Week 2 // 2025
I think we all felt a little disrespected, maybe, coming in. There was a lot of conversation and none of it was about us. I think we all were highly motivated. Our players were certainly excited to play.
- TCU Head Coach Sonny Dykes after 48-14 blowout win at North Carolina on Monday night
Having dropped its last five season openers, LSU traveled to Clemson for a top 10 matchup in primetime to open its season. The Bayou Bengals went on to upset then-No. 4 Clemson, 17-10, in a big road victory.
Garrett Nussmeier, who was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, was a perfect 9-of-9 for 39 yards in the fourth quarter, capped by an 8-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tre’Dez Green to give LSU its first lead of the game with 12:48 remaining. With 13 seconds left, Clemson’s Kade Klubnick’s pass to TJ Moore fell incomplete, giving LSU’s defense a turnover on downs to clinch the victory. The win – LSU’s first road win over an AP Top 5 ranked team since 2019 – elevated the Tigers six spots to No. 3 in this week’s AP rankings.
LSU hosts Louisiana Tech this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PHX on ESPN+ before a big-time showdown hosting No. 13 Florida on September 13 in the Tigers’ SEC opener.
In quarterback Tommy Castellanos’ debut, he and the Seminoles stunned eighth-ranked Alabama, 31-17, in Tallahassee. Castellanos completed 9-of-14 passes for 152 yards while also rushing for a team-high 78 yards on 16 attempts with a touchdown. After the upset, the Seminoles are in the AP Top 25 at No. 14.
Florida State had 382 total yards of offense, 230 yards of rushing and 152 passing yards. Alabama was held to just 87 rushing yards, the fewest in an opener for the Crimson Tide since 1975.
The Seminoles defense recorded seven tackles-for-loss and three sacks as Florida State recorded its ninth non-conference win in the past 10 seasons against an SEC team. It was also Alabama’s first non-conference regular-season road loss since 2003.
The Seminoles look to move to 2-0 this season when they host East Texas A&M this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. PHX.
