Learning Outcomes •  Identify cultural elements that affect systems of higher education in Scotland, England, and other countries •  Compare and contrast British and US higher education in terms of their histories, philosophies, funding sources, organizational structures, physical facilities, student populations, staffing patterns, academic programs, student services, current issues, etc. •  Critically examine education abroad as a functional unit within higher education and student affairs •  Clearly identify and effectively address the needs of international and education abroad students and scholars •  Contribute actively and positively to the global understanding of students and the internationalization of higher education

(1) •  Fri May 11: Depart Detroit •  Sat May 12: Arrive Edinburgh •  Sun May 13: Wisconsin in Scotland program visit; Explore Edinburgh •  Mon May 14: Visit Saint Andrew’s University •  Tues May 15: University of Edinburgh; Lindsfarne, Holy Island •  Wed May 16: St. Cloud State Univ – Center for British Studies at Alnwick Castle; Explore Alnwick Castle


Where are We Going? (2) •  Thurs May 17: York St. John’s University •  Fri May 18: Oxford University •  Sat May 19: Explore Oxford •  Sun May 20 : Explore surrounding area (Stonehenge, Bath, Windsor Castle, Cotswalds, etc.) •  Mon May 21: UCAS; University of Gloucestershire

Is financial assistance available? •  Financial aid can be applied toward the cost of the trip


What are the participation requirements? •  Taking the course for credit is very strongly encouraged •  Attendance at all pre-departure sessions (Non-BG students can participate in a on-line version) Jan 13 (9:30), Feb 10 (1:30), Mar 2 (9:30), Apr 13 (1:30) [note times are Eastern time-zone]

•  Completion of all pre-departure readings •  Active participation in all scheduled group activities in the UK •  Positive attitude


How do I sign up? •  Registration form and 1st deposit due December 1, 2011 •  2nd deposit ($250) due Jan 9, 2012 •  $250 of deposit refundable until Feb 1, 2012; after that liable for any expenses HESA has incurred •  Balance ($2300) due late March 2012 •  Apply for/renew your passport NOW
