FILM DIRECTOR AND CO-FOUNDER OF GRAPH STUDIO
The presentation, "The Secret to Selling Your Ideas," by a commercial film director focuses on the art of crafting treatments to sell ideas to agencies and clients, especially within the commercial filmmaking industry. The director shares insights on how to approach storytelling in treatments, which are detailed narratives that convey the director s vision for a project before a script or storyboard is finalized. Treatments play a crucial role in gaining client buy-in and securing funding. The director emphasizes the importance of creating emotional connections, using examples like food advertisements and projects for brands like Grab and Petronas, where storytelling and small details (such as music choices and character backstories) were key to presenting a compelling vision. The talk highlights how effective treatments must go beyond basic pitches by showcasing a personal connection to the concept, aligning with client needs, and integrating emotional and visual elements. Structuring treatments with a clear narrative arc, including character depth and thematic references, is essential to build trust and excitement among stakeholders. The director also discusses how to balance storytelling and visuals based on the client s priorities and how detailed treatments can elevate the execution of a project. Ultimately, a well-crafted treatment is seen as a critical tool in gaining client support and delivering impactful commercial content
