By GEORGE KUNKE, geoakunke@gmail.com SOUTH BEND – Sixtime U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler (RRidgefield) finished third in the Congressional Dis trict 3 race. With the top two candidates regardless of party advancing to the general election on Nov. 1, Herrera Beutler's term is over effective January 3 as she conceded defeat last Tuesday (Aug. 9). Perhaps Herrera Beut ler's biggest downfall was choosing to vote her con science and vote along with nine House Republicans to vote for President Donald Trump's second impeach ment, which, no doubt, cost her a lot of Republican voter support. Of the 10 House Republicans who voted along with Demo crats in that vote, Herrera Beutler was the seventh to retire or be defeated in a primary.Through last Friday's (Aug. 12) vote count, tak ing first and second in the District 3 race were Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (DWashougal) and Joe Kent (R-Battle Ground). State wide, Gluesenkamp Perez received 31% of the vote, Kent, 22.78%, and Her rera Beutler, 22.29%. Heidi Kent (R-Battle Ground, also hurt Herrera Beutler by grabbing 16% of the vote. In Pacific County, the top four results includ ed Gluesenkamp Perez (32.22%), Herrerea Beutler (23.49%) Kent (20.41%), and St. John (15.37%).

By BRUCE WALKER, Pacific County Assessor SOUTH BEND – The 2022 Change of Value (COV) notices, which show the new assessed values properties to used for the 2023 property taxes, were mailed August 12. The new values are based on actual sales that occurred prior to Jan 1, 2022, and most property owners will see an increase in value due to sale prices over the assessed value in 2021. The COV notices will be on bright yellow postcards or in letter form for multiple parcels. If you do not receive a notice, the assessed value on your property has not changed. If you disagree with your new assessment, you have 30 days to appeal. The appeal deadline this year is Sept. 12. Please con tact this office before this date if you have questions. By law, we (the assessor’s office) can’t change values after this date if the value hasn’t gone through the appeal process. If you want to scream and yell at some one about the new values, please ask to speak to me. The staff is only doing their jobs as prescribed by Wash ington state law. It seems that the hous ing market pressure in the urban areas on the West Coast was still affecting rural Washington in 2021, as people either retire from or commute to these cities. Sales numbers and sale prices in Pacific County increased in 2021 as with the rest of the West Coast. There were 1,300 quali fied sales used to calculate the new values. The me dian sale price of a home (including stick built and manufactured homes) in Pacific County increased from $235,000 in 2020 to $309,000 in 2021. Most ar eas (including commercial properties) had an average sales increase of about 30 to 35 percent; however, there were certain types of prop erties that had significantly higher increases. The most significant increases were among RV/Camping lot properties, which in some areas increased by well over 100 percent, especially on the north end of the Long Beach Peninsula, mobile home parks, RV parks, fuel/ mini-marts had very large increases as well, based on Muchsales. higher sales in the Grayland area from

TheSincerely,Riverside Art Gallery Our Gas Prices To the Editor, I recently read a letter to the Editor from what can only be described as far left ignorance.Ourfuel prices... The idea that our presi dent has nothing to do with current fuel prices; amaz ing lack of understand ing how things work and who does what! We have a "president" that wants prices high and has said so. Biden has gone so far as to say he wants prices at $10 a gallon. He has no bar gaining power as the world considers him a fool. His total war on cli mate change has blinded him to all reality. He has failed to plan on any level for the consequences of his ignorance. He is not a businessman, or able to talk without a script. He does not have the ability to bargain at all. He left 80 billion dollars in weapons to the Taliban on one Russian border and was training and arming a NATO army on another Russian border, using the Ukraine as a pawn. Kennedy was in the same position Putin was in when Russia tried to install a base in Cuba. Remember? Biden is the worst presi dent ... Obama a close second.Remove it or we go to war. Well, Russia removed it; Ukraine did not. Biden's war!! And now he blames the war HE started for all the problems HE caused. When the last president was in office, he was able to bargain and get prices lowered!! This president WANTS prices higher and has said so! We suffered through years of terrorism in every city. Arson and destruction. No terrorism charges for any of those terrorists. But one day of protest at OUR capitol and those people are branded terrorists? This president and all Dems seem to have one goal. To line their pockets at OUR expense. Claiming Biden has no responsibility for our cur rent gas prices is as igno rant of politics as you can get!!!

On August 11, 2022, Marie Helen (Camenzind) Meek passed away peacefully and is now dancing the polka at the Big Swiss Picnic Grounds in the sky. In addition to kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews, Marie leaves behind the love of her life and husband of 68 years, Alfred “Bud” Meek. Marie was born March 30, 1934, in Lebam. Her mother passed away when Marie was a baby. At the time, Clem and Mary Ulrich took her in. Her childhood was spent attending every Swiss picnic, Schwingfest, Oktoberfest, and any Swiss “Doings” that came along. Her Swiss culture was very important to her. Marie was a proud graduate of Willapa Valley High School, and she was a cheerleader there as well. In 1954 Marie married Bud Meek. They purchased a pink house in Menlo, WA, and raised 3 children, Karen, Ron, and Dean. While raising 3 children Marie worked a variety of jobs such as bundling cedar shakes at a mill in Lebam, shucking oysters in South Bend, gathering and selling fir cones, AVON Lady, and picking blackberries. When the family moved to Raymond Marie worked at Sears. And in 1975 she and Bud purchased Bayview Lumber Company in South Bend, WA, and renamed the business, Bud’s Lumber Supply. Marie became the bookkeeper and was also tasked with persuading folks to pay their outstanding bill at Bud’s, a job she didn’t relish. She didn’t shy away from hard work and would do anything to help Bud support and provide for their family. In her retirement years, Marie enjoyed spending time at their float house on the North River. There, Bud and Marie would fish, cut firewood and just watch the peaceful river flow by. They also purchased a motorhome and were snowbirds for a few years until they purchased a small residence in California where they enjoyed the sunshine and warm water. Her golden years were spent with family and friends at their home in Raymond. Marie was most known and famous for her concoction of “Moose Milk ‘’ which she would make and share with family and friends every Christmas Holiday season. Not for the timid……. Marie was preceded in death by her father, Xavier Camenzind, mother, Eliza Camenzind, brothers Louie, Frank, and Albert, and nephews Bobby and Doug Camenzind.Sheissurvived by her husband Alfred “Bud” Meek, daughter Karen (Steve) Clements, son Ron (Vicky) Meek, and son Dean (Cristina) Meek. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tom (Ayesha) Clements and great-grandson Brooks Clements, Rob (Mary) Clements and great-granddaughters Cady and Rory Clements, granddaughter Cassie (Tiffany) Lynn and granddaughter Tori (Chris) Yokom and great-grandkids Solomon, Lincoln, and Vayda Lynn Yokom. Surviving nieces and nephews are, Steve, Mike and Pat Rogers (George and Dorothy Rogers), Louise (Camenzind) Bales, John and Michael Camenzind (Louie and Twyla Camenzind), Gina (Camenzind) Kolhage, Cindy (Camenzind) Stallard, Dawna (Camenzind) Robinson, Lori (Camenzind) Mcguire (Frank and Berniece Camenzind). As per Marie’s wishes, there will be no service. Instead of flowers, Marie asks that memorial donations in her honor be sent to the Lewis Pacific Swiss Society C/O Patti Gwerder, 331 Elk Prairie Road, Raymond, WA 98577
