Delgado sentenced to 28-plus years
By GEORGE KUNKE, geoakunke@gmail.com
SOUTH BEND – Gabriel A. Delgado, 32, of Lebam, was sentenced to approximately 28½ years after a plea agreement was reached for second-degree murder of his brother Andrew J. Delgado. The action took place recently in Pacific County Superior Court. The killing took place Sept. 10 of last year.
Andrew Delgado was shot dead in the front yard at a residence located in the 2400 block of State Route 6. The shooting was precipitated when an altercation started between Delgado and his older brother, Andrew
Delgado, 36, of Raymond, who was shot in the head with a 9mm handgun and killed in the front yard of a home.
Delgado was also charged with assault because Danielle Messer, Andrew Delgado's wife, was also hit by a bullet that grazed her leg fired by Gabriel Delgado.
Gabriel Delgado was originally charged with Murder in the 1st degree, Assault in the 1st degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Responding to the incident were all three local law enforcement agencies.

LIVE The Silent Comedy this Saturday
The Silent Comedy with Dustin Adair is coming to Raymond on Saturday, April 22 at 9:00 p.m. The band will be performing at the Pitchwood Alehouse at 425 3rd in Raymond and are touring in support of the reissuing of their seminal LP Enemies Multiply and companion
film I Am Alright.
The Silent Comedy crafts rough-hewn, expansive American rock & roll. Through grit and passion, brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman grew their band, selling hundreds of thousands and streaming millions.
Born of a rough patch in the brothers’ personal and professional lives, their 2018 release Enemies Multiply - produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith marked a breakthrough in their sound. Yet it was too personal, too raw, and by the end of recording Joshua found himself struggling with an acute mental health crisis. After a tour of Europe, the band took a hiatus and largely stepped away from music.
For the re-release of Enemies Multiply the brothers decided to lean on their visual storytelling abilities – and their partnership with award-winning director Krista Liney (Justin Bieber, Kris Kristofferson) – to create a companion film titled I Am Alright. The film follows the band’s journey, giving the viewer an unfiltered look at the realities of life as a touring band and dangers of pursuing your dreams at all costs.
Banker, a freshman at RHS, won the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches.
Snodgrass, a junior, tied for first in the shot put with Napavine soph Colin Shield with marks of 41 feet, 1 inch. Snodgrass placed fourth in the discus.
South Bend junior Ferrill Johnson was a runner up in the long jump and placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and triple jump.
The Bears finished second in the 400 relay with Johnson, Liam Parkins, Trevor Toepelt and Milton.
Neal Heckman was third for RHS in the 3200 meters and fourth in the pole vault.
Kevin Hovis, a sophomore at RHS, placed third in the pole vault.
Raymond's Isaac Schlueter, a sophomore, was fourth in the 400 meters. Parkins, a junior, ended up fifth in the triple jump.
The final teams standings were 1. Napavine (127), 2. Rainier (118), 3. Seagulls (103), 4. Bears (84), 5. Forks (67), 6. Naselle (56), 7. Winlock (49), 8. Mary M. Knight (5).

Mossyrock shuts down Titans; Ravens batter Warriors 16-1
BY GEORGE KUNKE, geoakunke@gmail.com
MENLO – Host Mossyrock shut out Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, 4-0, in baseball last Wednesday. Cooper Young pitched 5 innings, striking out 9 and allowing 2 hits and 4 walks for the winners.
Garrett Keeton pitched 6 innings allowing only 1 hit and 4 runs, while whiffing 10. Walks and errors hurt PWV.
“We dug a hole and added unnecessary pressure on ourselves right from the start,” PWV head coach Kent Smaciarz told the Herald. “But after the first inning circus, Garrett settled in and pitched a really great game.
“We were rusty – hadn't played a game in two weeks, and it looked like it,” Smaciarz said. “Too many errors, and not aggressive enough at the plate. You can't throw the ball around, watch fastballs go down the heart, and leave 10 runners on base and expect to win against good teams like Mossyrock.”
Also for Mossyrock, Young drove in 2 runs for Mossyrock and Keegan Kolb scored twice and hit 2 singles. Easton Kolb scored a run and drove one home and hurled 2 innings,
giving up 1 hit and striking out 4.
The Titans (6-3, 3-0) were scheduled to play at Winlock (2-9) Monday, had a twinbill at Ocosta (3-4, 2-2) yesterday and host Mossyrock (4-2) Saturday at noon. The Vikings get a visit from first-place Ilwaco (9-1, 6-0) for two games Tuesday. Pe Ell-Willapa valley's home league doubleheader versus North Beach from last Tuesday (4/11) was canceled.
Ravens 16, Leschi 1
Raymond-South Bend's bats were smokin' hot during a 16-1 rout of visiting Chief Leschi last Thursday at Cheney Park. Jarrod Gunderson clubbed 3 hits, scored 3 runs and drove in 2 and Jordan Demaray (2 hits) socked home 3 runners and scored twice.
Also for the Ravens (2-7, 1-6), Nolen Miller scored 3 runs, and delivered 2 RBI and belted 2 hits. Skyler Hutson (2 hits) and Kai Heuy both knocked in 2 RBI and Ty Reidinger scored twice.
Led by Reidinger's 4 stolen bases, the Ravens ran at will on the Warriors with 19 stolen bases. Reidinger also pitched
Ravens sweep Lady Fishermen in fastpitch

SOUTH BEND – Raymond-South Bend split a doubleheader with Ocosta and swept a twinbill from Ilwaco in four key Pacific League fastpitch encounters last week.
The Titans swept Ilwaco's Lady Fishermen 6-1 and 6-5 on the road last Thursday.
In the opener, Summer Stigall went the distance 7 innings while striking out 11 batters.
At the plate, Ava Pine, Emma Glazier and Kyndal Koski all stroked 3 hits. Pine drove in 3 runs and Glazier added 2 RBI.
In the second game, Glazier slapped 4 hits and Pine poked 3 hits and drove in 2. Berklee Morley slammed 3 hits and drove in the winning run. Koski was good for 2 hits.
“Ashlee Payne pitched four innings and had two strikeouts and did a good job,” RSB Head Fastpitch Coach Dakota Brooks told the Herald. “Summer Stigall came in to close it up and struck out another two.”
“These girls showed some grit today and played exactly how we knew they could,” Brooks added. “Everyone did their jobs today and it was great. It felt good to get two wins in before spring break.
“In game two, we had two runners on and Kyndal Koski purposely walked; compliment towards her,” Brooks reported. “So, we had bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning with the bases loaded. We've been working on this at practice consistently. Berklee Morley got up there and hit her sister (Raydynn) in.
It was a wholesome moment to see the excitement in their eyes.”
Ilwaco dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the Pacific League.
Ravens, 'Cats Split Ocosta and RSB split a pair of games last Tuesday (April 11) in Westport at Harriet Dorland Memorial Park with the Wildcats taking the opener 5-3 and the Ravens pummeling OHS 18-1 in the nitecap. Kassie Koski, a ninth grader, drove in 3 runs for RSB.
Ocosta hurler Jessie Gilbert K'd 18 Ravens in a distance-going effort seven innings in the circle. Stigall was the losing pitcher, allowing only 2 earned runs and 1 hit in 5 and 1/3 innings. Raymond-South Bend committed 5 errors. Both teams could muster only 2 hits off solid pitching.
RSB 18, OHS 1 Raymond exploded for 18 runs with only 7 hits in the second game that was halted because of the Mercy Rule after 4 innings. The 'Cats committed 11 errors.
Kassie Koski (4 runs, 2 RBI) and Glazier (3 runs, RBI) collected 3 hits apiece. Raydynn Morley (double) and Berklee Morley both drove in 2 runs and scored twice. Pine (RBI) scored 3 times and Kyndal Koski crossed home plate 3 times.
Ashlee Payne pitched well, allowing 1 unearned run and 2 hits in 4 innings with 3 strikeouts. Ocosta is now 7-2 and 4-2 in Pacific League games.
The Ravens, (8-4, 5-1) aren't scheduled until April 27 when they visit winless Chief Leschi for two games.
Soccer Ravens blow up Ilwaco 11-0
BY GEORGE KUNKE, geoakunke@gmail.com
SOUTH BEND – Adam Mora fired in 3 goals and Jose Ramirez netted 2 to lead Raymond-South Bend to an 11-0 pasting of Ilwaco Friday night at home.
“Overall, this is a young team that has the making of a great one,” RSB head coach Joe Keegan told the Herald “We have a couple of seniors and a few juniors; the rest of the squad will be with us for a good few years to come. This time around we have strength in depth, and we are way fitter thanks to coach Deatherage's great conditioning. We are still hoping to get into the playoffs, and we will continue to improve as we progress.”
Also last week, Raymond-South Bend lost matches at

Elma, 5-0, last Wednesday, and at Hoquiam, 2-1, Monday (April 10).
“The game against Hoquiam was tied at 1-1 during regular time, and then we gave away a penalty in overtime to lose on a golden goal,” Keegan said. “We were not up to our usual game against Elma.”
Raymond-South Bend, 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the Evergreen 1A League, has three matches scheduled for this week: at Tenino (5-6, 5-4), tonight, 7 pm; home versus Forks (2-8, 2-8), Friday, 6 pm, and Saturday (noon) at home against La Center (2-8). On Tuesday, the Ravens travel to Centralia (4-6).

the victory, allowing 2 hits and 1 run in3 innings with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
The game was stopped after 3 innings because of the Mercy Rule. Though it wasn't raining, it was decided that the outfield was too wet to play on in the second game, so it was canceled.
The Ravens host North Beach for two games Tuesday and Rainier visits next Wednesday for a single game.
Pacific League Recap
In other Pacific League games last week, Ilwaco swept two games from Chief Leschi (April 11), 17-0 and 10-0; Wednesday, Forks swamped Raymond-South Bend twice 11-1 and 19-7; Naselle dumped Ocosta 9-3; Thursday, R-SB wallopped Chief Leschi 16-1; Montesano got past Ocosta 10-8 in the first game before the Wildcats got their revenge in the nitecap 21-8; Friday, Chief Leschi smoked Evergreen Lutheran 15-5 and Ilwaco plastered Naselle 15-2. The Raymond-South Bend game at Napavine was canceled.
