VOLUNTEER DINNER A SWEET SUCCESS

Vol. 13, Issue 4 October/November/December 2012

It’s impossible to imagine Folklorama without the tireless work of its dedicated volunteers, and Folklorama recognized more than 175 of them at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Canad Inns Club Regent Casino Hotel on October 4, 2012. The evening was hosted by 2013 Ambassador General Liezel Jacinto, Julie Desrochers and Thyaharajan Visweswaran, and guests were treated to goodies from the candy bar, raffle prizes, and a buffet dinner before the program was underway. A variety of volunteers were honoured, including pavilion coordinators, office and event volunteers, tour guides, President’s tour drivers, committee members, and ambassadors. Of course, Folklorama also relies on thousands of volunteers throughout the year, such as pavilion admissions chairs, bar chairs, cultural display attendants, pavilion set up/tear down teams, guest services attendants, kitchen staff and many others that due to the sheer number, cannot be hosted at one dinner event. However, each year, those volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their roles as a pavilion volunteer are recognized by the Al Malbranck Memorial Outstanding Volunteer Award. Honourary member Joanne Malbranck was on hand to present Carman Infante (Pabellón de España - Spain Pavilion), Isabela Giubega (Romanian Pavilion), Doreen Bain (Romanian Pavilion), Melissa Kwasny (Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion), and Daniel Schink (Russian Pavilion) with the 2012 award.
