect place to own a home that will not break the bank. Custom built models and move in ready homes at Providence have livable floor plans and the neighborhood is rich in amenities. If they research the numbers, interested buyers will find that compared to other options in the Orlando area of Florida, Providence wins. This is because of very low ownership costs including no mandatory club dues, although residents get special daily rates if they choose to play golf at the internationally recognized Providence Golf Club, designed by Michael Dasher. Becoming a member at the Club is also discounted for Providence residents.

Why is it so inexpensive to live at Providence? ABD Development Company President, Yuval Botanksy, explains: “Homeowners here do not have to subsidize the golf course, because it pays for itself. We have no Community Development District (CDD) fees, saving you potentially thousands of dollars per year, and if you own in Providence your HOA is only $130 per month. And for that your benefits include use of two pools, residents-only clubhouse, fitness center, tennis courts, and the guarantee of a 24 hour manned security gate. As an added bonus, Polk County’s taxes are some of the lowest in the state of Florida.” Polk County, the quiet countryside setting of Providence and its city of Davenport, is located conveniently southwest of Orlando, Florida. ABD Development has the proud distinction as a multiple award winning community developer and custom home builder since 1993. ABD was the recipient of the Orlando Parade of Homes Grand Award for Community Development for Providence in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Providence was also awarded Outstanding Feature Award for Clubhouse & Amenities in 2014. The models in Heritage Green and Sherbrook Springs, ABD’s neighborhoods within the community, have also won numerous awards at the Parade of Homes over the years. Whether you are sick of freezing temperatures in the winter, relocating, retiring, or just wanting a better home community with low HOA dues, no club fees and lots of amenities, Providence Golf & Country Club is one development you don’t want to miss when making your home buying decision.

Their Filet Mignon Egg Rolls and Pan Seared Lump Crab Cakes are out of this world. But don’t take our word for it, try them next time you dine at this luxurious oasis. After you have enjoyed their culinary excellence, we believe the best way to finish off a spectacular dinner here is to kick back with one of Eleven’s modern crafted cocktails, such as our recommendation, the Floradora, which is a refreshing mix of Hendrick’s Gin, lime juice, fresh raspberries and ginger beer. And of course you are sipping on this uniquely crafted cocktail while enjoying the world famous theme park fireworks from Eleven’s unparalleled rooftop view.

- YOUR HEALTH -

W

ith the advent of summer there are certain conditions that seem to plague us such as swimmers ear, sun burn and insect bites. Going back to an old adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, (per Ben Franklin) all of these conditions can be prevented by using common sense, modern medicine and old time remedies. SWIMMERS EAR is usually the result of staying in the water too long without drying out your ears or wax buildup. The buildup of wax traps water in the ear causing an infection. The excessive moisture leads to an overgrowth of bacteria in the ear canal. There are several factors that may increase your risk of swimmers ear such as swimming in lakes or pools not well maintained, aggressive cleaning of the ear canal with Q-tips creating micro-tears in the ear canal skin, excessive wearing of headphones or hearing aids and certain skin conditions such as psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. For many years, family physicians recommended using a homemade remedy to prevent getting swimmers ear which consisted of equal parts rubbing alcohol and white vinegar. The alcohol keeps the ear canal dry and the vinegar maintains the PH. Using 4 drops morning and night whether or not you swim will prevent or cut down on the number of infections. If an infection does develop then one must seek medical attention to remove any wax or debris and receive antibiotic drops. Prompt treatment can help prevent complications and more serious infections.

SUNBURN is preventable no matter what the color of your skin. When at the beach or pool side remember that it is not only the direct sunlight that will affect you but the reflective rays from the water and sand. Don’t be fooled by a cloudy day, for the potential for sunburn still exists as 80% of the suns rays penetrate the clouds. A sunscreen is recommended that is at least 15spf to 30spf or better depending on your skin type and preferably one that doesn’t wash off in the water. A blonde or red haired, blue eyed person will react to the sun far sooner than an olive skinned person and would require a stronger sun screen. The sunscreen must protect against UVA/UVB rays and have a sun protection factor of at least 30spf. It should be applied at least ½ hour prior to going out and be reapplied every 2 hours. Avoid being in the sun between 10am and 4pm.

Wear a board brimmed hat that shields your face and protect your eyes with UV sunglasses. If you notice that you or your children are becoming red, cover with a t-shirt, move to a shady area or indoors. Limit your time in the sun initially 20 minutes, then increase gradually each day. After coming in from the pool or beach, take a cool shower and use a moisturizing cream with aloe.

Open Saturday: 9am-3pm

If you are sunburned do not expose yourself to any further sun without adequate clothing. Take Motrin for pain, drink extra water, apply cold compresses to the areas, take cool showers and apply aloe vera lotion. If you have blisters do not break them, just apply antibacterial cream to the area with a dressing.
