Cumin-Crusted Lamb With Shallots & Crushed New Potatoes Get the spiced lamb and new potatoes cooking straight away while you do the rest of the prep. This speedy dinner is delicious with a salted tomato salad.

PREP: 10 MINS

COOK: 15 MINS

SERVES: 4

Ingredients • 1 tbsp ground cumin • 1 tbsp ground coriander • 4 trimmed lamb rumps, about 200g each • 2 banana shallots, halved lengthways • 450g new potatoes • 2 spring onions, chopped • 1 lemon, zested and juiced • 1 tbsp capers • small handful mint leaves, chopped • splash of olive oil (optional) Method Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Mix the spices with a generous pinch of salt, then coat the lamb in the mix. Heat a large ovenproof frying pan.

Sizzle the lamb, fat-side down, for 5 mins. Flip the lamb, then put the shallots, cut-side down, in the pan. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast for 10 mins for pink lamb,

or 15 mins for medium.

Remove the pan from the oven, then leave to stand for 5 mins.

Meanwhile, put the potatoes on to boil and simmer until just cooked.

Drain, then gently crush with a potato masher.

Add the spring onions and lemon zest, season, then keep warm until ready to serve.

Remove the lamb and shallots from the pan. Stir the capers, mint, lemon juice and a splash of olive oil (if needed) into the lamb juices to make a dressing. Slice the lamb and separate the shallots into layers. Spoon the potatoes onto warm plates, add slices of lamb and some shallots, then spoon over the dressing.

Yateley School Adult and Community Learning We are an adult and community learning centre located on the campus of Yateley School. Our extensive programme includes Adult Education, Family Learning and Junior Learning.

Tai Chi For Arthritis And Falls Prevention?

This form of Tai Chi comes from The Tai Chi for Health Institute, founded by Dr Paul Lam, in Australia. It is a very safe and gentle form of movement aimed at improving inner strength, flexibility, and confidence to move.

This particular version of Tai Chi is research-proven, and has been approved by the Centre For Disease Control and Prevention, and Arthritis Foundation, in America.

Of course, Tai Chi can’t cure you (that’s impossible), but people in pain need to keep things moving and exercise can be difficult at times. This form of exercise is gentle enough for you to manage any issues/limitations.

It is also not guaranteed to stop you falling over, but you will learn better balance and proprioception, and with practice, you will become much more stable and confident on your feet.

Who is Tai Chi for Arthritis suitable for, and what conditions is it useful for?

• Arthritis sufferers (OA, RA) (hips, knees, backs, necks, shoulders etc) • Fallers, and those afraid of falling, ie Parkinsons Disease • Fibromylagia • Hypermobility/ Ehler’s Danos Syndrome • Respiratory disorders • Cardiac patients • Multiple Sclerosis • Anyone looking to reduce stress – rather like Meditation with Movement • Anybody who is looking for a gentle form of exercise

I’m afraid you can’t just turn up and wave your arms about for an hour. This form of Tai Chi is taught over an initial course of lessons, so that you actually learn the moves properly. Each week will focus on one or two new moves, enabling you to perfect the move and eventually the full Tai Chi sequence.

Once the course is complete you can come to ongoing “pay as you go” classes, which you will be able to enjoy much more having completed the course.

The courses are run by Matt Elgar, a Chartered Physiotherapist based in Bracknell. The classes are being held at the new Great Hollands Pavilion Hall, easily accessible to those coming from Sandhurst, Crowthorne, Bracknell, and surrounding areas. Free parking and a coffee shop onsite.

5 Top tips to… improving your WiFi Signal keep dropping out. Not sure of the best place to put your hub? Read these handy tips from One Touch Services.

1. Location – It plays a big part on how far your WiFi will reach. Try and place it somewhere central to your home, on a waist level or higher shelf and ideally away from large objects such as fridges or freezers, or anything that emits electro-magnetic interference such as a microwave as these will affect the signal and lower its reach.

2. Size – Because with WiFi routers, bigger antennae is (usually) better. Look at your WiFi router, does it have tiny antennae? Have a look and see if they unscrew, if so then larger antennae can be purchased quite cheaply online, giving a much further reach and better performance.

3. Channel – Just like FM radio, wireless routers work on a

frequency, the most common being 2.4Ghz, the problem is there are only 13 permitted channels in the UK and so you get interference from neighbours WiFi routers which impedes the signal from your router. Newer routers typically scan for the most uncongested channel and use that, but older routers will not and so changing the wireless channel can help improve performance.

There are some great guides available online as to how to do this depending on which router you have.

4. Age – How old is your router?

Have you had it for over 5 years?

If so it might be time to replace it. Newer routers have improved WiFi capabilities in both speed and reach, and so can save the frustration of poor WiFi. In some cases Internet service providers

will replace them for free, just call and explain how old it is, and that it’s very slow.

5. Extending – If despite all of the above you still aren’t receiving a good signal throughout your home then a WiFi Extender will help to resolve dead spots.

Extenders come in many different spares and sizes, our recommendation would be Powerline WiFi extenders, as they usually give the best performance increase, and we tend to advise avoiding WiFi boosters as typically they’ll be receiving a poor signal and so that’s what they’ll be sending on. With most Powerline WiFi extenders you can ‘clone’ your WiFi name with the press of 2 buttons (Using WPS or WiFi Protected Setup) thus giving you the same network name throughout your house.

IMATS – The International Makeup Artists Trade Show If you’ve never been to IMATS before, it’s a definite “must see” for makeup lovers of all ages.

Weights For Weight Loss Many people are looking for quick and effective ways to lose weight. There is a lot to be considered when losing weight, and the basics are a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. It is often assumed that cardio workouts are the best for losing weight, however, this is not necessarily true. For losing fat, weight training is an excellent choice of workout.

Calorie Burning The beauty of weight lifting, is that during a workout you burn calories. However, with most workouts, when you finish exercising, you finish fat burning. With weight training, you keep burning those calories for up to 72 hours after you have finished your workout; this is called the after-burn effect.

Bones In addition to calorie burn, weight lifting can also be great news for improving bone density, making the risk of osteoporosis much less than for people who don’t lift. It can also aid in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Body Shape Weight lifting increases your metabolism and burns fat, as well as increasing muscle tone and strength. This encourages your body shape to change more quickly.

You’re not bulking up, you’re improving muscle tone and slimming down. Seeing results will help to keep you motivated, keeping you fitter and healthier for longer.

Protein Building muscle requires protein, so a protein rich diet is great for weight lifters. Fish, eggs, lean meat, nuts and beans are a great option, with 2-3 portions per day, being the ideal. Protein is a great food for keeping you fuller for longer, making it a great choice to prevent that sugar binge in the evening. Diet is vital for optimum results.

Heavy You need to ensure your alignment is correct for lifting, so it may be worth a session or two with a personal trainer to give you some pointers, or watch yourself in front of a mirror to ensure your hips remain tucked and your posture is correct.

Ideally, you want to be lifting heavier weights to see results quickly. ‘Heavy’ is different for everyone. You should be able to manage about 7 or 8 repetitions of each exercise. If you are finding this easy, you need to up your weight, and be aware, you’ll need different weights for different muscle groups for maximum results.

So get started on your weight lifting and watch your body shape and composition improve beyond compare.

Keeping Active As We Age From as young an age as 30, we begin to lose muscle mass, and therefore find stabilising our weight and fitness levels harder.

Every year, this becomes harder, as muscle mass reduces year on year for the rest of our lives. However, we can slow this ageing process through our lifestyle, and the good news is, it’s never too late to start.

Benefits The benefits of keeping active into your later years are plentiful, with perhaps the biggest one being the fact that you will add years to your life. This longevity even persists if you don’t start exercising until your senior years. As well as adding years to your life, you’ll also add life to your years as you will improve your physical and mental well being: increased energy, better focus and easier partaking in every day tasks.

Getting Started Beginning a new exercise regime can be difficult at any stage of life, but the older you get, often the harder the challenge. Often, we can lose confidence and ability as we age, as well as often having to battle with aches and pains or injuries. However, all of these are reasons that we should be exercising. Physical activity can help to alleviate aches and pains, prevent falls, increase confidence and improve body image; all leading to improved well being.

Exercise Plan There are a few main components to focus on when making an exercise plan. We need to ensure we are working on our balance, strength, flexibility and cardio to ensure we are supporting our body in every way possible.

Exercises such as yoga, walking and swimming are great ways to get started, building your strength and speed as you increase your confidence.

It is important to listen to your body when undertaking any new exercise regime, and check with your doctor too if you have any health concerns. But regardless of your fitness level and ability, exercise can improve the quality of your life in so many ways, especially later in life.
