Three best friends have set out to the west from Kugane to learn more about Eorzea and its people. Self-proclaimed reporter Hanako wants to interview the masses (one at a time of course) to create thrilling stories and send them to her father’s newpaper publishing company back home. With critical and artistic support from the twins Ayame and Kaname, the three have set out on their path to pull anyone aside and learn their story.

What is “People of Eorzea”?

People of Eorzea is an interactive interview session, based off the real-life Humans of New York. It acts similar, where we approach you IC to talk and your tps://www.humansofnewyork.com/ short story will be posted on our page, complete with a screenshot!

How do I take this IC? Feel free to come across the aforementioned newspaper to read each person’s anonymous story. Anonymous is the key word, as anyone who’s tagged is completely OOC, for visibility purposes. So please don’t metagame!

The IC newspaper comes from Kugane named The Rising Dragon, and the stories are found on the second page under the International section. The screenshots are NOT IC and instead they’re realistic renditions of the interviewee based off the actual screenshot. The screenshots are just for fun!

Kaname Ohta [Mateus] – A performer and musician from Hingashi. She comes from the artistic and wealthy Ohta clan and is the twin sister of Ayame

Ayame Ohta [Mateus] – Entertainer, local heartthrob, and a hopeless romantic. Ayame is the sole male sibling of the Ohta clan and Kaname’s twin brother.

Hanako Omori [Balmung] – Painter, self-proclaimed reporter, and rich girl from Hingashi. The Ohta twins are her best friends from school and her encouragement for this project.

“I’d posted ‘round the city that I was looking for a hand or two to hire.. When I all but collided with a woman in the street. Taller than me by a head and with a grin that could outshine Azeyma at midday, she very persistently demanded I hire her for the job. A gladiator, she was, well-versed in the martial skills, if little experience in way of escorting and ruin exploration. I’d have been much wiser to turn her away, but something about her.. I just couldn’t say no. We set out for Qarn together, and I was rather swiftly shown this woman’s character: loud-mouthed, brash, and with an ego the size of the moon– it was no small miracle I managed to suffer her company as long as I did. Our trip into and through the ruins of the temple would soon become commonplace; ashkin and soulkin mucking about the entrances to secret rooms, being chased by swarms of angry wespes through. I didn’t think I’d have her along for more than one job of mine, but she’s.. Very determined in everything she does. Stubborn as an aldgoat and with a head twice as dense. Woman’s been an absolute thorn in my side ever since, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Trouble as she is, I couldn’t imagine a life apart.”

“I’m not sure that’s the word, but…like, perception… to a person that is content with her share in life, and someone that wants more of it? A person that knows what she wants in her life, or has it. Sees the world without rush, values these…little things, really. Each day is wonderful, fulfilling, great… I don’t feel that. Each day is like…a race, really. Everyone tells me I’m young, or a bit of an air-head, and sure, I’ll give them that… but, everyone knows what they want in life. They have a goal, and they’re working towards it. Or they already got there, and just…reap, and enjoy life for what it is. Steppes. Eorzea. Doesn’t matter the place, it’s just how people work. And I don’t have even that. I don’t have the bare minimum, I don’t know what I want. And it’s terrifying. Scary. So many possibilities, and some of them that my sister wouldn’t agree, but I can’t not consider either, because… I can’t stay behind. I can’t waste a single second.”

“My training was rigorous and by certain standards punishing. I’d argue it was firm but fair, I wasn’t overworked and if I needed a break my instructor would offer me one. That said, most days I’d be working on about two to three bells of sleep. Practice while the sun’s out, review theory and keep watch at night while everyone else is asleep. Got lonely, though, and when you’re that age being alone in the dark is a frightening prospect. Hell, it frightens some adults.”

“When first got to West, had chance go to Ishgard.

Cold remind Self of mountains in Steppe and Longs Ears in Castle Town were much nice to Self and group that was travel with.

Got meet dragon once, since was visit after war over. Was large, but felt welcome somehow. Self only experience with creatures large like that before came to West were beasts in Steppe.”

“My company has been mostly well received by the locals here and I attribute that to my affinity for blending in with other cultures. I try not to dwell on my affliction too much but there has been equal measure of hardship in my travels. Though each dawn reminds me of home, and each sunset gives me hope. Every time I reach a new summit on my travels I am filled with the determination to keep moving forward.”

“…I have a morbol that I look after. She’s a–a halitostroper. Or I guess just a stroper. She’s kind of small for–for her variety. But, uh… She’s–she’s very patient with me. When I first found her, she had all kinds of rot in her roots and was very hard to approach. But–even morbols are more important to their environment than–than people would think. Well.

Uhm. Unless they overpopulate… Ah–they’re like… Very tall plants with vines and roots hanging off of them. They can use their vines to walk.

And they have big, round, flat heads with a mouth full of toothy thorns.

They’re–they’re mostly known for their smell, and they’re usually very aggressive to people… Hana is tame, though. That’s, uhm. What I call her.

She even makes this sound sometimes when I’m combing through her vines for rot or parasites. At first I thought it was a–like a growling, uncomfortable kind of noise, but she relaxes while she does it, so it’s–it’s a sign she likes being groomed. It made me very happy when I realized what it was because–probably not a lot of people have ever been that close with a morbol before.”

“Happiness has – it’s always been a difficult thing t’ pin down. It’s fragile, fleeting, aye? Little moments here an’ there that sometimes you don’ realize what it was ‘til it’s not there anymore. I think th’ happiest I’ve ever been was th’ first time I sat down on th’ pier in Limsa by myself an’ watched th’ Moonfire fireworks. I had just made a really big decision for myself. It was th’ first time in my life I was out on my own. Didn’ have much t’ show for it, but it was my choice t’ be there, watchin’ those lights brighten th’ harbor. There’s some things I really don’t share, aye? I will say much of it shaped why I do what I do now, though. Sometimes y’ have to see th’ worst in folk t’ know you need t’ extend a hand t’ others so they can rise out of it.”

“There will always be a war. There will always be losses. People forget that.

People lose sight of all the little tragedies that play out around them in the greater conflict. At some point when lives become statistics you have to ask, was it worth it? What is the price of a mile of ground? I was north in Ishgard when they were fighting the dragons. They needed every adventurer they could find and the coin was good. I don’t hold any particular attachment to my own life and money is always useful. So I went. Have you ever seen an enraged dragon? It’s not much different from seeing an enraged man. The same hate and the same pain."

“A friend of mine - servant of the House, really is quite protective and fond of a squire we both know. She commissioned a set of crimson fullplate from me, in secret, for the day he was fully knighted - made me promise not to tell him who it was from, either. They’re partners - not in the romantic sense, but the…working sense?

They’re assigned to tasks together, usually. Good for the both of them, honestly. She’s still…injured by her past, and he’s a big idiot, but with a good heart. They keep each other in line, and I think they improve each other, too."

“The freshest moments in my mind include meeting a family member I’ve never met, and th- the um… my wife’s ‘defeat’, so to say.

Definitely shocking, and it was a painful, woeful year spent seeking a way to…bring her back to consciousness. To wake her, again. Although it was success and she is hale and whole now, the very thought that I’d possibly lost her so shortly after I lost my sister was frightening. To say the least, at least. 'Tis something I never wish to experience again, yet there’s an irony that we continue to take the jobs we do.”

“It was an easy progression from personal flight in the area. Getting off the beaten track, as one might put it, but with an ever increasing requirement for maps where there weren’t any. It gets me out, and it’s a way of giving back I suppose! I’ve grown to love Hingashi as a whole, I suppose it’s just a way of returning the generosity offered by the Bakufu with regards to land."

“…Well, I cut the head off a gryffon that was threatening our entire party. That was a good one. We were trying to save a friend, and it involved going into the mountains and trying to recover… something. Honestly, I was just along to make sure the party was safe, I didn’t get many of the details of what they needed from those ruins, you know?”

“To aspiring florists, just follow your passion. There are plenty of flowers out there that would love to be cared for and nurtured, and villages that would enjoy the warm welcome of flowers being planted. I started off handing them out in the street, and now I co-own a small shop in the Goblet. All-in-all, like most professions, just learning down the road and enjoying what you do is all that a Florist needs!�

“There was a family not far from here. Their daughter, a real little girl, wandered off. Usually I track animals I hunt, but this time I tracked her instead and found her and brought her home before anything bad could happen to her.

Her family was real, real thankful. They all were crying and they hugged her so tight. Anyone would of done the same. Most people would of helped them, if they could. Most people do the right thing. Everyone wants to help, especially when someone else is hurting or needs something.�

“One time we went to this place in the Mists–we got kicked out because Oz gets kind of belligerent when he drinks, but I had fun there, and I’d like the chance to do that more!

But… Like I said, we’re working on new material, so… There’s a lot of downtime. Space to fill.

And most days I’m just out here alone, y'know?

If I find something shiny I’ll bring it back and they’ll usually at least smile at me for it.”

The day I graduated was the proudest moment of my life. It still is one of them. I was finally free to pursue the research I wanted, so I came to Eorzea to pursue that. Arcanimia has a particularly potent Healing branch that I believe we could delve more into, and ultimately I’d like to uncover the secrets to healing types of maladies that are long thought impossible, such as voidsent corruption.”

“I was working as a Brass Blade at the time. I had yet to rise to the rank of Captain, but my work had won the attention and respect of my peers. I was a man that would get the job done no matter what it took, a real professional. My record was spotless right up until I was told to deal with a family of Ala Mhigan refugees that were making trouble for the Goldsmiths’ Guild. See, they had been trying to escape the Mad King who was reigning at the time. It’s a long story, but suffice to say escape was their best option. And as a family of goldsmiths well known back home they were desperate to find work here doing the same. But they were unable to afford the membership fee as they had left everything behind. When I arrived to demand they leave their youngest daughter had a fit.

Girl snatched one of the smithing hammers and tried to cave my skull in. I subdued her quite easily, but after hearing their story I found myself moved. Her passion and desire to protect her family had managed to capture my heart… And of course it helped that she was quite cute when she was all worked up. So I paid their fee, called in a few favors and got them all set up. Reinhilde was ashamed of herself for what she did but was too proud to admit it. So I offered to take her to dinner to make up for it. From there I suppose it’s all history.”
