Forum is back!

Terrace Sessions 6

After having stopped for a while, FingerboardPT finally came back! « Fingerboard Portugal is a portal for news, events and media produced by the Portuguese community of Fingerboard. Founded in 2007, it helped to launch Portuguese brands, which today produce the best products of the industry. We organize regular events that bring together practitioners and enthusiasts, just for fun. This is a short description of our great community! »

Terrace sessions is a group of videos. In each video one rider was invited to try out the ystore’s granite park . In the previous edition we had with us the terrace sessions 5, with the participation of the rider Pedro Oliveira. Now, to present the terrace Sessions 6, in a video of about 3 minutes, Tiago Filipe does incredible tricks with his setup "100% Portuguese." The video can be viewed on YouTube at the following link: http://youtu.be/zS9hVjwr70U

Harlem Shake (YW) Oak 2013 Collection

Harlem Shake has been a hit around the world, where millions of videos have already been put on youtube. In issue 7, in the GOS Weekend organized by Yellowood, the competition was interrupted and one Harlem Shake video was recorded. Not lacking animation! Conferring the video: http://youtu.be/TCysCJipVlc

Ricardo Lopes, owner of Oak Wheels, presented in 2013 his new collection. As everyone knows, the Oak Wheels is the best distributor of fingerboard wheels and it is recognized not only in Portugal but also internationally. The new collection includes several collaborations with other brands, one of which is very important: LOWPRO. The union of two national brands is the best project. Other collaborations such as ASI Berlin and Flatface also stood out enough in the world trade.

Battle at the Harrics is one of the biggest events bringing together hundreds of riders worldwide. A table, two lines, two riders and fingerboard tricks are the "ingredients" for this wonderful recipe. The first edition took place on twentieth of March 2010. Dimitri led the first event, the second was led by Diego Strozyk and finally in the most recent edition it was Elias Assmuth. Edition number 4 will take place on the twenty-third of March in Berlin. This edition will present some Portuguese riders, as it was done last year, but this time Pedro Tavares will be there too.

AndrÊ Coral, AndrÊ Miranda, Guilherme Braz and Gonçalo Rodrigues are some of the names that will also be at this great event. It's good to see Portuguese riders representing our country. We are a small country in a quantitative aspect but we are a country with a huge quality. So we hope "our boys behave well" out there and have fun because this only happens once a year! On the following pages you can recall some photos of previous editions and also the winners of each. Text: Nelson Sousa Translation: Vasco Trabulo

This is a new section in the magazine. Horoscope Fingerboard was an idea to have more contact with the public and also to make the staff have some fun. Perhaps this "joking" horoscope is a reality for many and it might even help. How is this going to work? Basically each sign has a little tip about what the rider needs to do more. It's just like regular horoscope, but it’s about fingerboard. I hope the people do not take this the wrong way, and they understand that this is just a joke to entertain people. On the next page there are all the signs and their respective advises.

Try new maneuvers and innovate. Keep practicing because sooner or later you will be able to do that trick you wanted to do so much.

Maybe, you need to shoot anything. Your success in the fingerboard needs to be recognized, therefore, film something and get opinions and tips to improve.

Invite friends to do fingerboard with you and free yourself from the monotony. Doing fingerboard with friends is the best stuff ever, and you can always learn new tricks. Try to go to events because that’s where the community is all together, and that makes the national scene grow! Get outside and do fingerboard with others!

Get something new, either a deck or trucks, because you need something new. But do not forget that the material in the fingerboard is not everything, it just helps your performance! Try to do a “montage” video with any fingerboard friends you have. Besides helping both channels, it is very amusing to see "montages" on youtube.

Watch videos on the internet about a lot of people that do fingerboard, they are the source of a good learning. To see who knows more will always help , in any aspect of life. Do not wish everyone to subscribe to you and put a like in your videos. Try to conquer the public with your videos, with your style and moves and not through constant spam.

Keep practicing, as you have been practicing. Finger boarding can make us impatient, but what matters is that at the end we can do everything we wanted to do in the start. Be more aware of what is happening in the fingerboard world . Nowadays there are many blogs and websites that make the virtual fingerboard never die!

For fingerboard video lovers, this is nothing new. For those unaware Grand Illusion is a series of videos filmed and edited by Taylor Rosembauer , a great rider, who is part of the Blackriver-Ramps team. The first edition was released in 2010 and has nearly 200,000 views. The last one left the community stunned. Editing, music, tricks, filming, everything is perfect in this video. Taylor’s characteristic style with just two fingers stretched do not fool anyone! In fact, I think it's worth losing 4 minutes of your time to watch this video. Additionally Taylor also added a video called "Blackrivervillage", which of course is also very good. It’s really sad that the channel has been updated few times, but when there are new videos, everyone is stunned! Congratulations to Taylor Rosembauer, for giving these wonderful things to the fingerboard world. !

A new slope has been released by BBR. It's small and it's characterized by its realism. By now, probably everyone already knows this little pearl. It consists of 4 wooden bars (steamed beech) with two screws which are bolted to a metal frame previously welded and painted in black. The branding was done with laser engraving. With 25cm long, 5.5 cm wide and 5 cm high, it is well proportioned to be portable. The fact that it has a metal frame gives it a good solidity because the wood elements are particularly thin (5mm). The ramp gives a great joy to use and it's extremely sturdy! This slope is identical to KL Wood street bench - an excellent brand family of BIG Construction of slopes which came out before in the market. This slope is similar to the street banks. Grinding the wood is extremely boring and it cleans the trucks and doesn't give them that "polished" look characteristic. The

advantage is that trucks aren’t used up and graphics aren’t much worn out. Of course this will be more a matter of taste, but in fact there are alternatives that use steel instead to face this problem ... well, it is not a problem, but it does not allow the obstacle to be irreplaceable! ... The price is around 25 Euros, it is not cheaper because with half of this money you can get other quite good obstacles. However this slope hasn´t an absurd price like others that cost 35 euros. This obstacle is not easy to do at home , unlike many others! In my opinion this is why this slope triumphs - it's realism is relatively affordable! It is also such a photogenic obstacle that it serves well to do a scenery or do maneuvers over it. To sum up: Good price, a very good look, great strength, great realism, excellent for all slides, very good action and bad for grinds (grind-sliding FTW).

Street bench, by Blackriver, next to Wood Street Bench, from big constructions.

In recent months we have seen an explosion of colors and patterns on hangers. I think the idea came from Blackriver and well known riders quickly began to use this. It is composed by strips of veneer that can be applied in trucks, and make them more personalized. We can buy them in boxes made by "SallyHansen" or made by others, with 16 strips of different sizes and the largest is sufficient to cover the entire truck. So, firstly remove the film from above, that only serves to protect it, and then remove the part of the sticker carefully because the varnish

is quite fragile, stick it onto the truck, starting from the front to the back and that should be as perfect as possible. After applying it, remove the excess with an xact or a pocketknife to avoid tear bits. Push all the right areas for a more perfect finish. After this the trucks will be izaçþ"thicker" and, inevitably because of that, the wheels can be attached. The varnish is incredibly tough and hard. It will only scratch in cement or other rough surfaces. Therefore, there is the hint ... good customizations! Text: Bernardo Bacalhau

As everyone knows, the fact that a rider or fingerboarder (whatever you want to call it) has a sponsor or sponsorship of any brand doesn't mean that he is a great or even a professional fingerboarder. There are lots of videos in the internet, in Youtube, which are the famous "Sponsor me". What is this anyway? The funny thing is that people who want and ask for sponsorship, are the people who are not good at firgerboard. Another type of videos are the "Tryout's." This type of videos is more acceptable. The brands that are looking for new people to join in their team , open a competition which people have to film and post their videos in the internet with the name "Tryout". Some time ago, the Yellowood did something similar, but it was only open to american riders.

If you want to get a sponsorship or sponsor there is a very obvious way: Not wanting to be sponsored. People who request sponsorship are generally those who do not do good fingerboard. Summarizing and concluding, if you want to be sponsored don't ask for it. Deserve it. Create an account on youtube, get a camera and make your own videos. Learn new techniques, do new tricks and the most important of all: go to the meetings / events and do fingerboard with others. Here is a tip on how to be sponsored, but remember that sponsorship is not everything and it will not make you a better or worse rider. What matters is to have fun and above all to make new friends. How did you meet fingerboard? The fingerboard as an object passed by my life a few years before I met fingerboard as a modality. Somewhere around the 90’s , I had one of those transparent pencils with huge wheels. Sometimes I imagine myself exactly in that moment when I had no idea of the importance that a mini skate would have in my life. In the first half of the 2000 decade , I started to notice the existence of Tech Deck. I had a few , but at the time they were just miniature skate somewhere in my room. Around 2006 , I started to see fingerboards with another perspective and it was at this point that I started to try to do some tricks. In 2007, I met the forum and the national scene , and since that time , I met all communities and the different international scenes. The first meeting I went to was at the Expo , in January 12th , 2008. How did Lowpro appeared? In the second half of 2007, I started to idealize with Gil our own wooden decks, because, at the time, the only wooden decks available were not easy to get. The birth of Lowpro happened during this process. The support of the community was really important. I can say that it was crucial. As the first prototype graphics and photos were posted, the community started to embrace the project and gave a positive feedback about it all. Lowpro was born between Nov. 2007 and Feb. 2008.

Do you think that Lowpro contributes to the comunity? 12th Yes. , 2008 However this would be a 2.question Howto the didcommunity Lowproitself. appeared? For 5 years I have been proud of Inthe thefamily second half of helped 2007, I me to that has started to idealize with Gil promote sociability in the our own wooden fingerboard scene, and good decks, because, at the time, disposition in Portugal. What is the story behind lowpro talents? The “Lowpro Talents” segment was created to promote riders that use a Lowpro and have a creative potential. If someone that uses and enjoys a Lowpro deck, thinks it has potential to be a lowpro Talent , he can send a video to Lowprotalents@gmail.com at any time. If we like what we see we come into contact with the rider. Do you intend to continue with it? Yes , I have that intention. Some of the talents are already family.

Do you think that in Portugal , there are enough events of the modality ? No, there aren’t enough events . I can say that from now on we are going to have more meetings ,but there is no longer the said “event”. The increase in the number of meetings is fantastic for all of us, from the north to the south of the country. There is at least 1 meeting (Lowpro Meeting, Gos Weekend, Pateo) every month ,which is something totally new in the national scene, this has never happened before. Now, we need more local gatherings, more crews . More local action!

What was the biggest national event for you? I liked them all. I can say that I have never been to an event that I didn’t like. Highlight to the Pro Classics, the Pow-Wow, the presence in Slam Bam, the pateos, Monsanto Jam, the Lourinhãs Jams and the Fingaspot. However, for me it is unquestionable that the Pro Sessions were the biggest and best event in Portugal today. And Why? I remember that the community needed an event. Much time had passed since the last 8 month and all the guys were ready and pumped up to have another meeting. The conditions to organize the Pro Sessions became reality and eventually it happened in the sunny Saturday of November 5th.It was the

event with the largest number of participants until today : 72. The event also counted with the presence of Timo Kranz and Tim Putz (1st place). How was your experience at the Harrics? My first Harrics was in 2010. The first edition was in a bar much smaller than in the last two editions. I loved it. At the time it was a totally new experience, and I had the chance to know well the scene of Berlin which is UNIQUE in my opinion. Since then I haven’t failed any edition. In 2011 LOWPRO co-organized with the Blackriver, the 3rd edition. It was an opportunity to show (again) outside the spirit of the Portuguese scene .

Who did you like to meet the most? In Harrics or in international events? In general many people. Some are still great friends and very important people in my life. From Manu, to Paolo, to Tim, to Thymus, to Elijah, to Daniele, to Danny, to Mike, to Harry and some more honorable sirs. It has been the best characteristic of this 5 years journey - meet many people from everywhere that do fingerboard with taste, uncommitted, creatively and with the same ideals! What differences do you notice between the scene here and out there? Between the German scene and the national one? Besides the obvious differences in language and form, I think there are very few differences. We have an active scene as in Germany, we have events, meetings, we communicate, we share, we have riders, there are creative people… Therefore, proportionally, there is the same human potential. The only difference may be the fact of having more brands out there, and that’s why there are more things happening in Germany.

What do you have to say about our community? Hehe, I began to answer in the previous question. I think we are a top 5 World scene. I think we have no notion of it. We have an immense human potential and creativity with a high fingerboard level. And I also think that we have no notion of it. There are 3 brands in Portugal that one way or another bring more or less valid contribution to the scene, your magazine appeared, we have many riders throughout the whole country, that's fantastic. However, nothing happens if there is no proactivity! I think the national scene has a little notion that we are the scene, constantly, continuously. The scene is what we made of it literally. There must be less disrespect and more “good wave”. We have to accept all the differences of people and find ourselves in this middle we have in common which is the fingerboard. There must be respect and I think the whole community is in the same place, since we have enormous potential as I mentioned above.

At the beginning of the forum everybody respected everybody, because they were all meeting each other and there weren’t defined characters. Now it seems that everyone's egos are at stake! Let the crap and let’s just like to fingerboard simply for what it is, never stop defending what you believe in. A critical fingerboarder is a good fingerboarder, but a critical and active fingerboarder is even better! Who do you admire the most? There are several people I admire in the world of the fingerboard. In one way or another they became my friends, so individually they all know the answer to this question. If you could choose between skate and fingerboard. What would you choose? I would choose skate, obviously. However, sooner or later fingerboard would born and I would have both!

Which tips would you give to anyone who is starting? I would tell him to be humble,

because there are people who are in this for a long time before you started , so even they can help you. I would say not to stop having fun and to come to events - the most important. 16 - What is your opinion about the fingerboarders of today? (the kind that just want sponsorship, just ask to sub). Well, it's normal for people wanting recognition of their work, or time investment. Now, we must have some sense of things, and if people don’t have a cool level of fingerboard nor interact with his stakeholders and from nowhere they want to enter a team, there's a certain lack of humility . But also , I don’t give it a lot of importance , when we were younger we all said shit. So when I have messages from people I've never heard of asking to join the team, I carefully explain that there is no place in the team at the moment and it is important that they go to events and make themselves known to the community, which in lowpro you receive an invitation to come and never the opposite.

When will the new LOWPRO site arrive? I hope it comes before the Fastfingers. The new site lowpro is probably the most time-consuming secondary project that I'm having in lowpro. This is purely and simply because there is only one worker in LOWPRO - Me. The concept and execution of the site, has crept in due to the fact that I have almost no time to work on it , and I don’t want to put scenes online only to put something. If it’s lowpro , when I post it online it have to be good, you have to have quality - and how haste is the enemy of perfection, this is the story of the LOWPROsite. Since I do everything from design communication, customer service, making the boards by hand with precision, events, business meetings, demand for new production techniques, promotional materials, emails, keep the space, etc etc. etc. (all), basically the steps of LOWPRO are always forward but they are always small. Everything happens but at a certain speed. You can be sure the site is going to be a reality and with it, many new stuff will appear. How does it feel to be an adult and practice fingerboard? I feel really well, if there is a thing I love in the fingerboard is : at the beginning we all (those who are not ashamed to admit the hobby) have gone through a certain initiation.

This initiation started by tearing down all our shame of what the rest of the people might think. Freeing us, deep down, the social weight of what others think of us. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT for each person. It is important to get to be a little freer than we really are. Today, I am proud to have had this experience and have it done with fingerboard. Fingerboard is stupidly entertaining and always will be - this is the immutable fact that regardless of the age of any human being. The true age of a person in the background, and his experience is never the number of times the Roman calendar bows. So why should I worry about what others might think about an older bearded dude playing with a mini skateboard. Being a free fingerboarder, uncompromising judgments of any society, is a real fingerboarder, a real person who has the ability to accept any person as he is, with the least respect it deserves. This is something that not everyone has on our community. So yes, I'm saying that not all are fingerboarders "will be" because if we want the world not to judge and to respect the fact that we want to play with a fingerboard we have to be ready to accept almost everything on the planet - You that are reading this interview, ask yourself if you are ready to do this!

Finally, what do you think of the magazine? and the blog? I've had the chance to give my opinion personally. My opinion abou the magazine and the blog is that I basically take my hat to the people who show initiative and do something with this initiative within the community of the fingerboard. It's more important to do something than to do nothing and to complain that the community is dead. It has always been thus, ever since the old versions of the forum. There are always people who think it's dead, but deep down, what we need is creativity and ability to create new things. We must be aware that we are in the community, and we are in the forum really all depends on what is done

because the community is the sum of everything we do within it. So I think they have potential and are of great worth. I also think the whole concept of the Mag might be better poised to take its own identity. Sometimes listening to the community yields. That was how I began to define what would be LOWPRO own. Also consider an interesting fact that I have already had the chance to tell you - there is an element in journalism fingerboard that hardly happens worldwide. It would be good if a tugapublication started to do - so, what is journalism (real) fingerboard. Create parts, create content from scratch on fingerboard, and do not only write from what
