Of physicians on the Collège roll as of December 31, 2009, 88% had received their degrees in Canada, 0.5% in the United States, and 10.9% in other countries, or 2,165 doctors from 75 different nations. The average age of doctors in Quebec is 52.4 (50.8 for family physicians and 54 for specialist physicians). Women make up close to 40% of practising physician resources, a number which is holding steady for the moment. The ratio of men to women in medical faculties remains steady, at 64% for women compared with 36% for men. On January 28, 2010, the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) released its report on undergraduate medical education: Future of Medical Education in Canada Collective Vision. Indeed, we told you of this event in the last issue of FMRQ Express. The report is now available on the AFMC Web site. We remind you that the FMRQ took an active part in the work of the committee that drafted the report , on which you were represented by Dr Marie-Andrée Girard, FMRQ treasurer.
