SELLER INSIGHT
When we first viewed this house, we could see the potential of making it our home, it was love at first sight. The character of this home, with its charming beams and history as a working barn, immediately drew us in. The generous outdoor space offered endless possibilities, from creating a smallholding with pigs, chickens, and a variety of fruits and vegetables, to simply enjoying the stunning view of the forest accessible via the yellow arrow walk.
The chimney breast with its double-fronted log burner, viewable from both the lounge and dining room, provides a cozy focal point that we adore. The open-plan living space downstairs enhances the sense of spaciousness and light. And, of course, the beautiful village of Stretton, just a short walk away through picturesque farmland and forest, offers a delightful blend of community charm and convenience.
Living here, we appreciate the balance of countryside tranquillity and accessibility to city life. Commuting to London is manageable, with Coventry, Rugby, or Leamington offering journeys of just over an hour. Evenings out in Leamington, Coventry, or Warwick are a breeze, thanks to their proximity and convenient taxi services.
This house truly shines in every season. During spring and summer, we practically live in the garden, taking full advantage of the outdoor space. In the winter, the double-fronted fire becomes the heart of our home, creating a serene ambiance that we enjoy while dining or relaxing in the lounge.
The sunroom, enhanced with a tiled roof, allows us to enjoy the garden year-round, regardless of the unpredictable English weather. Our orchard provides a peaceful spot to end the day, basking in the sun and watching our pigs and chickens. The local wildlife is a constant source of delight, with birds, nesting swallows, red kites, and even deer making appearances.
We’ve made several upgrades to enhance our living experience. Adding a tiled roof to the conservatory has turned it into a year-round sanctuary. We also modernized the bathroom by creating a stand-in shower from a former cupboard, adding both functionality and comfort.
Stretton on Dunsmore, a charming village accessible through the forest and farmland, offers a wonderful community vibe. The village is wellequipped with a town hall, school (which offers evening classes like yoga), church, hairdresser and beauty services, post office, shop, doctor’s office, pharmacy, and a pub. Annual events, such as the village fete, charity duck race, and Christmas fayres, foster a strong sense of community.
The village drama group’s plays and the town hall’s various clubs, including a dance club and scouts, provide ample opportunities for socializing and entertainment. We’ve built incredible friendships here and enjoy the ease of visiting neighbours for casual get-togethers.
One of our cherished traditions is hosting “BarnFest” each year. This family gathering brings together grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, kids, and dogs for cricket, paddling pool fun, den-building, forest explorations, and a
massive BBQ. Bonfire nights with friends, featuring our garden’s leek and potato soup by the fire, are equally memorable.
Regular dinners with friends, whether a BBQ in the orchard or a cozy indoor meal by the fire, highlight the versatility of our home for entertaining.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the proximity to fishing spots like Ryton Pools, Meadowlands Fishery, and Draycote Water for fly fishing. The scenic walks and jogging routes through Stretton, Burnthurst, and Princethorpe provide ample opportunities to explore the countryside. Cycling through the local lanes is another favourite activity.
Working from home here is a delight, offering a healthy escape from the daily grind of meetings and screens.
Our home is filled with natural light, thanks to numerous windows and open spaces. The sunroom, in particular, is a bright and airy haven. The expansive outdoor areas always provide a perfect spot, whether you seek sun or shade.
The patio is a favourite lounging area, made even cozier with an outdoor heater. We’ve developed a smallholding with vegetable patches, fruit areas, and a large polytunnel for growing a variety of produce. Fresh eggs from our chickens and rare breeds like Gloucester Old Spot pigs add to the charm. The orchard at the rear offers a tranquil retreat and a bounty of fruit.
Our neighbours are wonderful, and we’ve enjoyed many afternoons and evenings sharing BBQs and conversations. The village’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere has made it easy to form lasting connections.
Recent improvements include a new roof for the conservatory, new carpets, internal doors, fitted cupboards, and a fresh coat of paint throughout the house, enhancing both aesthetics and comfort.
Our home embodies sustainable living, with homegrown vegetables, fruits, and animal produce playing a central role. We value spending as much time outdoors as possible, embracing the countryside and its wildlife as a perfect counterbalance to our busy work lives.
We have countless cherished memories from our time here: peaceful nights by the fire with our dog, the excitement of bringing home our first pigs and chickens, and the joy of collecting fresh eggs. Watching the deer from the forest edge, bringing home our German Shepherds, and hosting BarnFest every year as our nieces and nephews grow have all been highlights.
To fully enjoy this home, make the most of the outdoor spaces. Take walks across the fields to Stretton or Ryton Fields for breathtaking views and nature trails. Explore the numerous country pubs in the area, known for their fantastic gardens and delicious food. This home offers a lifestyle rich in community, nature, and tranquility – a perfect escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.*
