UNRIVALLED EXPERTISE, UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE
Travel With the Pioneers of Modern Polar Exploration
In 1966, Lars-Eric Lindblad brought the first tourists to Antarctica, ushering in a new era of exploration on the white continent. The voyage launched a rich tradition of polar discovery that has set the stage for National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions to provide the safest and most immersive experience in Antarctica today.
POWERED BY NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC
For more than 20 years, National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions have collaborated to connect curious travelers with incredible experiences. Our itineraries in Antarctica feature a range of immersive activities that bring you into the pages of National Geographic magazine—from kayaking amid towering icebergs to hiking alongside massive glaciers. And a National Geographic photographer joins every Antarctic departure to help you bring home your best photos from your adventure.

The relationship also fuels our Science at Sea programme which welcomes scientists—including National Geographic Explorers—aboard select departures to conduct research. These experts may invite you to engage in activities like plankton tows and microscopy sessions, transforming your voyage into a platform for meaningful discovery.
TRAVEL ABOARD WORLD-CLASS POLAR SHIPS
Travelling aboard our fleet means rare access and real freedom. Carrying no more than 148 passengers, our ships are among the smallest on the continent, which means you can step ashore, roam Antarctica’s wild edges and experience its raw beauty up close. Larger vessels can’t compare. Most face strict landing limits, and many aren’t permitted to disembark guests at all.
Our vessels are outfitted with safety features that far exceed industry standards, and each is helmed by one of our veteran "icemaster" captains, who have collectively commanded more than 600 Antarctic expeditions. This combination of expertise and advanced technology allows us to go farther, stay flexible and deliver the most ambitious itineraries at the bottom of the globe.
PIONEERING RESPONSIBLE EXPLORATION
Every voyage contributes to the preservation of the planet through the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Fund. Your support helps conserve coastal communities and marine habitats—and it funds explorers from the National Geographic Society who are envisioning bold changes for a sustainable future.

WHAT TO EXPECT SEASONS IN ANTARCTICA
No matter when you visit, the grandeur of Antarctica is always on display— but every month is unique in terms of weather and wildlife. This guide reveals what makes each one special.
November
Shores are blanketed in virgin snow, and castles of ice are awash in orange and pink during the midnight sunset: November is a photographer’s dream. When conditions are right, the captain can “park” the ship in the fast ice and disembark travelers for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or hiking across the frozen sea. Penguin colonies are a flurry of courtship activity.
December
Icebergs are still massive, creating a seascape like a natural sculpture garden. Orcas and humpbacks abound, and penguin rookeries are bustling in preparation for the mid-month chick hatching. Clear waters allow our undersea specialists to document an array of surprisingly colorful sea creatures.
January
The austral summer’s warmer weather triggers glaciers to calve thunderous chunks of ice into the sea. Newborn penguins are balls of fluff, chasing down their parents for food. Leopard, crabeater and Weddell seals have birthed their doe-eyed pups.
February
With weakened pack ice, we can expand our exploration to the remote western peninsula. February is also prime time for whales—minke, sperm, southern right and humpback species are all abundant. Penguins are busy feeding their chicks before they fledge into the ocean.
