A SNEAK PEEK INTO

HAVEN MUSIC HALL

Photos by Amelia Bailey The atmosphere was charged at the February 25th sneak peek of Haven Music Hall, a brand new small music venue, cafe, and bar located in the heart of Saint John, New Brunswick. And despite the unfinished state of the interior, the enthusiasm of those in attendance was a clear indication that this is going to be a special place.

The evening's performances began with an engaging solo set by Cole Savoie as "Bad People," showcasing his talents as a singersongwriter. Armed with only his voice and guitar, Savoie captivated the audience with heartfelt lyrics and emotive vocals, demonstrating his skillful musicianship and ability to connect with his listeners.

Womb to Tomb's unique sound, blending a range of influences, created an eclectic and engaging atmosphere for everyone there; and I’d like to think that Dill and Jasmine, as twins, have an intuitive musical connection that enhances their chemistry on stage.

ER & the Other's set marked a significant shift in the evening, as their garage rock pulled everyone to the front of the stage, creating a deeper connection between them and the duo. As the last act of the night, Saint John's pop-punk icons, Loveover, delivered an unforgettable and highenergy set that had everyone on their feet. While frontman Yurgos was, for the first time, strictly on vocals, he commanded the stage with his dynamic presence and delivered an electrifying performance that had everyone singing along.

Each band brought their own unique sound and energy to the stage, showcasing the incredible diversity and talent of the music scene in Saint John.

The owners of Haven Music Hall, Abigail Smith and Sidney Foy, have poured their hearts and souls into creating a space that will not only provide incredible live music but also a place for people to come together and connect. This event was especially inspiring due to the number of people in attendance who had donated their time, skills, and resources to make the new venue a reality. It's clear that Haven will cater to all kinds of music lovers, and the community is excited to support and embrace the new space. The night was a welcome glimmer of hope following the closure of Taco Pica in 2020, which left a void in the live music scene.

Haven Music Hall promises to be a hub of live music and community for the Saint John area, and it's all thanks to the hard work and dedication of people like Sid and Abby, and the support of the wonderful community that surrounds them.

Despite the challenges of the past few years, it's clear that there is still plenty of passion and energy for music in Saint John, and this venue promises to be an exciting new chapter in the local music scene.

MIDLIFE CRISIS

by John Adam Ian Saint John, NB Released by Starstuff Records, John Adam Ian's Midlife Crisis explores the ideas and inspirations found in times of hurting and healing. Explaining on Bandcamp that "in 2020, I battled mental health and depression. I began writing again to occupy my time. I was filled with inspiration, ideas, and songs. I felt intense regret for ignoring this part of myself for six years. The urge to create became inescapable. This album captures those feelings and realizations."
