CORRAL COTTAGE

KEY FEATURES
Set on a private plot of over an acre and backing onto undulating countryside, this bespoke home was completed in 2014 to a high specification, including underfloor heating on the ground floor and oak doors. Large windows have been used throughout, flooding the accommodation with natural light.
The spacious entrance hall opens onto the dual-aspect living room and generous kitchen dining room, which features an Aga Total Control, central island, and double doors leading to a covered veranda. Additionally, there is a large utility room and wet room on the ground floor, perfect for after enjoying the local countryside.

Upstairs, the principal bedroom has an en suite bathroom. The generous second and third bedrooms share the family bathroom.
Outside, the property is surrounded by a post and rail fence with a gravel path leading to the front door. The path is flanked by lawns, well-stocked borders, and mature trees. A gravel driveway provides ample parking, turning space, and access to the garage with adjoining storage. Furthermore, there is a stable block with three stables.
The rear gardens are particularly special. A paved veranda spans the rear of the house, and there is a lawned area. Behind a post and rail fence, a paddock offers a more natural space with paths cut through the long grass and flowers. Various seating areas have been created to enjoy the idyllic surroundings, along with a selection of fruit trees. A mature hedge and treeline at the boundary ensure privacy while still capturing the magnificent views to the rear.

SELLER INSIGHT
I used to own the property next door,” says Rachel. “I ran a riding school from the Paddock & we used the house site, The Corral, for schooling. After many years it made sense to put a lovely house on The Corral. Hence, Corral Cottage.” I plucked up the courage to build my own house from scratch in 2014. I was able to have a real input in the design, and I have to say that I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results of all the hard work.”
“The house is in a conservation area and so externally I wanted the building to be very in keeping with the local architecture, but I also wanted it to be a warm and comfortable modern home, and one that took full advantage of this stunning setting. We’ve added lots of windows, with very large ones at the rear, and there are seven Veluxes upstairs so in the evening I can lie in bed and look up at the sky. In the kitchen we’ve also added French doors that lead straight out onto a veranda and patio so there’s a really nice sense of connection between inside and out. In the morning I’ll fling open the doors and sit on the veranda with a cup of coffee just watching the wildlife, and I have to say the view is always absolutely mesmerising.”
“I love the house, but I also like to spend as much time as I can outside, and the garden is just lovely; it’s a space that can be as smart or relaxed as you like. I have around an acre in total and so there are loads of places to just sit and soak in these gorgeous surroundings, and it’s a wonderful natural playground for children. I’ve also loved having the paddock, which has a rewilding look; it’s a really tranquil spot so I’ll often go down there and meditate. It’s also great for camping out in the summer and big BBQs with friends and family.”
“All of the rooms are beautiful, but one that really seems to impress guests is the first bedroom. It’s really bright and spacious, and whenever anyone goes in there for the first time there’s always a big ‘wow!’.”

“Great Gidding is a very pleasant village with a little pub, a shop and a fantastic sense of community. I’ve relished the fact that I can step out of the front door and go for lovely long walks or bike rides, and there are loads of bridleways so it’s great for horse riding. The immediate surroundings are very rural but I’ve never felt disconnected. There are a number of well-served towns and villages close by so everything I need is within easy reach.”
“A really useful feature is the large utility with a wet room off if. It means that I can come in from a run or a muddy dog walk, throw my wet clothes in the washing machine and have a lovely hot shower. It’s also very handy if I’m having a garden party because guests don’t need to walk through the house to use the loo.”
“This place is heaven on earth and so it’s going to be such a wrench to leave,” says Rachel. “It’s the light within the house that I’ll miss most, and the utter peace and tranquility of the setting. It’s an absolute gem of a place and I’m sure the new owners will love it just as much as I do.”*
