ATHLETICS AT FVS Set amid a majestic Rocky Mountain landscape, Fountain Valley takes full advantage of its unique location in the American West to provide a oneof-a-kind, inspiring Athletics experience. We aim to provide all students with challenging and fun competitive athletic offerings as well as activities. As a core component of our program, FVS students are encouraged to stretch their bodies and minds, explore their limits, learn the value of goal-setting, and develop a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Anchoring our entire Athletics program is the Julie and Spencer Penrose Athletic Center, an outstanding 60,000+ square-foot complex complete with an eight-lane, 25-meter swimming and diving pool, spin room with 21 bikes, 6,000-square-foot climbing gym with 37 foot walls and auto-belay systems, and weight room modeled after the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, also known as Olympic City USA. Each season, students are expected to participate in an after-school activity. In addition to the unique offerings listed above, FVS offers a variety of mountain sports as well as other competitive athletic options ranging from volleyball, soccer and tennis to basketball, swimming and diving, and lacrosse.

THE FVS EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM The FVS Equestrian program began with the School’s inception in 1930 and remains a unique part of our Western heritage today. A picturesque Rocky Mountain setting with 1,100 acres of rolling prairie and miles of riding trails creates an equestrian experience beyond compare. The FVS riding program–offering access to over 55 School-owned horses and facilities to board one’s horse–caters to beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders and includes competitions within the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA). Expert riding instruction, an expansive outdoor facility, a remarkable indoor riding arena, and barn facilities complement expert instruction in English and Western riding.

M OUNTA I N S PO RTS Our unique Colorado location and indoor and outdoor athletic facilities provide access to one of the country’s most robust Mountain Sports programs. An obvious highlight of our program is our climbing gym containing the largest high school climbing wall in the United States. The Mountain Sports experience at FVS also includes miles of challenging mountain biking trails that crisscross our 1,100 acre prairie campus and travel among spectacular Rocky Mountain terrain to compete in the Colorado High School Cycling League. The FVS Athletic Department is also pleased to provide weekend skiing and snowboarding throughout the winter. Students shred the slopes of the Rockies with their friends at popular resorts, including Keystone and Breckenridge.

AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES At Fountain Valley, we recognize that even our most dedicated athletes might need a break from the playing field. There are many other ways to challenge and engage their bodies and minds, as FVS offers a wide range of additional afternoon activities, including Broadcasting, Theater and Theater Tech, and General Fitness. Each of these programs is designed to keep our students active and engaged with their own growth outside of the classroom.

Additional After-School Offerings Include: • Robotics • Broadcasting • Theater • Theater Tech • General Fitness

A BOUT F V S In the shadow of America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak, lies Fountain Valley School (FVS) a private, co-educational college-preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9–12 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Founded in 1930, FVS is located on an 1,100-acre Prairie containing a working ranch and water rights to the American West. With 12 miles of wilderness trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian riding, students utilize the entire FVS campus for hands-on educational purposes and recreation. FVS students are buoyed by their deep understanding of the American West, politically, environmentally, socially, and culturally, which they use as a lens to understanding their connection to the broader world. Our 240 member student body consists of 70% boarding students from over 25 countries and 30 states. We are located 5 miles from the Colorado Springs Airport and 82 miles from Denver International Airport. Our students and faculty take advantage of living close to a city for offcampus programming and weekend excursions. Our intentionally small classes, with an average 12:1 student to teacher ratio, enable faculty and peers to know your child. FVS students form lifelong friendships with their classmates, dormmates, advisors, teachers, and coaches within a learning community that is equal parts challenge and care. Students are encouraged to explore their academic interests from a broad selection of over 100 courses at the advanced, honors, or college-preparatory levels, with the option to take AP exams each May for juniors and seniors. Our academic skills center provides a two-on-one setting where every student can seek subject-specific support or hone crucial skills of organization and time management as they grow to understand their learning style.
