CHALKWELL

The subject of a substantial extension and renovation project, Chalkwell is a spacious 4-bedroom cottage with beautifully presented interiors and large garden. Situated in one of Wiltshire’s most soughtafter villages, it combines charming characterful features with quality craftmanship.

KEY FEATURES

Aldbourne lies within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by glorious countryside. The village benefits from two excellent grocery shops, a post office and deli, two public houses and an outstanding primary school.

Ground Floor:

A delightful kitchen and dining room provides a real heart to the home, the perfect space to entertain guests or enjoy a quiet midweek supper. Double doors lead directly into the rear garden, making for convenient al fresco dining when the weather allows. The spacious and light sitting room benefits from a log burner with a gorgeous, exposed brick surround and attractive mantel above. The very useful utility/boot room and downstairs cloakroom completes the ground floor and this area is accessed from the kitchen/dining room but also via a side external door - ideal for returning with muddy boots or dogs!

SELLER INSIGHT

What is your favourite room: Our favourite room is probably the kitchen/diner which opens out onto the south west facing terrace and garden. It is a great space for entertaining, definitely the heart of the home and is where we spend most of our time.

Who do you think would be the next ideal owner?

This cottage would suit families and couples equally. Ideally whoever views the property will like a garden and enjoy gardening.

What do you love most about the house and why?

We love that it was our creation, that we restored an otherwise unhabitable house and breathed new life into it. It took 16 months but people still stop and take photos! It is constantly admired which is very reassuring. Internally the cottage is warm and cosy. It has great character with oak beams, doors and floors and its two wood burners. It has a charm which is very attractive. We love entertaining here, but equally cosying up in front of the fire, just the two of us.

What do you love about the local community?

There is a great community here in Aldbourne with numerous clubs, two pubs, village shops etc. However, you can join in as much or as little as you like and without feeling any pressure to do one or other.

How easy is it to commute from here?

Access to Bristol, Bath, Reading, London, Heathrow - all approximately an hour away. Excellent schools both primary and secondary within walking distance or a short bus ride.

What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?

We chose this property because we could see its potential. The cottage has an interesting history, starting life as a milking parlour before becoming a thatched cottage. A local lady was born here, her parents and grandparents lived here and managed land nearby. We felt an obligation and a real desire to restore it and make it special again.
