Upon entering the property, you are greeted by the spacious tiled reception hallway that boasts underfloor heating and is flooded with natural light from the large windows. Access to the dining room is granted via double doors that showcase the large dining table and dresser. This room is full of character and charm with its high beamed ceilings and the pine, half-clad walls.

The large living room boasts views over the fields to the rear of the property, and the log burner provides a focal point for the room. The original oak beams hark back to its former life as a pub and beer house before it became a lovely family home.

The living room leads through to the fabulous farmhouse style breakfast kitchen, boasting a Rayburn gas fired range cooker framed by the bespoke French oak lintel, commissioned by the current owner from the New Forest. The kitchen benefits from an integrated Miele dishwasher, Neff induction hob, granite countertops, Belfast sink, integrated fridge, microwave and oven together with tiled underfloor heating.

The kitchen leads through to the very spacious utility room that benefits from fitted wall, base and drawer units, incorporating roll edged working surfaces. SELLER INSIGHT

Situated on the edge of the village of Stanley in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside is Bridge Cottage, an imposing four-bedroom period home that boasts glorious rural views.

“We’re both really interested in history, and that was definitely one of the many things that attracted us to Bridge Cottage,” say the owners. “It dates to early 19th century and began life as a terrace of three cottages. Then, some decades later they were transformed into The Bridge Inn public house, so it was an integral part of village life for many, many years – it even has a bus stop named after it, which is just across the road – and we love the fact it’s filled with an array of gorgeous features that not only give it huge character, but are also a very subtle reminder of its past.”

“The previous owners had been in the house for around twenty years, and during that time they’d looked after it beautifully, so it was in fantastic condition when we bought it. We’ve maintained that mentality; we feel strongly that a building that has stood the test of time as this has deserves to be well cared for, and so that’s exactly what we’ve done. We haven’t needed to make any major alterations, but internally we’ve made sure the décor is in good order throughout, we’ve kept the whole house well maintained, and externally we’ve had the building re-rendered and it’s been newly painted.”

“It’s an historic property, but it’s also a house that works brilliantly for modern family life. We have spaces in which we can both work from home, it’s the perfect size for entertaining, and because we have two staircases, when guests come to stay there’s a nice degree of separation, so everyone has their privacy. The previous owners added a gorgeous conservatory so there’s also a nice feeling of connection between inside and out – even on the dullest of days – and the garden itself is another nice feature. It has the look and feel of a cottage garden so it’s very pretty, but it’s hard landscaped so there’s lots of space for sitting out, relaxing and alfresco entertaining, and it also means it’s easy to maintain.”

“The house itself is totally unique and an amazing family home, and the setting is the icing on the cake. It’s a place where we’ve been able to enjoy the best of countryside living with all the convenience of having the superb array of shops and amenities of Derby city centre just a ten-minute drive away. In the village there’s a fantastic primary school, a little shop, and a cosy pub just a stone’s throw from the house, and we’ve relished the fact we can step out of the front door and go on lovely long walks through some of the most beautiful countryside… It’s been a very special place to call home.”*
