The Fine & Country YouTube channel has seen some amazing results over the past 12 months, thanks to the latest Luxury Home Tour Series. The series involves a walk-through-style tour of a property currently on the market, with the premium estate agency brand in various locations around the UK. Hosts, including Fine & Country’s own Holly Hibbett, offer the viewer a chance to see inside some of the most unique and intriguing homes available.

Since the start of the Luxury Home Tour Series, which can be viewed using the handle @FineAndCountryHomes, the Fine & Country YouTube channel has received over 1.4 million views and has gained 10,000 new subscribers, who are eager to see where the tour goes next. Viewers have watched over 62,000 hours of content on the channel, with the number of views going up by the day. The series has been an excellent marketing tool to get eyes on the brand, as well as on the luxury homes on the market.

> Over £49,000 awarded in the Autumn Grant Scheme

This autumn, The Fine & Country Foundation awarded another round of grants to 27 deserving charities working across the UK in the fight against poverty and homelessness.

A total of £49,793.00 was awarded, bringing the total donated in 2022 by The Foundation to an impressive £160,958.

The Grant Scheme aims to provide support to organisations focussed on fighting homelessness and poverty. Grants are issued in spring and autumn each year, with Fine & Country offices around the world encouraged to submit applications nominating a charity of their choice to receive a donation of up to £3,000. Through a rigorous decision process, The Foundation selected the 27 charities to receive grants in this round based on the services provided and previous grants received from The Foundation.

With the cost-of-living crisis adding to the financial pressure felt by organisations that rely on donations to survive, the Grant Scheme goes a long way in helping them continue their work in their communities. While a grant may not solve all problems, we hope it will help in the short term and have a positive impact on local communities.

Kruger National Park

When you hear the word safari, you can’t help but think of Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa. The two-million-hectare park was named after Paul Kruger, the 5th president of the South African Republic, and is recognised far and wide for its safari offering. The surrounding private game reserves are no longer isolated from Kruger Park, which means the animals here have an extensive domain and there’s a lot of them. The result is that there is a good chance of spotting the Big Five here.

There are many asphalt roads in the park, so it’s not a bad spot for a self-drive safari. There are still benefits to booking an experienced ranger, though, particularly if this is your first safari destination. A ranger will show you what to look out for when you are spotting animals and tell you more about their behaviour.

Kruger is basically a synonym for the word “safari”. Home to over 500 bird species, 100 reptiles, nearly 150 mammals, multiple archaeological sites, and a stunning diversity of flora, Kruger is the country’s flagship national park.

Sabi Sands

Sabi Sands is possibly the best-known private reserve near Kruger National Park and it’s easily accessible from Johannesburg. There are no fences between Sabi Sands and Kruger, so the Big Five and other animals move freely from one park to the next.

The original Sabie Reserve was founded in 1898 and became the Sabi Private Game Reserve in 1934. The land is still managed by descendants of the six families who were the original owners of the land. As cattle farmers, they drilled water holes to provide the cattle with sufficient water. These water holes mean there is always enough water for the wildlife in Sabi Sands, so large herds like to linger here. Even a brief, two-day visit at Sabi Sands is usually enough to see all of the flagship species. With a good population of highly habituated leopards, Sabi Sands is also one of the best places in Africa to see these elusive cats. Lions and cheetahs are also easily spotted.

As an extension of Kruger National Park, Sabi Sands has the same relatively thick vegetation consisting of woodland savannah. Two rivers run through the reserve, providing water. The riverine vegetation makes an excellent habitat for leopards and other wildlife.

MalaMala Game Reserve

MalaMala is an independent private game reserve that shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park to the east and Sabi Sands Game Reserve on all other sides. Having pioneered the upmarket private game reserve experience in the 1960s, it offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa, with easy, quality sightings of the Big Five and leopards.

MalaMala offers some of the best wildlife viewing on the continent. The Big Five can usually be checked off in two days, and leopards are spotted on most drives. Unlike other parks, MalaMala doesn’t offer traversing rights to guests from other properties, making it exclusive and uncrowded.

MalaMala is sandwiched between Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve with open borders on both sides. The vegetation consists of woodland savannah, dense riverine forest, acacia bushveld, open grassland and rocky outcrops. The Sand River flows north to south through the reserve and attracts abundant wildlife in the dry season.

Phinda Game Reserve

Phinda is KwaZulu-Natal’s favourite private game reserve, offering some of the best wildlife viewing in the country. All of the Big Five are easily spotted here. Phinda’s flagship species is the cheetah and sightings of this gracious cat are common. Both rhino species are also present and regularly seen.

The four lodges in the reserve have been positioned to experience the different habitats within the park. Forest Lodge is set deep in the heart of the rare, dry sand forest, while Mountain Lodge looks out over the reserve from the top of a koppie. Vlei Lodge overlooks the vast wetland, and Rock Lodge sits suspended over a deep valley below.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a rewarding destination for self-drive visitors; it is off the beaten track with great wilderness appeal and excellent wildlife viewing. Kgalagadi’s scenery is awe-inspiring, too. Think red sand dunes and endless vistas.

Kgalagadi is not a Big Five destination, as it has no elephants, rhinos or buffalo. Animal numbers are lower here than in the classic safari destinations, but the open terrain makes for good viewing. Predators are the park’s biggest attraction, including leopards, cheetahs, spotted and brown hyenas and smaller species, such as bat-eared foxes and Cape foxes. Lions are numerous, with the males known for their spectacular black manes.

Research released towards the end of 2022 shows golf has surged in popularity in the Asia-Pacific region. Including Oceania, there are more than 24.6 million golfers in the region – and that number continues to climb. It’s no surprise then, to find that Asia is home to a number of impressive golfing venues. Here are four clubs set to deliver premium golfing experiences to players of the sport.

1. Saujana Golf & Country Club – Malaysia

Malaysia is home to over 200 golf courses, and Saujana Golf & Country Club (SGCC) is one of the best, offering two 18hole golf courses: the Palm Course and Bunga Raya Course. Both are exquisitely designed for championship play, crafted by renowned golf course landscape architect Ronald Fream. SGCC has been consistently awarded as Malaysia’s No. 1 Golf Club and is one of the 100 Best Golf Resorts in the world.

The par 72 courses sprawl over 400 acres of Bermuda Fairways and Bermuda Tifdwarf green, with scenic views. The Palm Course is nicknamed “The Cobra” for its challenging layout. It’s beautiful, with mature palm trees covering the expanse, gentle undulating fairways, deep ravines and lightning-fast greens, but don’t let that deceive you. One of its holes, the 172-yard par three second hole, is rated as the Most Difficult Hole in Malaysia. If you’re looking for a challenge, this is it.

The Bunga Raya Course, on the other hand, is nicknamed “The Crocodile”. It features beautiful rolling landscapes and serene pools, adding new dimensions to the game. Consisting of a wide expanse of water and undulating greenery, the course recently underwent renovation, with the new layout design by E&G Parslow. Upgraded features include top-of-the-range golf course technology, Bermuda 419 fairways and Mini Verde Greens.

2. Black Mountain

Golf Club – Thailand

There are more than 250 golf courses within the Kingdom of Thailand, testament to the sport’s growing popularity. One of the recognised best is Black Mountain Golf Club, located 2.5 hours south of Bangkok and situated close to the beach resort of Hua Hin, a long-time vacation spot of the Thai royal family.

The East and North nines form the original 18-hole layout at Black Mountain Golf Club were laid out by Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design to cater for championship and resort-style golfers. The nine-hole West course opened for play somewhat later. Six sets of tees means the course is accessible for all levels of player.

Built at the base of a large dormant volcano, the scenery here is spectacular, with rolling terrain and plenty of elevation changes. Creeks are incorporated into the design and distinctive native red grass frames many of the holes. Aquatic hazards are plentiful, the most memorable including the lake surrounding the island green at the par four 4th and the waterfall to the left of the green at the short 11th hole. Many think the East’s long par five 6th is the signature hole at Black Mountain. Played from tees benched into a hillside, it’s downhill all the way to a putting surface that sits behind a sizeable lake.

The clubhouse overlooks the 9th and 18th green of the championship courses. There is also a full practice facility: a grass and mat driving range, chipping green with bunker, and practice green.

3. Hidden Grace Golf Club – China

The growth of golf in China has been immense, with China experiencing the greatest increase in participation of all of the Asian nations. During the Cultural Revolution, golf was banned, only being allowed to return in 1985. The first golf course in China was built in 1984 and now there are around 500 courses across the country and a steadily growing number of players.

One of China’s most exclusive members-only clubs is Hidden Grace Golf Club, formerly known as Genzon Golf Club. Located in Shenzhen, the 36-hole championship golf course has become a venue for international tournaments, including the Shenzhen International and the Volvo China Open. In 2019, the club became the first European Tour Destinations golf course in China. That’s not Hidden Grace’s only first either – the club was certified by GEO (Golf Environment Organization) in October 2020, one of the first clubs in China to receive this certification, bringing it in line with the international standard in terms of sustainability.

Hidden Grace Golf Club was originally designed by Neil Haworth, one of North America’s leading golf course architects. Both the A and B Courses are set around an enormous internal lake, Dragon Lake, which also dominates the view from the clubhouse and is integral to the composition of both layouts. Each course starts on the inland side of the main entrance road, but works its way back to the central property and ends with closing holes set right alongside the banks of the lake, making it a picturesque course to play.

The highlight of the course is the clever use of the lake within design and the routing. With the exception of the first three holes, the opening 12 loop counter-clockwise

around the perimeter of the property, before doubling back and playing clockwise along the northern bank. The 15th, 16th and 17th holes occupy an island within the lake, while the 18th returns to the clubhouse along its eastern shore. The flow between holes creates a sense of harmony, or perhaps even grace.

4. Laguna National Golf Resort Club – Singapore Golf is also on the upswing in Singapore, with major tournaments being held in the country on the back of a surge in the sport’s popularity. Despite the country being highly urbanised, 20 golf clubs have carved out enough space to keep the sport growing.

Laguna National Golf Resort Club is a prominent club in the local and regional golf scene, and has been since its inauguration in 1993. As one of Singapore’s premier golf and country clubs, Laguna National boasts two 18-hole championship courses, both of which have won prestigious accolades and hosted several international championships, including the recent DP World Tour Singapore Classic. Andy Dye set out the original 18-hole Masters layout and returned to construct the World Classic course. Billed as “Asia’s Toughest Test”, this stadium course features more than 250 bunkers. Some properties go beyond being simply a home. Michaela Black explores Théoule-sur-Mer and finds a property that could have been built by an artist.

Théoule-sur-Mer, commonly abbreviated to Théoule, is a lovely resort village in the ProvenceAlpes-Côte d’Azur region of Southeastern France. It lies a mere 40 kilometres from Nice, and just 10 kilometres from Cannes, in a delightful French Riviera setting below the Esterel massif and fronted by the sea.

Théoule may only be a small town, but it features an attractive harbour and several ports, and offers easy access to beaches and the dramatic rocky coastline that characterises the region. It’s the kind of place made for strolling and sipping coffee – or perhaps something a little stronger – at a local café or bar. There is a harbour for pleasure boats and a good selection of cafés and restaurants. If simply relaxing isn’t your thing, there are ample opportunities for hiking in the hills and forests behind the town or the region can be explored by bike.

Of course, being the Riviera, there is also a choice of sandy beaches available, and these are the principal local attraction. The main beaches along the Théoule headland include the Plage du Vallon de l’Autel and the Plage du Château, which are the two main beaches in the town centre. A 5-minute walk east along the promenade from the centre of Théoule takes you to the Plage Petite Fontaine, a small sandy beach, while the Plage de l’Aiguille, a rather popular sandy beach, sits a further 5 minutes’ walk along the promenade. For those wanting more walking, the option exists to continue along the coast to reach the more isolated beaches of the Crique Aiguille. West of town there is also the Plage de Suveret, a pretty sandy beach that tends to be somewhat less crowded than the central beaches.

If you’re more about the walking than the water, there is a coast path that runs from Théoule-sur-Mer towards Mandelieu-la-Napoule, passing the Château de Théoule and a couple of small coves, and crossing some rocky sections with views across the sea to Cannes.

Château de Théoule is now a hotel, but was originally a soap factory built in 1630. It fell into ruin and an elegant residence was built on its site and named “Le Château”. The Château has been rebuilt and transformed several times, but rumour has it there are still some vestiges of the old soap factory in the basement,

If you’d prefer to drive, part of the coastline near Théoulesur-Mer is followed by Corniche d’Or, a road that traces a path along the coast below the Esterel massif. This is known for being one of the most attractive stretches of road in France, passing beautiful landscapes with the deep blue sea to one side and red cliffs on the other.
