Sandpolo 2025: Where Beach Polo Meets Daring Stunt Riding This July, the golden shores of Sandbanks will once again transform into the UK’s most glamorous beachside arena for Sandpolo 2025, also known as The British beach Polo Championships. The event, now celebrating its 18th year, promises sun-soaked thrills, stylish revelry, and a jaw-dropping equestrianship.

The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, May Morris: Art & Advocacy, which is on loan from the William Morris Society.

Running until 5 October 2025, the exhibition explores the wide-ranging talents of May Morris, the younger daughter of Arts & Crafts designer, William Morris.

The Southampton International Boat Show is returning to the South Coast this September with a new layout, exciting new attractions, and an expanded line-up of exhilarating on and off-water experiences. Many much-loved features will also return, making this the ultimate family day out.

For seasoned sailors, watersports enthusiasts, or families in search of new adventures, the Southampton International Boat Show is a highlight of the boating calendar. You’ll be able to explore over 600 exhibiting brands, enhance your on-the-water skills, and explore hundreds of different types of craft moored at Europe’s largest purpose-built show marina.

This year’s 10-day extravaganza will be held from 19-28 September, with visitors entering via a new main entrance in the city’s Mayflower Park.

However, that’s not the only new aspect of this year’s show. The Southampton International Boat Show 2025 will feature new areas for RIBs and powerboats (The Powerhub), fishing enthusiasts (Angler’s Alley), and for anyone looking to enhance their boating skills, hear from experts, and learn new maritime tips and tricks (The Boating Academy). Visitors can anticipate a range of interesting and informative talks and demonstrations presented by an impressive lineup of speakers who will be announced soon.

There’s also a brand-new hospitality lounge for premium ticket holders. The Waterside Lounge, presented by Cirrus, will offer stunning marina views and an exclusive vantage point to watch all the action on the On The Water stage. It’ll also serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon light bites - making it an ideal retreat to escape from the show crowds.

The Southampton International Boat Show’s impressive purposebuilt marina features on-water attractions, sea trials, plus UK and international debuts. It’s the ‘place to be’ to see new boat launches and explore 300 vessels of all shapes and sizes. From the world’s most prestigious sailing and powerboats to high-end tenders and chase boats, the showcase marina caters for every boating enthusiast’s dream.

Every year, there’s always so much to see and do at the Southampton International Boat Show, included in the entrance price. This year is no different. Here are a few of the acclaimed attractions returning for 2025.

The Try a Boat experience with FlexiSail will once again offer the chance to experience the joys of boating, as visitors take to the water on a range of sailing yachts and motor cruisers.

FlexiSail’s expert team will be on hand to guide novices and practised enthusiasts alike, offering top-tier equipment and ensuring a safe, fun environment for all. You can also have a go at paddleboarding and kayaking with Rockley Watersports on the Watersports Lake or set sail in a dinghy in the marina.

The highly popular Dive Tank will again be brought to the show this year by scuba specialists, Andark. Complete beginners can experience diving for the first time under expert guidance, while seasoned PADI pros can test the latest kit and enhance their underwater skills.

Also returning are marine accessibility champions, Wetwheels, offering visitors with disabilities exhilarating powerboat rides in a safe, supported and inclusive environment.

Once you’ve tried all the activities included in the ticket price, you’ll deserve to relax with great food and drink in the Quarterdeck Bar & Restaurant, overlooking the marina. From here, you can watch all the action from the On The Water stage, featuring jaw-dropping jet ski stunts from champion Jack Moule, plus other feats of aquatic athleticism, soon to be announced.

The returning Shipyard will keep the festival atmosphere flowing with live music, late-night Saturdays, family-friendly fun, and an array of delicious street food across the 10 days of the show.

BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills will headline The Shipyard stage on Saturday, 20 September, bringing his signature DJ set to wow the crowds for a spectacular waterside party.

On the final Saturday of the show (27 September), fans can enjoy a double bill of iconic tribute acts with Elton John Tribute – Are You Ready For Love, and Flash as Queen.

Charles Mark Duke will channel the Rocket Man himself with a glittering performance of Elton’s greatest hits. Flash, meanwhile, will deliver Freddie Mercury’s powerful vocals and all the legendary hits from Queen.

Meanwhile, those who love to ‘shop ‘til you drop’ are guaranteed a plethora of nautical clothing brands, sunglasses, marine gadgets, and other chandlery in retail areas across the show.

Giant mermaid tails set for Grand Auction at The Italian Villa in aid of Julia’s House

Having paid a fond farewell to locations and landmarks across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP), the striking giant mermaid tails that have been delighting locals and visitors alike, will be heading to a Grand Auction hosted by renowned auctioneer, Charlie Ross, at the beautiful Italian Villa, Compton Acres on 20 June.

It’s set to be a magical event, with the tails on display for the very last time in the beautiful gardens of The Italian Villa. Each a unique artwork, designed by local, national and international artists including Stuart Semple, Laurie King, Lauren Marina and Kizzi Bennet, the striking sculptures are all being sold to raise vital funds for Julia’s House children’s hospice so it can continue its specialist care for the most seriously ill local children and their families.

A mer-mazing addition to a garden, home or office, owning your very own mermaid tail will provide a lasting memory of a fantastic community art event in BCP, with the knowledge that you are also helping a wonderful and much needed local charity.

Auctioneer Charlie Ross has led many high profile auctions for charity including the Elton John Aids Foundation Dinner at Annabel’s and the Amber Lounge Event in Monaco in aid of Caudwell Children. Last year, he conducted over 60 auctions around the world, raising over £150 million.

Just as the trail ended, the most collected sculpture was When the Waves Come by LUCANART and the beautiful Tiffany stained glass inspired The Mermaid’s Tale, designed by Glen Brooks of Studio Glen, was voted the most popular design.

THE DORSET OPERA FESTIVAL

The Dorset Opera Festival takes place annually at the end of July. It involves more than 240 professional musicians and volunteers from all over the world.

In 2024, it celebrated its 50th anniversary. This year marks yet another anniversary – 20 years at its current host venue, Bryanston, the renowned school set amid 400 picturesque acres on the outskirts of Blandford Forum, from where the River Stour meanders towards the sea at Christchurch.

The operas chosen for this anniversary year are all firm favourites: Rigoletto by Verdi featuring Pavarotti’s favourite aria – La Donna è Mobile (All Women are Fickle); and Mascagni’s famous Cavalleria rusticana. If you don’t already know them, listen to the Easter Hymn and the Intermezzo on social media. Lastly, it’s a sad but glorious opera by Puccini: Suor Angelica a poignant story about a young woman who is sent to a monastery having given birth to a child out of wedlock.

Over its five decade history, Dorset Opera has achieved remarkable musical milestones, including one world stage première (of a Donizetti opera no less); eight British stage premières, a world première recording, and, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, a fullscale opera commission. The festival has also staged several rare works, including the British stage première of Puccini’s Turandot in 2007, featuring the new ending by Luciano Berio, (Puccini having died in 1924 before completing his opera).

In 2023, Dorset Opera was nominated in the Rediscovered Opera category at the International Opera Awards in Warsaw for its acclaimed production of Massenet’s Le Roi de

Esteemed critics have recognised the festival as a Massenet specialist, with past productions including Hérodiade, the British stage première of Le Cid, and Le Roi de Lahore – all exemplary works in the French grand opera tradition.

In 2024, the festival received a prestigious honour, becoming one of the few professional opera companies in the UK to be awarded funding from the Laidlaw Opera Trust – an acknowledgment of its excellence and the outstanding quality of its work.

This year brings several changes, firstly a wonderful new addition, the Fine Foundation Lookout. A wildlife observatory that serves as a new gateway to the island, offering spectacular views over the Lagoon, which is home to many different bird species.

The Lookout is set amongst trees and is designed to age gracefully into the natural surroundings and not cause any disturbance to wildlife. Inside the building visitors will find beautifully designed interpretation that provides information about the island’s wildlife. A large, detailed map highlights the best spots to explore the island’s woodlands, wetlands, and stunning beaches.

The Lookout was commissioned as part of the Dorset Wildlife Trust Wild Brownsea project working

in partnership with the National Trust. The project is part funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund with contributions from the National Trust, the Fine Foundation, and Dorset Wildlife Trust supporters. Other project work recently undertaken on Brownsea Island, includes new boardwalks, and improved access to the bird hides.

This year also sees changes to how visitors access the island, unfortunately the Sandbanks jetty started to collapse towards the end of last year and has now been dismantled by a local contractor. Recognising the jetty’s aging condition plans for a new, improved jetty have been submitted and construction work is set to commence soon. This will ensure the future of travel from Sandbanks to Brownsea Island.

Additionally, there is a change in the ferry service for 2025. Greenslade Pleasure Boats will now operate ferries to Brownsea Island from their orange kiosk opposite Tesco Express on Poole Quay. More information can be found on the Brownsea Island or Greenslade Boats websites.

THE NEW FOREST

Youth scheme celebrates ‘midway moment’

The £1.4 million YouCAN scheme has reached its half way point –empowering thousands of young people aged between 11 and 25 to understand and lead climate action within their communities.

YouCAN also supports green skills and jobs, and an outdoor learning programme for young people from all backgrounds to explore urban, rural, coastal and freshwater areas.

The projects within the scheme span 300 square miles across the New Forest, Southampton and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and are led by the New Forest National Park Authority in partnership with the Countryside Education Trust in Beaulieu; Freshwater Habitats Trust; The Parks Foundation in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole; Southampton National Park City project; Theatre for Life, and care and support charity Alabaré.

Highlights of the ‘midway moment’ include junior and young adult ranger sessions, youth volunteering opportunities, a new Young Placemakers Programme and the creation of a youth-led theatre performance inspired by the environment.

Thousands of young people have been connected to nature through walks, talks, conservation tasks and sustainable visits. YouCAN funding has also created new internships, staff roles in conservation and sustainable farming, as well as a Youth Board where 18 to 30-year-olds voluntarily work alongside local organisations to ensure youth voice is represented wherever possible.

YouCAN was made possible thanks to National Lottery Players, through which £1.2 million was secured from a Climate Action Fund grant from The National Lottery Community Fund – the largest community funder in the UK – and a further £264,000 in match funding from partners.

Bringing the Outside In

Theatre for Life’s New Forest folklore-based play, Bringing the Outside In, is a stage performance that will shine a spotlight on young people’s voices on the climate and nature

emergencies, bringing digital storytelling, music, and puppetry to the stage to do so.

It follows a sixth form student in a soul-stirring exploration of fear, hope, and the importance of community, viewed through a local lens and inspired by Southampton’s urban landscape and the New Forest National Park.

Bringing the Outside In will debut on 15 July at MAST Mayflower in Southampton.

New Forest Thrive Festival

New Forest Thrive is a family-friendly festival celebrating the National Park, encouraging nature connection and building towards a more sustainable future.

Highlights will include performances, a mini-beast estate installation, free bike marking, wild play and interactive workshops.

New Forest Thrive will take place on 6 July, at Carvers Recreation Ground, Ringwood. Using sustainable travel options to and from the site is highly encouraged.

The festival is supported by the YouCAN scheme, as well as inclusive cycling charity PEDALL, Ringwood Town Council, local green groups and more.

he King walked with a shepherd’s crook as he toured the Chelsea Flower Show with the Queen and saw a rose named in his honour.

Charles and Camilla indulged their passion for gardening during their annual visit to the world-famous horticultural attraction, chatting to cutting-edge designers and first-timers like David Beckham.

Beckham wore a King’s Rose in his button hole, a new bloom bred by rose producer David Austin in support of the King’s Foundation, when he met the King and his wife outside Charles’ Highgrove popup shop with fellow foundation ambassador Alan Titchmarsh.

The stick sported by the King was similar to ones he has used at country show grounds over the years and he leaned on it as he and the Queen went their separate ways for much of the visit.

When Beckham met Camilla he said: “Your Majesty, it’s so nice to see you.”

As she gestured at his buttonhole, he said: “It’s so beautiful, so beautiful, congratulations.”

In footage of their meeting, Beckham appeared to thank the King for something, after the monarch asked: “You got it, didn’t you?”

He replied: “It was incredibly, thank you, it was very kind.”

Camilla was heard to say “Nice to see you again, glad you got the roses.”

The royal couple stood with the ambassadors as the Highgrove

shopfront was ceremonially unveiled with the opening of a theatrestyle pair of Sanderson-designed curtains, reflecting a partnership between the interior design house and the King’s Foundation.

The couple were given a tour of the shop by Scott Simpson, retail director at the King’s Foundation, who said the King “loved” the floral table cloth used for as part of a display and the “God save the King” tableware set.

Camilla enjoyed her time in the London Square Chelsea Pensioners Garden which will be moved a short distance into an open space used by the former servicemen and women at the end of the four-day flower show.

Archie Ferguson, 87, a former Army cook, who became a pensioner three years, ago quipped “don’t get too comfortable” when the Queen sat down around a table which had cushions that matched the famous scarlet tunics of the elderly service personnel.

The Queen joked as she looked at the group “you’ll blend in, we won’t know you’re here”.

With her brief trip with the King to Canada coming up, she told the group before she left: “I’m in Canada next week for a day and night.”

Earlier, when the Queen saw the King’s Rose creation, she told its creator David Austin its fragrance was “absolutely delicious” and said “It’s so pretty, I can’t wait to get some.”

The Queen was joined by her daughter Laura Lopes, sister Annabel Elliot and the Queen’s Companion the Marchioness of Lansdowne for her visit to the show.

Also among the entourage were the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, David and Rose Hanbury.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Snowdon, Princess Beatrice and Princess Michael of Kent were also among showgoers at the preview evening for the show.

The King and Queen began their visit to the show run by the Royal Horticultural Society by touring the BBC Radio 2 Dog Garden, designed by broadcaster and TV gardener Monty Don with dogs in mind.

Featuring grass areas, a water feature for pets to enjoy and a large tree providing shade, the brick paths are inscribed with the names of beloved pets, including Don’s dog Ned.

The Queen patted Monty’s dog Ned and the royal couple were shown bricks in the path engraved with the names of their own dogs – the King’s Lagotto Romagnolo, Snuff, and the Queen’s adopted Jack Russell terrier Bluebell and her new puppy Moley, along with Beth, another much-loved rescue dog who died last year.

“We have a scruffy lawn,” said the TV gardener, gesturing to the grass, adding “lots of toys and we have a dog” as he looked at his pet.

Following this week’s show, the dog garden will be moved to Battersea Dog & Cats Home, of which Camilla is patron.

PRIVATELY EDUCATED PEOPLE DOMINATE TOP BRITISH JOBS

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions

Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.

Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent.

The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above –went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.

In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.

The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.

Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.

“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust.

“As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

Each and everyone of us is different; this sentence is not rocket science and shouldn’t surprise anyone. Yet when it comes to pathways beyond school, students often seem to think that they should all go off and do the same thing.

Sixth Form to me is about students discovering their passion, developing that interest and exploring the different experiences that can help them fly as individuals beyond school. Whilst schools are restricted by the exam specifications, it is also imperative that schools provide experiences, opportunities and education that reaches beyond the confines of a traditional classroom environment. At RMS we offer students the opportunity to chair boardroom meetings with people from industry, teachers

and like minded students, discussing topics such as ‘Does AI have a place in the world of education?’ and ‘Can food supply ever be globally sustainable?’. Students have ‘Futures’ lessons, covering topics from creating a LinkedIn profile, to women’s health, to disagreeing well. Each week there is ‘Flexitime’ as part of the curriculum where students might have Prefect team meetings, be mentoring younger students, meeting to discuss Oxbridge or Medical applications, attending workshops on US university or degree apprenticeship applications or working individually on ‘going beyond’ tasks to help them explore their subjects beyond the curriculum.

Often schools measure their success through A Level exam results; whilst this is always a nice accolade for any school, to me it is the individual stories of success that we see through each student’s journey beyond school which is the real measure of success. Last year alone we had students going to over 30 different UK universities to study over 30 different courses, we had students going to top art and textiles colleges, music conservatoires, the USA and the Netherlands, degree apprenticeships at the likes of Amazon and KPMG and also some taking GAP years or going straight into the world of work. These outcomes highlight their individual sense of empowerment. Ultimately what RMS does so well, is create a personalised approach to the curriculum. This means that each student, as an individual, can build their own portfolio of experience and evidence which makes them effective and interested learners, and ultimately highly employable in careers that inspire them as the individuals that they are.

GAP YEARS WITH JOHN HALL VENICE

The John Hall Venice Course introduces gap year students to some of the most wonderful aspects of culture. Started in 1965, the programme consists of a week in London, six weeks in Venice, a week in Florence and a week in Rome. The heart of the experience is Venice - to be in the historic and uniquely beautiful city of Venice, living more like a resident than a tourist, is a life-changing experience.

Recent student Eliza had an incredible time, “I really couldn’t recommend the course more highly. Not only are you living in one of the most beautiful cities on earth, but you will look at the world slightly differently after having done it. Alumna Willa described it as “my own version of ‘the Grand Tour’, learning about Titian, Galileo and Puccini started with a total immersion into art, music, sculpture and literature. It began in London’s National Gallery followed by a magical six week stint in Venice, and then a couple of weeks spent hopping from the church campaniles of Florence and Rome.”

“Iwent to prep school in London a long time ago and still have extremely fond memories of my time there. Most of my memories are academic, as that was the focus of prep school life back then. It was classic learning for the love of learning—something that really appealed to me. I was never under pressure about senior school entrance exams, and I never associated prep school with stress. Celebrity fashion experts break down the dos and don’ts of styling dresses and trainers. By Lara Owen

Gone are the days when trainers were just a comfortable option for running errands. Today, they’re a summer staple to pair with jumpsuits, dresses and everything in between.

But there’s a fine line between looking pared-back and cool and accidentally underdressed.

So, fashion experts break down the dos and don’ts of making this trend work – every time.

The key to choosing the right trainers

Summer dressing calls for shoes that feel fresh but are also functional. The best way to nail the look is to focus on clean lines.

“Right now, the trainer trend is all about clean, minimalist silhouettes,” says fashion designer and podcaster Amanda Wakeley OBE. “Any classic white leather style [is] pared-back, elegant and versatile.”

Low-profile shapes are leading the pack, but some subtle height doesn’t hurt. “A slightly chunkier sole or flatform can add a modern edge without overwhelming the look, with the added benefit of elevating you slightly,” says Wakeley. Meanwhile, old-school plimsoles are currently trending. “Retro runners are also having their moment in the sun, adding a sporty sensibility to feminine pieces,” says Wakeley.

Muted shades and soft suede textures are also big this spring/ summer. “This season, it’s all about low-profile, retro-inspired trainers [like] 1970s athletic footwear, reimagined,” says celebrity and personal stylist, Deborah Sheridan-Taylor.

Soft creams, pastels and muted vintage tones complement the lightness of summer fabrics. Sheridan-Taylor suggests butter yellows, light browns and baby blues.

Balancing proportions is essential

Pulling off the trainer-and-dress look isn’t just about what you wear, but about how you wear it. Proportion plays a huge role in getting it right.

“When wearing a more floaty dress, grounding the look with a sleek, structured trainer creates a sense of balance,” explains Wakeley.

works beautifully to create a monochromatic look that’s well-suited for a work setting,” says Sheridan-Taylor.

Accessories can transform the look

The right accessories can take the trainer-and-dress pairing from relaxed to refined in seconds.

“Keep the volume in check – if the dress is voluminous, opt for a low-profile shoe and perhaps layer with a cropped jacket or defined waistline.”

It’s all about creating harmony from contrast, says SheridanTaylor, who lays out a simple style formula: “The longer and looser the dress, the chunkier the trainer.

“As hemlines rise or become more fitted, the trainer should get sleeker and more refined.” Her current go-to is the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66. “There’s something about that criss-cross back design element – it acts like a corset for the ankle. Just that little bit more thought-out and considered.”

Not all dresses work with trainers

While this styling duo can be effortlessly cool, not every dress makes a great match. Some silhouettes are just too structured or formal. “Ultra-tailored or bodycon silhouettes might not sit as harmoniously with the ease of a trainer,” says Wakeley. Looser, more fluid shapes tend to work better, like relaxed shirt dresses, A-line midis or floaty maxis.

Trainers, after all, should never feel like an afterthought. “It’s all about the relationship between the shape of the dress and the style of the shoe,” says Sheridan-Taylor.

“Chunky soles with diaphanous skirts? Yes. Try the Axel Arigato Sphere Runner – a chunky, mixedmaterial trainer that brings instant nonchalance.”

For those testing the waters, she suggests starting tonal.

“An all-black look – a black linen two-piece skirt suit paired with a simple tank, anchored with a retro black trainer like the Adidas Tokyo Low-Top –

“Accessories are key to making this look feel polished,” says Wakeley. “I love layering fine gold jewellery or sculptural earrings for a touch of glamour […] while an oversized pair of sunglasses can easily pull everything together.”

Adding more unique touches – beyond jewellery – can make the outfit entirely your own. “[You can] introduce a vintage, Hermèsinspired, silk scarf tied nonchalantly at the waist or around your bag for a flash of colour,” Sheridan-Taylor suggests.

She says to then pair the colour of the trainer with the colours in the scarf to tie the look together.

Yes, you can make the combo formal

Formal dressing doesn’t always require heels. With the right styling, trainers can feel elevated enough for any occasion.

“Trainers can work beautifully for more dressed-up moments, as long as they’re impeccably clean and styled with intent,” says Wakeley. She recommends luxe fabrics and strong accessories. “A slip dress – perhaps in silk – paired with a sleek leather trainer and elevated with statement earrings or a sharp blazer, can feel fresh and relevant for a summer event.”

Similarly, Sheridan-Taylor says the key to elevating a look lies in the fabric. “A pale yellow floaty silk trouser suit with a suede trainer is perfect,” she says.

“Or retro metallic low-tops styled with a floor-length silk maxi skirt and a crystal-embellished top.”

She points out that trainers are the most important piece of footwear to invest in. “You’ll spend a fortune on heels you wear once and regret all night. Why not invest in elevated trainers you’ll live in?”

“Go big, go bold, and get serious price-per-wear payoff. The key is to commit to the contrast. That’s what makes it cool.”

Prada has agreed to buy Versace in a billion dollar deal – but what does this mean for the fashion house? By Lara Owen

The Prada Group has announced that it has bought its smaller rival, Versace.

Prada acquired the Italian fashion house from Capri Holdings (who also own Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors) for €1.25 billion pending approval, following negotiations that began in February this year.

The purchase comes just a month after Donatella Versace stepped down from her role as creative director at the brand after nearly 30 years.

“We aim to continue Versace’s legacy celebrating and re-interpreting its bold and timeless aesthetic,” said Prada chairman Patrizio Bertelli.

While Prada intend to uphold Versace’s legacy, it’s difficult to see what this will do to Versace’s distinct identity.

Known for it’s maximal bold

glamour, Versace has long been viewed as the more flamboyant Italian label when compared to Prada.

“Prada and Versace do sit on opposite ends of the aesthetic spectrum,” explains global fashion model, Kamile Spann, “one known for its quiet sophistication, the other for its sensuality.”

“But as a model who’s experienced both on the runway, I think there’s incredible potential in that contrast.”

Spann says the differing design ethos can undoubtedly co-exist: “In fact, the tension between minimalism and maximalism could spark a creative evolution,” she says, “a fresh, modern fusion that still respects each house’s identity.”

Upon Donatella Versace’s departure from the label, Dario Vitale was appointed as Versace’s new creative

director – marking the first time the role has left the Versace family.

“I first met Donatella 10 years ago for the first time and I love the passion she brings to everything,” says Spann. “Donatella is undeniably the heart of Versace, her influence is iconic, and her presence is felt in every collection.

“If she stays on creatively remains to be seen, but I believe she’ll continue to shape the brand in some form.

“Even if her role evolves, her vision and legacy are too integral to be removed. She represents continuity and in fashion, that sense of lineage is just as important as reinvention,” she says.

Vitale joined Versace from Prada’s sister brand Miu Miu, where he worked from 2010, most recently serving as design director of ready-to-wear before leaving in January.

1996 Miuccia Prada had solidified the ‘ugly chic’ aesthetic that the fashion house was praised for.

The style initially confused customers by offering blatantly unsexy outfits, but Prada’s original take on the relationship between fashion and desire soon garnered mass mainstream attention.

“Versace’s identity is iconic!” says celebrity stylist and fashion expert Oriona Robb, “you can spot it from a mile away.”

Miu Miu is known as the younger and somewhat more energetic version of Prada’s intellectualised minimalism, meaning Vitale’s years with the label position him well to take up the new post at Versace.

How Versace is seen today is largely down to it’s 2000s rebrand when Donatella took over – following the murder of her brother Gianni Versace in 1997.

In 2000, Jennifer Lopez wore a now iconic green Versace gown to the Grammy Awards, which gained extensive media attention.

The dress was voted the fifth most iconic dress of all time, while Elizabeth Hurley’s black Versace dress, which she wore to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994, was voted most iconic dress of all time, according to a 2008 Daily Telegraph poll.

Both dresses were known for their daring sartorial designs, using cuts and silhouettes that had never been seen on red carpets before.

“Versace’s identity is iconic!” says celebrity stylist and fashion expert Oriona Robb, “you can spot it from a mile away.”

Robb says the key to transforming the brand is to preserve Versace’s essence while giving it room to evolve.

“If done right, this partnership could be the breath of fresh air Versace needs,” says Robb, “better infrastructure, shared resources and access to the kind of innovation Prada excels at.”

Prada has been under the creative control of Miuccia Prada since 1978, the granddaughter of Mario Prada who founded the business in 1913.

As both fashion houses have been under the creation of one fashion icon for so long, Donatella Versace’s departure from her label and this collaboration has left many wondering whether it’s the end of an era for lone designers.

“There does seem to be a shift happening, fashion is becoming more collaborative – more strategic,” says Spann.

“With consolidation, we’re seeing a move toward powerful creative alliances rather than the singular voice of the so-called ‘genius’ designer.

“While there’s something undeniably romantic about the lone visionary, today’s landscape demands both creativity and business acumen,” she says, “I think we’re entering an era where vision is shared, not

Zara is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary with a new video featuring 50 iconic models who have shaped the fashion industry.

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Twiggy, Christy Turlington, Eva Herzigova, Paulina Porizkova and Penelope Tree – to name a few – teamed up with legendary fashion photographer Steven Meisel to shoot for Zara’s birthday campaign.

Throughout the video, the models sing and dance along to the 1977 disco classic ‘I Feel Love’.

Styled by Karl Templer, the models each wear pieces from the label’s 50th anniversary collection, which is centred around the monochrome classicism of tuxedo dressing and its both timeless boundless appeal.

ightweight foundations, BB creams and tinted moisturisers are on the rise as more people are aiming for a natural, ‘no make-up make-up’ aesthetic for day-to-day wear, rather than a full face.

There are now countless options to choose from, but your skin type and texture can be a deciding factor on which one you go for to ensure you get the dewy and glowing finish you desire.

We asked make-up artist Sarah-Jane Froom for a guide on what to look for based on specific skin concerns, as well as product recommendations tailored to each.

Dry skin

According to Froom, whose philosophy centres on enhancing natural beauty with a “less is more” approach, if you have dry skin it’s important to look for hydrating ingredients.

“You should look for products with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or vitamin E, which help retain moisture and prevent your skin from feeling tight,” says Froom.

“They should also look for a dewy or satin finish which helps restore radiance and prevent the skin from looking dull. Dry skin often also benefits from foundations that provide light to medium coverage, which helps even out the skin tone without clinging to dry patches.”

Sensitive skin

“Those with sensitive skin should look for hypoallergenic and fragrance-free foundation as it

reduces the risk of irritation. They should also look for products that are non-comedogenic as they won’t clog pores, especially if sensitive skin is also prone to breakout,” says Froom.

“For sensitive skin, choose a gentle formula that is mineral-based or lightweight, as breathable foundations are kind to sensitive skin.”

Menopausal skin

“As menopausal skin can become drier and thinner, people should look for products with added moisture and ingredients that help support the skin’s elasticity,” says Froom.

“Foundations that are light to medium coverage and can even

out the skin tone without feeling too heavy are ideal. A foundation formula that can provide a soft, radiant finish to combat dullness.”

Rosacea skin

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that mainly affects the face.

“People with this condition should look for products with chamomile, aloe vera, or green tea that help calm irritation and reduce redness. Full coverage should also mask the redness associated with rosacea, you may prefer a foundation with buildable coverage,” Froom advises.

“They should also avoid products with fragrances or harsh chemicals, which can exacerbate rosacea symptoms.”

Acne-prone skin

“Those with acne should choose non-comedogenic foundations and tinted moisturisers that are specifically labelled as noncomedogenic to avoid clogging pores,” Froom says.

“Acne-prone skin often benefits from oil-free products with a matter finish to control shine and prevent breakouts. Heavy foundations can actually worsen acne so look for lightweight

options that offer buildable coverage without feeling too thick.”

Oily skin

“If you have oily skin you should look for foundations with oilabsorbing ingredients such as silica, kaolin clay or salicylic acid,” Froom says.

“A matter finish also helps control shine and keep your complexion looking fresh throughout the day. You should also choose long-lasting, sweat-resistant foundations to keep your makeup in place.”

Combination skin

“Things to look for in foundation if you have combination skin are lightweight products that hydrate the dry areas while controlling oil in the T-Zone,” Froom says.

“Combination skin often requires a foundation that can be built up in specific areas without being cakey. Lastly a satin finish is ideally as it provides a nice balance between matte and dewy, making it ideal for combination skin.

Other skin types

“For other skin concerns such as dry or aging skin, you should always opt for foundations that are nourishing, hydrating and gentle,” says Froom.

“Make sure to look for non-comedogenic, fragrancefree products, and avoid those with harsh chemicals or alcohol, which can irritate delicate or mature skin.”

This much-anticipated 2025 collection includes thirteen handknotted creations which focus on the interplay of light through colour, geometry and form.

‘Light Play’ explores colour in its purest form, the new palette centres around softer shades from the purple spectrum –lilacs, lavenders, heathers and mauves – which sit harmoniously in overlaid pastel colourways or combine with juxtaposing hues to dramatic effect. Whether in geometric or organic shapes, artist Deirdre showcases her expert eye for colour, with stunning results. THE RETURN OF MILLENIAL PINK

Nostalgia is the main ingredient in millennial pink’s revival as it takes over our homes once again.

“Over the past decade, pink trends have never really left. We welcomed the 2020s with the Barbiecore trend, which saw hot pink take centre stage with its bold, unapologetic hue. As we’re now midway into 2025, we’re seeing the reemergence of Millennial Pink. This dusty rose pink hue, popular in the mid-2010s takes us back to the early days of Instagram and when the term ‘Girlboss’ was coined. Its popularity was sealed when ‘Rose Quartz’ was crowned the Pantone Colour of 2016 alongside Serenity (a calming light blue).

It’s no surprise that many of us are yearning for simpler times and we’re looking to colour psychology for that antidote. Pink with all its promises of joy, light-hearted fun is commonly associated with peace, femininity and healing. Millennial pink continues to be influential thanks to social media. The popularity of the Wicked movie and TikTok trends like ‘soft girl era’, ‘clean girl aesthetic’ and ‘demure’ have brought millennial pink back into the spotlight. Its dusty, muted shade makes it easy to pair with other colours like white, grey, beige, light blues, pastel greens and metallics like gold and brass.
