Judo Uniforms - Useful Info for Beginners Since the inception of Judo in the early 1880's, it's quickly become one of the most popular fighting arts around. It may not seem so at first glance, but Judo is actually a very physically demanding and uncompromising sport. For this reason, a high quality Gi (judo outfit) is absolutely necessary for partaking in this sport. The color of the uniform is usually white and made from 100% cotton because this is the best material for breath-ability.

How to Wash If you're ever washing a judo uniform, make sure to use cold water in order to prevent it from shrinking. Most judo uniforms are not pre-shrunk, so applying excess heat is not the best idea. To further avoid shrinkage, make sure that it's also air dried afterwards.

The Judo Uniform The judo uniform is made up for 3 separate parts: Jacket - The jacket comes with wide sleeves and a collar that is thick and flexible. On the side of the hip are 2 short splits, which are reinforced with additional cloth. Original Article: http://www.fightingtips.org/judo-uniform-information/

Belt - The belt is colored according to the practitioners rank, and it is tightly wrapped around the waist to secure the jacket. Pants - The pants come with wide legs and an elastic drawstring for the waist. There is extra padding around the shoulders, collar, and other areas where a lot of stress and friction might be applied. There are numerous textures available for the gi. However, if you're looking for a uniform to train in, you'll generally want to get one that's made from a single weave cloth.

Single or Double Weave You can even get them in different weights depending on your preference (Although it's normally picked based on your age and skill level). If you are younger or still new at this martial art, it's recommended that you stick with the lighter weights. The judo outfits made from double weave cloth are a lot thicker and weighs a lot more than the single weave outfits. These double weave uniforms are meant for judo competitions. They can even come in blue color, whereas the training uniform is white. It's recommended to spend a bit more money to buy the more expensive and high quality uniforms. High quality judo uniforms should not hinder your movement or weigh you down. They are meant to fit you comfortably and allow you to move around freely.
