THE NEW FOREST A COASTAL HAVEN FOR WINTERING BIRDS

As the temperature drops and the days grow shorter, the coastline of the New Forest National Park becomes a bustling winter home for thousands of birds.

The 26 miles between Milford-on-Sea and Calshot provide a vital coastal refuge thanks to its diverse habitatsincluding mudflats, saltmarsh, shingle beaches, lagoons, and estuaries. These areas provide rich feeding grounds full of shellfish, worms and eelgrass: essential food to help birds recover from long migrations and build up energy for the return journey in spring.

Who’s here?

Brent geese: Around 25,000 of these small, dark geese fly from arctic Siberia to feed and rest here, making up between 10 & 13% of the world’s population, and about 30% of the whole UK population. Curlew, snipe, and lapwing: Some of our ground-nesting birds head to the coast in winter for a holiday, leaving their breeding sites on the New Forest’s heathlands behind.

Black-tailed godwit: Often seen in large flocks at places like Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve and Mount Lake and Sturt Pond where they feed at low tide.

Wigeon: Colourful ducks that arrive in big numbers from Iceland, Scandinavia and Russia to feed in the marshes.

Golden plover: Feeds and rests out on the marshes, but good numbers (200-300) sometimes can be seen on wet farmland fields and often west of Keyhaven Harbour or in flight.

Our coastal wintering birds are vulnerable.

The twice-daily tidal cycle and the fact that many birds can’t feed when it’s dark means that the feeding time-slots are restricted.

Birds are particularly wary of dogs that stray from well-used paths – an off-lead dog on the foreshore can create mass panic, lost feeding or roosting time and a waste of flying energy searching for somewhere safe to land.

When arriving on our shores, birds will often weigh 50% less than when they set off on their migration to the Solent and need time to

recover. During their first weeks here, they need to be completely undisturbed to feed and rest, otherwise they are in chronic danger of starvation.

We can help make a difference by keeping our distance, staying on the main tracks in winter, and causing minimal disturbance. It’s vital that the birds are in tip-top condition so they can cope with bad winter weather and stay strong enough to travel and lay eggs in the spring back in their habitual breeding grounds in Arctic Siberia.

Organisations across the Forest work together to protect endangered species by creating quiet zones around the most sensitive nesting and wintering bird locations.

Ground nesting coastal birds need exactly the same protection as rare forest-dwelling ground nesting birds. Rangers from local organisations volunteer to spend time along the coast, helping visitors to learn more about and protect our nesting and wintering birds. Volunteers are often on hand to direct visitors to new signs in the Hurst Spit Nature Reserve area.

The Lymington and Keyhaven Nature Reserve is a particularly popular spot for waders, such as curlew, oystercatcher and redshank. Brent geese flock in their thousands from their Siberian breeding grounds. The aptly named spoonbills have also been seen more in recent years. It’s important to admire this wildlife from the designated tracks, keep dogs under close control and not let them chase the birds.

It may not seem like much when the birds fly off, but repeated disturbance can exhaust them and mean they don’t survive the migration back to their breeding ground in the spring. newforestnpa.gov.uk

Once an agricultural milking parlor, the historic building has been lovingly transformed into a stunning exhibition space and private event venue.

Passengers will once again be able to enjoy the beautiful North Norfolk countryside in a different light this winter, with a new theme “A Golden Journey” bringing exciting new displays and soundtrack to celebrate the story of the railway’s 50 years of progress since the line was reopened by pioneering volunteers in 1975.

REMBRANDT PAINTING TO GO ON UK TOUR TO PROMOTE ‘MINDFULNESS’

From the grandeur of a Dorset mansion to the serene atmosphere of a Cheshire estate, a Rembrandt masterpiece is about to embark on an art tour with an unusual mission.

The National Trust is inviting visitors to slow down and discover the mental health benefits of engaging with the celebrated painting, Self-portrait wearing a Feathered Bonnet.

The tour begins at Kingston Lacy in Dorset this September and the painting will travel to Cheshire and Warwickshire before returning to its home, Buckland Abbey in Devon.

Several recent studies have shown that exploring art and heritage has the potential to improve people’s mental health.

The benefits can include helping to escape the mental trappings of day-to-day living, reduce stress, foster emotional resilience, and even spark feelings of inspiration and enlightenment.

While the mental health benefits of being in nature are widely known, the National Trust is encouraging people to discover how art and heritage can offer similar restorative effects.

The average museum or gallery visitor spends just eight seconds looking at each artwork.

The Trust is challenging that norm by offering seating and audio guides with meditative prompts that encourage viewers to linger with Rembrandt’s masterpiece.

The painting will be shown with room to allow people to focus on the work on its own, allowing space for uninterrupted contemplation.

“Slow looking is about more than just taking your time,” said Amy Orrock, National Trust curator.

“It’s a way of being present, of noticing the details and the

emotions they generate that might otherwise pass us by. You’re not just seeing – you’re feeling, thinking, connecting.

“This self-portrait is the perfect companion for a slow looking experience. It invites you to look closer, to wonder what Rembrandt was contemplating, and maybe to reflect on your own state of mind.

“One of the major goals of the National Trust’s strategy is to grow people’s access to cultural heritage and this is one way we are exploring that.

“It is a chance for us to understand what visitors enjoy in paintings like this and what information helps them to understand the artwork best.

“And whether a slow looking approach provides a welcome and mindful pause from the constant rush of life.”

The painting itself has a remarkable story.

Once thought to be the work of a follower, it was re-attributed to Rembrandt himself after extensive conservation and scientific analysis in 2013.

It is now recognised as one of the great treasures of the National Trust’s collection.

John Chu, senior national curator for pictures and sculptures, said: “Rembrandt created around 80 self-portraits throughout his career, each giving a different insight into his character.

“In this picture he is really swaggering, hand on hip, wearing a fancy costume and large hat.

AWARD WINNING WINTER CHILDREN’S PROGRAMMES BY POWDER BYRNE

For families who love the mountains, Powder Byrne has long been synonymous with exceptional ski holidays.

Central to their offering is a suite of award-winning children’s winter programmes, designed to combine adventure, learning, and fun with the highest standards of care.

From the youngest explorers taking their first steps in the snow to confident teenagers seeking independence on the slopes, each programme is tailored to the needs and interests of children at every stage of their development.

With decades of experience and a dedicated team of childcare professionals, Powder Byrne ensures that both children and parents can enjoy a holiday that is joyful, safe, and unforgettable.

Private Nanny Service

Powder Byrne’s Private Nanny service offers families a fully personalised childcare experience. From the first phone call, the Client Concierge team works closely with parents to understand their needs and create a bespoke plan. Whether a family requires full-day support or a few hours to relax and recharge, the nannies adapt seamlessly to the family’s rhythm.

Their nanny can accompany young children to the slopes for shared moments on the mountain, or enjoy quiet afternoons in the village, exploring forests or visiting a local farm. Evenings can also be supported, with nannies assisting at family meals or taking younger children

to bed while parents enjoy a moment of calm.

Their goal is not only to care for children but to become a trusted and friendly presence that children look forward to seeing each day. For families travelling between resorts, the nannies can accompany them, ensuring continuity of care and magical experiences throughout the journey.

pb Crèche

For the youngest guests from 4 months, the pb Crèche provides a gentle and joyful introduction to the mountains. Run by expert early years practitioners, the crèche offers a safe and nurturing environment where children can explore, play, and develop confidence in new surroundings. Activities include snow-based games, creative crafts, nature walks, and imaginative play, all designed to support social and emotional growth while sparking curiosity about the alpine world.

The crèche is more than a childcare service. It is a vibrant community where Powder Byrne team members share their passions, from mini football sessions in the snow to short guided walks discovering pine cones and animal tracks. Operating full days, the pb Crèche works in tandem with other children’s programmes, allowing parents and older siblings to ski while

the youngest are cared for by a dedicated team.

Yeti Primer

Yeti Primer is the perfect introduction to skiing for children aged 3-4 years who are ready to begin their mountain journey while still enjoying the comfort of the pb Crèche. Each morning children start in the crèche, play games, and learn to dress independently for the slopes.

Expert local instructors then guide the small group through playful lessons, using songs and games to spark curiosity and build confidence. Throughout the lesson a familiar member of the pb Crèche team remains with them, providing reassurance and support in what can be an exciting but unfamiliar experience.

After skiing, children return for a hearty lunch and spend calm, creative afternoons engaging in activities designed to develop social skills, confidence, and imagination. In the evening, the exclusive Powder Byrne babysitting service allows parents some relaxation time while children are reunited with familiar faces from the day. By

the end of the week, Yeti Primers have developed essential skills and a growing enthusiasm for skiing.

Yeti Club

Designed for children aged 4 to 9, the Yeti Programme combines technical ski instruction with imaginative games, social interaction, and confidence building. The programme begins each day with ski lessons, led by local ski instructors and supported by a dedicated Yeti Assistant who offers praise, encouragement, and reassurance. This child-first approach ensures every skier feels safe, celebrated, and excited to learn.

Lunchtimes take place in a welcoming, familyfriendly mountain restaurant, providing time for conversation, laughter, and bonding with new friends. In the evenings the supervised Yeti Supper is available for children who would prefer an earlier supper and extra time with their new

friends.

The consistent structure across all Powder Byrne resorts ensures that children enjoy familiar routines and a universal grading system allows progress to be tracked seamlessly, even when visiting new destinations. By the end of the week, children leave with medals, fun memories, and a growing love for skiing.

SnoZone

SnoZone is the next stage in a child’s skiing journey, designed for confident red-run skiers aged 10 to 14 who are ready for more challenge, independence, and adventure. Building on the foundations of the Yeti Primer and Yeti programmes, SnoZone combines expert instruction with a sense of freedom, allowing young skiers to explore more of the mountain while developing technical skills and self-confidence.

“For older teenagers seeking independence, adventure, and skill development, Powder Byrne offers three carefully designed programmes”

Each group is led by a qualified instructor and supported by a dedicated SnoZone Manager, ensuring that every day runs smoothly and safely. Mornings are spent on dynamic

lessons across varied terrain, followed by lunch in carefully chosen mountain restaurants and afternoons of more skiing and social time.

Twice weekly, SnoZone Evening Activities offer fun group activities, from pizza nights to ice skating, giving children time to bond while parents enjoy a moment of calm. Families praise SnoZone for the perfect blend of skill development, adventure, and sociable holiday experiences, making it an ideal progression for young skiers ready to take the next step.

Advanced Teen Programmes: Teenage Guiding, Carve to Cruise, and Powder Byrne Ski Academy

For older teenagers seeking independence, adventure, and skill development, Powder Byrne offers three carefully designed programmes. The Powder Byrne Ski Academy, for confident black run 14 to 17-year-olds, offers high-level coaching across a range of alpine disciplines, such as advanced carving, race training and freestyle. The academy combines skill development with a supportive, social environment that encourages confidence and discovery.

The Teenage Guiding Programme for 16 to 19-year-olds focuses on freedom and exploration, allowing teens to ski with peers under the guidance of experienced local instructors. Carve to Cruise blends the best of both, designed for 15 to 19-year-olds comfortable on black runs. It combines technical progression from the Ski Academy with the freedom and adventure of Teenage Guiding. Mornings focus on skill mastery, while afternoons allow teens to apply what they have learned on scenic terrain.

Group activities and carefully chosen mountain restaurants provide opportunities to relax and bond, ensuring a balanced and rewarding experience.

A Legacy of Care and Expertise

Powder Byrne’s children’s programmes are built on over four decades of experience, from the early days of the Yeti Club to a full suite of programmes for teenagers today. Each stage builds on the last, combining expert ski instruction, small group sizes, and high staff–to-child ratios to ensure safety, skill development, and confidence.

Daily feedback, supervised lunches and suppers, and consistent support create an environment where children thrive, and parents can relax. Every programme reflects Powder Byrne’s commitment to creating joyful, safe, and unforgettable mountain experiences. Families leave with more than memories; they take home the reassurance that their children were encouraged, inspired, and supported every step of the way. powderbyrne.com

THE ALGARVE’S QUIET SEASON:

SLOW LIVING AND CREATIVE INDULGENCE AT FOUR SEASONS FAIRWAYS

When the summer crowds retreat and the Algarve settles into its gentler rhythm, a subtler side of Portugal’s southern coast comes alive. Bathed in soft light and stillness, this is a season of space, warmth and indulgence, cherished by locals and sought out by travellers who know the magic of visiting when life slows down. At the heart of Quinta do Lago, Four Seasons Fairways offers the perfect sanctuary from which to experience it all.

Through Autumn and into Winter, the Algarve reveals its quieter charms. The weather softens to a comfortable warmth, perfect for long walks, leisurely afternoons outdoors, and unhurried meals al fresco. Empty beaches stretch for miles, trails wind quietly through pine forests and the sunsets feel endless. With fewer crowds, every moment is easier, calmer, more indulgent.

At Four Seasons Fairways, that rhythm is woven into the very design. The villa-style accommodation balances the privacy of a retreat

with the thoughtful service of a boutique hotel. Spacious, beautifully appointed and complete with private pools or Jacuzzis, each home-fromhome invites you to linger. It’s the kind of place where morning coffee on the terrace feels like a ritual and evenings can be as simple as preparing local produce in your own kitchen or letting someone else do the cooking entirely.

Wellness here is unrushed and deeply restorative. The indoor pool, sauna and serene treatment rooms are made for moments of reset, while yoga, Pilates and fitness classes are there when you crave movement. Nothing hurried, nothing forced. Food takes centre stage in this slower season. At VIVO, breakfast stretches into the day with seasonal fruit, fresh juices and expertly made coffee. Dinner at Amara feels quietly elegant, with refined takes on Portuguese flavours, panoramic views and wines from across the region.

Beyond the resort, dining is a lingering affair, long seafood lunches overlooking the ocean, or wine-soaked evenings that unfold at their

own pace.

This is also the perfect time for discovery. Nearby, Loulé Criativo invites you to step into the world of artisans: weaving palm and cane, crafting ceramics or jewellery, or learning how figs are transformed into delicate sweet and savoury creations. Wine lovers can join the grape harvest at Quinta da Tôr, while cultural explorers can wander the watermills of the Pólo Museológico da Água or the studios of the Palácio Gama Lobo, where creativity is celebrated in all its forms. And for those who prefer the outdoors, there are worldclass golf courses, peaceful boardwalks across the Ria Formosa, and endless coastal paths alive with migrating birds.

This season in the Algarve isn’t about doing more, it’s about feeling more. It’s time to embrace space, breathe deeper and rediscover the pleasure of simple things: a sunset glass of wine, a handmade keepsake, or the quiet luxury of a day lived entirely at your own pace. At Four Seasons Fairways, every detail is designed to let you sink into that rhythm. The Algarve’s quiet season lingers long in memory, an invitation to slow down, savour, and return to what matters most.

Seven nights at Four Seasons Fairways, staying in a two - or three-bed villa or apartment with swimming pool or Jacuzzi ranges from £1180 to £4408 on a self-catering basis, based on travel in 2026. fourseasonsfairways.com; visitalgarve.pt

DISCOVER EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMING ARTS AT BRENTWOOD: Where Passion Meets Opportunity

At Brentwood School, performing arts is more than a cocurricular activity - it’s a vibrant, inclusive community where every student, from the enthusiastic young actor to the gifted musician, can thrive. Whether your child’s passion lies in dance, drama, or music, Brentwood offers a remarkable range of opportunities tailored to all abilities.

As one of only 14 all-Steinway schools in the country, Brentwood boasts exceptional facilities including three dedicated performance spaces, state-of-the-art piano labs, rehearsal rooms, and a professional recording studio. This outstanding infrastructure supports a dynamic arts programme where 40% of students performed publicly during the 2024/25 academic year across 82 concerts, plays, and musicals.

But Brentwood’s performing arts culture is more than just numbers. Senior students mentor younger peers, creating a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that nurtures confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Building on this strong foundation, the school

recently launched an innovative Specialist Music Programme, the only one of its kind offering a truly holistic approach to specialist music education.

Introduced in September 2024, the Specialist Music Programme is designed for exceptional young musicians aiming for professional careers. Students aged 13 to 17 receive personalised coaching, masterclasses with leading musicians, and multiple performance opportunities. To accommodate this intensive training, students reduce their academic subjects by one, allowing full focus on their craft.

Complementing this initiative is the Brentwood International Music Competition, a groundbreaking event attracting talented young musicians worldwide. In its inaugural year, 28 entrants competed, with seven finalists from countries including Bolivia, Ukraine, Brazil, and Britain. The coveted prize was a £60,000 full boarding bursary and place on the Specialist Music Programme, lifechanging support for rising stars.

Beyond music, Brentwood’s performing arts programme fosters leadership and creativity. Senior students direct and produce 20 annual shows, developing essential skills such as empathy, responsibility, and time management. With over 450 students involved in performances schoolwide, the community spirit shines bright.

Brentwood’s commitment to performing arts transforms lives - boosting confidence, wellbeing, and academic success. In fact, students regularly outperform their projected grades by half a grade, inspired by the exhilaration and camaraderie of the stage. Discover how Brentwood can ignite your child’s passion for performing arts and unlock their full potential.

YEAR 7 ADMISSIONS DAY AT

BALLARD SCHOOL

Nestled between the New Forest and the Solent, Ballard School is a place where education is reimagined. As proud winners of Co-Educational School of the Year, Ballard offers more than just outstanding academics –it is a vibrant, nurturing community where every child is known, valued, and inspired.

For families considering Year 7 entry in September 2026, our Admissions Day on Saturday, 15th November 2025 is the perfect way to experience life at Ballard. The day offers a chance to explore our beautiful campus, meet staff and peers, and take part in a range of exciting activities. The day begins with a fun icebreaker, followed by six hands-on activities including DT, music and sport, reflecting the breadth of Ballard’s curriculum and the joy of learning that defines our school.

But what truly sets Admissions Day apart is the atmosphere –welcoming, inclusive, and full of possibility. Pupils are placed in small groups, each led by a dedicated member of staff who guides them through the day, ensuring every child feels supported and confident. We asked some of our Year 8 pupils, who joined via Admissions Day, to share their thoughts of the day:

“I was really nervous walking in, but then I started meeting people

and now we’re really good friends. It was such an amazing day.”

“I knew no one before I came, but I made friends straight away. We even had sleepovers over the summer before starting Year 7!”

“I loved the sport and DT – it was so much fun. Just being at Ballard for the day was really cool.”

“I knew Ballard through fixtures... so when I did the Admissions Day,

it was just like, oh yes, this is a hundred percent the school I want to go to.”

Ballard expands from two classes to four in Year 7, welcoming many new pupils into our community. We are looking for children who demonstrate enthusiasm, kindness and curiosity – those who will embrace our values and the wealth of opportunities on offer. With over 50 co-curricular clubs available each week in Year 7 alone, including riding, costume design, Minimodel UN, F1, jewellery making and lots of sport and music, there is something for everyone. There are many exciting trips too, including residentials, teambuilding and a trip to Harry Potter World as well as plenty of creativity in lessons.

“The opportunities are unbelievable. It is the best school I have ever been to.”

“I love all my classes.”

“I absolutely love it here! One of the best things about Ballard is how inclusive it is. I’ve made a great group of friends and there’s always something exciting happening. You can represent the school at sporting events or participate in musical theatre. Whether you want to perform or work behind the scenes, there’s a place for everyone.”

“The variety of after-school clubs is amazing, with opportunities to try activities you wouldn’t normally do. There’s so much to do!”

“I really appreciate that all pupils have the chance to showcase their talents and try new things. Ballard truly encourages us to explore our interests and develop new skills. I’m so proud to be a part of this fantastic family!”

Our Year 7 Parents couldn’t agree more.

“Ballard is a genuinely magnificent school.”

“At Ballard, every child is a priority. The school’s outstanding facilities in every department provide the best opportunities for exploration and growth. The comprehensive support system ensures that each child can reach their full potential.

Ballard School is not just an educational institution; it’s a place that fosters well-being and

personal growth. I wholeheartedly recommend it.”

And a final word from our pupils on Admissions Day:

“It’s just really fun, take advantage of everything there is. Just come, it’s absolutely amazing and it’s so much fun and it really helps for when you start.

Trust me. It’s worth it.”

To take part in Admissions Day, pupils must be registered by Friday, 31st October 2025. Call Laura, our friendly Registrar, on 01425 626900 or email registrar@ballardschool.co.uk to secure your child’s place. Ballard School – where every child’s journey begins with confidence, curiosity, and care.

Reimagining Learning For The AI Age

IN THE HEART OF CHELSEA AND KENSINGTON, CRESCONOVA LABS IS TRANSFORMING WHAT SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION CAN LOOK LIKE.

As Artificial Intelligence and other technologies reshape our world, the qualities that matter most – creativity, imagination, collaboration, and resilience –become even more powerful when paired with the right tools. At Cresconova Labs, at 47 Redcliffe Gardens, advanced technologies are not ends in themselves but catalysts that spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture future innovators.

Picture a group of children huddled together designing capsules and determined to keep their

“egg-stronaut” safe. They measure angles, calculate force, test materials, and debate design choices, all while racing against the clock to refine their capsules. At launch, the staircase becomes their proving ground. Some eggs land intact, others not, but each outcome sparks laughter, fresh hypotheses, and another round of iteration. What seems like play is actually deep learning in action –strengthened by resilience, teamwork, and inventive thinking.

In another room, students are just as intensely focused, turning fabric remnants into haute couture, more than just an accessory – designed with precision, crafted with a focus on texture and form, creating a one-of-a-kind piece focused on environmental responsibility. Students explore history through textiles, apply geometry in pattern-making, and express individuality through color and form. Beneath the fashion design lies critical thinking, imagination, and a consciousness of sustainability.

From rockets to runways, every activity at Cresconova Labs reflects a multidisciplinary approach, showing children that true innovation lives at the intersections. The tools – resin printers, laser cutters, robotics, AR/VR – are just the beginning; the true outcome is mastery, when knowledge across disciplines converges into creativity. “At Cresconova Labs, creativity is not the opposite of rigor; it is the highest form of it, preparing children not just to consume technology but to create it,” says Christine Braun, Cresconova’s Chief Creative Officer, formerly Director of REEF Makerspace, Harvard University. Cresconova Labs’ vision is clear: to offer the community something truly new – an experience where curiosity meets creativity. Learn more at cresconova.org/labs

BECKENHAM’S BEST KEPT SECRET

This month, we speak to Tom Carter, Head at St Christopher’s The Hall about what makes the prep school such a special place.

St Christopher’s The Hall is part of the St Dunstan’s Education Group, which champions the ethos of “Excellence. Differently.” – what does that phrase mean to you, and how do you see it coming to life here at St Christopher’s?

For me, “Excellence. Differently.” is a powerful phrase. It reminds us that true excellence doesn’t come from a rigid or uniform approach, it comes from recognising that every child is unique. At St Christopher’s, we embrace that individuality. We have high academic standards, of course, but we deliver them in a way that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and confidence. I want our children to feel that learning is exciting and empowering, not simply something to “get through.” For me, that’s what makes excellence different here: it’s deeply personal, and it’s built around unlocking the best in every child.

Just last week, I watched a Year 4 child who struggles with writing stand up in assembly and deliver a beautifully confident speech as part of a drama project. That moment of pride, of excelling in a way that mattered to them, was just as important as any test result. Our role is to give children those opportunities to shine, wherever their talents lie.

Being in the heart of Beckenham, the school is closely woven into the local community. How do you see St Christopher’s contributing to, and benefiting from, its location?

We are very fortunate to be so central in Beckenham. It gives us a wonderful connection to our community. I see St Christopher’s as both contributing to the life of Beckenham and drawing so much from it. We host events, open our doors to families, and build partnerships with local organisations, nurseries, and cultural groups. In turn, our pupils grow up with a strong sense of belonging; they understand they are part of something bigger than themselves. That’s a life lesson as important as anything taught in a classroom.

We actively seek opportunities

for our pupils to engage with and contribute to the community through initiatives such as our St Christopher’s in the Community project. This goes beyond fundraising or collecting donations, it’s about giving time, effort, and energy to causes that matter locally. Children help at local care homes, participate in environmental projects, and run workshops or events for younger pupils and families. These experiences teach them responsibility, empathy, and the value of making a tangible difference.

Every school has its own character and personality. What would you say makes St Christopher’s unique, and how would you like that to evolve under your leadership?

St Christopher’s has a very special personality. It combines the warmth and intimacy of a traditional prep school with the dynamism of being part of a forward-thinking educational group. Parents often tell me how nurturing and family-like our environment feels, and I never want us to lose that. At the same time, we are ambitious for our children. Initiatives like our Horizon Project, where pupils explore character, leadership, sustainability, and life skills, show how we prepare them for the world beyond academics. Under my leadership, I want to strengthen this balance: maintaining the close-knit, caring community that makes us unique, while continuing to innovate and open doors to new opportunities for our pupils.

kindness, respect, resilience, curiosity, and responsibility. These aren’t just words on a poster, they permeate our curriculum, our assemblies, our co-curricular opportunities, and even the way children interact with one another in the playground.

I think about our Year 5 and 6 concert earlier this year. Yes, the pupils showed great skill, but more than that, they demonstrated confidence, teamwork, and creativity. Parents told me afterwards how proud they were not just of their child’s performance, but of how the whole group supported one another.

Parents today look for more than just strong academics – they want schools that nurture individuality and character. How does St Christopher’s balance academic rigour with developing wellrounded, confident children?

Parents are absolutely right, education today must be broader than exam results. At St Christopher’s, we are proud of our academic rigour, but we don’t see it as the whole story. We place equal importance on nurturing individuality and developing character. Through our rich curriculum, music, drama, sport, art, and pastoral care, we give children many different avenues to find their voice and their strengths.

At St Christopher’s, we hold our character values at the heart of everything we do:

That’s the balance we strive for: rigour in the classroom, but also plenty of opportunities for children to explore, express, and grow as people. It’s about creating confident, compassionate, and adaptable young people, children who are not only academically prepared but also ready to thrive in life beyond school. stchristophersthehall.org.uk admissions@ stchristophersthehall.org.uk. Meet the Head

This month, Alex Brewer, Head of Sixth Form at St Dunstan’s College, shares how the school has established itself as one of the nation’s leading independent schools.

St Dunstan’s Sixth Form has been achieving record-breaking A Level results in recent years –what do you feel has driven this success?

Our success comes from the balance we strike between intellectual rigour and personal development. Students benefit from smaller classes, expert teaching, and targeted support, but also from an ethos that encourages them to think boldly, question deeply, and enjoy learning. By fostering independence and resilience alongside academic mastery, we help them to achieve their very best results.

“Students benefit from smaller classes, expert teaching, and targeted support, but also from an ethos that encourages them to think boldly, question deeply, and enjoy learning”

The College’s ethos is “Excellence. Differently.” – how does that philosophy come to life in the Sixth Form experience?

At St Dunstan’s, excellence is never defined by grades alone. “Excellence. Differently.” means combining academic ambition with moral purpose and the

courage to innovate. Our Diploma programme embodies this, ensuring that students grow as thinkers, leaders, and compassionate citizens through strands such as Inspired Minds, True Character, and Global Futures.

How has the Sixth Form transformed in recent years, and what impact has that had on students and outcomes?

The introduction of the St Dunstan’s Diploma has been transformative. It has embedded academic stretch, personal growth, and future readiness into the daily life of every student. As a result, our Sixth Formers leave not only with outstanding results, but also with the skills, confidence, and integrity to thrive at university and beyond.

Beyond exam results, what makes life in the Sixth Form at St Dunstan’s unique compared with other schools in London?

Life here is dynamic and outward-looking. Students lead assemblies, curate festivals, volunteer locally, and engage with the cultural richness of London. They compete nationally, publish in academic journals, and learn from alumni leaders. This combination of intellectual challenge and real-world opportunity makes the experience uniquely vibrant.

Sixth Form is often a bridge between school and university or the world of work – how do you prepare your students for the next step? Global Futures is central to our preparation. From Oxbridge masterclasses to mock interviews, national competitions, and career pieces with employers and universities, students are supported to match ambition with readiness. They also develop practical life skills—from managing finances to leading projects—ensuring they leave us fully equipped for the challenges ahead.

What kind of young people leave the St Dunstan’s Sixth Form, and what do you hope they carry with them from their time here?

Our alumni leave as confident, capable, and compassionate young adults. They carry not only excellent academic results, but also resilience, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose. Above all, we hope they leave with the courage to think independently, act responsibly, and make a meaningful contribution to the world. BOLD, BRILLIANT, UNSTOPPABLE:

How Talbot Heath Girls Are Shaping the Future

At Talbot Heath School, we believe that when girls are free to be themselves, to be bold, they thrive. As an allgirls school, we create an environment where pupils are encouraged to speak up, take risks, and explore their passions— especially in areas where women have been historically underrepresented.

Our results speak volumes. Talbot Heath girls consistently outperform their peers, with GCSE value-added scores that show students achieve three quarters of a grade above their peers in other schools. In STEM subjects, our pupils excel, with many choosing to pursue A-levels in computing, physics, and mathematics—subjects often dominated by boys in coeducational settings.

This confidence and curiosity are nurtured from the very start. Our state-of-the-art STEAM Hub introduces design, computing, and art to pupils from Reception onwards, laying the foundation for creative and analytical thinking. We offer computing all the way to A-level, and our bespoke curriculum fosters emotional literacy, empathy, and resilience— qualities essential for leadership and innovation.

Our “Curious Minds” ethos encourages independent thinking and metacognition, helping girls

understand how they learn best. Mistakes are embraced as part of the journey, and bravery is celebrated—not as fearlessness, but as the courage to try.

The impact is clear. In 2025, Talbot Heath graduates entered fields such as artificial intelligence, games design, and aerospace engineering—breaking barriers and reshaping industries. These young women are not just succeeding; they’re leading.

At Talbot Heath, girls grow into confident, capable individuals ready to challenge ideas and take their place in the world.

We’re proud to be a school where girls flourish—academically, emotionally, and socially—and where the future is being shaped by bold, brilliant young women. talbotheath.org

THE ESSENCE OF AN EDUCATION

Adolescence is a formative, and often vulnerable, stage of life when young people are beginning to question who they are, what they stand for, and how they fit into the world around them. For teenage boys in particular, these years are often marked by pressure – pressure to achieve, to perform, to fit in, and to embody certain stereotypes of masculinity.

The choice of school for your son, therefore, is critical to help shape his character and morals, and to ensure that, when he leaves school, he has the confidence and the humility to take his place in,

and contribute to, society.

Harrow School has a long and impressive history of nurturing generations of young men. Its 326-acre leafy estate in Harrow on the Hill provides a safe and secure environment where boys grow together in a place where the school’s values of Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship permeate everything they do

Head Master, Alastair Land, explains why he believes a values-led education is vital in giving boys a sense of identity and a good moral compass. “Our four values create identity, focus, unity and drive.

They explain what we belong to, what is important to us, what holds us together and why our collective efforts matter.

“In our context, their meanings are replete with much more than their dictionary definitions, just as the word ‘Harrow’ means more than just a school. Outwardly, they give a sense of the distinctive quality of Harrow School and express what we think is important. A school that values courage, honour, humility and fellowship is a school at its best: one deserving of the name ‘Harrow’ and one to which we aspire. It is an unparalleled holistic education.”

Founded in 1572 under a royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I, Harrow soon became one of the greatest schools in the country, attracting pupils from all over the world. All boys board, living together in one of 12 Houses and under the care of a House Master, Assistant House Master, Matron and Tutor. Through the fellowship of the boarding model, boys learn to respect each other and value differences, to be kind and inclusive and ultimately go on to develop a lifetime of friendships.

THE HARROW SCHOOL VALUES

Courage encourages us to innovate and take risks, inspiring change for the better. It means challenging adversity and complacency, making the most of opportunities, putting fear of failure to one side and staying the course, even when it is difficult.

Honour is about doing the right thing, having the highest standards and leading by example. It involves taking responsibility and, ultimately, is what makes us worthy of the trust of others.

“Such a close community enables boys to build binding, constructive relationships that help us all to make a positive contribution,” explains the School’s Director of Pastoral Care, Simon Taylor. “They learn to respect each other and to value their differences; they learn the importance of displaying the behaviours they would like to see in others and they only ask of others what they would be prepared to do themselves.”

With all beaks (the school’s term for teachers) also living on the Hill, the whole day is used productively with groups and societies meeting every day after prep and at weekends. The vast range of activities on offer ensures boys are kept busy and fully immersed in the richness of a Harrow education. Whether they are part of the Harrow Rifle Corps, preparing to address their peers at one of the

Humility asks us to recognise that we are a work in progress and that struggling with our own weaknesses is essential to growth. Humility increases our awareness that talent and achievement alone, however impressive, are not sufficient to succeed as a human being – and that none of us is at the centre of the universe.

Fellowship means building binding, constructive relationships that help us all to make a positive contribution. This is resonant with our belief that the strongest relationships of all are based on faith, hope and love.

80 clubs and societies on a subject about which they are passionate, experiencing the thrill of Harrow football – the School’s version of football – or helping young people through the work of the School’s Shaftesbury Enterprise, boys are encouraged to face everything with Courage, Humility and Honour.

In an age where children are bombarded with conflicting messages – from social media, peer groups and cultural expectations – Harrow believes a consistent set of guiding values helps boys to develop a sense of identity that is authentic rather than reactive, rooted in principles that endure when trends and pressures fade.

“Knowledge is a powerful tool, but combined with a values-led education, schools can help boys uncover the talents, skills and value to be of good influence beyond their school days,” says Mr Land.

AN EDUCATION DESIGNED AROUND THE INDIVIDUAL

Success

doesn’t look the same for every child… and at Clayesmore, that’s the point.

Set in the heart of Dorset, Clayesmore has spent over 130 years helping young people uncover what success means to them. Academic excellence is just one part of a wider educational journey that supports personal growth, confidence and self-belief.

This is a school where every person is known – not just by name, but for who they are. Teachers take time to understand each child’s strengths, challenges and aspirations, creating an environment where individuals are seen, supported and encouraged to thrive.

The journey begins in the Prep School, where a structured and nurturing setting gives younger individuals a strong foundation. Early access to specialist teaching in subjects like art, music, languages and sport sets the tone for a rich and balanced education.

As they move into the Senior School,

they encounter a curriculum that challenges and inspires. From the creative arts and sciences to sport and outdoor education, there’s space for every individual to shine. The LEX enrichment programme and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offer meaningful opportunities to stretch beyond the classroom, helping young people build resilience, leadership and independence.

In the Sixth Form, students choose from a broad selection of A-levels and BTECs, taught in small groups with expert guidance. The end result? Strong exam outcomes, alongside confident, grounded young adults ready to take their next step.

Individual success starts with individual attention, and at Clayesmore, exceptional pastoral care sits at the heart of everything we do. As one parent shared:

“Our daughter arrived reserved and unsure. Two years later, she left with top results, her first-choice university place, a renewed selfconfidence, and friendships that will last a lifetime.”

Set on an expansive and picturesque campus, Clayesmore provides pupils with access to outstanding facilities – including a 25m swimming pool, an astro pitch, a state-of-the-art gym, and purposebuilt laboratories and creative studios. This is a school designed to inspire exploration, giving every individual the space, support and encouragement to discover who they are and all they can become.

If you’re looking for more than results – for a school that recognises your child’s unique potential – Clayesmore is where they thrive.

LAYER WITH CONFIDENCE THIS AUTUMN

Cooler mornings, milder afternoons… layering is your secret to comfort this season. But layering means so much more than staying warm –it’s a great way to add interest and personality to your outfits while taking your wardrobe into the new season.

Jumpers for now

Ease into autumn by layering lighter knits, then turn to chunkier textures as temperatures drop. A merino roll neck will earn its place in your wardrobe right from the start of autumn –luxuriously smooth and so versatile. When the frost really sets in, nothing beats the warmth of a luxury jumper knitted from natural yarns. Stay snug in a patterned lambswool design or layer a wool tank top over your favourite top – an easy look that takes you from day to dinner, especially when you add bold accessories.

Try a gilet

When you need a lightweight layer but don’t want to hide your outfit, a stylish gilet is your go-to. Slip it on over a top, a dress or a light knit and you’ll add instant warmth. With designs in sumptuously soft borg, cosy wool and luxury textured fabrics, you can create interesting outfits all season long.

Coats with impact

Your coat is your signature – the layer you wear most of all. Styles designed in modern, relaxed shapes layer comfortably over your favourite knits, while the addition of a satin lining ensures it slips effortlessly over your outfit. Why not try something different – a coat in a vibrant colour or a textured fabric like herringbone or bouclé can instantly lift your look.

Layer your way into autumn with exclusive new styles at David Nieper –designed to flatter so you feel your very best, every day.

BURBERRY BRINGS BRITISH NOSTALGIA TO LONDON FASHION WEEK

WITH TEA-TIME TARTAN AND TRENCH COATS

Daniel Lee tapped into retro festival-wear and countryside classics for his spring/summer 2026 collection.

For London Fashion Week, Burberry’s creative director Daniel Lee transformed Perks Field in Kensington Gardens into a dreamy countryside stage for his spring/ summer 2026 show. Beneath a printed grey-blue sky, models walked across a soil-toned runway in looks that remixed Burberry’s heritage with a raveready edge.

Lee leaned heavily on the brand’s icons – trench coats, checks and tailoring – reworking them with festival flair. The opening look set the tone: a double-breasted tartan trench in mustard leather with chunky biker boots, equal parts aristocratic and rugged. Suits were softened in olive pinstripe with python boots; faded denim jackets layered over graphic tees; and a vivid green leather trench came paired with wraparound sunglasses.

Colours ran earthy – khaki, mustard, chocolate, washed denim –punctuated by lime, turquoise and tomato red. The classic Burberry check was no longer discreet lining but full looks in crimson, acid green and sky-blue plaids, styled with biker boots or sandals to strip away formality.

Accessories amplified the eclecticism: scarves trailing like festival flags, slouchy fringed leather bags, python and desert boots, oversized sunglasses. Crochet dresses in ivory and green added hand-crafted softness, deliberately mismatched with sharp coats slung casually over arms.

The trench was endlessly reimagined – cropped in chocolate leather, fringed in sky blue, or washed in denim – often carried rather than worn to suggest layering and movement. Tailoring felt looser, ties skinny, cuffs spilling past wrists, echoing a banker-turnedfestivalgoer vibe.

Lee’s balancing act is clear: Burberry’s British heritage is its strength, but relevance requires reinvention. His answer is a retro smart-countryside aesthetic – tartan and trench recast with colour, craft and practicality – an adaptable wardrobe bridging city and country, weekday and weekend.

Staged beneath an artificial English sky, the show positioned Burberry’s past as a living archive: pieces to be worn, mixed and dirtied. The front row reflected the mix, with guests from Twiggy to Skepta, Maya Jama to Princess Maria Olympia.

For a house built on weatherproof fabric, this collection offered not just protection from rain but a louche new lease of life for British heritage.

REDEFINING ORAL HEALTH WITH GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY AT DORSET DENTAL CLINIC

For many, the thought of a dental hygienist visit still conjures memories of discomfort. At Dorset Dental Clinic we are changing that.

With nearly two decades of experience and a degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from Portsmouth Dental Academy, Kayley has built her career on delivering care that is precise, comfortable, and centred on long-term oral health. Together with her husband, implant dentist Mr Philip McCauley, she established Dorset Dental Clinic as a bespoke clinic for implant dentistry and hygiene.

One of the clinic’s most exciting innovations is Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) — a pioneering hygiene system that replaces traditional scaling with a gentle but thorough clean. This technology removes plaque, stains, and bacteria with warm airand-water mist. The result is a clean that is kinder to gums, enamel, and sensitive teeth — perfect for both routine care and implant maintenance.

Dorset Dental Clinic is the first clinic in the south to adopt this technology. Kayley is the Swiss dental academy trainer for EMS in the South to help other

practices across the UK implement this technology into their practices.

“Our aim is to go beyond a simple clean,” Kayley explains. “We want patients to enjoy the process, understand their oral health, and leave feeling confident about their smile.”

The clinic’s hygiene team is a group of highly skilled dental therapists and hygienists trained in the latest preventive techniques. They work alongside the implant team using advanced technology such as CBCT imaging and intraoral scanning to deliver tailored care that protects and enhances every smile.

A standard hygiene appointment at Dorset Dental Clinic includes a full Airflow treatment, stain removal, and personalised advice. Every appointment starts with a thorough consultation, ensuring patients know exactly what to expect.

Whether you’re looking after your natural teeth or protecting dental implants, Dorset Dental Clinic offers a hygiene experience that is gentle, effective, and future-focused.

Focus On: Facelifts

With age, the face loses volume and support, so the skin can start to sag particularly around the cheeks, jawline and neck. Sun damage can cause wrinkles and change skin pigmentation.

Face lift surgery removes excess skin whilst tightening the structural architecture beneath, to leave the contours supported and smoother.

Who is it for?

It is most appropriate for adults (typically over the age of 45) with lower facial sagging.

Why get surgery?

A facelift provides a longer term solution for sagging and wrinkled skin. The scars are hidden in the natural folds of the skin around the ear. For many people surgery is explored because they are unhappy with the way their skin is ageing which impacts their self confidence and quality of life.

What are the types of surgery?

A face lift is tailored bespokely to the needs of the individual. Sometimes there is also a need to address the eyelids and/or neck at the same time and/or use combined techniques that include fat transfer to increase volume and injections to relieve muscular tension. Sometimes nonsurgical manoeuvres can delay the need for surgical intervention.

Mr Sadri The Revision Rhinoplasty expert

Revision

Rhinoplasty’s are inherently complex because of the preexisting scar tissue, already altered nasal anatomy and potential breathing problems caused by the initial surgery. Therefore this revision surgery requires an experienced surgeon who is highly skilled due to it’s intricate nature. It often involves tissue grafts from the patients own body to reconstruct the nasal framework. This is the reason some surgeons shy away from revisions. They are complex, and the surgeon revising the nose needs to work with the scar tissue left by the initial rhinoplasty which can distort the nose, thus making the surgery a more challenging one.

“Once he understands exactly what his patient wants to achieve then he plans every one of his surgeries meticulously”

Mr Sadri understands that revision rhinoplasty’s are complex operations for patients, there is a longer recovery period, and there may be patient anxiety due to the primary rhinoplasty not delivering the required results. Mr Sadri believes that it is just as important to understand his patient’s journey thus far as it is to understand what changes they would like made to their nose, and the reasons behind these changes. Surgery is not only the operation itself, the emotional impact of the surgery on the patient needs to be considered prior to operating. However it is not just the surgery itself that is important. Mr Sadri and his team take a personalised approach to the aftercare they offer his patients. Mr Sadri believes that the patients journey starts from the

time the patient enquires about their surgery, through to their consultations, the surgery, and the aftercare. The whole package needs to be a seamless one so that patients can focus on their consultations and their recovery. Mr Sadri enjoys performing Revision Rhinoplasty’s. He states that once he understands exactly what his patient wants to achieve then he plans every one of his surgeries meticulously. He believes that he will always be learning as every nose is different, and embraces

this journey. He also believes that due to the high number of Cleft rhinoplasty’s he performs at Great Ormond Street Hospital as part of his NHS work, he has a better understanding and a lot of experience of complex nasal surgery. amirsadri.com

From punk plaid to ties and sky blue: here are the most wearable trends to come out of London Fashion Week. By Lara Owen

RICHARD QUINN SENT HIS BRIDE DOWN THE RUNWAY IN A BALLOON HEMMED WEDDING DRESS

WEARABLE TRENDS FROM LONDON FASHION WEEK

London Fashion Week wrapped up with a bang, giving us bigger and bolder trends to get our teeth stuck into.

A move away from the bohemian suede and soft silhouettes from last spring/summer, this season honed in on vivid colours, sharp cuts and punk motifs.

Over five brisk days the schedule moved from cavernous show spaces in London’s banking district to candle-lit salons in Mayfair. Big names and independents used the catwalk to test ideas about Britishness, modern workwear and nostalgia.

MODEL JOURDAN DUNN SPORTED HEAD-TO-TOE TARTAN ON THE FRONT ROW AT LONDON FASHION WEEK.

Burberry re-examined its heritage codes with a punkish twist on tartan, Edeline Lee explored capacious and sculptural silhouettes and the usual leader of ‘quiet luxury’ Emilia Wickstead brought bold colour to the runway.

While many shows paraded pieces that felt purely made for the red carpet, certain ideas stood out not as things you could imagine living in.

So, here are the five of the most wearable trends from London Fashion Week to get ahead of the fashion curve.

TWISTED TARTAN

While the rather pared-back form of tartan, black swatch, trended last season, this season it seems Nineties grunge is back, as punk plaid dominated the runways and the street style. At Burberry, famous for its heritage tartan, creative director Daniel Lee leaned into it to the prim-come-punk aesthetic. Swing coats,

trench dresses and mini skirts appeared in acid-green and crimson tartans. It felt like a remix of countryside classics and festivalready attire – all, of course, remaining unmistakably British. Tartan and check is a surprisingly easy print to style. Impactful without being overwhelming, tartan can take centre stage as a statement piece or be styled in a playful clash of patterns Sport it in a heavy wool skirt with a chunky knit and leather accents to stave off any preppyness, or in a shirt or jacket with wide-leg trousers, heeled boots and fine jewellery for a smarter look.

SUITS WITH TIES

Oversized tailoring has been a steady trend for the past few seasons, but this year designers pushed this masculine tailoring trend further, as ties were cropping up on and off the runway. No longer a mere office accessory, ties appeared knotted loosely over shirts, tucked under waistcoats or hanging undone from blazers. The trend seems to be inspired by Eighties Wall Street. It wasn’t just on the catwalks either. Spotted among street-style and front row, celebs from Emma Willis to Twiggy used ties to punctuate their tailored ensembles – turning boardroom conformity into insouciant cool. To style the trend, start off with an oversized blazer and wide-leg, tailored trousers – the more relaxed the silhouette, the less you’ll actually look like you’re going to work.

belt to bring back a feminine frame and finish with a slimline shirt and tie.

FRINGE

Noticeable last season, but affirmed this year, was fringe. Usually associated with the Seventies or cowboy westerns, this year, the frenetic trim had a slightly more mature feel, appearing on everything from bags to scarves to sleeves and dresses. Love Island host Maya Jama wore a fringed gown to Burberry, showing it’s long past its casual, bohemian associations. On the runway, Edeline Lee experimented with fringe, forgoing the usual edged hem and opting for headto-toe swathes of fringing that moved like liquid with every step.

If you’re not sold on a full-fringe look just yet, like all trends, it’s best to dip your toe in with some accents. Sturdy leather fringe bags, or ones with lighter fabric tassels, allow you to test the Western saddleback energy, while a fringed hem of a jacket gives an edge to what could otherwise be a safe and demure look.

SKY BLUE

Perhaps next season’s butter yellow, sky blue was peppered throughout runways alongside pops of its bright cobalt counterpart. From Bora Aksu’s frothy, doll-like dresses to Richard Quinn’s opera-

worthy gowns, the shade turned up everywhere at London Fashion Week – a cool, almost nostalgic antidote to winter’s heavier tones. Designers used sky blue to soften sharp silhouettes, to make lace, satin and tailoring feel lighter, and to nod to a very British spring sky. On the catwalks it ranged from powdery pastels trimmed with white lace to grunge leather trench coats. Sky blue works surprisingly well as a neutral and paired with last year’s colour of the season: burgundy – the two are a match made in heaven. For a relaxed look, pair a sky blue knit with a brown suede jacket, ecru jeans and silver jewellery – the shade works well with both warm and cool neutrals.

For a dressier look, wear a baby blue dress with navy tailoring and pops of red through accessories or your make-up to elevate the subtle shade.

VOLUMINOUS HEMS

Bubble hems certainly had their moment this summer, but it seems the voluminous hem isn’t going anywhere, judging by the London Fashion Week runways. Designers such as Edeline Lee and Patrick McDowell doubled down on drama with skirts that billowed like inverted tulips in layers of fabric that swelled and sway as the models walked. On the catwalk, the look ranged from Richard Quinn’s full-skirted bridal look to Patrick McDowell’s hybrid trench-coat skirt with a Dior ‘New Look’ silhouette. To style this powerful silhouette, the trick is to let it do the talking. Try an A-line midi or maxi skirt paired with a fitted knit to balance the volume. If you want to indulge more in the trend, opt for a drop-waist bubble hem skirt with a fitted high-necked bodice and slim boots to draw the eye to the skirt, while keeping the rest of the silhouette plain and streamlined.

DENTAL

IMPLANT EXPERT IN DORSET

Mr Philip McCauley, originally from Northern Ireland, runs a leading dental clinic in central Dorset, with a specialist focus on dental implant placement and restoration.

With close to 8,000 implants placed over his career, he brings a wealth of expertise in treating anything from a single missing tooth to full-mouth reconstructions. Mr McCauley’s career began with valuable experience in the Oral and Maxillofacial department at Poole Hospital in 2000. Following this, he self-funded advanced private training in dental implantology, which laid the foundation for his successful career in the field.

He went on to work at South Coast Dental Specialists, a respected referral centre along the South Coast. Building on that experience, Mr McCauley, together with his wife Kayley, established Dorset Dental Clinic from scratch. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinic has placed and restored between 400 and 500 implants annually.

The clinic is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an in-house CBCT scanner and modern intraoral scanners, eliminating the need for traditional messy impressions.

Prospective patients are invited to a free consultation with one of the clinic’s highly trained

dental implant nurses, where all treatment options are clearly explained.

Those wishing to proceed are booked in for a comprehensive assessment with Mr McCauley, which includes a CBCT scan and the creation of a detailed written treatment plan during the same visit.

All treatment costs and timelines are clearly outlined and agreed upon before any work begins. Mr McCauley is committed to providing tailored financial and scheduling options to ensure every patient feels comfortable and informed throughout their journey.

The in-house team is highly skilled in all aspects of implant care and maintenance, and patients are encouraged to maintain their oral health through regular visits to the clinic’s dedicated dental hygienists.

While the clinic specialises exclusively in implant dentistry, general dental services are referred to trusted practitioners outside the practice.

EMILIA WICKSTEAD

Royal favourite Emilia Wickstead trades demure daywear for bold colour and balloon hems.

The Princess of Wales’ go-to designer swapped minimalism for maximalism while Anna Wintour sat front row.

Ex-Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was among those to take her seat at Emilia Wickstead’s spring/summer 2026 show, her presence a sign of the designer’s increasingly assured place in the British fashion calendar.

Known for dressing the Princess of Wales in pared back but striking designs – this season marked a shift for Wickstead: still recognisably her, but exploring more daring cuts and colours.

Inspired by celebrity photographer Robert Mapplethorpe’s muses, Wickstead used the idea of subtle power and controlled exposure as a thread through the collection.

One dress, in saturated cobalt blue, had a soft balloon hem and a high gathered neckline: styles that will continue to trend next season. It moved easily but retained its shape, an example of Wickstead’s interest in balancing fluidity with structure.

“What stood out was a new kind of boldness in Wickstead’s work”

A few looks later came a sharp contrast in neon yellow: a dress with a drop-peplum skirt that skimmed as opposed to cling.

The effect across these pieces was of clothes designed to be worn, not simply looked at – Wickstead’s hallmark formality reframed for women who want confidence as well as refinement.

The same theme carried through separates. A grey tank top and loose pleated trousers, stripped of decoration, acted as a palette cleanser between the bright dresses.

A pink V-neck sweater tucked into a yellow lattice-print skirt was unexpectedly strong; the print could have been whimsical but felt deliberate thanks to the clean cut and solid fabric.

A denim-blue corseted dress with a flaring skirt nodded to workwear but stopped short of costume. Square necklines, visible seams and bare shoulders appeared repeatedly, drawing the eye without relying on overtly sexualised shapes.

Print and pattern were handled with expected restraint. The windowpane check in yellow and red reappeared in several looks – a scarf tied as a head wrap, a bias-cut skirt, a full dress – giving the collection a solid anchor without becoming a gimmick.

Black dresses scattered with small florals evoked Mapplethorpe’s flower studies but kept their distance from literal reference. Even the most revealing look, a lime bustier with a black balloon-hem skirt, was held together by a simple ribbon at the shoulder, a small sign of Wickstead’s instinct for balance and symmetry.

What stood out was a new kind of boldness in Wickstead’s work.

Shoulders and backs are exposed but framed; skirts have volume but not weight; colours are intense but used sparingly.

Like her contemporaries, it seems this season, Wickstead is leaning into maximalism.

You could trace a line from Wickstead’s early made-to-measure dresses to these more sculptural, more confident pieces.

The workmanship was obvious in the clean joins of chiffon to seam, in the neat darting, in the way the fabric

“A few looks later came a sharp contrast in neon yellow: a dress with a drop-peplum skirt that skimmed as opposed to cling”

moved with the models rather than against them.

The setting helped – a marble-tiled room in the designer’s Chelsea showroom with daylight streaming in let the clothes speak for themselves.

The muted sound of shoes on stone underscored the collection’s focus on wearability.

When Anna Wintour rose to leave at the end, the collection had already made its point.

Wickstead is still refining rather than revolutionising, but this was a clear sign she’s ready to step beyond the niche of “ladylike” and into something more relevant.

WINTER WELLBEING

As the days grow shorter and colder, many of us feel the impact, sluggish energy, dry skin, stiff joints, and even the winter blues. It’s a season that calls for extra care for both body and mind. But what if you could step into the colder months feeling nourished, radiant, and resilient? With Regenerative Omegas, you can.

Regenerative Omegas offer a natural, plantbased solution to help you feel supported all winter long. This isn’t just another supplement or food, it’s a sustainable way to give your body the essential fatty acids it craves to stay balanced and energised through the darker months. And now, you have options.

Prefer the ease of a supplement? With just three softgels a day, the Regenerative Omegas softgel delivers all the benefits of omegas, without any fishy burps. Not a fan of capsules?

There’s also a smooth, pourable liquid option, made from pure Ahiflower®, that blends effortlessly into smoothies, soups, and yogurts.

Why Omegas Matter in Winter

Regenerative Omegas products are made with Ahiflower oil, nature’s richest source of omega-3. Essential fatty acids, omega-3, 6, and 9, are important year-round, but in winter they play a critical role. They support skin hydration when cold air dries it out, ease joint stiffness when movement feels harder, and maintain heart and gut health during months when heavy comfort foods are more common.

They also contribute to balanced mood, brain function, and immune defense at a time when colds and seasonal bugs are everywhere.

By supporting a healthy inflammatory response, omegas help your body stay nourished, energised, and resilient through the coldest months so you can look well, move well, and feel well.

A Smarter, Sustainable Choice

Regenerative Omegas are derived from Ahiflower oil, a unique plant grown exclusively in the UK. Each serving provides a full spectrum of omega-3, 6, and 9 in a clean, allergen-free form with no ocean pollutants.

Even better, Ahiflower is cultivated using regenerative farming practices that actively restore soil health and boost biodiversity. That means each bottle supports not only your wellbeing but also the planet’s.

This winter, choose resilience, vitality, and sustainability. Choose Regenerative Omegas because your health deserves the very best. regenerativeomegas.co.uk

AVOIDING BURNOUT WITH THE NEW SEASONAL CYCLE

Burnout, a term officially coined in the 70s by Herbert Freudenberger is characterised by emotional, mental and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged, unmanageable stress which according to YouGov 1 in 3 adults experience.

Our ancestors, the hunter-gatherers that roamed the Earth more than 45,000 years ago, would be at the mercy of the seasons; intensity and productivity peaking in the warmer, summer months and rest and recuperation rising in the colder, winter months. We’ve lost the connection to the seasons that we once knew, meaning burnout becomes an almost inevitable part of modern life, when we’re expected to be “on” all year round, without the natural pauses that once restored us.

Each season can present its own challenge. Summer means for some folk, overcommitting to social events, extra childcare responsibilities, and the general mental load of “making the most” of the sunshine. And in winter, when our bodies physiologically should be slowing down, instead we pile on the pressure, filling our calendars with festivities, plans, and end-of-year demands.

Of course, we can’t simply return to living as our ancestors did. Modern life isn’t built to allow months of rest or long, languid pauses. But what we can do is observe the rhythms of the year, notice where we’re naturally stretched too thin, and begin to take stock. Building in micro-seasons of rest, whether that’s an early night, a weekend without plans, or a daily walk without your phone all can help reintroduce some of the balance we’ve lost.

When it comes to supporting yourself through the rhythms of the year, there’s no better way to do so than by turning to nature itself. The apothecary of the forest, functional fungi have been trusted for centuries as allies for the body and mind. Our Burnout Bundle brings together four medicinal mushrooms to support your seasonal balance. Reishi calms the nervous system and eases stress, Chaga strengthens immunity through the colder months, Cordyceps restores energy when exhaustion sets in, and Lion’s Mane clears brain fog and sharpens focus. bristolfungarium.com

BREAK THE CHAIN

Anew national survey commissioned by Priory has found that 1 in 6 people say someone in their family is currently living with addiction – yet most of those affected haven’t received any professional help.

The findings point to a major unmet need for addiction support across the UK, particularly when it comes to recognising and addressing intergenerational trauma.

Priory’s ‘Break the Chain’ campaign is aiming to raise awareness of intergenerational addiction and encouraging people to seek support before reaching crisis point.

The new data reveals that 15% of people in the UK feel addiction has affected multiple generations of their family, underlining the long-term impact and deep-rooted nature of the issue. For people who have sought support for addiction in the last three years, half, say addiction has affected multiple generations of their family.

The new research follows the latest NHS figures, which show that more adults are now in contact with drug and alcohol treatment services than at any time in over a decade. In 2023/24, 310,863 people in England were receiving support – the highest number recorded since 2009. Recent analysis from Alcohol Health Alliance UK has also suggested that deaths from alcohol were at record high in England.

The new survey of 2,000 UK adults also found that:

• 26% worry about a loved one’s drinking

• 16% worry about a loved one’s drug use

• 17% have sought support for their own addiction in the last three years

• 24% have tried to help a loved one access support for addiction

Dr Niall Campbell, a Priory consultant psychiatrist who provides addiction treatment at Priory Hospital Roehampton, said:

“We’ve seen enquiries for our addiction services increase by almost 40% since 2019, reflecting the growing pressure individuals and families are facing. In response, we’ve developed a range of new services and programmes – from flexible outpatient options to online support tools – offering evidence-based care that supports every aspect of a person’s physical, emotional and mental health”

Priory is the largest provider of mental health, addiction and working-age adult social care services in the UK caring for more than 26,000 people a year across 270 sites. Priory offers a range of addiction services including inpatient and outpatient programmes tailored to each person’s needs.

6 ICONS OF THE WFH ERA

Five years ago, the working week changed forever. Suddenly, our desks were mere steps from our living rooms, and the office just a short stroll from the kitchen. The world of WFH was born, and with it came new demands: spaces that accommodate both professional needs and the comforts of home.

Before this shift, office furniture often felt clinical and sanitised. Today, it has evolved into an expressive element of any design enthusiast’s space. That’s why we’ve curated a list of WFH heroes, pieces that make answering emails and enjoying your environment equally stylish and aesthetic.

Eames Soft Pad Chair by Vitra: Eames, a name that surfaces time and again when discussing the upper echelons of interior design. In these lists alone, we’ve celebrated

their work for its style, its timelessness, and now, its functionality. The Soft Pad Office Chair collection is the pinnacle of working interiors, appearing everywhere from TV screens (just pick any episode of Suits) to today’s home offices. Charles Eames once said, “Recognizing the need is the primary condition of design.” A philosophy embodied perfectly in this Vitra classic.

62 Desk by Gubi:

A piece of mid-century majesty, Greta Grossman is a name long cherished in Scandinavian furniture design. Her 62 Desk, now produced by Gubi, follows the fundamental principles of peak Danish design to the letter: a strong wooden presence, clean lines balanced with rounded forms, and above all, a minimalism that allows it to blend seamlessly with a variety of styles. For a piece that needs to harmonize with the rest of your home’s aesthetic, it’s Gubi’s an ideal option.

SERIES 7 SWIVEL CHAIR BY FRITZ HANSEN:
EAMES SOFT PAD CHAIR BY VITRA
62 DESK BY GUBI

Series 7 Swivel Chair by Fritz Hansen:

To quote an old adage: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Sometimes, it really is as simple as taking one of the most beloved seating solutions in Scandinavian design history and giving it a fresh set of wheels. Arne Jacobsen’s midcentury masterpiece is now under the celebrated stewardship of Fritz Hansen, and it continues to go from strength to strength. The Series 7 swivel chair edition is perfectly poised to be a careful collaboration of comfort and practicality.

The Haller System by USM:

Over 125 years of metal-working history are behind the design story at USM. So to say they’ve seen the world and its ways evolve is a bit of an understatement. If anyone can conceive of a new working reality and accommodate for it, then the Swiss storage giants can. Their flagship Haller collection is the optimal home office space saving solution, partially for its stylish and sleek nature, but most definitely for the level of customisation it offers to suit your every need.

Cavour Desk by Zanotta:

Tab Table Lamp by Flos:

What’s the one thing you want to be when stepping into your working world? (Other than first in line at the coffee machine.) Dynamic. Shaping your office interiors to match that mentality is a key part of staying productive — you want your space to be as sharp and on-the-ball as you are. The Cavour Desk by Zanotta captures that energy with debonair lines and stylish angles, creating a “no Zoom call too long, no Slack message too confusing” kind of atmosphere.

The right lighting is, for our money, the most underrated element of an optimal working space. Numerous studies highlight its ability to boost productivity, improve both mental and physical health, and of course elevate aesthetics. With so many benefits hinging on getting the glow just right, we recommend the Tab task light by Barber & Osgerby. A firm favourite of desk dwellers since its debut nearly 15 years ago, it’s one of those rare lamps that delivers a focused beam of light without ever overwhelming the space around it. chaplins.co.uk

A LIBRARY OF CHARACTER AND CRAFT

The brief for this project was as ambitious as it was unique: to transform an existing curved corridor into a library that followed the radius of the room and complemented the historic character of a country house in the north east of Scotland. The client wanted a refined and timeless space to showcase an extensive book collection, with the atmosphere of warmth, elegance and quiet grandeur. The result was to be a library not only for reading, but also for celebrating the collection itself.

“The curved joinery sits in harmony with the historic interior, displaying the books with grace and continuity”

The central challenge lay in blending new craftsmanship with a historic setting without disrupting the character of the house. The curved design demanded meticulous precision, ensuring that the joinery flowed seamlessly with the architecture. In addition, the project included the design of a secret door hidden within the wall panelling which required complete accuracy and discretion. Achieving the balance between beauty and function was essential, so that the concealed door appeared part of the original room fabric yet operated smoothly and reliably.

The completed library achieves exactly what was intended. The curved joinery sits in harmony with the historic interior, displaying

the books with grace and continuity. High-quality craftsmanship reflects the best of traditional techniques, while the concealed door provides an unexpected touch of theatre. Disguised as a panel of shelving, the door opens when a discreetly placed book is pulled, revealing a fully electric mechanism with timed closing systems.

What sets the project apart is this integration of tradition and innovation. The hidden door leads to the client’s wine cellar, enhancing the character of the library while adding intrigue. It is a feature that embodies the success of the collaboration between client, architect and maker, uniting historic sensitivity with technical mastery.

This library stands as an elegant, memorable space, perfectly at home within its historic setting, and made distinctive by the precision of its craftsmanship and the imagination of its detail. laurencemcintosh.co.uk

HOME INTERIORS TRENDS AUTUMN 2025

As the leaves begin to turn and a crispness fills the air, Autumn 2025 ushers in a new era of home interior trends in the UK. Heading into the season on ufurnish.com, a beautiful blend of comforting familiarity and exciting innovation is emerging, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, individual expression, and colour.

From the much-anticipated Dulux Colour of the Year, a key driver in home interiors, to a renewed love for textured fabrics and natural materials, ufurnish.com explores what will be defining British homes this Autumn and outlines eight key trends shaping the market.

THE DULUX COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2026: “RHYTHM OF BLUES”

At the London launch event, Dulux unveiled its Colour of the Year 2026, “Rhythm of Blues.” Fluid blues are set to lead the way, offering calming effects for homes across the UK. The colour comes to life in three palettes – Slow Swing, Free Grove, and Mellow Flow – each pairing effortlessly with natural wood tones, warm neutrals, and deeper earthy shades. Expect to see this adopted across living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens, bringing harmony and wellbeing into households nationwide.

THE 8 TRENDS DEFINING AUTUMN 2025 INTERIORS:

• Embracing Biophilic Design – Moving beyond houseplants, biophilic design integrates nature into the home through living walls, botanical prints, and raw organic materials, promoting restorative, serene environments.

“Searches for velvet cushions are up 273% year on year, reflecting a strong demand for bouclé sofas, chunky knits, velvet, and woven rugs”

• The Allure of Tactile Textures –Searches for velvet cushions are up 273% year on year, reflecting a strong demand for bouclé sofas, chunky knits, velvet,

and woven rugs, creating luxurious and cosy interiors.

• Sustainable and Ethical Choices –Conscious consumerism drives demand for reclaimed wood, recycled materials, and sustainable textiles. Vintage and antique searches have surged 87% year on year.

• Statement Lighting as Art – Oversized pendants, sculptural fixtures, and designs in rattan, glass, brass, and ceramic are trending as lighting takes centre stage as a form of art.

• The Return of Dark Wood Accents –Walnut, deep oak, and ebonised finishes are resurging, with dark wood searches up 183% in just three months, bringing depth and

“Bedrooms are being transformed into sanctuaries with plush, calming finishes”

luxury to interiors.

• The Comfort of the “Cocooning” Bedroom – With upholstered headboards trending (up 96% year on year), bedrooms are being transformed into sanctuaries with plush, calming finishes.

• The Versatile Home Office Nook – Flexible working keeps home offices relevant, with multifunctional “nooks” emerging as stylish, integrated solutions within living spaces.

• Bathroom Retreats – Bathrooms are evolving into spa-like escapes, with freestanding tubs, rainfall showers, stone, and wood finishes, complemented by biophilic touches and calming palettes.

As the UK enters peak home furnishing season, ufurnish. com predicts continued momentum across these eight trends. Despite an unusually warm summer, consumer searches indicate strong interest in preparing homes for Autumn 2025, signalling significant opportunities for retailers and designers to align with consumer sentiment. ufurnish.com/en-gb

THE PAINT ‘PALETTE’ CLEANSER

Just moved house and want to rescue your eyes from the previous owners’ colour scheme?

According to eco paint brand Victory Colours, opting for a stopgap colour is the way forward.

Victoria Yardley, Founder of Victory Colours, said: “It’s not an official industry term, but stopgap colour is the paint shade you choose before settling on your forever colour. It’s like a palate cleanser for your walls.”

According to Vicky, there are many reasons why homeowners might want to take on the additional job of a stopgap colour, the most obvious being the instant relief a fresh lick of paint brings.

“It’s all about giving homeowners breathing room to avoid making rushed decisions. Stopgap colour allows them to live in the home and see how the light changes in every room, before committing to a final shade”

But according to Vicky, a stopgap colour buys the homeowner time to make a more informed decision about their future interior plans.

And while some might see taking on two paint jobs in a short space of time as a waste of energy and paint, Vicky thinks it will prevent future colour regret.

She said: “It’s all about giving homeowners breathing room to avoid making rushed decisions. Stopgap colour allows them to live in the home and see how the light changes in every room, before committing to a final shade.”

And when it comes to choosing your stopgap colour, Vicky recommends shades that will work in any light and give homeowners a calm canvas around which to build their interior scheme.

Vicky said: “If you want a safe bet, think background music and not the main performance. It should be a shade that supports your style decisions and not dictate them.”

From the Victory palette, she suggests Penally Stone and The World’s Your Oyster, from Noushka Design’s Cornwall Collection, or Bear’s Paw or Woolwinder for a warmer space.

Victory Colours’ range of matt emulsion is available now, priced at £44.95 for 2.5-litre tin.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN: AN ESSENTIAL LUXURY

Across the world of interiors, sustainability has shifted from a talking point to a defining principle of good design. From furniture crafted from reclaimed oak to lighting made using recycled materials, a new kind of luxury is emerging- one grounded in integrity as much as aesthetics.

Still, a tension remains: many sustainable options can still feel like a privilege — something reserved for those with the means or motivation to look beyond the mass-produced mainstream. In reality, the opposite is often true. When we choose well-made pieces designed to last, the investment endures; when we commission designs tailored to our space, we reduce waste and elevate our environment at the same time.

“Sustainability isn’t about compromise,” says Emer Gillespie, founder of Brighton-based B Corp lighting studio Spark & Bell. “It’s about intention — every choice has the potential to elevate a space while reducing impact.”

For those seeking to live, and design, more consciously, there are a few practical considerations worth keeping in mind.

Materials Matter

Choose natural or reclaimed materials that tell the story of their craft. Brass, ceramic, and sustainably sourced wood age gracefully, gaining character over time. Recycled or repurposed materials, meanwhile, introduce new layers of creativity and meaning. The most beautiful interiors are often the most thoughtful, where every surface and fixture has been chosen with care.

More Purpose, Less Waste

The way something is made matters just as much as what it’s made from. Choosing pieces that are handcrafted to order minimises waste and ensures every detail feels intentional- the opposite of disposable design. A stemmed pendant set to the perfect drop length will always look more

elegant than a one-size-fits-all fitting on an adjustable chain.

Demand Transparency

Look for brands and makers who are transparent about their process - those who publish sourcing, carbon footprints, and social practices that are validated by third parties. That transparency signals real commitment, not marketing spin.

Timeless Over Trendy

Longevity is one of the truest markers of sustainable design. Trends change quickly, but a piece with balanced proportions and honest detailing will always feel relevant. Choosing classic forms and finishes ensures a space can evolve without constant replacement.

At its best, sustainable design doesn’t demand sacrifice, it rewards discernment. The luxury isn’t the premium itself; it’s the confidence that your spaces reflect beauty, intention, and stewardship all at once. sparkandbell.com

“The ceiling is fast becoming referred to as the fifth wall”

CEILING STYLE

Homeowners are embracing the ‘fifth wall’ as interest in ceiling décor surges

HA made-to-measure mural is a great option for adding visual impact and dimension to the ceiling.

omeowners across Great Britain and Ireland are raising the DIY stakes, quite literally, as interest in ceiling décor surges, according to new research from family-run wall mural specialists By Haleys.

Using data from Pinterest, they found searches for the term ‘ceiling wallpaper’ have increased 50% over the last year; while searches ‘ceiling décor’ and ‘wallpapered ceiling’ are also on the rise.

Richard Haley, Creative Director of By Haleys, said: “A coat of white paint is so often the go-to for ceilings but now we are starting to see homeowners embrace every inch of surface to express the character of the home.

“The ceiling is fast becoming referred to as the fifth wall and homeowners are starting to treat it in the same way as any other wallspace and making it a key part of their décor.”

By Haleys panoramic designs are incredibly bold and have been created so consumers feel the story behind the design. The Yorkshire-based studio also offers customers the flexibility to choose the exact portion of the mural they desire, ensuring a perfect fit for any ceiling space.

Richard added: “For murals to have a true impact on the ceiling, it’s really important designs are not squashed to fit. Our clients can tell us the dimensions of their ceiling and we will create a mural that perfectly covers the space without being compressed.”

By Haleys’ panoramic murals have been designed to transform interior schemes with their breathtaking artistry. Each is inspired by the serene landscapes of West Yorkshire, where the studio is based, and been designed to bring nature into the home.

BEYOND STORAGE:

ATransforming your wardrobe into a seasonal sanctuary

s we transition into the cooler months, style becomes more layered, tactile and expressive and increasingly, our wardrobes and dressing rooms are following suit. The humble storage space has evolved beyond mere practicality to become a central feature in the design of a home.

On those chilly mornings, your dressing room should feel like a personal retreat, an elegant space that combines beauty, functionality and the warmth of thoughtful design. At Neatsmith, our clients seek more than just storage; they desire a space that reflects their style and enhances their daily rituals.

Inspired by luxury hotels and designer boutiques, today’s dressing rooms are designed to be enjoyed. Clients often ask us to recreate the atmosphere of their favourite spaces, complete with coffee stations, minibars and tailored lighting schemes. Texture, reflection and layout are all considered carefully to deliver a refined, welcoming environment. It’s about more than getting dressed, it’s about creating a space you want to spend time in.

At Neatsmith, we’ve seen a marked rise in demand for glassfronted wardrobes. The internal lighting casts a warm glow across the space, turning storage into a design statement. Compared to traditional solid-door wardrobes, our Reflex glass doors have the added advantage of enhancing the overall sense of space. Its

reflective properties help bounce light throughout the room, making it feel larger, brighter and maximise the space. With their ability to combine function, elegance and visual impact, it’s no surprise that glass-fronted wardrobes have become a defining feature in many modern interiors.

Lighting overall has become one of the most important elements in dressing room design. It’s no longer just practical, it’s atmospheric. By positioning warm LED lighting at the front of each cabinet or storage area it can highlight textures, colours and detail. In rooms without natural light, we often introduce mirrored finishes and soft-glow LEDs to keep the space bright, balanced, and inviting. It’s this careful use of lighting that transforms a practical zone into something luxurious.

What ties all of this together is the bespoke nature of each project. Tailored design allows every inch of a room to be used intelligently, whether working around sloped ceilings, awkward alcoves or specific layout needs. Unlike off-the-shelf furniture, bespoke storage adapts to the architecture and enhances it - creating a space that’s both perfectly fitted and entirely personal.

INTERVIEW WITH CREATIVE DIRECTOR DESARIOT ADEMAJ, FOUNDER OF LUXURY ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN FIRM DADESIGN

Tell us a little about the background of your company.

DADesign is a London-based design studio recognised as a benchmark in high-end luxury architecture and interiors. With additional offices in Europe, our studio has delivered award-winning residential projects and landmark developments across London, Europe, and the Middle East.

The practice is led by Creative Director Desariot Ademaj, who, prior to founding DADesign, worked with some of London’s most prestigious design firms at the forefront of luxury design.

This experience shaped the studio’s philosophy, blending timeless elegance, bespoke craftsmanship, and modern innovation.

At DADesign, every project is a bespoke journey with our clients, from concept through to completion, resulting in highly individual interiors defined by refinement, creativity, and enduring sophistication.

What is your customer process?

Our process begins with listening. We take the time to understand

ambitions, and aesthetic preferences. From there, we translate these insights into a unique design language that reflects both the client and the architecture. We collaborate with leading artisans and craftsmen worldwide to create bespoke furniture, joinery, and decorative details. Every stage, from concept sketches to final installation, is handled with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to uncompromising standards.

Why should property investors appoint DA Design for their property?

seeing clients step into a space that feels both deeply personal and beautifully refined, is incredibly rewarding. I also love the collaborative process, working with world-class artisans to create unique pieces that elevate interiors beyond the expected. Appointing DADesign means securing more than just an interior design service; it means unlocking the full potential of a property in terms of both value and desirability. Our expertise extends beyond design, encompassing knowledge of planning permissions, development strategy, and the optimisation of layouts to increase market appeal and value.

We also work closely with trusted European manufacturers and artisans to deliver exceptional joinery, furniture, and finishes of the highest quality, often achieving a level of refinement and quality that exceeds what an initial client budget would have allowed for.

By combining deep market knowledge with a flair for refined luxury, we help property investors maximise the potential of their assets, while also creating homes that appeal to discerning buyers and end users.

What aspect of your work do you most enjoy?

What I enjoy most is the transformation, taking an empty shell or dated property and envisioning something extraordinary. The journey from concept to reality,

REFINED PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Elevated Care. Quiet Presence. Thoughtfully Tailored Service.

In London, the most beautiful homes often stand quietly behind their doors. Elegant, understated, and filled with character, they are more than just properties—they are part of a family’s story. Yet many of these homes spend long stretches of time unoccupied, waiting for their owners to return. That’s when true care makes all the difference.

Refined Property Management was created for precisely these moments. Founded by Andor Farkas, alongside his wife, combining backgrounds in hospitality, private construction site management, and household organisation, the company was built on one simple belief: exceptional homes deserve exceptional attention.

Our clients are often international homeowners, busy professionals, or families with more than one residence. For them, “checking in” isn’t enough. Their homes need to be managed with foresight—anticipating seasonal changes, overseeing contractors with discretion, and making sure that when the front door opens, everything feels exactly as it should.

Sometimes that means coordinating a refurbishment project and making sure every tradesperson meets the highest standard. Other times it’s about having the car serviced, the wardrobes arranged, or a much-loved pet cared for as though it were our own. It could be a deep clean before the family arrives, or simply ensuring that the heating, lighting, and security are perfectly in order.

What we offer isn’t loud or showy. In fact, the best compliment we hear is that our work often goes unnoticed—because everything simply works. The house is ready, calm, and welcoming. Behind the scenes, however, every detail has been thoughtfully handled.

That is what we mean by elevated care, a quiet presence, and a service tailored not just to a property, but to the people who call it home. refinedpm.co.uk

LIGHTING TRENDS DEFINING HOMES

Lighting has become one of the most important design elements in the home, shaping atmosphere and adding personality to every room. In 2025, the focus is on lighting that feels expressive, with homeowners embracing both statement designs and clever layered schemes that balance practicality with style. James Kendall, Operations Director at KES Lighting & Home, shares the key lighting trends shaping homes this year.

Art Deco Revival

Layered Lighting

The way we use lighting continues to evolve, with layered schemes becoming more important than ever. One central fitting is no longer enough to create atmosphere or meet the demands of modern living. A thoughtful combination of ambient, task and accent lighting ensures rooms feel warm, versatile and comfortable. Table lamps, wall lights and discreet LED strips all contribute to building this depth.

Extending the Glow Outdoors

One of the strongest movements for 2025 is the return of Art Deco glamour. There is a growing appetite for vintage-inspired lighting, particularly fittings that nod to the elegance of the 1920s and 30s. Bold geometry, opulent glass details and brass or gold finishes are defining features. These pieces bring instant character and a timeless sense of luxury to living spaces.

Lighting trends in 2025 are not confined to interiors. Outdoor spaces are being treated as true extensions of the home, with lighting playing a vital role in how they are enjoyed. Discreet wall lights, lantern-style fittings and ground-level LEDs are creating ambience while also improving safety. Warm-toned bulbs and layered schemes ensure gardens, patios and terraces feel inviting long after the sun has gone down. Well-chosen outdoor lighting allows homeowners to extend their living areas and make the most of every season.

Playful and Sculptural Designs

Lighting has moved beyond function to become an integral part of home styling. In 2025, fittings are often doubling up as art pieces, with sculptural pendants and striking wall lights chosen as focal points in a room, sometimes in place of traditional artwork. These designs add interest and presence

“This approach is all about reconnecting interiors with nature, using organic shapes, natural materials and gentle tones “

Biophilic Lighting and the Beauty of Natural Design

One of the most exciting movements for 2025 is the growing focus on biophilic lighting. This approach is all about reconnecting interiors with nature, using organic shapes, natural materials and gentle tones to create spaces that promote calm and wellbeing.

Designs incorporating materials such as rattan, wood, bamboo and recycled glass are proving especially popular. These not only add warmth and texture but also give spaces a sense of authenticity that feels very current. Combined with lightweight forms and a mindful approach to design, biophilic lighting captures the harmony of the outdoors while enhancing the comfort of life indoors.

Enjoy Your Pool Longer: Keeping it Beautiful into Autumn

Just because summer is winding down it doesn’t mean your poolside days have to end. Early autumn is a golden time to enjoy your outdoor space in a cosier way. With a few simple touches, your pool can remain serene, stylish, and a calming retreat well into the cooler months.

Create a Cosy Autumn Setting

Cooler air is perfect for twilight gatherings by the pool. Add warmth with throws on loungers, lanterns or fairy lights for a gentle glow, and autumn-scented candles like cedar or fig. A pergola or garden umbrella with sheer drapes soften breezes and create a snug, inviting corner.

Keep the Water Clear

Falling leaves may add charm to the season, but not to your pool! A quick skim every few days and emptying skimmer baskets helps prevent stains or cloudiness. For less effort, an automatic pool cleaner can do the job for you - some even connect to your smartphone.

Warm Up the Water

A brisk dip can be refreshing, but solar covers work wonders at holding on to warmth between sunny spells. Compact heaters make swimming possible when evenings turn cooler. Even if you’re not in the water daily, keeping it clean and the area tidy ensures your pool remains a relaxing focal point.

Style it for the Season

Autumn is the perfect excuse for small updates: solar lights, floating candles, all-weather rugs, or warm-toned accessories. These touches lift the mood for entertaining - or for enjoying a quiet moment by the water with a hot drink.

Autumn Pool Mindset

Extending your pool season is not just about temperature - it’s about atmosphere. Whether you fancy a sunset swim or prefer to admire the still water with a blanket and a book, your pool has plenty to offer long after summer ends. With a little care and creativity, it stays a place of beauty and relaxation well into the season.

Do a Little Now, Save a Lot Later

A few simple steps today can spare hassle later. Start balancing the pool water for cooler weather - essentially keeping it stable and clean so you don’t end up fighting problems down the linegive pumps and filters a quick check and consider a professional service visit before things get busy.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF A FRONT DOOR

Your Home’s First Impression, Redefined

hether bright and bold or subtle and subdued, your front door’s colour makes a powerful statement. It goes far beyond curb appeal, offering a direct clue to the personality of those inside. Every hue tells a story, here’s how to read yours.

Black

A black front door is the epitome of simple elegance and effortless style. It is the one colour guaranteed never to go out of fashion, providing a timeless anchor for your home’s character. This choice reflects a homeowner who appreciates classic design, sophistication, and understated confidence.

Blue

Grey

A deep charcoal or anthracite grey door is the colour of modern strength. It creates a powerful and dramatic entrance that feels both secure and seriously stylish. This homeowner has a commanding presence and values security, discipline, and sophisticated design.

A friendly light blue door is pure optimism in a paint can. It brings a fresh, positive energy to the front of a home and promises a happy, relaxed atmosphere inside. This choice belongs to a homeowner who is sincere, easy-going, and finds joy in the simple things.

White

Alongside black, white is a truly timeless choice that offers effortless charm and grace. It provides a clean and versatile accent that complements virtually any colour of brick or stonework. Yellow

A yellow front door is a guaranteed dose of sunshine, even on a cloudy morning. It’s a blast of pure optimism and happiness that radiates a cheerful welcome right from the kerb. This choice belongs to a homeowner with a sunny disposition who loves to share their joy with others.

Red

A red front door makes a bold and powerful statement, immediately creating a feeling of warmth and a hospitable welcome. It’s a colour that commands attention from the street, radiating vibrant energy, passion, and excitement. This choice belongs to a homeowner who is outgoing and optimistic, with a bold character that matches the strength of the colour itself.

Pink

Soft pink is the new neutral for the modern home, offering warmth where grey can feel cool. It’s an unexpectedly sophisticated and chic choice that signals a keen eye for contemporary design. This choice signals a homeowner with a sophisticated eye for design and the confidence to set their own trends.

Green

More than any other colour, green signals growth, ambition, and renewal. It’s a balanced and reassuring choice that suggests new beginnings and a fresh outlook on life. This homeowner is likely generous, focused on personal growth, and always improving their home and themselves.

WHAT TO CONSIDER BEYOND COLOUR

Finding the perfect shade involves more than just your personal taste. The right colour must also harmonise with your home’s unique architecture and the overall character of your street. These final considerations are the key to choosing a shade that both looks good and truly feels right.

ARCHITECTURE

A colour should always work in harmony with the architectural style of your home, from traditional cottages to minimalist new builds. Look for inspiration in existing features like your brickwork or window frames to find a complementary shade that creates a cohesive look.

ENVIRONMENT

Consider the overall feel of your street and decide if your goal is to seamlessly blend in or to carve out your own unique space. If making a confident statement is your aim, then a bold, vibrant colour is the most direct and impactful way to showcase your home’s personality.

DIRECTION

The very same paint colour can look dramatically different depending on the quality and direction of the natural light it receives. A north-facing door in cool, indirect light will make a shade appear darker, while a south-facing door in bright sun can make it seem much lighter and more intense. tikkurila.co.uk
