The bedroom itself has access via French doors onto a wraparound balcony with views. Furthermore a dressing room area and superb contemporary ensuite with steam shower complete the suite - a true sanctuary of luxury.

Our attraction to the property was threefold,” say the current owners of Tower House. “Firstly, we liked the quiet location in a small gated development of 5 substantial houses, adjacent to beautiful woodland, yet within easy reach of transport links. Secondly, there is a good choice of schools in the area, including the highly regarded Repton School and Derby Grammar, which our three boys attended.”

“Last, but not least, we fell in love with the house itself,” the owners continue. “With the architectural feature of a two storey tower incorporated into the building, it is like nothing else available. Built by Richard Blunt, who is known for his exquisite restorations of historic dwellings, and at that time only created one new house each year, the construction quality of this bespoke home is superb. It is the perfect family home, with spacious rooms and a layout which enables an easy flow for everyday life and entertaining alike, not least because of the large doors opening out onto the garden. At Christmastime, we can seat ten people in the dining room for the festive lunch; and we have hosted each of our three sons’ 18th birthday celebrations here with a huge marquee wrapping around the house. Day-to-day, waking up in the master bedroom each morning is a delight, with an wraparound glass balcony looking over the gardens, koi pond and forest.”

Outside, the beautifully landscaped gardens have enjoyed much love and care. “We have made great use of the large garden,” the owners say, “zoning it into different areas including: an incredible maintenance-free koi pond with filtration system and autofeeder; a lovely summerhouse; a private hot tub area; and a hidden pathway leading down to the brook. We have installed a gate to the side of the property which leads straight into the beautiful Woodland Trust reserve with its trees, streams and bridges, as if it were a huge extension of our own garden! We love walking through the woods to one of the three village pubs, each of which has its own character: one has a working mill wheel, and another won second prize in the National Community Pub of the Year awards this year.”

Indeed, the local area has as much to offer as the house itself. “We have the best of both worlds here,” the owners say, “enjoying a stunning countryside location while remaining close to East Midlands Parkway station with national rail services to London; East Midlands airport; and the M1 and M42 motorways. The secluded setting is peaceful yet also feels very secure, with incredible neighbours and various facilities within easy reach, including Burton golf course (<1 mile), a cinema (<2 miles), Donington Park superbike racetrack, and excellent restaurants in Willington and Repton villages. We are well located for Derby, Ashby, Swadlincote, Leicester, and Birmingham, with the town of Melbourne also nearby, so we are spoilt for choice!”
