October has been an exciting month so far! The General Membership Meeting was held on October 10th. We had about 70 in attendance. The 2017 Builder and Associate of the Year awards were presented that night. Congratulations to Jim Sanbeck with Triple J Construction for receiving the Builder of the Year award and Keith Ostlund with Premium Waters, Inc. who received the Associate of the Year award. Also, A special congratulations to LeRoy Kurtyka with Northern Plumbing who received the Forx Builders Hall of Fame award. Thank you LeRoy for your hard work and dedication to our organization on both the state and local level! The annual Chili Cook-Off and Bean Bag Toss Tournament was held on October 14th.

Everyone had a great time at both events! Bill Knipe of Circle K Construction took 1st place in the Chili Cook-Off and 1st Place in the Bean Bag Toss Tournament went to Keith Ostlund and Rob Johnson. Sometimes, winning is everything When it comes to breast cancer, early detection and new treatments are helping beat it. Check out these three key steps to empower you in taking charge of your overall health and helping prevent and overcome breast cancer.

Some women have a higher risk of developing breast cancer, including women age 40 or older, or those who: Have previously had breast or ovarian cancer Are daughters, sisters and/or mothers of women who have had breast cancer Have tested positive for a gene mutation that is associated with higher risk of breast cancer (i.e., BRCA1 or BRCA2)

Found earlier, breast cancer can be more successfully treated. Advice on breast cancer screenings is an excellent reason to have a close relationship with a primary care provider (PCP). Screening guidelines can change and individual risks vary. In general, women should follow these recommended breast cancer screening guidelines.

The North Dakota Association of Builders (NDAB) supports home ownership and rental housing incentives in the current tax code and specifically the deductions for mortgage interest and state and local property taxes as well as provisions that encourage development of affordable housing.

Home Builders Care of F-M Foundation, HBA of F-M's charity, took part in a Key Ceremony for Army Master Sergeant Eric Marts Aug. 19 to welcome him into his new home.

Thanks to the generosity of HBA members, along with the hard work of HBA member and build coordinator Dan Parrow, ISR Homes, the home's cost was $150,000 less than the average Homes for our Troops project.

The HBA of F-M had another sold-out golf outing in August.

Over $3,000 was raised for NDAB-PAC over the summer's two golf outings, thanks to the support of HBA members.

The Fall Parade of Homes was a success with 54 newly constructed homes and five

remodel projects.

The FBA hosted a Picnic in the Park to celebrate Betty McDonald’s retirement. The weather cooperated and everyone was able to enjoy the time and food together! Thank you to all who came out to help us celebrate Betty and her 19 years of service to the FBA..

The 3rd Annual Chili-Cook off tournament was scheduled for October 14th. The FBA will also be hosting its 1st Annual Bean Bag Toss Tournament along with it. The 2017 Parade of Homes was a hit! With higher attendance than last year, MAB is excited to bring back the Parade year after year and establish it as a community event.

· MAB hosted its first Breakfast with the Builders on September 21st. NAHB rep Alex Martindale visited with MAB members and filled them in on what NAHB does for members on a daily basis.

October brings Hard Hat Happy Hour at Arny’s 2.0 Lounge and Bottle Shop. MAB is looking forward to meeting some new members and good drinks!

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT Membership of the Forx Builders Association is currently 257.

The committee reviewed and approved two new member applications.

Future Builders After Hours hosts and months were discussed. Welcome Home By Design is hosting on October 16th.

The committee discussed the upcoming Chili-Cook off & Bean-Bag tournament. It will be held Saturday, October 14th at the Applegren Shop.

The committee discussed and made decisions regarding the General Membership Meeting on October 10th at the Ramada.

The committee also discussed ways to get more member involvement and engagement. Each committee member was asked to bring five names of potential members to the November meeting.

PROJECT HOUSE REPORT

Bid Packages for HVAC, Plumbing Fixtures, and Fireplace were sent out and opened. Grand Forks Heating and A/C was awarded the Fireplace and Installation. Northern Plumbing Supply was awarded the Plumbing Fixtures. Vilandre Heating and A/C was awarded the HVAC (materials only).

The next bid packages will be sent out for Tape & Texture and Paint & Stain.

Members of the committee are working on finalizing colors for siding, soffit, and shingles.

Instructor, Brad Swanson, and General Contractor, Jim Sandbeck, gave the committee an update on the 2018 Project House.
