Relaxing and Winning with BBQ

Submitted by Cade Stark and Terry Ard

On behalf of the Canadian Association of Women in Construction, Luana Buratynski from the Toronto branch was a guest speaker for the Community Care for Women and Children’s (Communcare) event. Luana was asked to visit St. Theresa Catholic School in Scarborough and speak to 45 young girls, grades 4-8 about pursuing careers in the construction industry. Commucare is a not-for-profit organization operating in Canada with a vision of helping families, women, youth, and children overcome barriers by transferring basic skills, awareness, and knowledge at an earlier stage in life. One of the ways they do this is by showcasing job opportunities such as a career in construction. A big thank you to Luana for taking the time for such an important task. Hopefully we will see some of these young students working with Flynn one day.

The Kansas City Service Department had a Flynn Family Picnic in September to promote team building in addition to showing appreciation to field staff for all their hard work.

The event included ribs, brisket and pulled pork, everything you need for a proper BBQ. Due to their work on the Facebook data centers the KC team was given the opportunity to prove their BBQ skills in a competition. On September 8th the team entered the competition and took home first place in chicken due to the BBQ skills of sheet metal superintendents Dustin Borchert and Doug Sutton.
