March

“It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.”

WHO DOES JESUS LOVE?

What a radical question. I’m afraid that for too many people, the answer is that if Jesus loves anyone in this world it wouldn’t be them. They have already concluded that they are just not loveable to anyone and especially not to Jesus. They have decided that even if there is a God, he has already removed them from his “To Love” list.

What a tragic existence! To even think that there may be a God they have no hope that he could, or ever would love them. How can they move forward each day? How can they even dare to believe in a future for this life let alone any life after death?

But Easter Sunday changed all of that. Because Jesus did not stay dead we have true hope. Because Jesus did not stay dead we find true love.

So, back to our question: Who does Jesus love?

Jesus loves the guy who needs help finding a job.

He loves the girl who wants to change the world one puppy, or prodigal, or person at a time.

He loves the one who speaks before they think.

He loves the one going through the deepest hurt and worst trial because he identifies with the battle the way they know it.

He loves the woman everyone is gossiping about.

He loves the boy who loves a girl who doesn’t love him back.

He loves the girl who doesn’t remember what it feels like to be healthy and whole.

He loves the one who tries hard to do the right thing.

He loves the ones whose brains and bodies don’t work the ways they should.

He loves the one who has wrecked his marriage.

He loves the guy who wants to believe but doesn’t yet.

He loves the girl with control issues.

He loves the one who can’t get off the couch to go try again.

He loves the mom who fights for her kids.

He loves the guy who battles fear, cancer, and the future all at the same time.

He loves the underdog and the one who gets ignored, dismissed, or overlooked.

He loves the girl who can’t forgive herself so He does.

He loves the dad who’s trying to be a role model to a son who’s nothing like him.

He loves the girl who sings at the top of her lungs in her morning commute.

He loves the one who needs help and doesn’t deserve it.

He loves us to the greatest degree possible.

He loves each of us.

Jesus loves all of us . . .

Blessings on your week. May you accept the true love that Jesus has for you and the true hope of eternity with Him that He offers you. I do look forward to seeing you this Easter (Resurrection) Sunday, as our choir presents Song of the Lamb, and we look at Jesus: Our One True Hope.
