A simply stunning four-bedroom detached country home in the heart of the beautiful village of Tixall.
A simply stunning four-bedroom detached country home in the heart of the beautiful village of Tixall. Tixall is a small village and former civil parish in the English county of Staffordshire lying on the western side of the Trent valley between Rugeley and Stone, Staffordshire and roughly 4 miles east of Stafford. Deriving from the Old English ‘Ticheshale’ the name is said to mean ‘hollow of the goats’. Great Haywood is 2 miles away with local amenities including primary school, doctor, dentist, small supermarket and a Post Office and the local farm shop is nearby too. It has a café, butcher’s counter and an excellent delicatessen selling lovely cheeses, homemade pies and locally grown fruit and veg.
Through the main front door is the large entrance hall. Off the entrance hall is the kitchen, utility room and the boot room. The entrance hall then has access to a study, downstairs WC, a sitting room, a dining room and a snug. The extended storm porch allows a passage through to the spectacular drawing room formerly a barn and converted by the previous owners, this forms the ‘L’ shape of the house. Just off this drawing room/barn conversion is a bedroom and an ensuite and there is also a small kitchen allowing this drawing room to be used as an annexe if required.
I fell in love with Tixall Grange before I’d even stepped foot inside. It reminded me of a dolls house as it’s so pretty from the outside with lots of nooks and crannies that come hand in hand with a property of this age and history. Built over 250 years ago, Tixall Grange has an interesting past having previously served as a public house, gentlemen’s club, school, and World War II bomb shelter,” say the owners.
“We’re the latest in a long list of people to have lived here and we have put our own mark on it by renovating throughout, whilst still retaining the original features wherever possible. We’ve updated the plumbing and electrics, added new windows, fixed the roof, and replastered where necessary, so it still feels old and characterful but it’s perfect for modern life.”
“The real beauty of this property is the location. It feels like we’re a million miles away in the peace and quiet, yet we’re right in the centre of where we need to be and we can easily access the local amenities. We like to go for long walks with our dog in Shugborough, and Cannock Chase is just on the doorstep. We enjoy being part of a friendly community which has a busy village hall offering a range of activities including coffee mornings, and the sound of the church bells ringing out on a Sunday is just lovely.”
“Tucked away behind wooden electric gates and surrounded by tall hedging, Tixall Grange offers the ideal opportunity to relax and socialise with friends and family. There are lots of grassy areas that are perfect for sporting activities and we’ve hosted BBQs, birthday parties, a christening, and even a wedding reception with ease. The beautiful old magnolia tree is a wonderful feature and the well-established rockeries are full of colour and interest.”
“We enjoy cosy nights in the smaller of the two lounge rooms as we can hunker down in front of the fire with our dogs but I think my favourite room would be the party room in the annexe / barn. It has a huge ceiling, exposed beams, and a log burner, and it’s perfect for entertaining as there’s plenty of room and even a bar! It’s the perfect spot for a huge Christmas tree too and I’ll certainly miss it, no doubt about it.”*
