Bishop of Nottingham Visits Inter Care

Syston based charity Inter Care was delighted to receive a visit from its Patron, The Right Reverend Patrick Joseph McKinney, Bishop of Nottingham, on the 7th March 2017. The Bishop met staff and some of Inter Care’s team of volunteers on a tour of the charity’s warehouse and office.

The Bishop has been supporting Inter Care as its Patron since

2015 and is passionate about the work of the charity. He told Inter Care staff, “It’s a privilege to support an organisation which is showing practical love and care for those who are in need in rural sub-Saharan Africa”. The Catholic Diocese of Nottingham covers Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Rutland and Lincolnshire including The Divine Infant of Prague, Syston.

Established in 1974, Inter Care sends recycled surplus quality medicines

which would otherwise be incinerated, along with healthcare goods such as dressings and instruments to rural health units in some of the poorest parts of Africa.

For a small charity, Inter Care’s impact is impressive, they support around 130 health units with medical aid in five African countries, which collectively serve a catchment population of over 11 million.

Queniborough W.I. Winter seems still to be with us as the wind blows and the rain continues to fall, but there is a sign of spring as the tete-a-tete bulbs we planted along the grass verge opposite the village hall for the W.I. Centenary start to spring forth again. Our March meeting was very much a warmer as we chose to hold a fish and chip supper for members night. Some twenty six members sat down to this enjoyable repast followed by coffee and cream scones. What a dieters nightmare!!

Children’s First Aid Workshops

Premier safety training covers all aspects of training for adults, care homes, factories etc... The company has been running for over three years.

Our tutors are qualified and work in the NHS. We started teaching children first aid last year and have a lot of positive feedback.

Children are like a sponge, taking in all the information.

Hopefully, they never have to use it, but can have peace of mind if they are with someone who needs help - they’ll know what to do!

We have been approached to carry out these children's first aid workshops by community centres, estates funded by local councillors and have also had a lot of open workshops requested by parents in their area.

We have also done first aid workshop birthday parties. The sessions are fun and very interactive, making learning first aid fun.

We have lots more workshops coming up, or if anyone is interested please contact Harsha on 0796 742 6422 so that we can look at organising a workshop in your area whether it be for children or adults.

Year 5 children held an Egyptian day where they learnt about Egyptian gods, mummification, Egyptian dance, Egyptian games and how to make papyrus paper. The children from 5TO and 5RP dressed up for the day.

A school assembly followed with the same theme and explained to the rest of the school as well as parents, grandparents and carers what they had learnt, using humour to help tell the story of the pharaohs and mummification.

Thank You Age Concern Syston wish to say a huge thank you to all our little hat knitters. We have been able to send 2000 hats for the smoothie bottles.

The money generated will amount to £500 towards our funds.

The hats were amazing and beautiful.

The love care and attention to detail was fantastic.

Watermead Challenge

This year’s Watermead Challenge charity run is being held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 11th July 2017.

There are the usual five and three mile courses. Race Director, Chris Battye commented “ The two distances appeal to a range of abilities from novice runners to the more experienced. The flat lakeside course is popular as it offers the chance to achieve a personal best time.”

This year’s proceeds will be shared between the Leicester Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) and Loughborough based Mosaic Disability Services.

The event, organised by the Wreake Valley and Syston Rotary Clubs, attracted about 400 runners in 2016.

On Tuesday 14th March the Stn visited Pukka Pies to record the presentation of the money raised by staff for one of their colleagues who has huntingdon's disease. They held a range of fundraising activities which until the day the recipient, Will, had no idea that the money being raised was to be for him.

There was a charity event and disco held on 28th January. The men in Production 1 entered a no shave challenge which began in November and raised £640. They also had a forfeit for the first person to shave and Wayne was that person, he had to dye his hair blond, but unfortunately it when ginger instead! Tan Zeya held a sweep stake and with all these events the total raised was £1790.

Vanessa Presented this to Will, who said that he was going to use some of the money to take part in a parachute jump and go to see Phil Collins in concert. After that he wasn't sure, but he has a bucket list of things he wants to do.

This month in the garden This is our monthly gardening feature by our own local expert and regular panellist on “Down to Earth”.

This year BBC Radio Leicester celebrates its 50th anniversary and consequently it is the longest serving of all BBC local radio stations.

During this time it has been a privilege for me to be able to work as a garden advisor for 49 years on BBC Radio Leicester’s ‘Down to Earth’ gardening program.

49 years ago during August myself and members of Goscote Nurseries staff had built a large Japanese garden with a tea house, contemplatory garden and stream that were planted mainly with Japanese shrubs, herbaceous and waterside plants.

At that time the late Geoff Amos came to me with a large tape recorder and asked if I would like to talk for a few minutes about the plants we had used. Afterwards he said, ‘You seem to know your stuff, how would you like to become a member of BBC Radio Leicester’s ‘Down to Earth’ gardening panel? At that time I did not know there was a BBC radio station in Leicester, but thought I would give it a go.

49 years later and I am still giving advice on ‘Down to Earth’ so the BBC

newspaper has decided to do an article about myself and John Smith who together are probably the oldest and longest serving of all local radio gardeners.

To top it all they wanted a photograph of us both and as I am useless at photography I asked our lovely Syston Town News editor if she could take a picture of me in the garden. Fiona is magic with a camera and to prove it you can see the photograph she has produced, left. Incidentally if you are wondering what the shrub is in the container in this photo, it is Viburnum tinus ‘Laura Roza’, which has 103 flowering stems on it.

On the 15th March the border on the Builder Base side of the car park at Syston railway station was as Wordsworth would say, ‘A cloud of golden daffodils’. Trevor invited the railway people along to look at the Syston in Bloom panels achievements in turning part of the station car park from a tip into two attractive borders and flower boxes, which have given the station a new lease of life. The three representatives from the railway were very impressed and thought the station outstanding and congratulated the Syston in Bloom committee for the work they had put into its development.

During the third week of March my forty year old Rhododendron ‘Boskoop Ostara’, see picture above right, was in full bloom and covered with rosy-pink flowers.

This is now four feet (1.2m) in diameter and when it first came out, due to a slightly taller bushy conifer growing in front of it, we could not see most of the flowers from out of our kitchen window.

So as late March and early April is the time to give conifers their first trim I went out and cut the conifer back by about

nine inches (22cm) and this allows us to now see all of the flowers.

Incidentally when trimming conifers always trim back to where there are still green leaves, many conifers will not re-grow out of old wood.

The 37 Saxifrage species and cultivars that I grow in gravel screes, rockery, trough and sinks now look gorgeous.

Most are absolutely covered with either white, yellow, apricot, pink, or red flowers so it is difficult to see the foliage and as all are evergreen, even without their flowers many have attractive silvery foliage.

The runner beans and climbing French beans that I planted in cell trays in my greenhouse have now immerged and at their first true leaf I shall pot the cell grown plants first into 9cm plant pots and three weeks later into one litre plant pots where I shall use 18 inch (45cm) flower sticks to enable them to start climbing.

These will stop in my greenhouse until they are planted into 50 litre black tree tubs, three to a tree tub during May. I have five different forms of our native violet growing in my garden and the first to open during late February was a deep purple, two weeks later the royal blue form open and this was followed by lavender, mauve and white. All but for the white self seed around the garden and in some places i.e. my rockery they become weeds.

As I write this I have just had delivered from Thompson and Morgan five tubers of Begonia ‘Daffadowndilly’, which I ordered as they have different flowers to other begonias looking more like orange, trumpet shaped daffodils.

Namibia Trip 2017

Syston girl Katie Brown is hoping to go to Namibia in July of this year.

Her reason for wanting to go is to help children out there who are less fortunate. The group will be visiting Grootberg primary school, which Katie’s school , De Lisle College, has been helping for many years. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and Katie said: “I need as much help as I can to help fundraise and make it possible for me to achieve this”.

While they are out there they will be working from 6.00am until late, sanding down walls, plastering to give a smooth finish, paint animals and flags, alphabet and numbers and the four season as whilst it brightens up their schools, classrooms and dorms it is also a way of educating the children.

The group will also be helping the children in their lessons by making sure that they understand everything (they have to plan the project before going as they will need to buy supplies to enable them to carry out the work).

The pictures, supplied by Katie, show some of the work already carried out by students that have had the pleasure of going to Namibia, as you can see they will be very busy out there making sure they do everything that they can to try to make these children's day to day life a little brighter.

Katie and the group have also been taking part in a lot of sponsored activities at school to help raise fund for mattresses, blankets, storage boxes, cuddly toys and stationery etc.

Declan’s Diary Finally the winter is going and the birds are singing which means Declan can join me on walks around the lakes with the dogs without getting too cold.

The cold really affects Declan's muscles making them tighter and painful - this has also made learning to drive quite difficult as his hands are getting tired and suffering from cramps from the cold.

We were hoping that Declan may have been almost ready to take his driving test by now, which he practically is, but we are realising that learning to drive with a disability, regardless of how capable you are, brings lots of obstacles.

Declan enters his van via a lift at the back which is all electrically powered.

Since having the van five months ago we have had constant problems with this lift to the point of Declan being stuck in the van. This has meant for weeks-on-end we have been left without transport, without Declan being able to do his driving lessons.

The company that do the theory tests allow you to book online, except if you need assistance, then you have to send an email or letter confirming what assistance is needed and why, so in Declan’s case he needs extra time, simple you would think. After having emails rejected due to being in the wrong format, no signature, no college stamp we are still awaiting a date for his theory test.

Learning to drive in such a modified van requires a specialised driving instructor, this has also taken a very long time, however, we now have a fantastic instructor who takes Declan out when the van is working and has said “My name is Andy Stark from Pegasus Driving Tuition. I am currently teaching Declan to drive using the latest state of the art technology in his own van. After only a few hours Declan has amazed me with his progress and has shown much more control and confidence than almost any other pupil I have taught. Declan's willingness to learn make him a very easy pupil to teach.

So much so that I am now training to be a motability instructor for the Leicester area."

have been our saving grace. Andy and Charmaine (the company owners) decided to buy

three VW caddy's so that they could provide a service for wheelchair users to be able to stay in their wheelchairs safely clamped down in a dignified manner. Unlike 'black cabs' where you have to drive into the cab, sit side-on without being strapped down or having a seat belt, something Declan finds unsafe, he simple drives up the ramp at the back of the taxi and is then strapped in with four tie downs and has a seat belt.

Charmaine and Andy drive these special vans along side George and Kerry who have all made the experience a great one for Declan and allowed him to still go to college and socialise.

They have treated Declan with dignity and respect during the journeys and I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs this specialised transport.

Declan has recently started attending Rainbows Children's Hospice Over Eighteen Club every other Wednesday. Rainbows identified that young disabled adults need a safe place to socialise and made this possible. It's still quite new for Declan but he's already making new friends and will hopefully gain more confidence from attending.

Hopefully I will have more news on his driving in May's edition. Until then, enjoy the blossom on the trees and the birds singing, as we can all get caught up in social media and not see the beauty of nature and the people around us.

Holi Festival Party at The Gables Day Nursery

On Monday 13th March, the children participated in a Hindu festival called Holi - The festival of colours.

This is when the first day of spring is celebrated by exploring with bright coloured powder paint.

The children put their hands in the paint to make hand print marks on their white t-shirts and used pots to throw it into the air. They then clapped their hands together to create dust and mix the colours.

All of the children really enjoyed it and had lots of fun running around laughing and having an amazing time!

NEW BARKBY WI Mrs A. Montague (VicePresident) welcomed members to New Barkby’s March meeting. After business matters were attended to; there was a warm welcome for Mrs Kerry Evans.

Although it was St David's day, there was not a leek or a daffodil in sight, but Mrs Evans heralded the nearness of the Spring season, as she demonstrated the art of flower arranging.

As she created five different arrangements, each with their unique container; one was an orange coloured watering can which became home to blue stocks, orange/yellow sun flowers amid green foliage.

Another contained chrysanthemums and lilies with roses too.

As it will soon be Easter, some of the arrangements were decorated with models of bunnies, plastic eggs and the last one; set on a silver plate contained chocolate Easter eggs placed between the floral arrangement.

As she demonstrated, Mrs Evans also gave out handy tips on how to keep flower stems fresh, even using boiled water if necessary.

The arrangements were raffled off at the end of the demonstration and the lucky recipients were Mrs J. Bishop, Mrs S. Gamble, Mrs B. Lancaster, Mrs J. Oliver and Mrs B. Storer.

Mrs J. Brutnall gave the vote of thanks. The competition winner was Mrs M. Gamble who had made a flower arrangement. The tea hostesses were Mrs L. Chapman and Mrs D. Haynes.

There was a social evening for the Soar Valley Group held on 16th March which was a Fun Auction proceeds were to go towards saving Denman College.

The next monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday 5th April, Syston Community Centre at 7.30pm. The speaker will be Mr P. Franklin with A ‘Film Star’ talk. Visitors are always welcome.

Film Reviews by Adam Ray Palmer Award season has come and gone, Spring has sprung and the blockbuster months are looming. To ease us in, I bring you previews of four films today that are released this April.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 With another tip-top soundtrack, the guardian crew are back! Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper return with the heavyweight Hollywood additions of Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone in-tow.

The team continue their adventures far away as they try to unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s (Pratt) true parentage.

Superhero films continue to dominate; and GotG2 will be no different.

City of Tiny Lights I caught this ‘tiny’ delight at the London Film Festival last October. It was a small theatre, roughly 60 people, and we were hoping for big things but in reality, expecting little. On a shoe-string budget, Pete Travis (director) shot calls a gritty drama that focuses on a straight-forward missing-person case that escalates into a dangerous tale of religious fanaticism and political intrigue. Riz Ahmed anchors alongside Billie ‘honey to the bee’ Piper.

Fast & Furious 8 Commonly mistaken for each other, Vin Diesel and The Rock return in the eighth, yes eighth, Fast & Furious movie. The saga takes a twist here as they travel into space and race multicoloured rockets… who am I kidding… they’re still committing dangerous driving charges in suped-up cars kicking the hell out of anything that moves. Chuck in the odd grunt from Vin Diesel and there’s the Fast & Furious bingo done.

Rogue One (DVD review) Riz Ahmed in another film alert! He leads this Star Wars story with English rose Felicity Jones and Mexican risingstar Diego Luna – who I had the pleasure of meeting in Berlin; what a guy. This trio, along with a few others, are in the Rebel Alliance who make the risky move of stealing the plans to the Death Star.

Rogue One is slow to get going, but action ramps up when inevitable trouble catches up with them. It’s well worth a rent, especially as we patiently wait for Star Wars: Episode 8. The force is still strong with this one.

Syston Family Activity Group

Everyone of all ages is welcome, though the kids must supervise their parents!

We are at the beginning of a great adventure with Syston Family Activity Group. Set up a year ago to provide varied activities for all the family to join in.

We arrange things like archery and air rifle shooting, canoeing, climbing, bushcraft, skittles, biking, orienteering and loads more. We meet every fortnight on Tuesday evening at various locations nearby and also arrange days out and camps.

Events are arranged over Facebook in our closed group, but feel free to have a look at what we get up to on our public page.

’s report on the Full Town Council Meeting held on Tuesday 28th February 2017

There were five members of public 12 Councillors(Cllrs) present.

The reflection was read by the Chairman Cllr P. Henry.

Apologies were received from Cllrs T. Barkley, M. Carnal, H. Midgley, J. Midgley and County Cllr D. Houseman.

There were no declarations of interest and no matters arising from the public adjournment.

There were some Chairman’s announcements made, one referring to Cllr T. Barkley who was not present at the meeting due to a family bereavement.

The Syston History Society had presented a copy of the World War 2 book to the council.

The damage caused by storm Doris of trees in Deville Park and Upper Church Street, pictures were shown.

The Police report was given by PC Ian Perry and Sgt Laura Millward who is the new beat sergeant. They talked about the large number of thefts from Motor vehicles and that many had been left unlocked. Leaflets were being delivered by the police cadets in the areas most affected.

Good news about the highly publicised spate of damage to motor vehicles from Thurmaston through Syston and villages towards Melton on one night, 1st January - Five people have been arrested and four charged will the damage.

After answering some questions the officers left.

Charnwood Borough and County Councillors (CBC & CC) reports Cllr E. Vardy gave information with regard to his position as cabinet member for planning etc. He said that there was a master plan for Loughborough and a regeneration for Shepshed and Thurmaston, so is there something to be done for Syston. Along with David Slater they are starting to do a professional assessment for the town.

Cllr S. Hampson gave an overview of the CC Budget and the limits over the next few years as government requires them to save £163m, he praised the officers at the CC in that they are achieving these savings. He said they are more risk and commercially aware.

Cllr K. Pacey spoke on three items; first he is now a member of the patient participation group at the health centre.

Secondly, he raised awareness to companies targeting residents by door leafleting offering repeat prescriptions delivered to door on a monthly basis and that this may be stopped as patients may receive more than they require. 30 aspects checked. Finally, he said that the health centre is keeping a record of who is acting as a carer, not a registered council carer, so if you are acting as a carer for someone or know of anyone, to let the health centre know.

CCllr D. Houseman’s report on incomparable lighting in Lindisfarne Rd was tabled. But the work to improve the lighting on that road will take place in the next eight weeks.

New Councillor - Resident Mr Philip Knight applied for the vacant position for a new councillor. He was proposed by Cllr E. Vardy seconded by J Lucas and unanimously accepted by full council.

The Chairman Cllr P. Henry congratulated and welcomed him to the council and hoped he would get involved in all aspects of council business.

Proposed Melton Rd Closure - David Wilson Homes need to do some work on Melton Road at the new development ‘The Millstones’. The proposed closure will apply from the roundabout at Parkstone Rd to Branston garage. David Wilson Homes and bus companies have agreed an alternative route through Queniborough and down Barkby Rd into Syston. The closure will be for approximately five to seven weeks commencing mid July 2017.

A meeting was arranged that the Chair will be attending and so asking Cllrs for questions to take to that meeting.

Chairman's Report - The Chairman, Cllr P. Henry gave a review of what he has done and what he would like the council to achieve in the forthcoming months.

Areas covered included meetings records, audio recording of meetings, which he will bring the the next full council.

He would like to avoid questions being raised on the night of full council when they could be raised prior to the meeting to avoid inaccurate responses.

He believe that Councillor training is important, there is a budget set and he would like to encourage more councillors to take advantage with this.

He then spoke about operation of council procedures and appreciates that they can take time to get resolved from a request being made. He gave a couple of good and bad examples, emphasising that it is important to abide by the procedures to avoid problems in the future.

He then spoke about the data protection Act and how recording of telephone conversations and passing on without permission is in fact a breach of data protection, but it also applies to email. He gave an example: if an email is sent to www.systontownnews.co.uk

one person and passed on to someone else without the first persons without permission, it is a breach. He advised caution to all Cllrs when sending emails, to ensure they are working within the law.

He finished by saying the Standard Orders Review should be available for next full council.

Two new members were appointed to the tree panel, there were Cllrs Philip Knight and John Lucas.

The Town Manager’s Report Catherine Voyce gave her report which included forthcoming events; The Civic Reception to be held on Friday 12th May, raffle prizes were being received for this event. The Circus will be on Central Park between 14th and 18th June.

The new Duck feeding signs were to be put up during the week of this full council meeting.

The Cemetery panel meeting had been postponed until 10th March and Bowling club meeting had been scheduled for the last week in March.

She had met with the Syston Town Band and progress was being made on their new building.

The council had received 100m of hedging which Dave Smith and team will use to fill in gaps around the town.

The automatic door at the community centre were at the time of the meeting not working again and they were awaiting repairs to be done.

She reported that all staff training had been completed for this year.

Members Question to the Chairman One question had been submitted by Cllr H. Midgley regarding the mediation process between Cllr J. Midgley and the Town Manager Mrs C. Voyce, asking when it will take place and who would be taking it.

The Chairman responded by saying that and agent had been approved who had sent out three quotes, one had come back and they were awaiting the other two. He hoped that they would have further details for the March full council meeting.

QT Theatre Group

It seems ages since I reported on what’s happening with QTs!!! It was great to see so many of you at our last play and, from the sound of the laughter, you all enjoyed it very much. We performed Made Blavatsky Lives in memory of our dear friend Phil Sharpe who sadly passed away very unexpectedly just before he was due to start directing the play.

Thanks to Mark Smith, who took over as Director, we were still able to put on the play that Phil had chosen. Mark did a fantastic job, considering that it was his first attempt at directing a full play and we are looking forward to working with him again in the near future.

In the meantime, we are flat out with our next production, a David Tristram comedy called The Opposite Sex! The play will be performed at The Old Chapel, in Chapel Street, Syston, from Tuesday 16th May to Friday 19th May. As usual, the play will start at 7.30pm and we shall be serving refreshments and holding a raffle every evening. It is a very funny play (I don’t think the cast have got through a rehearsal yet without laughing); however it does have a few risqué moments so I would suggest that it is not suitable for under 15s. The four roles will be played by Ron Berry, Paul Puttnam, Sally Portsmouth and Gillian Bowler.

All four are invaluable members of the group and are working really well together. It makes my role as Director so much easier!

For those people who are new to the town, here is a reminder of where The Old Chapel is. It is situated on Chapel Street, a turning off the High Street, almost opposite Hair Design by Wayne.

Heritage Lottery Fund Granted to Hoby & District Local History Group The Hoby & District Local History Society has received a grant of £6800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a project which focuses on events that took place in and involved residents of Hoby during the later part of the First World War. The project covers three main areas: One hundred years ago in 1917 a play called ‘A Pretty Bequest’ was performed in Hoby to raise money for the Lord Mayor of Leicester £100,000 war fund. We have found the script of this play in the British Library and plan to perform it as part of an Edwardian evening, on two nights in 2017 one hundred years after its first staging.

Entry to this event will be free of charge but donations received will be split between three soldiers charities; Combat Stress, Help for Heroes and Royal British Legion.

When Hoby dedicated its War Memorial in the early 1920s they staged a sports day and ‘meat tea’ as part of the dedication event.

We will organise a village event for all the current residents of Hoby to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War that will include a modern day ‘meat tea’ and appropriate entertainment.

Many Hoby residents have looked into their family archives and come forward with stories relating to what their ancestors did in the First World War. These stories illustrate how ordinary people were affected by the First World War and are an important piece of social history. We will publish these stories in a book so there is a permanent record of this traumatic period of history.

Wreake Valley Rotary Group Presentation Evening On Wednesday 22nd February, the Wreake Valley Rotary Club held their annual presentation evening.

On the night the Club President; David Brown, presented cheques to fourteen of the nineteen different local charities or projects, including: The Bridge, Carpenters Arms Food Bank, Motor Neurone, The Inner Wheel, Mosaic Narrow Boat, Happy Smiles Play group, Life Skills Project, Nicholas Branston Foundation, Syston Youth Cafe, Action Homeless, Syston Volunteer Centre, Medical Detection Dogs, Leicester Life Education, Leics & Rutland Wildlife Trust. The money had been raised throughout the year including the Christmas Santa tour.

WVA Pupils Enjoy Monday Night Football Leicester City Vs Liverpool A lucky group of pupils cherished an exciting game at the King Power stadium which saw a vastly improved performance from the home side following the controversial sacking of title-winning manager, Claudio Ranieri.

Students from years 7, 8 and 9 started the afternoon with an hour-and-a-half of training and a mini football tournament at St Margaret pastures. The football was played in a great spirit with a competitive Pictures supplied by Wreake Valley Academy edge.

Following the tournament, the students enjoyed a pre-match meal at the Holiday Inn. The group of boys and girls ate Spaghetti bolognese and pizza followed by apple crumble and custard.

Pre-match, the 18 girls that attended were given the opportunity to be flag bearers for when the players run out onto the pitch.

The girls were positioned right in front of the Liverpool fans. With both groups of fans chanting, the girls felt the full force and left the pitch with their ears ringing and their hair standing up!

Barkby United Cricket Club Barkby held their annual dinner and presentation night at Barkby village hall where presentations were made by the Captains of the various teams.

Club chairman Marcus Birr presented the clubman of the year trophy to Scott Moore, for his and his families work for the club throughout the season.

First team Captain Steve Flowers presented the batting award to Tom Flowers and the bowling award to Rob Townsend who was the leading wicket taker in the premier league.

Tom Flowers, pictured, also won the award for first team player of the season.

The second team awards presented

by Dave Botting were to Conor Percy for best batsman and the bowling award and second team player of the season went to Dave Botting.

Michael Lilley, third team captain, presented Nitesh Vadgama with the batting award and Michael Lilley won the bowling award.

Third team player of the year was Jack Fox.

Sunday Captain Ken Eales presented Jack Wood with the award for best batsman and Jack Johnson for the award for best bowler.

The Burrough League first team player of the season was Steve Flowers and the Burrough League second team player of the season was Jack Fox. The De Lorian award, which is a cricket bat with a hole in it and awarded for a humorous event was presented by club chairman Marcus Birr to Rob Townsend who spent an hour trying to find Tilton and Lowesby's ground for a Burrough League game, before deciding to

drive home and left the team short of a player.

Chairman Marcus Birr thanked the people who had supported the club throughout the season and with the first team finishing fifth in the premier league, the second and third teams both winning promotion, and the Burrough league first team winning their league, said it had been a very good season for our teams and wished the teams all the best for the coming season.
