The Old Thatch

Seller Insight

After several joyful years, it is time for us to pass on the keys to The Old Thatch, a truly magical home steeped in history and charm. Built in 1480, this chocolate-box cottage began life as a hall house, and today stands as a lovingly restored sanctuary, blending period character with modern comfort. Since moving in, we have re-decorated throughout, installed a brand-new kitchen and bathrooms, and maintained the home with care and respect for its heritage.

“Winters here are something special: curled up in the living room with the open fire crackling, it is the very definition of cosy. The dining room, with its huge inglenook fireplace, comes to life when full of friends and family, and has played host to everything from Christmas dinners to birthday feasts. Outside, the traditional cottage garden at the front of the property blooms beautifully in spring and summer, while the rear garden has given us fresh vegetables, greenhouse tomatoes, and plenty of space for the dogs to roam free. Al fresco entertaining is a breeze here, too: our daughter’s engagement party was celebrated under a marquee on the lawn.

“What makes The Old Thatch so unique is its peace and privacy – the surrounding orchard means we are not overlooked, yet the village of Doddington, with its friendly pub, traditional butchers, and the picturesque church, is just a short stroll away. This is not the kind of home that comes along often. Everyone who visits falls in love with it – the character, the warmth, the soul of the place. We hope the next owners will love it as much as we have, and make many wonderful memories within its historic walls.”*
