Three best friends have set out to the west from Kugane to learn more about Eorzea and its people. Self-proclaimed reporter Hanako wants to interview the masses (one at a time of course) to create thrilling stories and send them to her father’s newpaper publishing company back home. With critical and artistic support from the twins Ayame and Kaname, the three have set out on their path to pull anyone aside and learn their story.

What is “People of Eorzea”?

People of Eorzea is an interactive interview session, based off the real-life Humans of New York. It acts similar, where we approach you IC to talk and your https://www.humansofnewyork.com/ short story will be posted on our page, complete with a screenshot!

How do I take this IC? Feel free to come across the aforementioned newspaper to read each person’s anonymous story. Anonymous is the key word, as anyone who’s tagged is completely OOC, for visibility purposes. So please don’t metagame!

The IC newspaper comes from Kugane named The Rising Dragon, and the stories are found on the second page under the International section. The screenshots are NOT IC and instead they’re realistic renditions of the interviewee based off the actual screenshot. The screenshots are just for fun!

The author listed is “Little Ghost”. How peculiar…

Kaname Ohta [Mateus] – A performer and musician from Hingashi. She comes from the artistic and wealthy Ohta clan and is the twin sister of Ayame

Ayame Ohta [Mateus] – Entertainer, local heartthrob, and a hopeless romantic. Ayame is the sole male sibling of the Ohta clan and Kaname’s twin brother.

Hanako Omori [Balmung] – Painter, self-proclaimed reporter, and rich girl from Hingashi. The Ohta twins are her best friends from school and her encouragement for this project.

“Before I came here. I grew up in the Shroud, to the north of here. We didn’t have much, and what we did have–well, my mother thought it was better not to waste what we had on things like that. The knowledge that there were other things out there, beyond the Black Shroud. I mean, back when I left, I didn’t imagine I’d ever be in charge of anything like this, but I knew that even if my family didn’t exactly…

Approve, of my past times, that there were other places I could go where I wouldn’t have to worry about it. It just so happened that I ended up leaving home a bit earlier than I originally planned. But all’s well that ends well, huh?”

“There’s two common schools of samurai teachin’ - Hingan, Doman. I propose the teachin’ of an Eorzean school focusing more on adaptability, rather than rigid order. Not to knock the other schools, mind! But their strengths lay elsewhere. Part of what I want to teach is technique - but mostly, I want to teach how to live ‘n hold yourself to a higher standard. Just like learnin’ any martial art. I spent a good chunk of my life - wanna say from…'round when I was twenty summers t'maybe forty, in Yanxia. M'teacher taught me Doman technique, in order that I might surpass it. Not that I did - like I said, they all got their own strengths. My style became what it is now, 'n I hope to pass that on.”

Hunting. This creature. This one specific creature, for a real long time.

Really, longer than-than I’ve even been a hunter. It’s a-a tenacious one.

You could say it’s-it’s pretty old, yeah. I’ve run into it time after-after time after time, but… every time I find it, it manages to get away.

Thing’s-thing’s almost killed me many, many times. Uh–… Well, in terms of how it looks, it’s-it’s hard to explain. It’s-It’s a shapeshifter. I’ve-I’ve been actively hunting it, yes, but– it’s very illusive.”

“I… wrote a song ‘bout my… m’ husband an’ I. An’ it weren’t meant t’ be more n’ a song fer m’ own sake, but I went an’ played it after a few too many whiskeys. Fer a damned crowd, no less. Hisself among 'em. Now th’ sod wants m’ t’ sing it again an’ I can’t bleedin’ brin’ m'self t’ do it.

“What I’m most afraid of? Suppose iffin there’s anythin’ these days….it’s the conflict. Wager you might’ve heard Garlemald’s looking to push hard against Eorzea - lookin’ to do so through the border of Ala Mhigo. Th’ Ghimlyt excursion….I was there fightin’ with the Resistance. I can’t get th’ sights out of my head, hard as I try. It was… Suppose I’m afraid for an eventuality Garlemald wins again, despite how hard we’re pushin’ back. Twenty years Ala Mhigo’s been stomped into th’ dirt. It can’t handle another twenty. Not again.”

Carline Canopy, New Gridania

“I hope for many things. Obviously, I’d like a happy life for my husband and I. I want to focus on learning more, seeing more of what the world has to offer. I want to meet people and make friends… They’re simple things, but they’re important.

Happiness is what we make of it, so I choose to find it in the little things.”

Hawker’s Round, Limsa Lominsa

“You could say I’m a widower. I was assigned to defend one of Ul'dah’s buildings, filled with refugees of the Calamity, while he went to the frontlines to bolster the grand companies’ forces. I was injured, and waited for days on end for him to come back. He, well. He didn’t, obviously. But, life goes on, doesn’t it?

We make ourselves happy.”

“This one time I was helping a couple of Ishgardians cross to this place near my homeland called Sea of Clouds, yeah? Crazy place. After taking them to their destination, I stumbled on what I thought was a lil’ dodo chick, so I picked the plump feathery thing up, and began to head back- was passed out, then suddenly it talked to me! ‘Netherling!! Don’t hurt Eeru Vanu!’ - I dropped the poor thing.

T'was a beastman child. Long story short, I took him home to his people and they about adopted me for a few moons.

They liked my name.”

“I met someone–you wouldn’t think he was important to look at him; he didn’t really look rich or ostentatious, which is notable in Ul'dah because everyone’s got something to show off. He said he was a toymaker, these days, but he used to be an adventurer, like I was. Actually kind of a famous one. I asked him why he retired. He said he just couldn’t keep up anymore. Age gets us all, if the dangers of the job don’t. But he wasn’t done … helping people. We’re never done helping people.

So … when he was a child, he was a refugee, and now he makes toys for other refugee kids fleeing this thing or that … I like to help him, when I can.

Bring him things he needs. It lets me think that I might have a life after this, maybe.

That someone else will have a better life too.”
