LIVESTOCK MARKET UPDATE

Livestock Update As the heavens stayed opened and rain continued to fall, many of the parts of the Central Tablelands saw the wettest July on record. And as discussed in the June report prices in both the beef and lamb industry continue to see unprecedented levels. Cattle: • Again the EYCI gained momentum and surpassed 1000c/kg. Breaking records yet again and higher than anyone would have expected. • Light cattle held firm due to restockers more than ever trying to secure better quality cattle with the favourable season on offer. • Feedlot rates rose to the mid $5/kg mark with the number of cattle on feed staying high. • Beef Exporters again held their strength lifting the cow market up over that $4/kg liveweight. This is being influenced heavily by Americans not being able to go back to work with US abattoirs taking a hit. • Autumn calvers were put to the test and offered early with those being well rewarded. Sheep • Sucker season in some parts of NSW started and prices reflected the better offerings. With both supermarkets and exporters flexing their muscles. • Numbers of heavy lambs began to slowly drop off helping to hold those previously dropping rates to hold firm. • Mutton prices held strong for another big month in the export market.
