Flynn Paddle Board Team Raises Money for Mental Health

Submitted by Rebekah French

On July 23rd the Flynn Vancouver Paddle Board team raced in the Surrey Hospitals Foundation Champion of the Crescent.

The Champion of the Crescent is British Columbia’s only annual charity stand up paddle board event in support of youth mental health programs. Some of the sponsors included EllisDon, Houle, and Scotiabank. A total of $243,000 was raised through the event for youth mental health programs. There were 42 teams competing in the relay race and Flynn Vancouver took home 3rd overall with some impressive placing in the lead-up races to the final. The team was happy with the results and to support a great cause. We are all looking forward to seeing the team bring home the gold next year.

Global Outreach: Oaxaca School, Mexico

Submitted by Madison Swanson

Flynn Portland was recently approached by Andersen Construction to collaborate with their philanthropic foundation and assist with the construction of two sustainable, classroom buildings in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The school structures will incorporate the shipping containers that were used to transport the building materials for these classrooms from the US to Mexico. Our team will be sending two employees, one of whom is Portland Project Manager Miguel Rueda, to help Andersen and the local workforce complete these buildings by the end of 2022. With the help of a local vendor, Taylor Metal, Flynn was able to procure metal roofing materials to support the project. When completed, the buildings will provide a safe and permanent learning space for the more than 150 children and their families in Oaxaca. Great to see the Flynn branches giving back when they can and helping improve the world around us.
