The Goat Rocks Fire has grown to 1,600 acres and is threatening neighborhoods around Packwood in Lewis County.

Lewis County has their first forest fire in many years in East Lewis County near Packwood. At press time, the fire was only 2 miles from the city. If there was any doubt in your mind that the fires were impacting Lewis County, all you needed to do was step outside to see all the smoke in the air.
Winlock Elementary School has a new principal and he was raised right here in Lewis County. Andy Justice has taken on the role and he is poised to succeed. He attended school in Lewis County, traveled a bit and then came back to the county where he grew up. Now, he is here to help bring stability to the grade school.

Luke 4:16 to 30 speaks of the time early in the ministry of Jesus when He “came to Nazareth, where He was brought up”. As was His custom, “He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book (or scroll) of the prophet Esaias”. As “He had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him”. At first as these words were heard by all, “all bare Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth”, but then the realization set in. Jesus had referred to them as in need of deliverance and as captives. Not only that, but His words implied that they were experiencing some blindness and were in need of recovery. In this bruised condition, Jesus had come to set them free. This reading of Isaiah was one that was familiar to their ears until Jesus brought it close to home as “He began to say unto them, This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears”. For presenting the truth in a way that convicted all hearers, they “rose up, and thrust Him out of the city, and led Him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong. But He passing through the midst of them went His way.”

able to get away from. Even those that have nothing to do with the truths of the Bible worship something or someone. Just as the Word of God is to be the Christians focus, so too are the words of man put on a pedestal, giving them a higher since of importance than that which is written in the law, and spoken of while asking the question, “how readest thou” (Luke 10:26)? Without a correct understanding, without a personal application of the Word that has been presented for the reformation of the heart, there can be no genuine experience that is to renew that which is fallen. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it”? This verse is referencing every heart, there is no partiality, the heart that was given us at birth is that heart mentioned as wicked and deceitful above all things. This is why we as humans have so much love for the animal kingdom, our pets have not the wickedness in their heart as does their master. The Bible is the only book that has been presented that would have us truthfully begin to understand the human heart. As the wicked heart desperately indulges in that which is evil, it longs for that which is good. In the beginning the book of Genesis tells us all which is good brought life to this world. Nothing has changed, for six thousand years the good that was manifest in the creation of this world has been continually speaking to our wicked heart, offering that change that can only be wrought by the One that brought life to this world. All that has been given life was created in six days, but it will take the work of a lifetime to recreate the heart of each human that has grown tired of sin and its destructive influence. The question gets asked, how do we know any of what is presented in the Bible is true? The straight answer is, we don’t. The more we try to explain something that is of faith or which is unseen (Hebrews 11:1), the sillier it all begins to sound. One thing we do know and have fully experienced is the sinfulness of a wicked heart. We know that the character of sin is real, therefore the opposite is true. Ours is to experience God’s grace which cannot be explained, it’s available to each one of us, that we might reflect His righteousness.
To a heart that has been in the atmosphere of truth but has not been in the practice of it, truth becomes a thing that is hard to take when presented in its correct setting. When Jesus said that “no prophet is accepted in his own country”, it was because truth did not make it any further than the sleeve of the adherent. “But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments” (Matthew 23:5). There is something about religion that men gravitate toward, worship is something man seems to just not be

When she lost her husband, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, we all wondered how long she would continue to be on the throne. Queen Elizabeth never wavered, she maintained her role as head of the Royal Family until her passing.Queen Elizabeth was a true Queen, overseeing her country, providing advice and continuing her role for 70 years. We will never see a queen rule for 70 years again, since she was the longest reigning Queen. What we will see is her lasting legacy on a country she ruled with love and respect for so many years. Queen Elizabeth will be missed but her legacy will live on for many generations to come. God bless the Queen!
