MALAYSIA'S TOP-RANKED UNIVERSITY VISITS GROUP T LEUVEN CAMPUS

From 25 February until 3 March 2019, Prof. Kaharudin Dimyati, Dean and Prof. Hazlie Mokhlis, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Malaya (UM) visited Group T Leuven Campus. They were welcomed by Prof. Bert Lauwers, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology and Prof. Koen Eneman, Campus Chair.

Founded in 1905 as the King Edward VII College of Medicine, UM is Malaysia’s oldest university. Its name derives from the term ‘Malaya’ as the country was known back then. Today, UM is an international renowned institution of higher learning in research, innovation and teaching. The QS World University ranking ranked UM at the 86th place in the world and the 19th in Asia. UM is situated in the southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The university has more than 20,000 students and 2,500 faculty members, divided into 12 faculties, 2 academies and 3 centres. UM has produced many notable alumni, among them two Prime Ministers who have contributed significantly to the development of the country.

After a campus tour and the presentation of the Faculty of Engineering Technology, the UM delegation visited imec, the Arenberg Doctoral School, the Malaysian Embassy in Brussels and Sluys International, the only Malaysian flavour company in Western Europe. Furthermore, the possibilities of starting up a double degree bachelor’s programme and academic exchange were discussed.
