17 THE POPLARS

An attractive two bedroom cottage, situated in a quiet, private enclave in a popular Northamptonshire Village, located near the ancient monument that is Long Buckby Castle.

KEY FEATURES

17 The Poplars occupies a privileged position in a quiet and private enclave, close to the centre of Long Buckby village which is blessed with an abundance of amenities. The property is situated in a tucked away location, occupying a plot at the end of three smart looking cottages, with a gravelled driveway (across a private access road) leading to plenty of parking and a single garage. It has the benefit of two double bedrooms, a bathroom, an open plan lounge and garden room and a small, but wellequipped kitchen with built-in appliances. The house has been cleverly extended with what was previously a ground floor shower room, that now offers a convenient utility room and WC. 17 The Poplars is complemented by a private and secure rear garden with a wonderful summerhouse, a peaceful retreat in a busy village. There are double glazed windows throughout and an economical air source heating system.

Ground Floor

The ground floor has an entrance porch and double-glazed windows to front and side in the main reception room. This is extended at the rear with a utility room (with WC) and a garden room with sliding patio doors leading into the garden. The small but well-equipped kitchen has been fitted with a range of white base and wall mounted units, together with the following built-in appliances, an induction hob, dishwasher and fridge freezer.

First Floor

The first-floor plays host to two double bedrooms, one with views of the rear and other offering views to the side elevation. They each share a bathroom with white suite, consisting of a bath and shower and an opaque double-glazed window to the rear aspect.

SELLER INSIGHT

I’d say it was a case of serendipity that brought me and this beautiful cottage together,” says the owner. “I heard that it might be coming onto the market and so I decided to send a note to the owner expressing my interest. Lo and behold she phoned me one evening, and I arranged to see it the very next day. As a healer and dowser, I was struck by the healing energy of the cottage as soon as I crossed the threshold – there’s a strong energy ley line that runs straight through the building and joins the ancient castle-site behind it. I said yes to the purchase there and then!”

“I immediately had a vision for the cottage, and so I set about realising that vision by carrying out substantial renovations. My first task was to knock the two large reception rooms on the ground floor into one, opening everything up and allowing the light from the six windows to shine in, illuminating the space fully. I also had the property completely re-wired, a new immersion thermostat was installed, I fitted eco light bulbs throughout and a new air-source pump installation followed, which has lowered the carbon footprint considerably, with the added bonus of very reasonable energy bills!”

“This is a house that loves company and glows with life when I’m entertaining visitors, who will often drop by for a bite to eat, and Christmas is wonderful here too – so cosy and welcoming. There’s an ancient quality of timeless peace and healing that wraps itself around one; it’s a haven of peace and a retreat from a busy world. Quiet and sustainable luxury indeed!”

“The drive at the front and to the side of the cottage had recently been luxuriously regravelled and smart new fencing surrounding the property put in place, making it a quiet and secure enclave, so I turned my attention to the rear garden, which is a real suntrap. Benefitting from the healing ley line and the sun, the many seeds I planted romped away happily, giving me food all year round – lettuce, runner beans, artichokes, spinach… the list goes on and on. My scented roses, bay trees and figs also went wild, and blackbirds, blue tits and a loquacious little robin also joined the fray and, more recently, a little hedgehog has been plodding his way through every evening on his rounds.”

“The cottage sits right in the centre of Long Buckby, which is the most beautiful village. It’s very community minded; there’s always someone willing to help if help is needed, and there’s always something going on. There’s a gardening club, a historical society and book club, as well as rugby and football clubs for the younger generations. It also has an array of shops, pubs and restaurants; a little nursery and an infant school, and for commuters the train station is just a brisk ten-minute walk away. It’s most definitely a place that has managed to keep up with the times, but it has also managed to keep its heart.”

“I’m moving because I’d love to find somewhere with a bit of land, but it will be a real wrench to leave this wonderful little cottage. It’s been good and kind to me and I’ve always felt very safe and secure here. I’ll miss the calmness and warmth of the cottage itself, and I’ll also miss the village and being a part of this wonderful community. There are lots of pretty villages around, but they don’t have the beating heart that Long Buckby has.”

Outside

A key feature of this property is its private position, along a gravelled driveway with plenty of off-road parking and a detached single garage with electric up and over door. The rear garden is private and secluded, with a block paved patio area, gravel pathways, planted borders and an attractive summer house in the corner of the garden just off the garden room; the perfect suntrap in the summer months.
