As you may imagine — we never really considered that we would cease to meet together for worship, discipleship, fellowship and ministry any time before Jesus comes again. But obviously, we did! Much prayer went into that decision. Much rethinking and work came out of that decision as we worked to stay connected to one another and to our mission. We now stand on the brink of the time to reopen — ReEmerge if you will — and begin the process of coming back together as First Southern Baptist Church here in our community. That may sound like a simple thing to do. Afterall, we have been doing “church” here since 1974. How difficult can it be? Let’s just throw open the doors, and all will go back to normal. Turns out, reemerging may be even more nuanced than ceasing to meet was. To that end, we have been praying and working on the reemerging process almost from the beginning of the Stay-at-Home order of our Governor. Now that the order has lapsed, we are proceeding cautiously. On the ReEmerge link on our webpage, we will keep you up to date on the what, when and whys of our ReEmergence Plan. We want you to hear one voice on the details. One voice you can trust.

WHAT and WHEN?

PASTORAL STAFF Terrell Eldreth, Senior Pastor Scott Terry, Worship Pastor Ken Kopal, Family Life Pastor CHURCH OFFICE MON - THURS

8:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Although the Stay-at-Home order has now been lifted for Arizona, it does not automatically equate to everything reopening full strength immediately — as I am sure you have already noticed. Our desire is to do a phased-in reopening. That means we will not begin everything in person from day one. We are also taking a little time to see about the safety issues that may arise with groups of people meeting in one location. To that end, we do not plan to open at all in May. Our hope is to give a firm date to be back in live worship by the end of May. continued ...

WHY?

with church this week.

We have learned several important lessons over the past two months. Not the least is that we can still accomplish our mission — even when we cannot all meet at the same time and location. We much prefer to be together each week, but we can still be effective in sharing the Gospel, disciple-making and touching lives.

MAY 24 - MAY 30

We are choosing to delay coming back together in May for the following reasons: The Safety Reason: We want everyone to be as safe as possible when we return. We are not sure what might happen with the issue of the virus. We would like to see that it is not spiking once again as things reopen. We are also looking at how we will conduct the simple things we do in worship — from greeters in the lobby to offerings and the Lord’s Supper.

Please note the Church Office is closed on Monday, May 25 in observation of Memorial Day.

When we all return, we want a sanitized environment. We ordered new free-standing sanitizing stations as soon as everything shut down. Like paper products, these products were immediately out of stock and backordered. Our orders should be here by the first part of June. We are determining how much cleaning and sanitizing will need to go on between each activity when we are together.

At first, limits were for not more that 10 people meeting at a time. Then it was — and may still be — no more that 50 people meeting at a time. Our State Attorney General and now our Governor seem to be giving more leeway on this issues, but would still like for churches to maintain the social distancing mandates — as much as possible. We are looking at what worship, Sunday School, music and children’s ministries will look like for a ReEmerged First Southern. Blessings on your week as you begin to ReEmerge from your Stay-at-Home reality. See you Sunday on Live Stream Worship, Pastor Terrell
